[Senior Affairs Commission on March 20, 2023.]

[00:00:08]

THE, IT'S, I BELIEVE, UM, I BELIEVE I'VE FIGURED OUT WHO'S HERE FOR THE MOST PART ANYWAY.

UH, I CAN'T SEE THAT FAR, BUT I DO SEE SEVERAL MEMBERS, I BELIEVE ON VIDEO, WE HAVE, UH, MARILYN DANIELS, RIGHT? AND WE HAVE DEBBIE AUSTIN.

LISA KELLY, RIGHT THERE.

MM-HMM.

CARMEN ARENA.

YES.

ARENA.

THAT'S YOU.

THAT'S SPIT RIGHT ON VIDEO.

VERNON VERNON AND VERNON MITCHELL.

OKAY, LET ME TAKE THIS OFF AND IN PERSON WE HAVE, UH, MIKE BARRY, MS. JARVIS, MARILYN DANIELS.

NO, MARION WILLIAMS. I ALWAYS GET YOU NAMES CONFUSED.

I, UH, JERRY BAKER, MYSELF AND KAREN ROBERTS.

AND I THINK THAT, AND I KNOW WE HAVE TWO ABSENCES.

UH, PORSCHE CONTR.

CONTR HAS A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT AND WILL NOT BE HERE.

AND WILL NOT BE HERE.

BETH MINE SAID THAT SHE GOING TO JOIN US VIRTUALLY, BUT I DON'T THINK SHE HAS YET.

UH, I'LL LET, UH, BEN JENKINSON FIGURE OUT WHAT THE STATS ARE, BUT WE DO HAVE A FORUM.

ARE THERE ANY PUBLIC SPEAKERS? UH, BELIEVE THERE ARE.

CAUSE I THINK I RECOGNIZE EVERYBODY IN THE ROOM.

UH, IF NOT, WE WILL MOVE ON TO APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES THAT THE MINUTES WERE DISTRIBUTED FROM THE FEBRUARY MEETING.

GONNA GET A MOTION FOR APPROVAL OF AMENDMENT.

CAN SOMEBODY SAY SOMETHING? I, OKAY.

I'VE, OKAY.

ROBERTS MOTION APPROVAL.

AND MIKE SECOND.

UH, ANY DISCUSSION OR ANY COMMENTS ABOUT CORRECTIONS FROM ANYBODY? NONE.

ALL IN FAVOR, PLEASE SAY AYE.

AYE.

AYE.

OPPOS.

OKAY.

THEY'RE APPROVED FOR THE, UH, NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS, UH, CHAIR REPORT AND DISTRICT, OR DISTRICT UPDATES.

UH, I HOPE EVERYBODY, YOU KNOW, GOT THE, UH, KIND OF THE BULLET LIST OF ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION ITEMS, THEN I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING IF THAT WAS HELPFUL.

IT'S NOT COMPLETED YET.

THERE'S STILL A FEW THINGS I WANT TO ADD TO THIS BEFORE WE MAKE AN OFFICIAL OUCH.

NEED TO MOVE THAT.

LET'S GO OVER HERE.

THIS PHYLLIS HERE.

RIGHT HERE.

PHYLLIS.

PHYLLIS .

.

PERFECT.

OKAY.

UM, ONE OF THEM IS, I'M TRYING TO GET, UH, VOTER TURNOUT STATISTICS FOR EACH COUNCIL DISTRICT, UH, WITH A BREAKDOWN.

WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE TURNOUT FOR THE LAST SEVERAL ELECTIONS? UH, WERE SENIORS, UH, 65 IN THE MONTH.

AND I, I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT THE INFORMATION'S AVAILABLE.

WE'RE TRYING TO GET IT FROM THE COUNTY, AND I'M HOPING THAT WE'LL BE ABLE TO ADD THAT.

I THINK THAT'S, THAT'S GONNA BE SIGNIFICANT.

CAUSE I'M QUITE SURE IT'S BASED ON THE OBSERVATION WHENEVER I GO TO THE POLLS, THAT THE PERCENTAGE OF VOTERS IS MUCH HIGHER THAN THE PERCENTAGE OF POPULATION IN THE SEEMING POPULATION.

SO THAT, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS WE'RE TRYING TO ADD.

UH, AND THERE'S, THERE'S PROBABLY SOME HEALTHCARE RELATED THINGS THAT COULD BE ADDED TO THIS, THAT WE'RE JUST TRYING TO GET A LITTLE BIT MORE INFORMATION, THEN WE'LL DO THAT.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF A FORMAT THIS, UH, SHOULD TAKE ULTIMATELY.

UH, THERE'S A LOT OF STUFF HERE.

THERE'S LESS THAN THERE ARE ON THE CHARTS.

, YOU KNOW, I, I THINK MAYBE WE WANT TO WIND UP, ULTIMATELY WITH SOME KIND OF A LITTLE BOOKLET THAT, THAT DESCRIBES KIND OF THE HIGH POINTS OF SENIOR POPULATION, BUT THAT'S

[00:05:01]

GONNA BE A WORKING PROCESS FOR SOME PERIOD OF TIME.

BUT THIS WAS VERY HELPFUL IN MY MEETING WITH MY COUNCILPERSON IN TERMS OF, YOU KNOW, BOILING THINGS DOWN TO THAT.

AND, UH, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I THINK WOULD BE HELPFUL FOR EACH OF YOU IS TO LOOK AT THE CHARTS THAT THE INFOGRAPHICS THAT WE HAD, AND LOOK AT YOUR DISTRICT AND, AND SEE HOW IT DIFFERS FROM THE OVERALL PICTURE THAT THIS IS REALLY DEALING WITH.

AND SO, WHEN YOU'RE TALKING WITHIN YOUR DISTRICT, YOU CAN ACTUALLY MAKE EVEN MORE SIGNIFICANT POINTS THAN JUST THE BROAD CITYWIDE, UH, PERSPECTIVE.

BUT, UH, HOPEFULLY THAT WAS US USEFUL.

THE, AND SO, PETE, WE CAN'T DISCUSS THIS WITH OUR COUNSEL.

YES.

UH, COUNCIL NUMBER, AND THEN BRI, YOU GIVE IT TO ANYONE ELSE, OR JUST BECAUSE COUNCIL, AS LONG AS IT'S STAMP DRAFT AND IT'S A WORKING PROCESS AND ISN'T FINAL, I THINK AT THIS POINT, UM, THAT THE VERSION THAT YOU TAUGHT MM-HMM.

IS AN OLD VERSION THAT HAS CHANGED.

RIGHT.

IT'S JUST ONE, YOU NEED TO BE CAREFUL.

I THINK I SO PRINT OUT THE NEWEST VERSION.

AND I THINK IN HAVING CONVERSATION WITH PEOPLE, I, I THINK THE INFORMATION IS HERE IS ACCURATE NOW.

AND, UM, THERE COULD BE SOME CHANGES TO SOME OF IT, BUT I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANYTHING MATERIAL THAT'S GONNA CHANGE IN THE INFORMATION THAT'S HERE.

THERE WILL HOPEFULLY BE A FEW MORE THINGS ADDED BEFORE WE HAVE A FINAL VERSION.

AND I DID SHARE THIS WITH MY COUNCIL PERSON AS WELL AS, UH, YOU KNOW, THE ANNUAL REPORT.

THE ANNUAL REPORT STILL HAS NOT BEEN DISTRIBUTED BY THE CITY TO EVERY COUNCIL PERSON FROM THE CITY MANAGER.

AND I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT.

AND SO I, I ACTUALLY DID PRINT OUT A COPY FOR MY COUNCIL PERSON AND, AND HAVE THAT, HAD A MEETING WITH HER ONE-ON-ONE THAT, UH, WAS, IT WAS VERY HELPFUL.

SO FEEL FREE TO YEAH, I, I DISTRIBUTE THAT.

I SENT MY ELECTRONICALLY TO MY COUNCILMAN.

I HAVEN'T DISCUSSED IT WITH HIM, BUT I DID SEND IT TO HIM UNTIL HIM.

THERE'S SOME REALLY GOOD STUFF IN THERE.

UM, I DO PLAN TO, OH, MAN.

ESPECIALLY, I THINK THE PART, THE, THE SECOND PART WHERE WE HAVE ALL THE STATISTICS AND THE, THE DISCUSSION OF THE DATA.

I MEAN, THE FIRST PART WITH ALL THE PROGRAMS IS INTERESTING.

BUT I, THE SECOND PART IS REALLY, AND I DO THIS, THIS HANDOUT.

I, I ACTUALLY WENT TO THE BRIEFING ON THE BUDGET AND I DIDN'T SPEAK DIRECT, YOU KNOW, BUT I DID BRING UP, YOU KNOW, THAT THE SENIOR POPULATION IS INCREASING STRESS, SOME OF THE THINGS FROM THAT.

SO, UH, RELATION TO THE BUDGET.

THAT'S MY NEXT ITEM TO MOVE TOWARD IS, UH, I WOULD, I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY OF YOU WERE ABLE TO ATTEND THE BUDGET MEETINGS THAT WERE HELD LAST WEEK? UH, I DID NOT ATTEND MINE, BUT I HAD A ONE-ON-ONE AT THE TIME, AND SHE, SHE THE CHAIR.

ANY REACTION TO BY THE GROUP TO WHAT YOU PRESENTED OR WERE, WAS IT YOU THINK WE MADE A MARK ON ANY OF THOSE MEETINGS? YEAH, I, I MEAN, I THINK IT WAS IMPORTANT TO BE THERE AND HEAR WHAT'S PRESENTED, AND I WAS ONE OF THE FEW PEOPLE THAT SAID ANYTHING.

BUT, UH, I DID SPEAK ABOUT IT AND I DID PLAN TO SPEAK VERY DIRECTLY.

UH, AS I'VE SAID, I LIVE ACROSS THE STREET FROM DISTRICT TWO, AND REALLY, SO MUCH OF THIS IMPACTS DISTRICT TWO MORE THAN DISTRICT 14, AND I'VE PLANNED TO DISCUSS IT WITH THE COUNCILMAN IN THAT DISTRICT TOO.

OKAY.

DID ANYONE ELSE HAVE THE TO ATTEND? UH, ANYBODY WHO'S ON LINE? UH, MR. CHAIR.

THIS IS VERNA MITCHELL.

I HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND IN, IN MY, UH, UH, DISTRICT, UH, HAD SOME CONCERNS.

UH, I STILL SEE WHERE, UM, LOOKING AT THE BUDGET, THERE ARE AREAS WHERE SENIORS ARE STILL NOT BEING, UH, CONSIDERED.

AND SO I SPOKE TO THAT AND WILL CONTINUE TO SPEAK TO THAT.

I THINK, UH, IN MANY INSTANCES WHEN IT COMES TO THE BUDGET, WE ARE A SECOND THOUGHT.

MM-HMM.

, I, I SAID BEFORE, AND ONE OF THE COMMENTS THAT I, UH, MADE TO MY COUNCILPERSON WAS, IF YOU LOOK AT THE CITY WEBSITE AT THE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES FOR THE CITY DEPARTMENTS AND THE MEASUREMENT DEVICES, THERE'S NO MENTION OF SENIORS IN ANY OF THOSE GOALS OR MEASUREMENT DEVICES THAT ARE ON THE CITY WEBSITE.

AND I THINK THAT THAT'S A, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO TRY

[00:10:01]

TO CHANGE, AND WE'LL DO THAT BY SHARING DATA AND, AND INFORMATION.

BUT I AGREE WITH YOU.

BERNIE, ANY OTHER COMMENTS FROM YOU'VE ATTENDED THOSE? HOW MANY PEOPLE ACTUALLY ATTENDED THE BUDGET SESSIONS? I DIDN'T, IN MY, THE SESSION I WENT TO WAS A COMBINATION OF DISTRICT 14, DISTRICT CHIEF, BOTH COUNCILMEN ARE THERE IN BOTH DISTRICTS.

UM, DID YOU HAVE ANY FEEDBACK FROM YOUR SESSION? NO, I JUST THINK THAT SENIORS ARE, UM, SECOND THOUGHT THAT WE, I DON'T KNOW, CAUSE OF OUR VOICE, WE DON'T SPEAK UP OR WE DON'T KNOW WHAT WE DESERVE OR WHAT WE'RE SUPPOSED TO GET, YOU KNOW, SO I SOME TIME THINKING IT MIGHT BE THE LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT, YOU KNOW, WHAT YEAH.

WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO, TO GET, OR YOU JUST THINK, WELL, THAT'S THE WAY IT IS.

SO I THINK SOMETIMES, I DON'T KNOW IF SOMEBODY NEEDS TO BE PUT TOGETHER WHERE SENIORS ARE AWARE OF WHAT YOU ARE, YOU KNOW, WHAT YOU'RE ENTITLED TO, OR, YOU KNOW, JUST CAUSE YOU'RE A SENIOR, THAT MEAN THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO BE ABLE TO LIVE WELL.

UM, CAREFUL FUND.

UM, AS MOST OF YOU KNOW, WE'RE GETTING READY TO GO CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.

AND, UM, I THINK I HAVE SHARED THIS BEFORE, BUT THE PERSON WHO IS RUNNING FOR, UM, THE DISTRICT AND COUNCIL SEAT, UM, CALLED ME, UM, MONTHS AGO AND WANTED TO HAVE COFFEE AND WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE POPULATION.

AND I SHARED A BUNCH OF, UM, THE INFORMATION WITH HER AT THAT TIME.

THERE ARE TWO, THERE ARE TWO CANDIDATES RUNNING THAT ONE OF 'EM I THINK IS PARTICULARLY HIGHLY FAVORED BECAUSE SHE HAS BEEN SUCH A PREJUDICE, UH, NOT IN BY COLLINS AND COMPARTMENT THROUGHOUT THE CITY.

UM, AND I WASN'T ABLE TO ATTEND THE BUDGET MEETING BECAUSE I CAN'T DRIVE IT, NOT ANYMORE.

BUT I DID SEND MY, UH, COMMENTS, UH, TO THIS INDIVIDUAL AND SHE, SHE PRESENTED THEM, UM, FOR ME.

UM, WE HAVE A LARGE POPULATION IN THE LAKE COLLINS AREA THAT ARE AGING SUCCESSFULLY, AND I DON'T THINK THAT THEY ARE BEING CONSIDERED AS MUCH AS THEY SHOULD.

ON THE OTHER HAND, I AM DELIGHTED TO SAY THAT THEY'RE IN HAMILTON PARK.

WE HAVE JUST OPENED A WONDERFUL, WE DON'T HAVE SENIOR CENTERS IN DALLAS, WHICH IS BUG ME FOR AGES.

BUT WE DO HAVE A BEAUTIFUL NEW, UH, LOUIS BEACH JOHNSON EXPANDED RECREATION CENTER IN HAMILTON PARK.

THAT INCLUDES SENIOR SERVICES, SENIOR PROGRAMS, AND, UM, A SENIOR CENTER.

SO THAT'S A POSITIVE FOR D 10.

AND I'M SORRY, I'M, YOU FINISH MS. LEE? YES, MS. LEE, DISTRICT FOUR.

PHYLLIS LEE MAYOR, UM, ROHAM, CAROL KING ON ARNOLD IS, UM, OVER OUR DISTRICT, .

AND, UH, I DIDN'T HAVE ACTUALLY ATTEND THE MEETING, BUT I GOT FEEDBACK THAT, UM, SHE, UH, UH, WELL NOW I'M IN ELOISE LOBBY.

LET'S GET THAT.

SHE COMES DOWN THERE AND HAVE A MEETING WITH US AS WELL IN PERSON.

BUT THIS PARTICULAR MEETING YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT, SHE WAS ADVOCATING FOR US TO TRY TO GET A NEW CENTER AT ELOISE LONDON, BECAUSE WE HAVE, UH, IT IS JUST SO OLD AND OUTDATED.

AND THAT'S THE 10TH STREET DISTRICT, UH, UH, WE CALL THE BOTTOM.

YEAH.

SHE'S WORKING ON THAT.

AND OTHER PROJECTS.

AND OUR, UH, PERIOD, UM, I CAN'T EVEN SAY THE PORTION MARION, I HEARD MISS MARION SAY, UM, SOMETIME IT'S A LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND WE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO ASK FOR, BECAUSE THE FIRST TIME I SENT HIM A MEETING, I WAS JUST LISTENING.

I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT, WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT.

BUT NOW I KNOW WE CAN ASK FOR WHAT YOU WANT AS A SENIOR AND, YOU KNOW, JUST LET IT GO FROM THERE.

AND, UM, I WAS INFORMED AS WELL.

DISTRICT THREE, I THINK IN DISTRICT FOUR, I KNOW THAT 10 ATKINS DISTRICT THREE, WELL, WHOEVER, 10 ATKINS IS DEBBIE AUSTIN.

OKAY.

I GOT MY CHIN SHEET HERE, COACH.

OKAY.

I GOING TO SAY THEY WAS KIND OF HAD A MEETING AND THEY KIND OF LIKE RIGHT THERE ON THE EDGE, LIKE RIGHT UP THE CORNER, SAID MUSTAD, THEY TRYING TO COME TOGETHER TO HELP THOSE PEOPLE, YOU KNOW, TOGETHER.

AND I KNOW IT'S IN THE, UM, AREA WHERE, UH, YES, MR. ATKINS IS.

AND THEN, UM, MS. ARNOLD IS DISTRICT FOUR.

SO I WANNA SAY THAT WE ARE DOING SOME THINGS IN OUR, UH, AREA TOO.

AND, UM, WHILE I HAVE THE FLOOR, I'M JUST GONNA SAY THIS REAL QUICK AND THEN I'LL HAVE TO COME

[00:15:01]

BACK.

WE JUST HAD, AT ONE OF OUR CENTERS, OUR NEIGHBORING CENTERS, UH, THEY ARE GATHERING THE, UM, ELDERLY TOGETHER.

WE HAD BONDED AND I WAS LOOKING ON HERE, AND SO WHEN I WAS ON THE COMMITTEE OF, UH, ISOLATION AND PEOPLE BEING, UH, YOU KNOW, AT HOME, WE HAD A BINGO, UH, DEAL OF ST.

PATRICK'S DAY.

AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS SO NICE TO LET THE SENIORS KNOW THEY CAN COME OUT AND GALL ON ME.

SO LONELY.

SO I THINK THAT'S A GOOD THING TOO.

SO BE WORKING ON IT.

I STILL, AND I DISTRICT THANK YOU, .

I APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE VIRTUAL.

I, I HAVEN'T SEEN ANYBODY WAVE THEIR ARMS OR SPEAK UP .

AND IF I'VE MISSED YOU, MAKE SURE YOU SAY SOMETHING THERE.

ANY OTHER DISTRICT REPORTS THAT ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO, UH, TALK ABOUT THINGS GOING ON IN YOUR DISTRICT? ARE YOU, ARE YOU GOING TO TALK ABOUT THE CARD THAT YOU SIGNED OR SHOULD I YOU CAN DO THAT.

OKAY.

UM, I HAVE DONE THIS, FORTUNATELY, THIS POSITION FOR ABOUT SEVEN AND A HALF YEARS NOW.

AND I HAVE A WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL COUNCIL PERSON AND ADAM MCGOO, AND HE HAD INCLUDED ME IN EVERY DISCUSSION IN EVERY EVENT, AND HE IS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SENIORS AND HIS, UM, MOTHER AND FATHER VIV IN NADO, AND HIS DAD PASSED AWAY LAST WEEK.

AND, UM, PETER HAS VERY KINDLY SIGNED A CARD THAT I WILL BE TAKEN TO THE COUNCIL OFFICE RIGHT AFTER OUR MEETING, UM, FROM THE SENIOR AFFAIRS CONDITION EXPRESS SENIOR STATION.

THE ONLY OTHER THING I HAD ON MY, UH, REPORT WAS THE, THE NEXT PHASE OF THE DATA PROJECT IS GOING TO BE TO TRY TO DO SOME, UH, SURVEY WORK.

AND THE ONLY WAY TO GET THAT DONE IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE TO FIND SOME PRO BONO, UH, CONSULTING RESOURCES.

SO I ACTUALLY HAVE A MEETING TOMORROW WITH ONE OF THE MAJOR ACCOUNTING FIRMS TO TALK ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THEY WOULD'VE ANY INTEREST IN HELPING US WITH THE PROJECT.

AND SO IT IS MOVING ALONG AT A SNAIL PACE, BUT SOMETIMES THE TOUS WINS, UH, .

SO WE'RE, UH, WE'RE, WE'RE GONNA HOPEFULLY, UM, HOPEFULLY HAVE SOME GOOD NEWS FROM THEM.

I DON'T, I, BUT I, I'VE HAD CONVERSATIONS WITH TWO DIFFERENT ACCOUNT FIRMS TO SEE WHETHER OR NOT THEY'D BE WILLING TO HELP.

AND, UH, THERE MAY VERY WELL BE SOME OTHER CONTACT THAT, UH, AND YOU'RE SO ARTICULATE THAT IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE SOMEONE LIKE YOU REPRESENT SERIOUSLY, SENIOR AFFAIRS COUNCIL.

WE'RE, WE'RE GONNA SEE WHAT WE CAN DO.

BUT I, I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY, VERY HELPFUL TO ULTIMATELY A YEAR FROM NOW IF WE HAVE, UH, LEGITIMATE SURVEY WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE IN EVERY DISTRICT WHERE WE CAN TALK ABOUT WHAT ARE THE FIVE BIGGEST ISSUES FACING SENIORS.

YES, IT WOULD BE ONE OF THE ITEMS. AND I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE IMPORTANT TO SURVEY NOT JUST THE COMMUNITY LEADERS WHO ARE DEALING WITH THESE THINGS, BUT TO TRY TO IDENTIFY SOME INDIVIDUALS WHO KIND OF FIT THE DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE THAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED IN EACH DISTRICT AND, UH, APPROACH THEM.

AND I'VE HAD LOTS OF ADVICE ON HOW THAT HAS TO BE DONE IN ORDER FOR THEM TO BE HONEST WITH YOU, BECAUSE A LOT OF TIMES OLDER PEOPLE WILL SAY, EVERYTHING'S FINE.

AND THE REALITY IS IT'S NOT FINE.

AND, BUT THEY REALLY DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT.

SO SOMEHOW OR ANOTHER, WE HAVE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO HAVE SOMEBODY THEY TRUST BE PART OF THE PROCESS SO THAT WE CAN ACTUALLY TRY TO GET SOME CANDID, UH, INFORMATION ABOUT THOSE ISSUES AND ULTIMATELY BE ABLE TO PUT SOME, UH, DEFINE HOW BIG THE ISSUES ARE CITYWIDE AND WITHIN EACH DISTRICT.

SO THAT'S KIND OF THE GOAL, BUT IT'S, IT'S IN THE EARLY STAGES OF GOING TO THE NEXT STEP.

OKAY.

UH, AS IT RELATES TO THE COMMITTEES, WE DISTRIBUTED THE, THE DIS UH, YOU GOT AN EMAIL FROM KYLE THIS MORNING, UH, THAT SHOWED THE COMMITTEE STRUCTURE, WHO'S CHAIRING IT, WHO THE STAFF PERSON IS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE.

ONE THING THAT I WANTED TO, UH, AND THAT I APPRECIATE AND THANK THESE PEOPLE WHO, UH, OFFERED TO CHANGE UP WHERE THEY HAVE INDICATED THEIR PREFERENCES.

SO WE HAVE A PRETTY BALANCED, UH, DEAL.

UH,

[00:20:02]

THE FIRST ACTUAL MEETING OF THOSE COMMITTEES WILL BE ON MAY 9TH AND MAC, KYLE, DO YOU KNOW, IS IT IN THIS ROOM? WE BREAK OUT IN THIS ROOM CHAIR.

CLIENT IS IN THIS ROOM.

YES.

L ONE FNS STARTING AT NINE O'CLOCK, ENDING AT 3:00 PM WELL, YES.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE HERE.

OKAY.

I CAN GIVE YOU, IF, IF YOU LOOKED AT THE MEETING SCHEDULE THAT WAS DISTRIBUTED TO EVERYBODY, UM, IT SHOWS WHEN THE MEETINGS ARE, WE MISSED THE FEBRUARY MEETING.

BETWEEN NOW AND MAY, I WILL BE HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH ALL OF THE COMMITTEE CHAIRS AND, UH, WITH COMMITTEE MEMBERS.

PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF WHEN YOUR COMMITTEES ARE MEETING.

UH, THE, THE SAFETY HEALTH AND COMMITTEE SUPPORT COMMITTEE IS THE ONE AT NINE IN THE MORNING.

THE SOCIAL CIVIC ENGAGEMENT AND ISOLATION COMMITTEE IS AT 10 30.

EXCUSE ME, HOUSING IS AT ONE O'CLOCK, AND TRANSPORTATION WILL BE AT TWO 30 ON THAT DAY.

SO GET THOSE, GET THOSE ON YOUR CALENDAR.

UM, THE CHAIR OF THE MEETINGS, AT LEAST AS FAR AS I KNOW, THE CHAIR OF THE MEETINGS HAS TO BE PHYSICALLY PRESENT HERE AT CITY HALL.

OTHERS WILL BE ABLE TO JOIN ON, UH, WEBEX.

SO, BUT IT WOULD BE BEST IF YOU, IF EVERYBODY COULD BE HERE IN PERSON, IT COULD BE MUCH MORE PRODUCTIVE, UH, SUBCOMMITTEE MEETINGS WITH A SMALL GROUP, BUT THAT'S OUT THERE.

SURE.

KLEIN, COULD YOU GET THAT DATE AGAIN? IT IS MAY 9TH TUESDAY.

MAY 9TH TUESDAY.

OKAY.

THAT'S WHY I WAS INQUIRING.

WE USUALLY MEET ON A MONDAY, BUT I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT WAS TUESDAY.

THANK YOU.

YES, IT'S TUESDAY, MAY 9TH FOR THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS, AND THAT'S A WEEK BEFORE THE, UH, THAT MONTH'S SAC MEETING.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

CHAIR KLINE, CAN I MAKE A STATEMENT? YES.

WHEN I'M DOING, SETTING A MEETING UP IN WEBEX, THE MEETING AF THE MEETING AFTER THE FIRST MEETING, IT HAS TO ALWAYS END AT LEAST FIVE TO 10 MINUTES BEFORE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I CANNOT SCHEDULE WEBEX MEETING DIRECTLY AT 10 30.

SO THE, THE MEETING WAS, UH, THE FIRST MEETING WAS USUALLY END AT LIKE 10 20, THEN I HAD TO RE REDO THE WEBEX FOR THE NEXT MEETING.

OKAY.

OKAY.

UH, CHAIR KLEIN.

YES.

IS THERE, UH, ANY, UM, CONCERN ABOUT THE COMMITTEE POSSIBLY MEETING, HAVING A PRE-MEETING BEFORE THE MEETING? THE COMMITTEE OR THE COMMITTEE CHAIR? NO, THE COMMITTEE, UH, I, I'M NOT THE EXPERT ON ALL OF THE RULES AND REGULATIONS, BUT I THINK IF YOU HAVE A FORMAL MEETING OF THE WHOLE GROUP, YOU PROBABLY HAVE TO POST IT.

IF YOU HAVE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, IT'S NOT GOING TO BE A QUORUM OF THIS BODY.

AND YOU PROBABLY CAN HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS, UH, BY PHONE OR OVER COFFEE OR THAT TYPE OF THING AND GET AWAY WITH IT.

BUT I'M NOT, I'M NOT THE EXPERT.

SO BEFORE YOU SCHEDULE ANYTHING THAT, WITH THAT CHECK WITH MACKAY SO THAT HE CAN GET CLARENCE WITH WHOEVER THE POWER OF THAT, WE HAVE TO, WELL, MAYBE THIS IS A QUESTION THAT I NEED TO ASK.

WHAT ARE THE EXPECTATIONS FOR THE RESULT OF THOSE MEETINGS? WELL, ULTIMATELY THESE MEETINGS ARE INTENDED TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A MORE IN-DEPTH CONVERSATION WITH ENTITIES THAT ARE SERVING THE SENIOR COMMUNITY.

UH, THEN WE'RE ABLE TO HAVE AT THIS, AT THESE MEETINGS WHERE BASICALLY WE CAN NEVER REALLY ALLOCATE MORE THAN 15 TO 20 MINUTES FOR A PRESENTATION.

AND IF YOU WIND UP WITH, IN ANY OF THESE COMMITTEES WITH GAINING INFORMATION, YOU CAN REPORT ON IT TO THE, TO THE MAIN BODY, BUT ALSO YOU CAN IDENTIFY THE THINGS THAT THE WHOLE BODY SHOULD BE HEARING FIRSTHAND.

AND WE CAN GET 'EM ON THE AGENDA FOR THE MAIN MEETINGS.

BUT IT IS,

[00:25:01]

IT'S TRYING TO HAVE AT LEAST A FEW MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION MORE, MORE ENGAGED AND MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THAT PARTICULAR AREA THAN THE BODY AS A WHOLE IS CURRENTLY.

OKAY.

AND I GUESS THE REASON I'M ASKING IS THAT, UH, IF AS CHAIR I'M NOT ABLE TO GET WITH THE COMMITTEE, THEN THAT MEANS THE DECISION WILL PRETTY MUCH BE MY OWN, WHICH IS NOT REALLY, YEAH.

BUT THAT'S NOT REALLY, I, I, I GUESS I, I WOULD WANT INPUT FROM THE OTHER COMMITTEE MEMBERS AS TO WHAT THEY FEEL IS IMPORTANT AS WELL VERSUS, UH, WHAT I ONLY THINK IS IMPORTANT THAT SHOULD BE BROUGHT FORTH.

WELL, I, I THINK THAT, I GUESS MY RESPONSE TO THAT IS PART OF YOUR COMMITTEE MEETING SHOULD BE A CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT FOR THE FIRST MEETING.

I DON'T THINK THERE'S ANY DANGER IN HAVING YOU TAKE THE AGENDA.

FORBES GONNA BE ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

ANY OTHER COUNSEL? WHAT TIME? GO AHEAD, CHAIRMAN.

UH, WAS THE, UH, SAFETY, HEALTH AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT ON YOUR LIST THERE? WE DID.

WHAT TIME IS THAT ON MAY 9TH? UH, 9:00 AM 9:00 AM THANK YOU.

SHE GOT GOOD.

NICOLE, I DO HAVE A QUESTION.

THE, DO WE HAVE THIS ROOM UNTIL THREE OR UNTIL THREE 30? THREE.

THREE 30.

BECAUSE WE HAVE OUR, OUR LAST COMMITTEE STARTS AT TWO 30 HOUR, SUPPOSED TO BE AN HOUR AND A HALF.

OKAY.

SO WE'LL HAVE UNTIL GOT THE WHOLE WHOLE DAY.

OKAY.

I'LL BE HERE THE WHOLE DAY.

LUCKY YOU.

THANK YOU.

.

HE HAS TO BE LUCKY.

YES.

.

OKAY.

UH, ANNA? UH, I THINK, YOUR HONOR, GREEN HERE.

YEAH.

RIGHT.

GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE.

UM, LET ME GET MY UPDATE.

ALL RIGHT.

EVERYBODY CAN HEAR ME RIGHT? YES.

YES.

OKAY.

UM, GOOD AFTERNOON.

MY NAME IS ANNA KATRA.

I AM THE SUPERVISOR FOR THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY CARE SENIOR SERVICES PROGRAM.

UM, FOR OUR UPDATE, UM, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WERE ABLE TO, TO SEE THE, THE DOCUMENT.

WE'VE BEEN REALLY, REALLY BUSY FOR MARCH.

WE'RE GONNA BE BUSY FOR APRIL AND MAY.

WE'RE REALLY OUT THERE IN THE COMMUNITY.

WE'VE VISITED, UM, REC CENTERS, CHURCHES.

WE'VE DONE THEM IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH.

WE PARTICIPATED IN THE JCC, SENIOR EXPO EXPO, AND THAT HAD, UM, OVER 507 ATTENDEES.

SO WE'VE, WE'VE REALLY BEEN OUT THERE IN REGARDS TO SENIORS SERVED.

WE HAD 136 SENIORS FOR FEBRUARY.

THE LARGEST NUMBER OF CALLS WERE FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

YEAR TO DATE, WE'VE HAVE SERVED 685 SENIORS VIA REFERRAL AND INFORMATION, AND WE'VE PARTICIPATED IN 28 OUTREACH EVENTS FOR THE DART RIDES RIDER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM.

THEY HAVE SERVED 90 UNIQUE RIDER AND HAVE PROVIDED 627 ONE-WAY TRIPS FOR THE SENIOR EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM.

THEY HAVE SERVED 154 SENIORS A YEAR TO DATE NOW FOR THE CLINICAL DENTAL PROGRAM.

THEIR CONTRACT WAS APPROVED ON MARCH 8TH, SO THEY DID NOT HAVE AN ACTIVE CONTRACT FOR FEBRUARY.

SO I DON'T HAVE INFORMATION FOR FEBRUARY.

AND LASTLY, FOR THE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM, THEY VISITED 290 NURSING HOMES AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES, AND THEY VISITED 2,809 RESIDENTS IN TOTAL.

SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, THAT'S ALL I HAVE.

UH, MR. CHAIR, I DO HAVE A QUESTION.

UH, THIS IS VERNA MITCHELL, AND I'M, I'M JUST COMING BACK AND I PROBABLY MISSED THE REPORT WHERE YOU DO THE BREAKOUT.

AND SO MY, SIMPLY, MY QUESTION WOULD BE, WHEN DO WE GET THE BREAKOUT OF THE NUMBERS OF PERSONS THAT WERE SERVED IN EACH DISTRICT FOR EACH OF THOSE COMPONENTS? AND YEAH, I WE CAN DO THAT, UM, QUARTERLY, LIKE WE HAD STATED

[00:30:01]

LAST TIME.

SO WE WILL WORK ON THAT.

OKAY.

COULD I, COULD I RECEIVE A COPY OF THE LAST ONE THAT YOU DID SINCE I WASN'T HERE? IF YOU COULD JUST EMAIL THAT TO ME, I'D GREATLY APPRECIATE IT.

OKAY.

THAT, KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT THAT ONE.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU.

SO, ANNA, THAT WAS PART OF MY QUESTION.

THIS IS, UH, COMMISSIONER JARVIS.

I NOTICED THAT BEFORE WE USED TO HAVE DART RIDES BY DISTRICT AS WELL AS ON A YEAR TO DATE BASIS.

SO I GRABBED UP MY HISTORY AND FOUND OUT WE'RE DOING REALLY GOOD AT DART RIDE IN TERMS OF YEAR OVER YEAR.

SO IT'D BE NICE TO KIND OF SEE THAT INFORMATION, BUT TO ALSO SEE WHAT DISTRICTS ARE DRIVING THAT.

I HAVE QUESTION ON THE, ON THE, UH, MR. CHAIR, IF I'M NOT MISTAKEN, I'M SORRY, UH, ON THE DENTAL PROGRAM, WHAT DOES THAT ENTAIL? THE CITY SUBSIDIZES THAT OR JUST HAS TO HAVE A IDENTIFICATION? THAT WOULD BE A JESSICA.

IS JESSICA GONE? YEAH.

IT, IT COVERS THE COST FOR THE DENTAL SERVICES FOR SENIORS.

OKAY.

THROUGH TEXAS A AND M.

THEY BILL AND WE PAY, I MEAN, AFTER THE INVEST, CORRECT? YEAH.

IT'S A, IT'S A RATE PER, PER VISIT PER SERVICE.

OKAY.

SO THERE'S NO DOLLAR COMMITTED.

IT'S JUST WE PAY US, THERE'S A DOLLAR COMMITTED IN TERMS OF THE CONTRACT.

THERE'S A MAXIMUM CONTRACTUAL AMOUNT THAT WE CAN PAY UNDER THE AGREEMENT ON AN ANNUAL BASIS.

BUT, UM, AND THEN THERE'S A FEE AMOUNT FOR THE SERVICE, AND I FORGET EXACTLY WHAT IT IS, BUT, UM, IT'S LIKE 135 OR SOMETHING PER SERVICE.

AND SO THEY JUST BILL US MONTHLY.

RIGHT.

OKAY.

BUT THE END USER DOES NOT GET BILLED? NO, THE END USER DOES NOT GET BILLED.

THE BILLING IS FOR THE ELIGIBLE CLIENTS? YES.

THAT'S, THAT'S A PROGRAM THAT BASICALLY WAS EFFECTIVELY SHUT DOWN DURING THE, THE HEIGHT OF THE PANDEMIC EXCELLENT SPOT.

AND, AND SO THE VOLUMES THAT YOU'RE LOOKING AT VOLUMES OVER A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME, THEY DON'T MAKE A LOT OF SENSE.

BUT THEY'VE, YOU KNOW, THE CURRENT CONTRACT OF A AND M HAS BEEN, UH, THEY, THEY'VE BEEN MUCH MORE RESPONSIVE AND, AND MUCH, UH, MORE AGGRESSIVE ABOUT TRYING TO REBUILD THE VOLUMES AND THEY'VE GOT SOME NEW FACILITIES AND RIGHT.

SO IT'S THAT, THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF THAT.

YES, YES.

THAT, THAT'S CORRECT.

VERNON, DID YOU HAVE A QUESTION OR A COMMENT? UH, NO.

I, I, I THINK EVERYTHING'S BEEN COVERED.

I WAS JUST, UH, UH, AS PER THE, UM, POLICY FOR THE, UH, CITY ON EQUITY, UH, IT WAS MY ASSUMPTION THAT ALL REPORTS OUGHT TO BE BROKEN DOWN BY DISTRICT, BY ETHNICITY.

AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER FACTORS AS WELL.

AND, UH, I KNOW I'VE REPEATEDLY ASKED FOR THAT, AND I'M TOLD THAT WE GET IT QUARTERLY, AND I'M SURE, YOU KNOW, IN MY ABSENCE I'VE MISSED IT.

BUT I THINK IN ORDER FOR US TO SERVE THE DISTRICTS, UH, THAT WE'VE BEEN ASKED TO, UH, WE NEED THAT INFORMATION, UH, TO CARRY BACK TO OUR COUNCIL PERSONS.

AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT ABOUT ANYONE ELSE, BUT MY COUNCIL PERSON ASKED THAT, AND IT MAKES ME FEEL A LITTLE INADEQUATE WHEN I CANNOT RESPOND.

OKAY.

I WAS JUST GONNA ASK, DID YOU GET CALLS TO HELP PEOPLE WITH THAT RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM THAT WE HAD FOR A COUPLE DAYS? UM, I'M SORRY, I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REFERENCE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.

WELL, IT WAS THAT RENTAL ASSISTANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM THAT WAS AVAILABLE AND ON MONDAY AFTER WEDNESDAY.

YEAH.

IT REALLY WAS ONLY TRULY FOR A FEW DAYS.

I GUESS YOU DIDN'T GET CALLS ABOUT THAT? UH, NO.

WE, WELL, OUR OFFICE ADMINISTERED OVER A HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS IN RENTAL ASSISTANCE OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, BUT WE DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING AVAILABLE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS.

WELL, IT, I MEAN, IT WAS A, IT TRULY REALLY WAS THAT, THAT PROGRAM THAT WAS JUST AVAILABLE, THIS, I DON'T KNOW IF IT CAME FROM THE STATE OR WHAT.

IT WAS VERY, IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RECENTLY ANNOUNCED THE EXPANSION OF TEXAS RENT RELIEF EARLIER THIS MONTH, THAT'S ADMINISTERED BY DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY SERVICES.

UM, I BELIEVE THERE ARE CLOSING APPLICATIONS TOMORROW.

UM, THEY CLOSED MONDAY, BUT YEAH, THOSE DON'T COME THROUGH US.

WE ALSO RECEIVED AN ALLOCATION, UM, THAT WAS ADMINISTERED LOCALLY.

BUT IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT WHAT WAS RECENTLY OPEN,

[00:35:01]

LIKE EARLIER THIS MONTH, OR CURRENTLY AT THIS MOMENT, THAT IS TEXAS RENT RELIEF UNDER TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY AFFAIRS.

DOES THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION? MY QUESTION WAS, DID YOU ALL GET CALLS ABOUT HELPING CONNECT PEOPLE TO THAT PROGRAM? BUT IT DOESN'T SOUND LIKE YOU DID SO WELL.

WE HAVE A CALL CENTER FOR RENTAL ASSISTANCE THAT'S NOT WITHIN OUR SENIOR SERVICES TEAM, SO I WOULD ACTUALLY HAVE TO ASK THEM FOR DATA ON THAT.

BUT WE GET HUNDRED LOTS OF CALLS EVERY SINGLE DAY.

AND I'M SURE THAT WE MADE MANY REFERRALS DURING THE PERIOD THAT THE PORTAL WAS OPEN.

.

OKAY.

ANYTHING ELSE? I'VE GOT, I HAVE A QUESTION.

QUESTION, SORRY.

UM, ON THE SENIOR SERVICES PROGRAM UPDATES, THERE ARE SOME VERY BIG PROGRAMS THAT ARE COMING UP IN MAY, THE SENIOR HUNGER SUMMIT, UM, THE ANNUAL DART OLDER AMERICANS HELP AND INFORMATION FAIR THAT'S GONNA BE AT FAIR PARK.

UM, IF AS A SENIOR AFFAIRS PERSON, I WOULD WANTED TO BE INVOLVED IN THAT, HOW DOES, HOW DO I DO THAT? OR SOMEBODY IN MY DISTRICT WANTS TO BE INVOLVED? WELL, REGARDING THE HUNGER SUMMIT, THAT'S HOSTED BY DALLAS COALITION ON HUNGER SOLUTIONS, AND I KNOW THAT SOME OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS ARE INVOLVED, AND I KNOW THAT COMMISSIONER AUSTIN IS INVOLVED IN THAT GROUP.

MM-HMM.

, UM, ONCE WE GET INFORMATION ABOUT THE FINAL DETAILS, WE CAN CERTAINLY SHARE IT.

UM, BUT YOU KNOW, THE CITY'S NOT HOSTING THAT SUMMIT, UM, EXCLUSIVELY.

OH.

AND WE, I BELIEVE ANNA, I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S YOU OR WAS IT JAMES, WHO'S PARTICIPATING IN THE PLANNING COMMITTEE FOR THE DART EVENT? JAMES.

SO WE'RE PART OF THE PLANNING COMMITTEE FOR THAT.

UH, BUT WE'RE NOT THE HOST OF THE DART EVENT, BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY SHARE FINAL DATA DETAILS ON BOTH OF THOSE PROJECTS WHEN, WHEN IT'S AVAILABLE.

I THINK A LOT OF THE DETAILS ARE STILL BEING KIND OF SOLIDIFIED FOR THE PROGRAMS. OKAY.

WELL, I WAS JUST WONDERING WHETHER THEY NEEDED ANY HELP AND BEING AVAILABLE TO BE ON, ON THE HEALTH SIDE.

NOT, RIGHT.

I'M NOT SURE.

I MEAN, COMMISSIONER AUSTIN, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANTED TO ADD ANYTHING ABOUT THE HUNGER SUMMIT, SINCE I KNOW YOU'RE IN THE, UM, COMMITTEE THAT'S, UH, THE SUBGROUP, UM, THAT'S HELPING TO PLAN IT, IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT, THAT IS BEING STARTED.

NO, NO.

YOU KNOW, I REACHED OUT TO YOU, UH, ABOUT, UH, VENUE, BUT WE SECURED A VENUE.

IT WILL BE AT THE BRISCOE CENTER OVER AT FAIR PARK.

UH, RIGHT NOW WE'RE IN THE PLANNING STAGES, AND JAMES KNOWS THAT, UH, WE WERE ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE LAST YEAR.

IT'S THE SAME PLANNING COMMITTEE.

SHE KEEPS IT THAT WAY AND WE WILL GET YOU ALL THE INFORMATION AS IT, UH, UNFOLDS.

BUT RIGHT NOW, SHE KIND OF KEEPS IT THE SAME PEOPLE BECAUSE SHE KNOWS HOW TO WORK WITH THE SAME PEOPLE.

SO I'LL KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED.

OKAY.

BUT I DO HAVE A QUESTION, UH, TO JESSICA ABOUT THE, UM, THE PROGRAM THAT, UH, WAS PART OF, UM, THERE WAS A PROGRAM LAST YEAR THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO GO OUT TO FAMILIES BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE AMOUNT THAT WAS COLLECTED BY THE CITY FOR UNUSED SALES TAX.

REMEMBER PAYING TO FAMILIES, UH, CHECK, UH, EVERY MONTH FOR LIKE $250.

DO YOU REMEMBER THAT? SO, UM, THERE, I I THINK YOU MAY BE REFERENCING SOME OF THE RACIAL EQUITY, UH, PLAN PROJECTS.

YEAH.

UM, THOSE PROGRAMS ARE UNDER DEVELOPMENT.

I DON'T HAVE ANY INFORMATION I CAN PROVIDE AT THIS TIME, BUT I'D BE HAPPY TO HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH YOU TO TALK ABOUT.

OKAY.

THE RACIAL EQUITY PROJECTS, UM, OR CONNECT YOU WITH DR.

WILSON, IF YOU WANTED TO HEAR ABOUT MORE OF THEM.

YEAH, I WOULD BECAUSE I, I WASN'T SURE, CUZ IT SAID FAMILIES, SO I WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS LIKE A YOUNGER GROUP OF PEOPLE OR IF IT APPLIED TO SENIORS, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE SENIORS ARE USUALLY LIKE ONE OR TWO PEOPLE A COUPLE OR WHATEVER.

SO I DIDN'T KNOW IF IF SENIORS WERE INVOLVED IN THAT GROUP OR NOT.

UM, THEY'RE, SO I'M, I'M NOT REALLY PREPARED OR ABLE TO SPEAK IN DETAIL ABOUT A LOT OF THOSE PROJECTS IN THIS MOMENT.

UM, I'M JUST, I'M JUST NOT PREPARED FOR THAT IN THIS MEETING RIGHT NOW.

BUT THAT'S FINE.

UM, WE, THERE ARE A COUPLE OF EQUITY PROJECTS, UH, THAT ARE PROPOSED, UH, THAT'LL IMPACT SENIORS.

I KNOW THAT YOU'VE HEARD FROM THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT, UH, ABOUT SOME OF THAT.

THERE ARE SOME OTHER THINGS OUT THERE AS WELL.

SO, UM, I'D BE HAPPY TO, TO SHARE MORE INFORMATION AS A LOT OF THOSE THINGS SOLIDIFY MORE OR OKAY.

UM, TO POTENTIALLY, UM, BRING, BRING THEM TO, YOU KNOW, THE APPROPRIATE SUBCOMMITTEE, THE STACK OR SHARE INFORMATION WHEN IT'S, WHEN IT'S READY.

UM, BUT YEAH, I DON'T HAVE THE INFORMATION RIGHT NOW.

WE DID SAY THAT PRESENT A, A VERY HIGH LEVEL KIND OF A DRAFT OF WHAT SOME OF THOSE PROJECTS MIGHT

[00:40:01]

LOOK LIKE, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN, UM, APPROVED OR CONFIRMED.

OKAY.

I APPRECIATE THAT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

AND I DON'T KNOW IF, CUZ I KNOW THAT IN THE PAST WE WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING IF IT WASN'T ON THE AGENDA.

SO CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BUT I HAD SENT AN EMAIL TO PETER ABOUT, UH, LUIS GONZALEZ, UH, OF, UM, THE, UH, SOCIETY OF ST.

VINCENT DEPAUL.

AND THE REASON I DID WAS BECAUSE OF THE, UM, THE, UM, I DON'T KNOW WHAT PETER CALLED IT.

FORGIVE ME.

THE, THE, UM, PROPOSAL, THE, UH, AGENDA, THE GOALS THAT HE WROTE AT THE BEGINNING FOR THE SENIORS, THE, THE SAC RATHER.

AND IN IT, HE SAID THAT HE WANTED TO HAVE, UM, MEDICAL RESOURCES, UM, FOR, UH, MEDICINE, UM, UH, FOOD, CLOTHING AND THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.

AND THE REASON I WAS PUSHING, UH, MR. GONZALEZ'S ORGANIZATION IS BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY DO.

AND I KNOW THAT WHEN, UH, PETER TALKED TO DR.

HILL, DR.

HILL'S SATELLITE OFFICE WAS IN LANCASTER, AND HE FELT LIKE, BECAUSE THAT WAS NOT IN DALLAS PROPER, BUT THAT WAS NOT, UH, REALLY SOMETHING THAT WOULD HELP THE CITIZENS OF DALLAS, EVEN THOUGH SHE DOES.

AND I HAVE GIVEN HER AS A, UH, RESOURCE FOR LYNN BECAUSE SHE HAS GIVEN, UH, AIR CONDITIONING TO PEOPLE OVER HERE IN MY SECTION OF DALLAS IN THE SUMMER.

UM, BUT, UH, THEY'RE PART OF DALLAS CATHOLIC CHARITIES.

AND I NOTICED IN AN ARTICLE THAT THE, UH, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT WAS WORKING WITH CATHOLIC CHARITIES, AND THEY HAD REACHED OUT TO SOUTHWEST CATHOLIC CHARITIES AS A PARTNER ORGANIZATION FOR THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.

AND THEY DO HAVE A FREE PHARMACY FOR SENIORS.

THEY HAVE, WELL, A FREE PHARMACY FOR ANYBODY IN NEED.

THEY DO DO FOOD DRIVES, THEY DO DO MEDICAL SUPPLIES, AND THEY ARE FREE.

THOSE THINGS ARE FREE.

SO I'M, I'M NOT SURE WHY WE ARE NOT ALLOWING, AND MR. GONZALEZ WROTE ME AGAIN TO ASK WHY WE HAD THIS BACK TO HIM.

AND SO I'M JUST ASKING WHY WE ARE NOT ALLOWING THIS MAN TO COME AND SHARE WITH ALL THE COMMISSIONERS WHAT THEIR ORGANIZATION HAS TO OFFER.

AND SO IT'S JUST A QUESTION.

WELL, THE, THE, THE ANSWER IS THAT I DO HAVE A CALL INTO HIM AND, UH, I THINK YOU NEED TO CALL ME AND HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT THIS.

UH, AND IT'S NOT THAT WE'RE NOT ALLOWING ANYBODY TO DO ANYTHING.

IT'S PLANNING AGENDAS INTO THE FUTURE AND KNOWING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE ALREADY COMMITTED TO OR TRYING TO COMMIT TO.

AND WE WILL COME UP WITH A TIME FOR THEM TO PRESENT, BECAUSE I AGREE WITH YOU THAT THEY'RE A VERY GOOD ORGANIZATION AND WE SHOULD KNOW MORE ABOUT IT.

BUT IT NEEDS TO BE A PRESENTATION BY THEM, NOT YOU, A PRES.

I'M SORRY, I MISSED THE LAST PART OF YOUR STATEMENT.

THE LAST STATEMENT WAS, THIS NEEDS TO BE A PRESENTATION BY THEM.

NOT YOU.

IT'S NOT A PRESENTATION BY ME.

I'M SORRY.

YOU CAN CALL ME.

CALL ME AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT IT.

IT NEEDS TO BE A PRESENTATION BY THEM AND NOT ME.

I'M NOT MAKING A PRESENTATION, PETER.

NO.

JUST TO STATE IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON.

UH, NEXT TIME.

MS. CHAIR, MS. CHAIR, SIMPLY BEFORE YOU MOVE ON, IS THAT SOMETHING THAT IF, AND I'M, I'M, I'M, I'M POSSIBLY OUT OF ORDER, BUT IS THAT SOMETHING THAT COULD BE SHARED WITH HEALTH AND SAFETY? YES.

AND THEN HEALTH AND SAFETY COULD, UH, MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER IT'S SOMETHING WE WANT TO PUSH FORWARD TO THE TOTAL GROUP, SINCE IT DOES INVOLVE, UH, HEALTH AND SAFETY ONLY A QUESTION.

THAT'S ONE OF THE PURPOSES OF THE COMMITTEE STRUCTURE.

AND YES, IT COULD BE HANDLED THAT WAY, UH, OR THEY COULD BE CONSIDERED FOR THE AGENDA FOR THE FULL MEETING IN A FUTURE MEETING.

BUT, UH, LET ME HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH DEBBIE OFFLINE FIRST AND THEN WE'LL FIGURE OUT HOW WE'RE GONNA HANDLE IT.

THANK YOU, REESE.

THANK YOU.

BRING US UP THE DAY DOWN HOUSING.

HELLO EVERYONE.

HELLO.

HELLO.

UH, YEAH, REESE COLLINS, UH, REDEVELOPMENT MANAGER IN THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT.

UH, DON'T HAVE ANY UPDATES FOR YOU THIS MONTH, BUT THE GOAL IS TO HAVE A BIG UPDATE FOR YOU, UM, NEXT MONTH.

UH, BUT WHERE WE ARE, WE CLOSED OUT THE

[00:45:01]

SENIOR HOME REPAIR PROGRAM ON MARCH 3RD.

UM, IF YOU RECALL FROM THE LAST TIME THAT WE SPOKE, UH, WE ARE CURRENTLY THE PROCESS OF INPUTTING APPLICATIONS INTO THE SYSTEM SO THAT WE CAN COMPLETE THE LOTTERY PROCESS.

UM, AS YOU KNOW, WHEN THIS WAS INITIALLY APPROVED OR PUSHED THROUGH COUNCIL, UM, LED BY COUNCIL NUMBER RIDLEY, THERE WAS A HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS THAT WAS ALLOCATED.

UH, WHEN WE SPOKE WITH YOU GUYS LAST MONTH, WE TALKED ABOUT ANOTHER MILLION DOLLARS COMING YOUR WAY.

UM, JUST SO YOU ARE AWARE THAT ASK IS GOING TO COMMITTEE TOMORROW AT 9:00 AM SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WATCH, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO WATCH.

IT IS LABELED AS THE FEE AND LOOP.

UM, IT'S ATTACHED TO THE MIXED INCOME HOUSING DEVELOPMENT BONUS.

UM, AND SO PART OF, BASICALLY WHAT IT MEANS IS THAT WE'RE GETTING UNALLOCATED DOLLARS, WHICH ALLOWS US TO PUT THAT TOWARDS GREATER NEEDS WITH OTHER PROGRAMS WITHIN THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT.

SO THIS IS THE FIRST REQUEST THAT WE'RE MAKING WITH THOSE FUNDS THAT HAVE BEEN ALLOCATED.

AND SO THAT IS GOING, WE EXPECTED TO GO THROUGH NO ISSUES, BUT YOU NEVER KNOW.

SO PLEASE, UH, TUNE IN TO THAT.

UH, SO AGAIN, THE GOAL IS TO HAVE $1.1 MILLION AVAILABLE AND THEN TO UTILIZE A LOTTERY PROCESS, UH, WE PLAN TO START REACHING OUT TO APPLICANTS WHO HAVE SUBMITTED APPLICATIONS, UH, IN EARLY APRIL.

UM, THE UNIQUE THING THAT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF FORMALIZING WITHIN OUR POLICY AND PROCEDURES ARE THAT APPLICATIONS SHOULD BE VALID FOR UP TO ONE YEAR.

AND THE REASON FOR THAT IS BECAUSE WE DID NOT ACCEPT A FULL APPLICATION AT THE TIME WHEN WE OPENED THE PORTAL.

SO ESSENTIALLY MEANING THAT WHEN WE TAKE APPLICATIONS, WE USUALLY ASK FOR ID INCOME DOCUMENTATION, ALL THIS STUFF.

WE JUST ASK FOR THE BARE MINIMUM ID PROOF OF OWNERSHIP.

SO THAT WAY IT WASN'T A FULL APPLICATION THAT WOULD PUT A TIMELINE ON IT BECAUSE BANK STATEMENTS, PAY STUBS, THAT STUFF HAS A TIMELINE.

AND SO THAT WAS THE REASON FOR THAT.

UM, SO OUR GOAL, AGAIN IS TO, WHEN WE DO THE LOTTERY, UH, WE WILL NOT LET EVERYONE KNOW IF THEY'VE BEEN SELECTING THE FIRST GROUP, UH, BECAUSE WE ONLY HAVE 10 IS THE MINIMUM THAT WE'RE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD IN THE FIRST, AND THAT'S THE A HUNDRED THOUSAND.

SO IF YOU'RE PUTTING IN THE PLAN PERSPECTIVE, WE WOULD DO A LOTTERY FOR ABOUT 20 APPLICANTS AND THEN THE FIRST 10 WE WOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH.

BUT TYPICALLY WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FOLLOW UP WITH THAT FIRST 10, SOMEONE DOESN'T FOLLOW UP, WE CAN'T CONTACT SOMEBODY AND WE HAVE TO GIVE THEM A TIMELINE TO TURN IN INFORMATION IN.

IF THEY DON'T, WE MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ONE.

WE DON'T WANT TO TAKE A, A PROCESS TO WHERE WE DID THE 10 AND FIVE PEOPLE DIDN'T FOLLOW UP, NOW WE HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN.

UM, SO THAT, THAT'S WHERE THAT IS COMING FROM.

THE OTHER PIECE OF THAT IS, LET'S JUST SAY FOR EXAMPLE, THAT ALL 10 DO FOLLOW UP.

THIS RIGHT AWAY.

WE ALREADY HAVE OUR NEXT 10 SET UP FOR THE PROCEEDING LAIES THAT WILL COME FORWARD.

AND SO THAT IS THE OBJECTIVE TO MOVE FORWARD THROUGH THAT.

UH, WE ARE STARTING TO RECEIVE CALLS.

WE'RE REMINDING EVERYONE PLEASE GIVE US TILL THE START OF APRIL TO GIVE FOLLOW UP BECAUSE WE DO HAVE THE INPUT.

UM, THAT NUMBER IS LOOKING CLOSER TO 500, UH, APPLICANTS, WHICH IS MUCH MORE THAN YOU ANTHONY, WAY, WAY MORE THAN WHAT WE THOUGHT.

WE ARE GETTING NUMBERS, UM, THAT WE SEE TYPICALLY FOR OUR STANDARD HOME REPAIR APPLICATION WHERE WE HAVE ABOUT $4 MILLION AVAILABLE.

UM, AND THAT'S THE AMOUNT OF NEED THAT'S BEING OUT THERE.

AND SO, LIKE WE'VE SPOKEN WITH YOU GUYS ABOUT BEFORE, DOCUMENTING, UM, APPLICATIONS AND LOCATIONS AND BUILDING UP THAT DATA POOL IS A KEY COMPONENT OF THAT.

UH, AND ALSO ADVOCATING FOR WHY MORE FUNDING IS NEEDED IN THAT CAPACITY.

WHEN, WHEN YOU, UH, REPORT BACK NEXT TIME, COULD YOU, UH, GIVE US THE GEOGRAPHIC BREAKDOWN OF THE APPLICANTS THAT YOU RECEIVED BY COUNCIL DISTRICT? THE YES, THAT IS DEFINITELY THE GOAL.

I CAN DEFINITELY DO THAT.

AND WILL THE, WANNA MAKE SURE I UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

WILL THE ADDITIONAL MILLION DOLLARS IF THAT'S APPROVED, BE PART OF THE FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR THIS FIRST LOTTERY? SO, OR WILL IT BE ANOTHER ROUND? IT WILL, IT WILL BE ANOTHER ROUND.

THERE'LL BE PRECEDING ROUNDS.

SO, UH, ONE THING THAT WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO IS MANAGE EXPECTATIONS.

AND SO WE WOULD LIKELY DO 'EM IN, IN LIKE COHORTS OR GROUPS AT A TIME BECAUSE IF WE DO EVERYONE WON LOTTERY AT ONE TIME, EVERYONE DOESN'T EXPECT TO GET WORK DONE RIGHT AWAY AT ONE TIME, WHICH WE KNOW THAT'S NOT A REALITY WHEN WE HAVE TO ALSO FLOAT ANOTHER SIX OTHER REPAIR PROGRAMS. MM-HMM.

AND KNOWING CONTRACTOR CAPACITY, UM, AND JUST THE CHANGE IN MATERIAL PRICES.

SO THINGS THAT HAPPEN ON THE BACKEND THAT WE'RE CONSTANTLY WORKING WITH IS PAYING FAIR, PAYING FAIR WAGES OUT TO OUR CONTRACTORS.

AND SOMETIMES THOSE WAGES GO UP.

AND SO WE HAVE TO ADDRESS THAT BEFORE WE CAN MOVE ON TO THE NEXT BID WALK AND SO FORTH.

UH, WHICH IS A COMMUNICATION PIECE THAT'S NECESSARY WITH ALL OUR SENIORS IS SAYING, HERE'S WHAT $10,000 GETS YOU AFTER WE ASSESS YOUR PROPERTY AND SAYING, HERE'S WHAT THIS VALUE TYPICALLY SITS AT.

UM, SO THAT'S, THAT'S A BIG COMPONENT NOT GETTING LOST IN THE WEEKS, BUT ULTIMATELY IT,

[00:50:01]

WE'VE DONE IT IN GROUPS.

UM, AND IT'LL BE ALLOCATED FOR THE SENIORS UNTIL WE USE UP ALL THOSE FUNDS.

UM, I CAN TELL YOU NOW, WE WILL STOP ASKING FOR MORE MONEY.

, WE'LL CONTINUE THAT.

DEFINITE.

YES.

I CAN ALREADY TELL YOU THAT YOU DON'T HAVE SOME CHEERLEADERS.

GREAT.

I I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS.

OKAY.

SO MR. COLLINS, THIS MILLION DOLLARS YOU'RE ASKING FOR WILL JUST BE FOR SENIORS? THAT IS CORRECT.

AND IT'S FOR THE MAX OF $10,000.

UM, SO THAT WE CAN ASSIST WITH REPAIRS IS CORRECT.

OKAY, GREAT.

AND, UM, THAT'S A TWO PART WE HAVE THOUGHT THAT FAR.

SO IT'S, IT'S A TWO PART ANSWER.

OKAY.

I THINK THE SAFEST ANSWER MM-HMM.

, WE'RE LOOKING AT JUNE, JUNE, JULY.

AND THE WAY WE GET TO THAT POINT IS, LET'S SAY EVERYTHING GOES SMOOTHLY AND WE'RE ABLE TO RUN OUR, OUR LOTTERY BY MID-APRIL MM-HMM.

.

AND THEN WE THEN HAVE A FOUR WEEK WINDOW TO COLLECT ALL THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS.

AND THAT'S SOMETHING YOU JUST CAN'T JUDGE.

WE'RE GONNA HAVE A STUFF TOGETHER OR NOT.

DO THEY NEED ASSISTANCE GETTING THEIR DOCUMENTS? THAT'S JUST, WE HAVE HAVE TO MEET UP WITH THEM.

YOU KNOW, THIS IS STILL A NEW PROGRAM THAT WE'RE FIGURING OUT AFTER WE COMPLETE OBTAINING ALL THE DOCUMENTS, WE THEN HAVE TO DO AN ASSESSMENT OF THE PROPERTY THROUGH OUR INSPECTORS.

OUR INSPECTORS WILL ASSESS THE ENTIRE HOME AND THEN WILL OUTLINE HIGHEST PRIORITY.

OKAY.

AND SO THAT WILL THEN IDENTIFY WHAT WE CALL THE SCOPE OF WORK OR WORK THAT NEEDS TO BE COMPLETED.

IT WILL THEN BE PUT OUT FOR BID TO OUR PORTAL OF CONTRACTORS TO COME OUT AND SUBMIT A BID.

SO THAT TIMEFRAME IS ABOUT THREE OR FOUR WEEKS, UM, FROM THE TIME THAT THE INSPECTOR GOES OUT, THEN THEY CREATE THE ACTUAL BID WALK.

THE, UH, CONTRACTOR HAS ABOUT 10 DAYS TO RETURN ALL THAT INFORMATION BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO GO PRICE MATERIALS AND SAY, HEY, HERE'S THE AMOUNT THAT I COULD DO IT FOR.

ONCE THAT'S DONE AND WE HAVE THAT VERIFIED, WHICH I'LL APPROVE, WE THEN BUILD THE CONTRACT OUT TO START WORK.

SO THAT'S KIND OF GIVES YOU THAT TIMELINE AND THAT'S STANDARD FOR ALL OF OUR PROGRAMS, UH, JUST BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WE'RE GONNA GET AUDITED AND WE'RE GONNA MAKE SURE WE GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME.

OKAY.

I HAVE TWO MORE QUESTIONS.

LET ME FORGET.

OKAY.

UM, ONE OF THE COMMENTS AT THE BRIEFING I WENT TO ON, UH, THE CITY BUDGET WAS THAT, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH ALLOCATING THAT WHOLE MILLION DOLLARS WE ASKED FOR FROM THE COMMISSION IS THE LACK OF CONTRACTORS, ADEQUATE CONTRACTORS.

AND YOU ALL ARE EXPANDING YOUR CONTRACTORS WHEN YOU ASK FOR THIS MILLION DOLLARS.

YOU SEE BEING ABLE TO EXPAND THAT, CUZ THAT MAY BE ONE OF THE QUESTIONS YOU GET.

WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING TO EXPAND CONTRACTORS.

OKAY.

UH, AND THAT IS A NEVER ENDING TASK, UM, FOR A VARIETY OF REASONS.

RIGHT.

THE MOST COMMON ONE IS THAT CONTRACTORS REACH CAPACITY.

AND SO SURE.

UH, WE'LL HAVE CONTRACTORS OF BOSTON AND THEY CAN ONLY FLOAT SO MANY AT ONE GIVEN TIME.

UH, WE DO HAVE AN ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF CONTRACTORS THAT ARE WORKING WITH US THAT ALSO HAVE OTHER JOBS, AND SO WE WANNA MAKE SURE THEY'RE COMMITTING THEIR TIME TO THAT PROJECT AND NOT DELAYING.

AND SO THAT IS ONE COMPONENT THERE.

THE OTHER PIECE OF THAT IS, IS THAT WE ARE ALSO EXPLORING IDENTIFYING TWO OR THREE CONTRACTORS.

WELL THIS IS ALL THEY DO, TRYING TO LOWER THE RIGHT ONE, UM, TO ENTICE THEM TO FOCUS SOLELY ON JUST THESE PROJECTS BECAUSE THIS IS A CONTINUOUS FLOW THAT'S GOING TO BE GUARANTEED FOR THEM TO HAVE THEIR SUBS COME OUT AND THEY CAN KEEP THE WORK GOING SO THEY DON'T LOSE WORKERS.

RIGHT.

AND SO THOSE, UH, HAVE IT INCLUDED IN OUR PMP SO THAT WE CAN HAVE THOSE OPTIONS AVAILABLE.

UM, AND THE LAST THING THAT'S IN THERE THAT THORNE AND I TAKE A LOT OF PRIDE IN IS THAT RE VETTING THEM.

SO WE HAVE A PROCESS OF VETTING OUR CONTRACTORS, BUT WE UNDERSTAND WORKING WITH OUR SENIORS, THERE'S A DIFFERENT TYPE OF HANDHOLDING THAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN.

MM-HMM.

, UM, THERE'S A DIFFERENT TYPE OF COMMUNICATION THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR.

EVERYONE'S NOT DOING TEXT MESSAGES.

SOME DO, SOME DON'T.

MM-HMM.

, SOME PREFER A KNOCK ON THE DOOR.

THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT METHODS THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE BEING CLEAR.

UM, AND THEN THE LAST PIECE OF IT IS, UH, ONE THING THAT CONSISTENTLY COMES UP IS OUR TIME ORDER CHANGES.

SO WE WILL OUTLINE HOW LONG IT TAKES TO DO THE PROJECT.

SO LET'S JUST CALL IT A HOT WATER HEATER.

MM-HMM.

, WHICH SHOULD BE A TWO OR THREE DAY PROJECT MM-HMM.

, BUT WHEN THEY SUBMIT THE TIME, THEY SUBMIT WHAT THEIR BID IS TO DO THE WORK, AND WHEN THE CONTRACT IS SIGNED, THE HOTTER WATER HEATER, AMERICA WENT ON BACK ORDERING.

IF IT'S GONE ON BACK ORDER, THEY, WE NEED NOTIFY EVERYBODY AND SAY, HEY, INSTEAD OF IT BE TWO DAYS, IT'S NOT A WEEK.

YOU KNOW, AND THOSE THAT THERE'S DIFFERENT THINGS THAT COME UP IN A PROJECT, IT'S NOT, DOESN'T HAPPEN ALL THE TIME, BUT IT DEFINITELY HAPPENS ENOUGH FOR US TO BE AWARE OF THAT AND MAKING SURE THAT THAT CONTRACTOR ALONG WITH THE CITY IS COMMUNICATING WITH WHICHEVER APPLICANTS.

AND ITS NOT JUST YOU, IT HAPPENS TO EVERYBODY.

THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT.

LIKE IT STUCK OVERSEAS A COUPLE YEARS AGO.

, WE ALL, WE, WE ALL HEAR YOU, UM, SAY AGAIN, THAT MEETING IN THE MORNING, WHAT MEETING IS IT? IT'S AT NINE O'CLOCK.

IS

[00:55:01]

IT THE HOUSING AND HOMELESS SOLUTIONS MEETING.

OKAY.

AND IT, IT STARTS AT 9:00 AM YOU SOMETHING LIKE NINE 15 ISH? UM, YES.

AND IT'S THE THEME LOOP AND THOR WILL BE BRIEFING, I'LL BE PRESENT AS WELL.

OKAY.

UM, TALKING ABOUT HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED.

AND SO IN CASE THERE'S QUESTIONS TO SUPPORT THE NEED AND OUR CONFERENCE THAT WE CAN MOVE THIS MONEY QUICKLY IN AN APPROPRIATE MANNER SHOULD OKAY.

THANK YOU.

NO PROBLEM.

ONE OTHER QUESTION THAT I, I WANNA MAKE SURE I UNDERSTOOD ARE THE, FOR THE LOTTERY FOR THIS MILLION ONE, ASSUMING MEAN THAT'S WHAT IT TURNS OUT TO BE, OR THE LOTES ARE THE ONLY ELIGIBLE PEOPLE FOR THOSE LOTTERIES, THE PEOPLE WHO SIGNED UP IN THIS FIRST INITIAL THING, OR NOW THAT THERE'S MORE MONEY, WILL YOU REOPEN APPLICATIONS BEFORE A YEAR FROM NOW? WE WOULD NOT REOPEN APPLICATIONS.

SO WITHIN IS WHAT SAID, WE HAVE DEFINITELY BEEN GETTING PEOPLE TRYING TO TURN IN, FORCING THAT TIMELINE IS PASS.

UH, WE'VE BEEN COMMUNICATING THAT WITH OUR LIBRARIES AND REC CENTERS.

UM, AND THEN JUST TO REITERATE ON THAT CAPACITY, REMEMBER THERE'S THREE WAYS TO GET THREE TICKETS, UH, ESSENTIALLY IN THE LOTTERY.

HMM.

IF YOU'RE 65 AND OLDER, YOU CAN APPLY ESSENTIALLY, IF THAT GIVES YOU ONE TICKET, IF YOU'RE OVER 75, YOU CAN GET AN EXTRA TICKET IF YOU OUTLINE AN ACCESSIBILITY REPAIR NEED, GET A THIRD TICKET, BASICALLY GIVING YOU THREE TIMES A VERY CHANCE OF GETTING SELECTED, UH, FROM WHAT OUR PREVIOUS CONVERSATIONS WERE.

YEAH.

THAT'S COOL.

THANKS.

THANK YOU.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO, BUT I, I'M JUST THRILLED TO HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE HERE.

YEAH.

HEY, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

ABSOLUTELY.

NO PROBLEM.

THANK YOU.

OKAY, THANKS.

I APPRECIATE IT.

NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS, UH, A BRIEFING BY KATHY , UH, IN THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION PROGRAMS. GOOD AFTERNOON, AND THANK YOU FOR INVITING ME TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL TODAY.

THIS HAS BEEN VERY INTERESTING AND I SEE AN HGTV SHOW ABOUT THE SENIOR, UM, IMPROVEMENTS IN HOUSING ON THE HORIZON.

THAT WOULD BE REALLY COOL.

UM, SO, UM, MICHAEL'S GONNA ADVANCE SLIDES FOR ME AND, UM, MIHAIL, IF YOU WOULD.

THERE YOU GO.

YEAH.

AND THEN WE'LL START OUT WITH JUST A BRIEF VIDEO THAT GIVES YOU, UM, JUST KIND OF A, A QUICK LOOK AT SOME OF THE CURRENT STATISTICS ABOUT THE IMPACT OF THIS.

THANK YOU MCC.

GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

UM, I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO, UH, TO FIRST OF ALL, THANK, UH, COMMISSIONER AUSTIN.

UH, SHE HAS BEEN A, A, A LONG VOLUNTEER OF THE ASSOCIATION.

UM, SUCH A, AN AMAZING ADVOCATE FOR US, HAS PARTICIPATED IN OUR MISSION IN A MULTITUDE OF WAYS.

UM, I ALSO RECENTLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET, UH, COMMISSIONER, UH, MARION WILLIAMS IN SOME WORK THAT I KNOW SHE'S INVOLVED WITH, UM, FRAZIER REVITALIZATION.

AND, UH, AT THE ASSOCIATION WE'RE, WE'RE TRYING TO, UH, WORK MORE CLOSELY WITH A LOT OF OUR, ESPECIALLY OUR SOUTH DALLAS, UH, COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

UH, MCIL HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT COMMITTEES, AND MOST RECENTLY, UM, PARTICIPATED IN OUR HOPE FOR TOMORROW BLACK CAREGIVER CONFERENCE WE HAD AT METHODIST HOSPITAL.

HE AND JAMES HAVE SERVED ON OUR SOUTH DALLAS COMMUNITY ACTION NETWORK.

UH, AND THEN ANNA HAS BEEN VERY ENGAGED WITH OUR, UH, MANAGER OF DIVERSITY EQUITY INCLUSION AND ELDA AGUIRE.

SO WE JUST REALLY APPRECIATE, UM, ALL THAT THE CITY HAS DONE TO HELP US AND, UH, AND WORKING WITH SENIORS.

AND ANYTHING THAT WE CAN DO IN TURN, UM, PLEASE, WE'D LIKE FOR YOU ALL TO SEE US,

[01:00:01]

UM, AS A STRONG RESOURCE.

SO THE MISSION OF THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION, UH, EVEN THOUGH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IS IN OUR NAME, OUR MISSION IS TO END ALZHEIMER'S AND ALL OTHER DEMENTIA.

AND WE'RE DOING THAT BY ACCELERATING GLOBAL RESEARCH, DRIVING RISK REDUCTION IN EARLY DETECTION, AND THEN MAXIMIZING QUALITY CARE AND SUPPORT.

SO WE'RE INVOLVED IN RESEARCH THAT'S GOING ON GLOBALLY AS WELL AS LOCALLY.

UH, WHEN IT COMES TO THE, UH, DRIVING RISK REDUCTION IN EARLY DETECTION, UM, THIS IS AN IMPORTANT KEY.

SO MUCH OF RESEARCH AS OF LATE IS POINTING TO THOSE LIFESTYLE FACTORS THAT CAN INFLUENCE SOMEONE'S, UH, LONG-TERM RISK OF DEVELOPING COG OR HAVING COGNITIVE DECLINE.

AND SO, UM, I I HAVE AN ASK OF YOU ALL TODAY AS, UH, COMMISSIONERS AND WORKING WITH YOUR SENIORS IN YOUR DISTRICTS, UH, WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE EV ALL OF THE SERVICES WE OFFER COMPLETELY FREE.

WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, UH, WITHIN EACH OF YOUR DISTRICTS.

UM, FOR WHATEVER AUDIENCE, UH, YOU CAN CONNECT US WITH, UM, I BROUGHT, I'LL HAND OVER JERRY.

THERE'S NICE SOME BUSINESS CARDS.

UM, WE HAVE A VARIETY, SO MANY DIFFERENT EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS, BUT ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR SENIORS BECAUSE OFTENTIMES WHEN THEY HAVE, IF A PRO PROGRAM HAS THE WORD ALZHEIMER'S IN IT, THEY, UM, MIGHT SHY AWAY FROM IT.

UM, BUT WE HAVE A PROGRAM CALLED HEALTHY LIVING FOR YOUR BRAIN AND BODY.

AND IT'S ALL ABOUT WHAT RESEARCH IS TELLING US IN TERMS OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO HAVE CONTROL OVER THAT COULD INFLUENCE OUR, UM, OUR LONG-TERM BRAIN HEALTH.

UM, WE LOVE TO PARTNER WITH THE AGRILIFE EXTENSION AGENT, UH, IN DALLAS COUNTY, LIZ ESPY.

WE DO A COOKING DEMO AND WE HAVE THIS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM SENIORS REALLY ENJOY THAT.

WE WERE ABLE TO, UH, PROVIDE THAT ACTUALLY FOR FRAZIER REVITALIZATION BACK IN THEIR FALL, FOR THEIR TRI TRI TUESDAY PROGRAM.

UM, AND THEN AS FAR AS MAXIMIZING QUALITY CARE AND SUPPORT, UH, WE ARE ALL ABOUT MAKING SURE THAT, FIRST OF ALL, WE'RE TRYING REALLY HARD TO WORK OUR WAY OUT OF A JOB.

UM, WE WILL HAVE A FIRST SURVIVOR OF THIS DISEASE AT SOME POINT.

UM, BUT IN THE MEANTIME, THOSE WHO ARE LIVING WITH THIS DISEASE AND THEIR CAREGIVERS NEED ALL THE SUPPORT WE CAN PROVIDE FOR THEM.

SO I'D ALSO ENCOURAGE YOU ALL, AS YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT SURVEYING THE SENIORS IN YOUR DISTRICTS, I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING HOW MANY OF THEM ARE CURRENTLY CARING FOR SOMEONE, UH, WHO IS A, A, A FELLOW SENIOR OR MAYBE CARRYING, YOU KNOW, IF THEY IDENTIFY AS A CAREGIVER.

NOW, WE DO KNOW WITHIN THE HISPANIC COMMUNITY, OFTENTIMES THE WORD CAREGIVER DOESN'T NECESSARILY TRANSLATE BECAUSE THEY, THEY DON'T SEE THAT AS A JOB OR AS A, A ROLE.

THAT'S, THAT'S JUST WHO THEY ARE, YOU KNOW, WITHIN THEIR FAMILY.

UM, BUT I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN KNOWING, UM, YOU KNOW, HOW MANY, HOW MANY INDIVIDUALS ARE, ARE, ARE PROVIDING INFORMAL CAREGIVING FOR SOMEONE, UM, BECAUSE MEETING THEIR NEEDS IS CRITICAL IN ORDER THAT THEY CAN DO, THEY CAN FILL THAT ROLE, UM, AND, YOU KNOW, WITHOUT SACRIFICING THEIR OWN HEALTH AND WELLBEING.

UM, SO NEXT SLIDE.

, LIKE HOW NEXT? IT'S NOT, IT HASN'T ADVANCED YET.

THERE WE GO.

SO JUST A LITTLE BIT OF LEVEL SETTING.

UM, YOU KNOW, DEMENTIA IS THE UMBRELLA FIRM AND ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, ACTUALLY GO BACK ONE MORE.

ALL ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IS THE MOST COMMON FORM OF DEMENTIA.

GO BACK ONE MORE SLIDE.

THERE WE GO.

RIGHT THERE.

UM, THERE WITH THE UMBRELLA.

THAT'S IT.

YES.

UM, YOU HAVE A VARIETY OF SOURCES OF DEMENTIA AND SO OFTENTIMES WE'LL HEAR PEOPLE SAY, WELL, MY MOTHER DOESN'T HAVE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, SHE HAS DEMENTIA.

SO JUST KEEP IN MIND THAT THAT'S THE UMBRELLA TERM.

IT'S SO IMPORTANT THAT PEOPLE GO TO DE GO TO THE DOCTOR AND IDENTIFY THE SOURCE OF THEIR DEMENTIA BECAUSE THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT CAN CAUGHT, CAN MIMIC DEMENTIA, UM, THAT ARE TREATABLE.

UH, WE ALSO KNOW THAT THE PROGRESSION OF EACH TYPE OF DEMENTIA LOOKS A LITTLE DIFFERENT.

AND WHILE WE DON'T HAVE A MAGIC BULLET RIGHT NOW THAT CURES THE DISEASE, THERE ARE, THERE ARE COURSES OF TREATMENT AND THEY'RE GONNA LOOK DIFFERENT DEPENDING ON THE TYPE OF DEMENTIA.

SO JUST MAKING SURE EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS AND WE'RE SEEING MORE AND MORE DIAGNOSES OF MIXED DEMENTIA.

SO SOMEONE WHO MAY HAVE BOTH ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE AND ANOTHER TYPE OF DEMENTIA.

SO NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE, PLEASE LEMME KNOW.

I'M SORRY.

PLEASE, LEMME KNOW IF IT CHANGE.

OH, OKAY.

IT'S, THEY, THERE WE GO.

IT CHANGED.

GREAT.

UH, AND JUST AGAIN, SPEAKING TO, UM, OUR ROLE AS BEING A LEADER IN THE WOR IN THE, UH, THE WORLD OF RESEARCH, THERE'S ONLY TWO ORGANIZATIONS ON THE PLANET THAT POUR MORE MONEY INTO RESEARCH FOR CURE IN THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION.

AND THAT'S THE

[01:05:01]

US AND CHINESE GOVERNMENTS.

UM, AT THE END, THERE'S A LITTLE BIT, THERE'S A LITTLE SLIDE THAT, UM, TALKS ABOUT, YOU KNOW, BEC AND ENGAGING WITH THE WALK, YOU KNOW, OUR WALK INTO ALZHEIMER'S THAT HAPPENS EVERY FALL ACROSS THE COUNTRY, OVER 600 COMMUNITIES, HOST WALKS.

AND I'M VERY PROUD TO SAY THAT OUR DALLAS WALK STARTS OUT AT DALLAS CITY HALL PLAZA, THAT YOU GUYS ARE OUR HOST, WHICH IS SUCH A PERFECT PLACE, UH, FOR THAT EVENT TO, UH, FOR THAT TO BE THE HUB FOR THE EVENT IN DALLAS.

I WOULD ENCOURAGE ALL OF YOU, IF YOU HAVEN'T HAD A CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN A WALK, $10 MEMBERS, UH, TO CONSIDER DOING SO.

IT'S, UM, IT, IT'S JUST AN AWESOME OPPORTUNITY FOR THOSE WHO ARE IMPACTED BY THIS DISEASE TO FEEL THAT THEY'RE TRULY NOT ALONE.

UM, AND JUST TO HAVE THAT, THAT TIME OF, UM, IT'S JUST, IT'S SUCH A, A, AN AMAZING COLLECTION OF SUPPORT FOR THOSE INDIVIDUALS.

UM, BUT WE'RE ENGAGED WITH, UM, WE'RE POURING OVER 300 MILLION INTO RESEARCH, UM, OVER 920 ACTIVE RESEARCH PROJECTS IN OVER 45 COUNTRIES.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

UM, AND THE NEXT SLIDE SPEAKS TO THE, UM, UNFORTUNATELY INDIVIDUALS, IF THEY'RE SEEING SIGNS OR SYMPTOMS IN THEMSELVES, THEY ARE HESITANT TO TALK TO THEIR DOCTOR.

UM, IF YOU ASK SENIORS, DO YOU FEEL THAT, UH, BRAIN HEALTH OR COGNITIVE DECLINE IS, UH, IS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE, THEY'LL SAY YES.

YOU ASK THEM, WELL, DO YOU, WILL YOU BRING IT UP WITH YOUR DOCTOR? ONLY FOUR.

AND AND EXCITING TO BRING IT, DOCTOR.

YES, WE, UM, UNFORTUNATELY, THE OTHER FLIP SIDE OF THAT IS IF YOU ASK THE DOCTORS, IS THIS AN IMPORTANT ISSUE? THE DOCTORS WILL SAY YES.

AND THEN YOU'LL SAY, WELL, HOW OFTEN DO YOU BRING IT UP WITH YOUR PATIENTS? AND MANY DOCTORS WILL SAY, WELL, I WAIT FOR THEM TO BRING IT UP.

UM, NOW PART OF THE ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT THAT I WOULD LOVE, YOU KNOW, I'M SURE YOU ALL HAVE DONE, YOU KNOW, YOUR PART IN TRYING TO PUSH THIS OUT WITHIN YOUR DISTRICT, BUT YOU KNOW, EVERY MEDICARE RECIPIENT OVER 65, THEY HAVE ACCESS TO THIS FREE ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT THAT'S VERY UNDERUTILIZED.

AND PART OF THAT SHOULD INCLUDE A BRIEF COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT.

AND IT'S JUST A SHORT, YOU KNOW, VERY LITTLE, YOU KNOW, IT COULD BE ONE OF THOSE FIVE QUESTION ASSESSMENTS JUST TO GIVE THE PHYSICIAN THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY RED FLAGS.

AND SO PARTICIPATING IN THAT ANNUAL WELLNESS VISIT AND MAKING SURE THAT BRIEF COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT IS PART OF IT, IS REALLY AN IMPORTANT PART.

IT CAN ALSO BE A, A GOOD TIME TO IF, IF FAMILIES ARE BEGINNING TO HAVE CONCERNS ABOUT THEIR LOVED ONE AND IF THEY ACCOMPANY THEM TO THIS VISIT, AND IF THAT BRIEF COGNITIVE ASSESSMENT DOES BRING UP SOME RED FLAGS, THEN THAT FAMILY MEMBER CAN MAYBE ENCOURAGE A CONVERSATION, UH, WITH THE DOCTORS.

SO WE'RE UP AGAINST, YOU KNOW, BATTLING THE, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE FOLKS NOT WILLING TO BRING IT UP WITH THEIR DOCTOR, AND THEN WE HAVE DOCTORS THAT ARE NOT BRINGING IT UP WITH THEIR PATIENTS.

SO, NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

WE ALSO KNOW THAT WE HAVE OVER 11 MILLION AMERICANS WHO ARE PROVIDING UNPAID CARE FOR SOMEONE WITH, WITH ALZHEIMER'S OR DEMENTIA.

AND THAT EQUATES TO A VALUE OF OVER 271 BILLION.

WE FIND THAT WOMEN ARE MORE LIKELY TO GIVE UP THEIR CAREERS OR CUT BACK ON THEIR HOURS TO PROVIDE, YOU KNOW, TO PROVIDE DIRECT CAREGIVING.

UM, AND WE DO FIND THAT WITHIN, UM, CERTAIN RACIAL COMMUNITIES THAT YOU'RE GONNA SEE A HIGHER PREVALENCE OF FAMILY CAREGIVING.

UM, I DON'T KNOW THAT EVERY BACK TO THE POINT OF EVERYONE NOT REALLY IDENTIFYING THEMSELVES AS A CAREGIVER.

UM, WE HAVE A NEIGHBOR, BUT ELDERLY NEIGHBOR ACROSS THE STREET.

SHE HAS NO ONE.

WHILE I'M NOT OVER THERE EVERY DAY COOKING HER MEALS OR HELPING HER GET DRESSED, WE ARE PART OF HER INFORMAL CAREGIVING NETWORK.

AND I THINK MANY OF YOU ALL PROBABLY STILL GO LIKE THAT OUTSIDE.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

UM, SO JUST A FEW OF THE THINGS THAT WE CAN PROVIDE.

WE HAVE A 24 7 HEALTH LINE, AND I'VE BROUGHT SOME LITTLE BUCK SLIPS WITH ME TODAY.

WE HAVE, I HAVE SO MANY DIFFERENT BROCHURES, I CAN JUST PLUG YOUR OFFICE.

YOU DON'T WANT THAT.

UM, BUT I WILL SAY THAT OUR SINGLE MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE IS OUR 24 7 HELPLINE.

THIS TRULY IS AVAILABLE FOR YOU AND ANYONE, WHETHER THEY'RE CALLING, WHICH IS A GENERAL QUESTION ABOUT DEMENTIA, OR THEY'RE TRYING TO GET CONNECTED WITH A LOCAL RESOURCE, OR IT'S 2:00 AM AND THEIR MOTHER IS INSISTENT THAT SHE NEEDS TO LEAVE AND GO TO THE BEAUTY SHOP AND THEY JUST DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO THEIR, THEIR WHAT'S IN, AS LONG AS IT'S A NON-EMERGENCY KIND OF SITUATION.

THEN WE HAVE LICENSED CLINICAL INDIVIDUALS WHO CAN, WHO ANSWER THAT PHONE AND CAN WALK THEM THROUGH THAT TIME OF CRISIS.

UM, I BROUGHT BOTH OUR ENGLISH AND SPANISH VERSION OF THE 24 7 BUCKS SLIPS.

[01:10:01]

I'LL PUT THEM ON THAT BACK TABLE.

YOU GUYS TAKE, TAKE ALL YOU WANT.

AND IF YOU'D LIKE MORE, JUST LET ME KNOW.

I'M HAPPY TO GET YOU AS MANY YOU'D LIKE.

UH, WE ALSO HAVE FREE EDUCATION PROGRAMS. IF YOU GO TO OUR WEBSITE, WHICH IS SO EASY TO REMEMBER, ALC.ORG, .

UM, AND THEN, UH, IF YOU GO TO ALC.ORG/EDUCATION, WE, YOU CAN VIEW ANY OF OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS, UH, ANYTIME DAY OR NIGHT.

YOU ALSO GET A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION.

UM, I ALWAYS LIKE TO CHALLENGE ORGANIZATIONS TO MAYBE HAVE A LITTLE COMPETITION AND SEE WHO CAN WATCH THE, YOU KNOW, THE MOST EDUCATION MODULES AND, YOU KNOW, MIGHT EVEN GIVE YOU GUYS A PRIZE.

UM, BUT IT'S FREE AND IT'S JUST A REALLY GREAT WAY FOR YOU TO FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF AND UNDERSTAND THE DISEASE A LITTLE BIT BETTER.

UM, WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH A A R P WITH A SEARCH ENGINE CALLED THE COMMUNITY RESOURCE FINDER.

INDIVIDUALS CAN GO IN THERE AND SEARCH BY ZIP CODE FOR A VARIETY OF RESOURCES OR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES.

UM, UM, THAT'S NOT, AND I SOMEHOW OVERLOOKED INCLUDING THIS SLIDE.

BUT WE HAVE SUPPORT GROUPS THROUGHOUT OUR FOOTPRINT.

WE SERVE THE 30, WE SERVE 34 COUNTIES, SO DALLAS COUNTY BEING OUR LARGEST SERVICE AREA, BUT WE GO ALL THE WAY UP TO THE RED RIVER OVER TO LOUISIANA AND AS FAR DOWN AS KEY ANDERSON COUNTIES.

UM, SO THERE'S 34 COUNTIES IN TOTAL.

I WOULD LOVE BECAUSE DALLAS IS WHERE WE HAVE THE HIGHEST CONCENTRATION OF OUR SUPPORT GROUPS.

UM, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THERE BEING A SUPPORT GROUP IN EVERY ONE OF YOUR DISTRICTS.

AND WHAT I CAN DO IS I CAN, I CAN PULL OUR SUPPORT GROUPS AND I'LL GO THROUGH THERE AND KIND.

I SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE THIS MEETING BECAUSE IF WE FIND THAT THERE IS A DISTRICT WHERE THERE IS NOT AN IN-PERSON SUPPORT GROUP BEING OFFERED, I'D LOVE TO WORK WITH YOU TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

UM, AND THEN OF COURSE WE HAVE OUR, WE DO IN-PERSON EDUCATION PROGRAMS. AGAIN, CALL ME, WELCOME ME, LET'S, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE TRAINED VOLUNTEERS WHO CAN COME OUT AND PROVIDE THOSE EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR YOU.

I APPRECIATE, UM, ALL THAT DEBBIE DID.

AND MCKAY WILL REALLY MAKE EVERYBODY AWARE ABOUT THE HOPE FOR TOMORROW EVENT THAT WE HAD RECENTLY.

UM, AT METHODIST HOSPITAL, WE HAVE A GREAT PROGRAM COMING UP IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE SENIOR SOURCE THAT WILL BE, UM, IT'LL BE FOCUSING ON LEGAL AND FINANCIAL ISSUES.

UM, AND THAT'S GOING TO BE APRIL THE 20TH.

IS THAT THE 20TH? 28TH? APRIL 28TH.

APRIL 28TH.

UM, AND SO WE'LL MAKE SURE OF COURSE, THAT WE GET YOU ALL INFORMATION ABOUT THAT.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

UM, WE HAVE A COUPLE OF REALLY VALUABLE ONLINE RESOURCES AS WELL.

UM, THERE'S A, WE HAVE ALLS CONNECTED, WHICH IS AN ONLINE MESSAGE BOARD.

THIS IS, THIS ALLOWS INDIVIDUALS THAT MAYBE THEY'RE NOT QUITE READY TO DIP THEIR TOE INTO AN IN-PERSON SUPPORT GROUP, BUT THEY WANT TO JUST KNOW THAT THERE'S OTHER PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO ARE, YOU KNOW, I TELL YOU WHAT THE BIGGEST VALUE OF A SUPPORT GROUP IS, WHAT THE PARTICIPANTS LEARN FROM EACH OTHER.

UM, AND THEN FOR THEM TO BE REASSURED THAT THEY'RE NOT IN THIS CAREGIVING JOURNEY ALONE.

SO ON ALLS CONNECTED, YOU CAN GO IN THERE AND WHETHER YOU'RE LIVING WITH THE DISEASE, YOU'RE A CAREGIVER, YOU'RE A PROFESSIONAL, UM, YOU CAN DRILL DOWN TO YOUR A DAUGHTER, YOUR, THEN YOU CAN FIND YOUR COMMUNITY WITHIN ALLS CONNECTED AND FOLLOW THE DIFFERENT CONVERSATION THREADS.

IT MIGHT BE, YOU KNOW, DAD IS INSISTING ON DRIVING, HOW IN THE WORLD DO I BRING IT UP WITH HIM TO GIVE UP THE KEYS, UH, TO MY MOM IS SURE THAT MY SISTER IS, YOU KNOW, STEALING MONEY FROM HER.

UM, YOU KNOW, AND THERE'S, SO YOU HAVE INDIVIDUALS THAT THEY'RE EXPERIENCING THOSE THINGS.

SAME THINGS.

AND IT'S MODERATED BY THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION.

UM, SO WE WATCH FOR ANYTHING, YOU KNOW, ANYTHING FUNNY.

THAT'S ANOTHER GREAT RESOURCE.

UH, NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

OH, JUST REAL QUICK.

AND MACHA, YOU CAN JUST KIND OF KEEP CLICKING.

I ALWAYS LIKE TO MAKE SURE PEOPLE KNOW WHAT'S, YOU KNOW, MY WHO AND WHAT MY, MY WHAT, MY WHO AND MY WHY.

UM, AND SO IN A SECOND, UH, AS IT CATCHES UP, YOU'LL SEE PICTURES.

SO, UM, THOSE WERE MY PARENTS, HARRY AND LILLIAN, UH, TARA.

I, I'M AN ONLY CHILD.

THEY WERE A LITTLE BIT OLDER WHEN I WAS BORN.

I ALWAYS HAVE AND FELT REALLY COMFORT GROW AROUND SENIORS.

UM, MY FATHER PASSED AWAY IN JULY AND HE HAD HAD A BROKEN HIP.

AND I, YOU KNOW, HE EXPERIENCED DELIRIUM IN THE HOSPITAL AFTER HIS SURGERIES.

HE DEFINITELY HAD SOME CONFUSION.

UM, AND I WAS VERY FORTUNATE, FELT BLESSED THAT I HAD THE EXPERIENCE THAT I DO.

I'M A LICENSED NURSING HOME ADMINISTRATOR.

AND, YOU KNOW, WHEN HE WOULD CALL ME AND BE OBSESSED THAT I HADN'T TOLD HIM THAT, YOU KNOW, HE'S LIKE, KATHY, THEY TOLD ME THAT I, I HAD HIP SURGERY YESTERDAY.

WHY DIDN'T ANYBODY TELL ME THAT WAS GONNA HAPPEN? , YOU KNOW, I COULD JUST GO WITH IT AND SAY, I'M SO SORRY.

I SHOULD HAVE TOLD YOU , UM, THE SEES, THAT'S MY, MY NEPHEW DO, MY NEPHEW DOMINIC.

AND, UM, MY TWO DAUGHTERS AND ONE OF MY BIG WIVES,

[01:15:02]

AND YOU CAN KEEP CLICKING MACKAY, IS BETWEEN MY, MY NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND MY OWN CHILDREN.

UM, I WANT THEM TO ONLY KNOW ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE BY READING IT ABOUT IT IN A TEXTBOOK.

I REALLY WANT THIS TO BE SOMETHING THAT IS IN THE PAST.

WE HAVE THAT FIRST, UM, THAT FIRST SURVIVOR, UM, THAT FIRST SURVIVOR IS GONNA COME FROM, FROM A CLINICAL TRIAL.

AND ANOTHER THING THAT I COULD DEFINITELY USE YOUR HELP WITH, UM, IS WE DO A LOT OF WORK TO TRY TO EDUCATE, ESPECIALLY WITHIN OUR AFRICAN AMERICAN, OUR BLACK AFRICAN AMERICAN AND HISPANIC COMMUNITIES, ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF THEIR REPRESENTATION IN CLINICAL TRIALS.

UM, IT'S JUST VERY CRITICAL BECAUSE WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT WHEN THERE IS A CURE DEVELOPED, IT'S, IT'S A CURE FOR EVERYBODY.

WE KNOW IT'S GONNA WORK FOR EVERYBODY.

UM, NEXT SLIDE IS, SO I THINK THE NEXT ONE IS, UM, YOU KNOW, WHAT CAN YOU DO? AND I'VE ALREADY GIVEN YOU A COUPLE LITTLE CALLS TO ACTION.

YOU KNOW, I'M GONNA DO MY HOMEWORK AND SEE, UM, IF WE HAVE A SUPPORT GROUP IN EACH OF YOUR DISTRICTS.

AND IF WE DON'T, I'LL BE REACHING OUT TO YOU AND SEE IF YOU CAN HELP ME.

WE'D LIKE TO IDENTIFY, UH, NEUTRAL LOCATIONS FOR THOSE TO TAKE PLACE.

SO NOT IN A NURSING HOME.

UM, WE FIND THAT, UH, NURSING AND STAFF, UM, WE, WE FIND, WE HAVE VOLUNTEERS WHO FACILITATE THESE GROUPS ALL HAVE NURSING HOMES CALL UP OR ASSISTED LIVINGS, AND THEY HAVE A NEW MARKETING DIRECTOR AND THEY WANT START A SUPPORT GROUP.

AND BECAUSE THEIR DIRECTOR TOLD 'EM THEY HAD TO, YOU KNOW, AND THEN IN SIX MONTHS THEY'RE GONE.

AND THERE'S NOT THAT CONSISTENCY.

SO A FEW YEARS AGO, THE ASSOCIATION, YOU KNOW, WE NOW HAVE A BEST PRACTICE THAT WE SET THOSE UP IN SENIOR CENTERS, IN LIBRARIES, IN CHURCHES AND OTHER, YOU KNOW, OTHER PLACES THAT ARE, UH, OUTSIDE OF CARE FACILITIES.

UM, BUT AS AN INDIVIDUAL, YOU CAN SHARE YOUR PERSONAL STORY AS AN ADVOCATE IF YOU'VE BEEN IMPACTED BY THIS DISEASE.

RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ADVOCATES.

THIS IS, UM, ADVOCACY FORUM HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN WASHINGTON DC.

AND SO WE, WE COLOR, WE, UM, WE, WE, WE SAY WE UM, WE TURN THE HILL PURPLE.

AND RIGHT NOW ADVOCATES FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY ARE IN WASHINGTON.

AND ONE OF OUR BIG FIGHTS RIGHT NOW THAT WE HAVE IS TRYING TO CONVINCE CMS THAT THEY ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO PAY FOR THESE NEWLY APPROVED FDA TREATMENTS, LACAN, UM, BECAUSE IT'S JUST, UM, IT'S CRIMINAL THAT THEY'RE NOT.

UM, ANYWAY, I CAN GET ON A WHOLE SOAPBOX ABOUT THAT.

UM, HELPING YOUR NEIGHBORS, JUST KNOWING ABOUT EDUCATION AND OPPORTUNITIES COMING UP FOR SUPPORT GROUPS.

IF YOU WANNA BECOME A VOLUNTEER, WE, IT'S LOVE TO HAVE, UM, IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE A DEMENTIA EXPERT, YOU JUST HAVE TO HAVE A PASSION FOR RAISING AWARENESS AND SHARING INFORMATION.

UM, AS AN ORGANIZATION, A GROUP OR BUSINESS, OR AS A COMMISSIONER'S, UH, YOU KNOW, TEAM OF COMMISSIONERS, UM, WE'D LOVE TO HAVE YOU GUYS OUT THERE, MAYBE HAVE A, A WALK TEAM FROM EACH OF YOUR DISTRICTS.

UM, IT DOESN'T COST ANYTHING TO START A WALK TEAM.

AND AGAIN, LIKE I SAID, IT'S JUST A GREAT WAY TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR THOSE WHO ARE LIVING WITH THE DISEASE AND IMPACT IT.

UM, AND THEN SHARING OUT WITHIN YOUR COMMUNITY THE RESOURCES.

WE HEAR TOO OFTEN, IF WE'VE ONLY KNOWN ABOUT YOU GOING THROUGH THIS WITH MY MOM, AND, YOU KNOW, AS SOMEONE WHO LIVES AND BREATHES IT EVERY DAY, I JUST THINK, HOW COULD YOU HAVE NOT KNOWN ABOUT US, BUT THEY'RE, BUT ACROSS THE COUNTRY, WE KNOW THAT WE ARE ONLY AT THIS POINT REACHING ABOUT 2% OF THE 65 PLUS POPULATION.

AND SO THERE'S SO MUCH WE NEED TO DO.

AND, BUT WE CAN ONLY DO IT THROUGH PARTNERSHIPS.

AND WE RELY ON ORGANIZATIONS THAT ARE THOSE TRUSTED ENTITIES.

UM, Y'ALL WERE TALKING ABOUT THOSE SURVEYS JUST LIKE THAT YOU PARTNER WITH FAITH COMMUNITY, THAT THEY BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER.

THEY TAKE THE SURVEY BECAUSE THEY'RE GONNA TRUST THEIR, YOU KNOW, AND THEIR HOUSE OF WORSHIP, THEIR MINISTER IF HE SAYS IT'S OKAY.

AND SO WE PARTNER WITH THE AME CHURCH, WITH THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF HISPANIC NURSES, UM, WITH BLACK NURSES ROCK WITH, UM, WITH THE SUSHI FOUNDATION.

I MEAN, ALL OF THESE ORGANIZATIONS THAT WE HAVE NATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS WITH AN EFFORT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE REACHING AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

AND I THINK I ALREADY, I TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT WALK AND THAT I THINK IS THE NEXT SLIDE.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE THE LONGEST DAY YOU CAN GO AHEAD AND KEEP ADVANCING WITH KYLE.

AND, UH, WE ALSO HAVE THE LONGEST DAY, WHICH IS, UM, IT'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FOLKS TO DO KIND OF A DIY, UM, ACTIVITY OR FUNDRAISER.

UM, THAT IS ALL ABOUT THE SUMMER SOLSTICE AND THE LONGEST DAY.

UM, BECAUSE CAREGIVERS, WE KNOW THAT THEIR DAY, UM, THEIR DAY REALLY JUST NEVER ENDS.

AND OUR VISION IS A LITTLE WITHOUT ALZHEIMER'S AND ALL OTHER DEMENTIA.

SO NOT JUST ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE, BUT IF YOU HAVE SOMEONE WHO'S IMPACTED BY LEWY BODY DEMENTIA, PARKINSON'S, DEMENTIA, FRONT AND TEMPORAL

[01:20:01]

DEMENTIA, ALL OF THOSE, UM, DEMENTIAS, WE ARE THERE TO SUPPORT THEM AS WELL.

SO, AND I THINK THAT THAT WAS IT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU.

HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME? I WANNA MAKE SURE, COURSE, YOU'VE GOT MY CARD.

I'LL LEAVE THESE BUCK SLIPS ON THE BACK TABLE, PICK UP AS MUCH AS YOU'D LIKE.

UM, ANYTHING THAT WE POSSIBLY DO TO SUPPORT YOU ALL, IF YOU, YOU KNOW, IN TERMS OF, UM, UM, IF YOU THINK, WELL, IN MY DISTRICT, I'D LIKE FOR US TO HAVE A CAREGIVER CONFERENCE AND, UH, THEN GIMME A CALL.

ARE YOU GONNA JUST CONTACT US WITH OUR DISTRICT INFORMATION? WE DON'T NEED TO CONTACT YOU.

RIGHT.

WHAT I CAN DO IS I'LL, I'LL SEND THAT OVER TO MACKAY AND THEN HE'LL MAKE SURE AND DISTRIBUTE.

SO I'LL TAKE OUR DIFFERENT SUPPORT GROUPS AND BREAK THOSE DOWN, UM, BY WHERE, WHICH DISTRICT IN WHICH THEY'RE LOCATED.

AND WE CAN SEE IF THERE'S SOME BOWLS.

SO KATHY, YOU MENTIONED, UM, CLINICAL TRIALS.

YES, MA'AM.

IS THAT ON THE DALLAS WEBSITE SOMEPLACE THAT YOU COULD FIND THAT OUT.

RIGHT.

ACTUALLY, THE VERY BEST PLACE FOR YOU TO GO, YOU CAN DO, YOU CAN GO AND LOOK UP AND WE'LL TALK ABOUT CLINICAL TRIALS ON OUR WEBSITE, BUT ALSO THERE'S A SITE CALLED TRIAL MATCH AND IT'S A FREE, UH, CLINICAL TRIAL MATCHING SERVICE THAT WE PARTNER WITH THEM.

AND ALL OF THE TRIALS THAT ARE ON THAT SITE HAVE BEEN VETTED AND APPROVED.

AND IT'S A WAY THAT INDIVIDUALS, THEY CAN SET UP A PROFILE FOR THEMSELVES.

MAYBE YOU HAVE ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IN YOUR FAMILY, MAYBE YOU HAVE NO ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE IN YOUR FAMILY.

MAYBE YOU'RE BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE YOU HAVE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT YOURSELF.

UM, MAYBE YOU'RE A YOUNG 25 YEAR OLD WHO JUST WANTS TO DO THEIR PART IN HELPING RESEARCH ABOUT LIFESTYLE, YOU KNOW, INTERVENTIONS.

UM, YOU CAN CREATE YOUR PROFILE AND THEN YOU'LL GET ALERTS WHEN THERE'S A CLINICAL TRIAL THAT MIGHT BE OF INTEREST TO YOU IN YOUR AREA.

SO THAT'S A GREAT PLACE TO GO.

THANK YOU.

WALK.

GIVE US SOME INFORMATION WHEN YOU HAVE YOUR WALK HERE.

DID I MISS YOU THE DATE? THE, THE WALK IN DALLAS IS THE FIRST SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER.

I MEAN, NOT IN SEPTEMBER.

UH, FIRST SATURDAY OF NOVEMBER.

NOVEMBER, WHICH WOULD BE SEPTEMBER.

THAT IS GONNA BE NOVEMBER 4TH.

KATHY, THIS IS DEBBIE.

HI.

HI DEBBIE.

I WANTED TO ADD, AT THE EVENT AT METHODIST HOSPITAL, I WAS SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT, UH, POTTER'S HOUSE HAD THE, UM, FOUR HOURS A DAY SUPPORT FOR CAREGIVERS.

CUZ YOU KNOW, THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT BECAUSE CAREGIVERS ARE ONE OF THE MOST ISOLATED GROUPS, PERIOD.

AND THAT FOR FOUR HOURS A DAY, A CAREGIVER COULD DROP OFF THEIR, UH, DEMENTIA ALZHEIMER'S PERSON AND DO GO TO THE BEAUTY SHOP, UM, TAKE A BREATH, WALK AROUND, DO WHATEVER THEY WANTED TO DO.

AND, UM, I THOUGHT THAT WAS REALLY NICE.

CAUSE I'D NEVER HEARD OF THEM OVER ANY CHURCH AROUND HER HAVING THAT KIND OF SERVICE FOR ANYONE.

AND SO I WANTED TO SHARE THAT.

UM, ALSO, UH, PASTOR RICKY RUSH SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THEM HAVING SOMETHING LIKE THAT, BUT HE DIDN'T GO INTO DETAILS.

BUT I KNOW THAT POTTER'S HOUSE DOES.

UH, I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO MARY LYNN OVER AT, UM, FRIEND'S PLACE IN DESOTO.

AND I KNOW THAT THERE'S ALSO A FRIEND'S PLACE IN NORTH DALLAS AND FRIEND'S PLACE IS ADULT DAYCARE FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH ALZHEIMER'S OR OTHER DEMENTIAS.

SO, UM, JUST WANTED TO SHARE THAT INFORMATION TOO.

GREAT.

THANK YOU DEBBIE.

MM-HMM.

, I WANT, WANTED TO SAY, UM, THANK YOU TO KATHY AND HER STAFF FORM THE FANTASTIC JOB THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING TOGETHER WITH.

AND JUST THANK YOU FOR THE HIGH QUALITY AND WORK THE FOLLOW UP.

YOU KNOW, THE CONNECTIONS, MAKING SURE THAT, UH, EVERYTHING THAT THEY DO IS FIRST CLASS AND WITH A CARING, UH, SERVANT HEART, NOT JUST BECAUSE IT'S THEIR JOB.

AND WE'VE BEEN REALLY HA WE'VE REALLY HAD SOME GOOD, SOME SUCCESS WITH, WITH THE PROGRAM.

WANT TO THANK YOU FOR YES.

ALL YOUR WORK.

WELL, AND WE APPRECIATE THE CHANCE TO GET CONNECTED.

I KNOW YOU ALL HAVE YOUR BIG HEALTH FAIR EVENT COMING UP ON APRIL 29TH.

RIGHT, RIGHT.

AND SO I NEED TO, UM, MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE REGISTERED FOR THAT CUZ WE'D LIKE TO BE PART OF THAT.

SO I THINK THAT, I THINK YOU'LL FIND THAT A PRIORITY FOR US IS WHEN WE, WE DO FIND THESE GREAT, TRUSTED ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY, UM, THAT WELCOME US IN, THEN IT'S A PRIORITY THAT WE WANT THEM TO KNOW THAT WE'RE THERE ALSO TO SUPPORT THEIR EFFORTS.

WE'RE NOT JUST THERE TO FIND OUT WHAT THEY CAN DO TO, TO HELP US.

UM, BUT IT'S, YOU KNOW, HOW CAN WE TRULY BE IN PARTNERSHIP AND WITH YOU AND SUPPORT WHAT YOU'RE DOING?

[01:25:01]

SO THAT'S, THAT'S A PRIORITY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMING.

THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INVITATION.

I REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

AND I'LL LEAVE THESE ON THE BACK TABLE.

GREAT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU.

GREAT PRESENTATION, KATHY.

THANK YOU, DEBBIE.

OKAY, LAST ITEM, THE ON THE AGENDA, BUT NOT LAST BUT LEAST OR ANYTHING.

BEST.

UH, I'D LIKE TO, UH, WELCOME ZACH AND KELLY SHOW.

ZACH.

I'M TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW SAY THAT YOU CAN GIVE OUR SEEMING PERTINENT, BUT THANK YOU.

JUST AS A BRIEF THING, I I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS ORGANIZATION AND, UH, HAD THE OPPORTUNITY, UH, A FEW WEEKS AGO TO ACTUALLY GO OVER AND, AND SEE THE PLACE AND MEET YOU GUYS.

AND, UH, I THINK THAT, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE HAVE MENTIONED EARLIER THAT WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF SENIOR CENTERS IN THE CITY AND, UH, I THINK THAT THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF SOMEBODY WHO IS NOT PART OF THE CITY IS, AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT IS PERFORMING THAT SERVICE.

UH, AND, AND I THINK IT'S SOMETHING EVERYBODY SHOULD BE AWARE ABOUT.

OH, WHY REALLY APPRECIATE.

NO CONFIDENCE.

, THANK YOU SO MUCH.

YOU MIGHT BE ANOTHER WHO CAN MAKE OUR PRESENTATION.

UM, HEY EVERYONE, MY NAME IS AT DESMOINES.

I'M THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OVER AT OWEN WOOD FARM AND NEIGHBOR SPACE IN BAR EAST STA IN THE MIDDLE OF 75 2 28.

THIS IS KELLY DRAKE AS THE, YOU KNOW, HE'S THE CHAIRMAN OF OUR BOARD.

UM, I'M GONNA PASS IT OVER TO HIM IN A FEW MINUTES TO TALK MORE ABOUT OUR SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

HE REALLY IS KIND OF THE SPARK PLUG CHEERLEADER, UH, JEFF TERM YOU PREFER OF, UH, WHAT WE'RE DOING TO IMPACT THE SENIOR COMMUNITY, ESPECIALLY IN FAR EAST DALLAS, BUT ACROSS DALLAS, WRI LARGE.

UM, I WANNA GIVE YOU A BROAD OVERVIEW OF OWEN WOOD JUST TO ACCLIMATE YOU TO THE WORK THAT WE'RE ENGAGING IN.

UH, NEXT SLIDE.

MCCALL MICHALE.

EXCUSE ME.

I FORGOT WE SENT IT OVER AS A PDF, SO, UH, THERE WE GO.

WE'RE GOOD.

YEAH.

SO THIS BUILDING WAS ORIGINALLY, UH, THERE'S A DRONE SHOT AT OUR PROPERTY.

IT'S ON JOHN WEST ROAD, JUST NORTH OF I 30 ON THE FERGUSON ROAD CORRIDOR.

WE ARE SMACK IN THE MIDDLE OF 7 5 2 2 8.

SO WE ARE PREDOMINANTLY SERVING FOLKS IN DISTRICT TWO, DISTRICT SEVEN AND DISTRICT NINE.

SO IF YOU REPRESENT THOSE DISTRICTS, I'D LOVE TO HAVE A CONVERSATION AND BUY YOU COFFEE.

, WE WERE, UH, THIS BUILDING WAS ORIGINALLY OWEN WOOD UNITED METHODIST CHURCH AS RECENTLY AS 1976.

UH, HISTORIC OWEN WOOD UMC IS ACTUALLY CELEBRATING ITS 100TH BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR.

THEY WERE FOUNDED IN FEBRUARY OF 1923.

MM-HMM.

, OF COURSE, IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH DALLAS GEOGRAPHY, YOU KNOW THAT THE OWEN WOOD NAME NOW IS, UH, REPRESENTATIVE OF NEIGHBORHOOD SOUTH OF THE HIGHWAY IN SOUTH DALLAS, WHICH AS A RESULT OF A LOT OF FACTORS THAT I DON'T REALLY NEED TO GET ON A SOAPBOX ABOUT OF, UH, THIS CONGREGATION CLOSES ITS STORES IN 2014, UH, WAS ONE OF SEVEN DIFFERENT CHURCHES AND A HALF MILE SQUARE OR HALF SQUARE MILE RADIUS OF OUR PROPERTY THAT CLOSED THEIR DOORS BETWEEN 2013 AND 2016.

WE ARE THE ONLY ONES THAT ARE STILL, YOU KNOW, OFFERING ANY SORT OF PROGRAMS, SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY IN THAT LITTLE CORRIDOR.

UH, THIS PROPERTY WAS ACQUIRED BY WHITE ROCK UMMC, OF WHICH MIKE IS A MEMBER AS WELL AS KELLY AND MYSELF.

UH, IN 2016, IT WAS ORIGINALLY DESIGNED TO BE THE SECOND MISSION ON CAMPUS OF A CHURCH.

UH, AND I'M ALLOWED TO SAY THIS BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN CLOSE TO BEING WHERE NAME IS A PASTOR.

I'M A CHURCH PERSON, BORN AND RAISED IN THE U C.

THAT AREA DOES NOT NEED ANY MORE CHURCHES.

IT IS UBER SAY, DON'T NEED MORE GOSPEL.

I'M NOT GONNA GO THERE.

BUT MORE CHURCHES .

SO I WAS GRATEFUL TO LEARN.

I MOVED TO DALLAS IN 2020.

SO I CAME ON LATE TO THIS PROJECT.

UH, THE PROJECT WAS TWOFOLD.

IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SECOND MISSIONAL CAMPUS OF MISSIONAL CAMPUS OF THE CHURCH, UH, PROVIDING DIFFERENT FORMS AND ENTRY POINTS TO WORSHIP AND TO CHURCH, UH, FOR FOLKS IN THESE NEIGHBORHOODS, BUT ALSO ADOPT SOMETHING CALLED A PARTNER AND RESIDENCE MODEL.

UH, BRINGING ON ORGANIZATIONS WHO ARE ALREADY ON THE GROUND AND DOING GREAT WORK IN FAR EAST DALLAS, OFFERING THEM SPACE AT A LOW RATE COST, UM, AND COLLABORATING WITH THEM TO BE ABLE TO, TO PROVIDE MORE IMPACTFUL PROGRAMS AND SERVICES.

UH, THE CHURCH PART DIDN'T REALLY WORK IF I DIDN'T SHOW MY HAND ENOUGH WITH THAT .

UH, BUT IN 2022, WE STARTED TRANSITIONING INTO A FULL-ON NONPROFIT COMMUNITY CENTER AND BUILDING OUT THAT PARTNER AT RESIDENCE MODEL.

UH, WE'VE ALSO TRANSITIONED TO MOVING UNDER, MOSTLY UNDER THE FISCAL UMBRELLA OF THE DALLAS FOUNDATION AS WELL, WHO'S ONE OF OUR GREAT FUNDERS.

UH, THE MISSION OF OWEN WOOD IS PRETTY SIMPLE.

IT'S TO CREATE EQUITABLE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR NEIGHBORS, UH, TO BE KNOWN, TO BE EMPOWERED, TO BE INSPIRED, AND FRANKLY TO JUST RELATE WITH EACH OTHER AND KNOW EACH OTHER.

UH, WE DO THIS THROUGH A THREEFOLD MODEL.

UH, WE OFFER

[01:30:01]

INTERNAL PROGRAMMING, SOME OF WHICH KELLY WILL GET INTO WITH OUR SENIOR PROGRAMMING THAT'S MOSTLY IN-HOUSE.

UH, WE CURRENTLY HAVE SIX PARTNERS IN RESIDENCE, WHICH I'LL SHOW YOU ON THE NEXT SLIDE.

UM, AND WE HAVE REALLY, I NEED A, I NEED A WHOLE SEPARATE POWERPOINT PRESENTATION TO GO THROUGH OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, PROBABLY 40 TO 50 OVER A SIX MONTH PERIOD, BUT I HAVE A COUPLE ON A SLIDE AS WELL.

THEN BEING DATA DRIVEN, UH, BEING RESPONSIVE AND BEING REACTIVE RATHER THAN TRYING TO PRESCRIBE AND BE PROACTIVE, UH, IN ASSESSING THE NEEDS OF THE FOLKS IN THE 7 52 A AND BEYOND.

WE WANNA HEAR FROM THE COMMUNITY WHAT THEY WANT, WHAT THEY NEED.

THAT GOES THROUGH THE SENIOR COMMUNITY AS WELL, RATHER THAN ME SITTING BEHIND MY DESK AS A 30 YEAR OLD FROM SOUTH CAROLINA TRYING TO TELL DALLASITE WHAT I THINK THAT THEY NEEDED.

A NEW, UH, NEXT SLIDE.

SORRY, I MISSED THAT LAST TIME.

I'M SORRY.

.

UH, ONE MORE DOWN.

THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH.

YEAH.

PROBLEMS WITH THE PDF.

UM, INSTEAD OF A POWERPOINT OH, GO BACK UP.

SORRY.

.

OTHER WAY.

YEAH, OTHER WAY.

.

YEAH.

ONE MORE.

JUST A LITTLE MORE LITTLE.

THAT'S GREAT.

THANK YOU.

YEAH.

SO OUR INTERNAL PROGRAMMING, WE TRY TO FOCUS ON THREE SPECIFIC THINGS.

UH, SENIOR PROGRAMMING, YOUTH PREP, WE MISSED IT.

AGAIN, I TRUST, TRUST THEY DON'T MARKET ITSELF OUT.

UM, HAVE THREE SPECIFIC THINGS INTERNALLY.

UH, AND I I SAY ONLY THREE SPECIFIC THINGS.

WE DO A LOT MORE THAN THAT AS A COMMUNITY CENTER.

WE'RE SMALL FINANCIALLY.

WE'RE SMALL STAFF.

THAT'S BY DESIGN.

UH, WE WANNA EQUIP AND BE GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR SPACE.

WE WANNA EQUIP FOLKS TO COME IN AND BE THE EXPERTS AND DO WORK THEMSELVES, UH, FOR THEIR NEIGHBORS.

UH, WE DO SENIOR PROGRAMMING, WE DO YOUTH PROGRAMMING, AND WE DO DIRECT AID.

UH, OUR SENIOR PROGRAMMING, THAT'S CHAIR YOGA, THAT'S GARDENING CLASSES, THAT IS, UH, PLANTING FLOWERS TOGETHER.

THAT'S ART AND PAINTINGS.

THAT'S, UH, BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING, UH, NUTRITION AND HEART HEALTH SEMINARS.

FINANCIAL LITERACY LUNCHEON LEARNS A VARIETY OF THINGS WITH A LOT MORE TO COME.

UH, OUR YOUTH PROGRAMS, ASIDE FROM HOLDING, UH, TWO DIFFERENT AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, EXTERNAL, UH, OUR SUMMER CAMPS BOOK DRIVES THAT, SCHOOL SUPPLY DRIVES, HOLIDAY PARTIES, AND JUST GENERAL YOUTH COMMUNITY EVENTS.

UH, AND THEN PROBABLY THE THING THAT OWEN WOOD IS MOST KNOWN FOR, AT LEAST IN EAST DALLAS, IS OUR FOOD AND DIAPER DISTRIBUTIONS.

PRIMARILY KNOWN BECAUSE WE BACK UP TRAFFIC ALL THE WAY TO BUCKNER AND INFURIATE.

A LOT OF PEOPLE .

LAST YEAR IN 2022, WE GAVE AWAY OVER 150,000 POUNDS OF FOOD IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE NORTH FOOD BANK.

UH, AS WELL AS OVER 150,000 DIAPERS, UH, WHICH COME FROM A VARIETY OF SOURCES.

THAT WAS GREAT.

THAT'S AWESOME.

I ANTICIPATE THOSE NUMBERS GETTING CLOSER TO 200,020 23.

UH, I'LL ALSO MENTION ABOUT 9% OF THOSE DIAPERS AND RELATED PRODUCTS WERE ADULT DIAPERS AND PRODUCTS GOING TO SENIORS IN 75 20 28.

UH, WE ALSO, UH, UH, POSTED TRANS EMPOWERMENT COALITION REACHING OUT TO, UH, THE TRANS COMMUNITY AND DOING ADVOCACY AND RELATIONSHIP BUILDING EFFORTS WITH THEM.

UH, AND WE'RE A GREAT COMMUNITY SPACE, UH, FOR EVENT RENTALS.

I'VE HEARD A LOT ABOUT DIFFERENT EVENTS THAT ARE IN THE PIPELINE, THIS SUBMISSION.

UH, I'D LOVE TO HOST SOME OF YOUR EVENTS, ESPECIALLY IF YOU'RE TRYING TO REACH FOLSON.

UH, OUR SKIP, UH, WE HAVE SIX DIFFERENT PARTNERS IN RESIDENCE RIGHT NOW.

WE GAVE THIS PRESENTATION IN THREE MONTHS.

I THINK THIS WOULD PROBABLY HAVE NINE LOGOS ON IT, IS JUST KIND OF THE NATURE OF HOW THINGS ARE CHANGING.

UH, ASPIRE, WHO DOES ADULT EDUCATION, WE HOST DALLAS METRO CARE SERVICES ADULT I D D PROGRAM, WHICH IS A DAY REHABILITATION PROGRAM FOR ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES.

UH, WE HOST AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMMING FOR PROJECT TRANSFORMATION NORTH TEXAS, WHICH IS A FAITH-BASED AND LITERACY BASED PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.

UH, GRAHAM NORTH TEXAS, WHO RUNS OUR SEVEN ACRES OF FARMLAND BECAUSE I CERTAINLY DON'T DO THAT.

UH, WHITE ROCK YOGA, WHICH IS A PRETTY DIVERSE, UH, REGULAR, REGULAR YOGA STUDIO.

AND THEN WHITE ROCK COMMUNITY CHURCH, UH, WHO IS A CONGREGATION, SMALL LGBTQ PLUS CONGREGATION.

THE WORSHIPS IN OWEN GLEN HAS FOR QUITE A WHILE, BUT IS PREDOMINANTLY KNOWN FOR THEIR, UH, OUTREACH AND THEIR PANTRY AND COOKING MEALS FOR THE HIV POPULATION IN EAST DALLAS.

AND OUR COMMUNITY PARTNERS, THAT'S EIGHT OF THEM.

LIKE I SAID, I PROBABLY HAVE 40 TO 50.

UH, ONE I'LL IMMEDIATELY HIGHLIGHT IS THE DALLAS SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.

THEY'RE FRESH ON MY MIND CAUSE I TALK TO 'EM A LOT THIS MORNING.

UH, WE ARE GONNA BE THEIR FIRST SITE IN EAST DALLAS FOR THEIR YOUNG MUSICIANS PROGRAM, WHICH IS GREAT IN A REALLY, REALLY DIVERSE AREA.

AND PLAYING AN INSTRUMENT, AS YOU ALL KNOW, IS A LOTTERY TICKET INTO SOME OF THE BETTER MIDDLE SCHOOL CHARTER SCHOOLS, HIGH SCHOOLS, COLLEGES.

SO WE'RE EXCITED TO BE ABLE TO BRING THAT TO THE COMMUNITY.

THEY START AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMMING AT OWEN WOOD SITE, UH, UH, NEXT TUESDAY ACTUALLY.

SO, GREAT STUFF.

UM, YEAH, THAT'S A BIT ABOUT OUR MODEL.

THAT'S REALLY BROAD.

I KNOW.

I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER QUESTIONS OR AS I SAID, BUY YOU COFFEE AND TELL YOU MORE ABOUT IT.

SENIOR PROGRAMMING IS WHAT WE'RE HERE TO TALK ABOUT THOUGH.

UM, AND I THINK MY NAME IS KELLY'S CUE.

OKAY.

[01:35:01]

YOU'LL GO AHEAD AND GO TO THE NEXT.

THERE WE GO.

OKAY.

IT'S GONNA BE REAL HARD FOR ME TO SIT AND TALK TO Y'ALL.

CAUSE YOU USUALLY, WHEN I SPEAK, I GET UP AND I, I'M MOVING.

I'M, I'M AN ACTIVE KIND OF GUY.

UH, AND I'M VERY EXCITABLE ESPECIALLY ABOUT SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

UH, FIRST OF ALL, LET ME GIVE YOU GREETINGS FROM THE MARTIN LUTHER KING ADVISORY BOARD.

I SIT ON THAT.

SO OUR MEETING IS TONIGHT.

UH, SO I GET YOU.

I APPRECIATE YOU.

I THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO FOR YOUR DISTRICTS.

UM, AS ZACH MENTIONED EARLIER, I'M THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD, BUT THE WAY I GOT STARTED WITH OWEN WOOD WAS AS A PARTICIPANT.

UH, I ACTUALLY PARTICIPATED, UH, IN EVERYTHING SENIOR.

AND IT STARTED WITH WHAT YOU SEE RIGHT HERE.

UM, YOU SEE THAT FAR CORNER PICTURE ONTO THE, WHAT UPPER LEFT.

YOU SEE A BIG EMPTY ROOM THAT IS AN OLD SANCTUARY OF THE CHURCH.

UM, THAT'S WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT NINE 30 EVERY MONDAY MORNING BEFORE THE CHAIR ELVES GET OUT AND START PUTTING THE CHAIRS OUT, INCLUDING MYSELF.

AND THE PICTURES YOU SEE BELOW, THERE ARE WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE AT 10:00 AM EVERY MONDAY MORNING, .

AND WE NOW HAVE WHAT STARTED AT SIX PEOPLE.

AND BY THE WAY, I WANT TO GIVE KUDOS TO THE CITY OF DALLAS.

IT STARTED OFF AS A MONTH LONG GRANT, I THINK, TO ART DISTILLERY, UH, BACK IN 2021.

BUT IT WAS ONLY GOOD FOR A MONTH.

BUT WE WERE ALREADY STARTING TO SEE THE POTENTIAL.

SO OWEN WOULD'VE DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND CARRY IT FORWARD AS AN INTERNAL PROGRAM.

SO WHAT STARTED WAS SIX PEOPLE IS NOW 40 PLUS PEOPLE SHOWING UP EVERY MONDAY.

HMM.

AND, UM, MAINLY FROM THE 75, 20, 28 AREA.

BUT, UH, TYPICALLY WITHIN TWO TO FIVE MILES.

UH, I DO HAVE SOMEBODY THAT COMES UP AS FAR FROM AS NORTH DALLAS TO PARTICIPATE.

SO, UM, IF YOU CREATE A SPACE WHERE PEOPLE, AND THEY'RE WELCOME, THEY WILL COME.

UM, SO WHY DO PEOPLE, FIRST OF ALL, YOU NEED TO KNOW THE AVERAGE AGE OF THOSE PEOPLE SITTING IN THOSE CHURCHES.

76.

WE DO HAVE A LADY WHO DRIVES EVERY SINGLE MONDAY.

THAT'S 95.

SHE'S AN INSPIRATION TO ME.

.

OKAY.

WHY PEOPLE WHY DO PEOPLE CHOOSE CHAIR YOGA? WELL, SOME ARE LIKE ME, I HAVE A NEUROLOGICAL DISORDER.

I HAVE A TENDENCY TO FALL.

I HAVE BALANCES SHEETS.

I NEED THE EIGHT OF A CHAIR TO DO YOGA.

YOU'LL NEVER CATCH ME PUTTING MY LEG AROUND MY NECK.

.

OKAY? BUT I CAN DO SOME STANDING EXERCISES AS LONG AS I'M HOLDING ONTO A CHAIR.

MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THESE, UH, CHAIRS RIGHT NOW, UH, A LOT OF THEM HAVE SITUATIONS LIKE MINE OR MAYBE THEY'VE HAD, UH, HIP REPLACEMENT, KNEE REPLACEMENT.

UM, BUT THERE'S SOME, THERE'S A REASON THAT THEY'RE THERE.

THE, UH, OUR INTERNAL SURVEYS, WHEN WE ASK PEOPLE, WHY ARE YOU COMING TO THIS? IT, THEY WILL ALWAYS SAY, I WANT TO KEEP MOVING.

UH, I WANT TO HAVE BETTER BALANCE.

BOTTOM LINE, PEOPLE WANT TO FEEL PRODUCTIVE.

THEY WANT TO FEEL VITAL.

OKAY? AND THAT'S THE, THAT'S THE MISSION IN OUR SENIOR PROGRAMMING IS TO, AGAIN, KEEP PEOPLE MOVING AND ALSO FULFILLED IN THEIR LIFE.

AND, UH, AND A LOT OF THAT BEGINS AT CHAIR YOGA.

MY BIGGEST ISSUE IS COME 10 45 IS GETTING ALL THESE PEOPLE LEAVE THE ROAD BECAUSE AFTER THEY DO THEIR EXERCISING, THEN THEY ALL GONNA TALK.

SURE.

.

I'M LIKE, IT'S, IT'S LIKE A BAR.

YOU AIN'T GOTTA GO HOME.

STAY HERE.

OKAY.

ALRIGHT.

NEXT SLIDE.

COMPANION.

NEXT SLIDE.

OKAY.

THERE, THERE WE GO.

ALL RIGHT.

NOW THIS IS WONDERFUL.

THIS IS A BRAND NEW PROGRAM.

UH, IS WE'VE, THERE'S ALWAYS BEEN GARDENING, BUT WHAT YOU'RE SEEING NOW IS THE RESULTS OF SOMETHING THAT STARTED LAST MONTH.

YOU SEE IN THE BOTTOM PICTURE, YOU SEE THOSE BIG RAISED BEDS.

MM-HMM.

.

MM-HMM.

, SEVERAL OF THEM HAVE BEEN ORDERED.

WE HAVE A COMMUNITY GARDEN.

ABOUT FOUR ACRES OF IT IS BEING PRODUCTIVE.

OKAY.

THERE'S GREENHOUSES OUT THERE.

IT'S RUN BY A NONPROFIT.

SO WE STARTED SOME CLASSES.

I SAY WE, I TAKE OWNERSHIP OF EVERYTHING.

OKAY, Y'ALL.

SO IF I TAKE OWNERSHIP, IT'S A WE THING.

BUT THERE WERE CLASSES STARTED AND WE HAVE, WE STARTED WITH HOW DO YOU PLANT CITY? WHAT ARE THE NATIVE PLANTS AND GRASSES THAT GROW AROUND HERE? HOW DO YOU GET YOUR SOIL READY? UM, THE RAISED BEDS ARE WONDERFUL BECAUSE AS I HAVE FOUND, GETTING ON

[01:40:01]

THE GROUND IS NOT A HARD THING TO DO.

IT'S THE GETTING UP PART.

GOOD START.

.

SO THE RAISED BEDS ALLOW YOU TO JUST LEAN OVER AND DO YOUR THING.

I'M HAPPY TO SAY, UH OH.

WELL, THESE ARE BEDS WERE ADOPTABLE BY THE WAY.

I ADOPTED ONE FOR THE WHOLE YEAR.

AND I'M HAPPY TO SAY I NOW HAVE GREEN BEANS AND PURPLE HOLE PEAS GROWING .

UM, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE'S A, THERE'S A CLASS.

CLASS MEMBERS ARE ALL THERE.

I WE HAVE TWO LADIES WHO ARE DRIVING FROM OAK CLIFF TO US.

CAUSE THEY LOVE, THEY'RE LEARNING THOSE.

ONE LADY SAID, I'VE GOT THIS BIG BACKYARD AND I WANT TO GARDEN.

SHE GOES, I WANT TO DO IT.

YOU KNOW, I WANT TO DO SOMETHING.

SO ANYWAY, THAT'S THE GARDENING.

UM, NEXT SLIDE THERE.

IT'S OKAY.

OKAY.

NOW YOU CAN SEE IT.

NOW.

UH, LAST YEAR AROUND FALL IN COLLABORATION WITH THE, UH, CREATIVE ART CENTER, CREATIVE ART CENTER OF DALLAS, WE, UH, OFFERED A SENIOR PROGRAMMING FOR ARTS.

AND BY THE WAY, EVERYTHING YOU SEE HERE IS FREE TO A PARTICIPANT.

THEY DON'T HAVE TO PAY FOR ANYTHING.

ANYWAY, SO THE, WE DID AGING WITH ARTS, AND DURING THAT TIME THERE WERE 17 PEOPLE WHO, UH, THAT'S ALL WE COULD ALLOW AT THE TIME.

THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE WILLING TO WORK WITH.

UM, YOU, THEY DID MEMORY MOSAICS, WHICH IS USING COLLAGES, WHICH WAS WONDERFUL BECAUSE IT BROUGHT UP MEMORY.

SOME PEOPLE ACTUALLY HAD SOME THERAPY SESSIONS GOING ON AS, AS THEY WERE CREATING THOSE COLLAGES.

AND THEN THERE WAS PRINTMAKING AND THEN THERE WAS POTTERY.

AND THEN THEY ALSO DID THESE CREATING MANOUS, THOSE PRAYER WHEEL, PLEASE.

YEAH, SURE.

YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT.

ANYWAY, STIM.

NOW THIS IS THE BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT ALL OF THIS.

IT'S STIMULATING DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BRAIN WHEN YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT DEMENTIA AND ALZHEIMER'S.

UH, ONE OF THE WAYS THAT RESEARCH SAYS THAT YOU CAN STATE THAT OFF IS YOU MUST ENGAGE DIFFERENT PARTS OF THE BRAIN.

SO IF YOU'RE WORKING ON THE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, YOU'RE WORKING ON ARTS AND ALL OF THAT STUFF, THAT IT'S, IT'S WONDERFUL.

IT'S GOOD THERAPY.

OKAY.

NEXT SLIDE.

OH, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT.

DON'T, DON'T GO NOWHERE.

.

OKAY, SO THE, SO WE STARTED WITH THE CREATIVE ART CENTER OF DALLAS N BUT WE DETERMINED THAT WE WANTED TO BE ABLE TO TOUCH MORE PEOPLE, HELP MORE PEOPLE.

SO WE'VE BROUGHT IN AN INTERNAL PAINTING PROGRAM.

MM.

Y'ALL YOU TALK ABOUT FUN , YOU HAVE A ROOM.

WE, WE HAD 22 PEOPLE FULL CLASS.

FIRST ROW, WE JUST STARTED FOUR WEEKS AGO AND WE'VE DONE ONE PAINTING.

WE'RE IF I, I DON'T KNOW I'LL EVER GET DONE WITH MY SECOND ONE.

.

AND WE'RE GONNA DO THREE, AND THEN WE'RE GONNA DECIDE WHAT OTHER TYPE OF MEETINGS.

BUT WE'RE WORKING WITH RELIC PAINT FIRST, THEN WATERCOLORS.

THEN I'VE BEEN TOLD WATERCOLORS MOST DIFFICULT.

AND THEN WELL, AND, UM, AGAIN, IT'S WHAT? AND IT IS A, IT IS, WE HAVE AN EMPTY ROOM THAT USED TO BE A CHAPEL THAT COME, UH, NINE 30 TURNS INTO AN ART ROOM.

BY AN HOUR LATER, GONE BACK TO JUST BEING IN A VACANT ROOM.

OKAY.

BUT IT'S A GREAT USE OF SPACE.

OKAY.

SO, UH, THAT'S THE PAINTING CLASSES THAT YOU SEE THERE.

OKAY.

NEXT SLIDE.

NOW THESE TWO PROGRAMS HERE THAT YOU SEE ARE AVAILABLE TO ALL AGES AND ALL PEOPLE.

BUT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT FROM THE SENIOR PERSPECTIVE.

THIS IS THE DIAPER STORE.

THAT'S JANICE.

SHE'S IN CHARGE OF OUR DIAPER PROGRAM AND SHE'S ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL.

UH, JUST A GODSEND AS FAR AS A STAFF PERSON THERE.

OKAY.

THE SECOND PICTURE OF DIAPERS, IF YOU LOOK IN THAT CORNER THERE, THAT'S ALL ADULT DIAPERS.

MM-HMM.

.

MM-HMM.

.

NOW CHILDREN DIAPERS ARE EXPENSIVE, SO ARE ADULT DIAPERS.

SURE.

NOW, AND WE HAVE PULL-UPS AND WE HAVE ADULT DIAPERS.

UM, THERE WAS QUITE A PERIOD OF TIME IN MY ILLNESS THAT MEN, I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WOULD'VE DONE WITHOUT 'EM.

THEY SHOULDN'T CALL 'EM, DEPENDS.

THEY SHOULD CALL 'EM INDEPENDENCE.

, BECAUSE YOU CAN'T LEAVE YOUR HOME IF YOU CAN'T IF YOU'RE TIED TO A BATHROOM.

RIGHT.

.

UM, SO THAT'S A BLESSING IN ITSELF.

AND THEN THERE'S ALSO, OH, AND THAT'S THE LAST SATURDAY OF EVERY SINGLE MONTH.

ALL THEY GOT IN.

YOU SHOW UP THIS SATURDAY.

OH, IT'S THIS SATURDAY.

MM-HMM.

, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE IN YOUR DISTRICT, YOU KNOW, I COLLABORATE ALL THE TIME WITH THE MLK, UH, SERVICES ARE SERVICES.

PEOPLE NEED IT.

IF, IF, IF THEY COULD GET THERE OR GET A RIDE, SEND THEM ON.

UM,

[01:45:02]

BUT, UH, SO WE DO THAT AND THEN THAT'S THE FOOD GIVEAWAY.

IT'S HUGE.

NOW, BY THE WAY, IF THEY'RE GONNA COME AND GET IN THE DOCK LINE, YOU GOTTA GET THERE EARLY.

LIKE HE SAID, WE, WE HAVE A LINE ALL THE WAY TO BUCKER.

UH, NOW THE FOOD GETAWAY, UM, IF YOU'RE ON A FIXED INCOME, FOOD IS CRAZY RIGHT NOW.

YOU KIDDING? ESPECIALLY IF YOU'VE PRICED FRUIT AND VEGGIES, WHICH IS MAINLY WHAT WE'RE GIVING AWAY.

UM, SO AGAIN, IF THEY JUST WANT FOOD, THEY CAN JUST SHOW UP AND BYPASS THE DIAPERS AND THEY CAN COME AND PARTICIPATE IN THE FOOD LINE.

I'LL HAVE, THERE'S NO REGISTRATION FOR ANY OF THIS.

WE'RE NOT CHECKING PAPERS, IDS, ZIP CODE, ELIGIBILITY AND CHEMICAL, ANYTHING LIKE THAT.

WE GET SOME NOMINAL INFORMATION IN THE STORE TO BE ABLE TO, WE HAVE TO HAVE THE NAMES.

HOW MANY'S IN THE HOUSEHOLD.

SOMETIMES THAT'S, THAT'S, BUT THAT'S USUALLY FOR THE FOOD BANK.

PLUS THE PEOPLE WHO GIVE US MONEY, THEY WANT US TO TRACK DEMOGRAPHICS SOMETIMES, BUT IT'S NOT A THING FOR PEOPLE.

WE'RE NEVER GONNA TURN SOMEBODY AWAY.

I THINK THAT'S PRETTY MUCH TWO MORE SIDES.

WELL, IN YOUR, CAN I ASK YOU IN YOUR FOOD DRIVE, IF YOU'RE COLLECTING THAT DEMOGRAPHIC, ARE MOST OF THE PEOPLE FROM 2 28 OR YEAH, 66% LAST YEAR.

WELL, OUR 2 28, YEAH.

WE'RE IN 2 28.

RIGHT.

BUT ABOUT 66%, UH, IN 2022, UM, THE FOOD DIAPER 5 2 28, ANOTHER 23%, IF I'M REMEMBERING CORRECTLY, MIGHT BE GIVE OR TWO.

ONE OR TWO, UH, WAS 2 27.

OKAY.

UM, SO IT'S EAST.

UM, THAT SAID, WE USUALLY, I THINK THE LAST TIME I WENT THROUGH AND COUNTED THE NUMBER OF ZIP CODES, UH, AT A DISTRIBUTION, IT WAS PROBABLY LAST OCTOBER WHEN LIFE FELT SIMPLER, BUT 23 DIFFERENT ZIP CODES WERE REPRESENTED BY FAMILIES.

SO THEY'RE DRIVING TO GET THESE THINGS IN.

BUT EVEN JUST IN EAST ALICE, IT, IT'S NOT JUST OWEN WOOD THAT'S DOING THINGS LIKE THIS.

MAYBE, MAYBE DIAPERS ARE A LITTLE UNIQUE TO OWEN WOOD.

THEY'RE FOOD DRIVES AT CHURCHES.

IT COULD BE ALL, IT SHOULD BE ON ABOUT 15, 20 MINUTES.

I'M SORRY.

AND THEN YOU COME BACK.

OKAY.

I'M OKAY.

THE, UM, THE, AND AND IF YOU THINK ABOUT 75, 20 28, WHICH BY THE WAY IS ONE OF THE MOST OVERLOOKED, UNDERSERVED ZIP CODES.

YES.

THERE'S POCKETS OF NICENESS, BUT THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE IN NEED, AS IS ALL OF DALLAS.

AND THE BIG THING IS WE RECOGNIZE THE CITY OF DALLAS CAN ONLY DO SO MUCH.

OH, SURE.

YEAH.

WE ARE A COMMUNITY CENTER WHERE THERE IS NO COMMUNITY CENTER.

AND, YOU KNOW, THE, THE, THE, THE WHOLE POINT OF IT IS 75 2 28 RUNS FROM 30 TO 6 35 ALL THE WAY TO 6 35 BY DALLAS ATHLETIC CLUB.

YEAH.

IT'S JUST A CRAZY HUGE AMOUNT OF FOLKS.

UH, AND SO PEOPLE ARE WILLING TO COME THERE.

BUT AGAIN, IT'S, IT IS THE ATTITUDE.

BUT I, I JUST WANNA LEAVE YOU WITH ONE THOUGHT AND I'M GONNA SHUT UP.

OKAY.

.

AND THAT IS, HOW OFTEN DO YOU GO DOWN THE STREET AND YOU SEE AN EMPTY CHURCH OR AN EMPTY BUILDING OR AN INACTIVE CHURCH? AND ALL I KEEP SAYING IS THERE'S A MISSED OPPORTUNITY.

YOU KNOW, THE BIG CHURCH IS OH YEAH.

YOU COUNT ON THEM BEING BUT IN OUR AREAS OF TOWN, THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITIES OUT THERE.

ABSOLUTELY.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, EITHER WE GET MORE THERE OR WE COLLABORATE MORE.

AND IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT THE CITY EVER WANTS TO COLLABORATE, WE'VE DONE COVID TESTING THERE.

WE DID VACCINATIONS THERE.

I MEAN, WE'RE, OUR, OUR FACILITY IS OPEN TO THE CITY ANYTIME.

UH, AND IF ANOTHER DISTRICT WANTS TO COLLABORATE OTHER THAN 2, 5, 7, 2, 9 AND SEVEN, COME ON, WE'RE READY.

I'LL TOUCH ON THIS LAST SLIDE REALLY BRIEFLY.

I ALWAYS LIKE TO INCLUDE THIS IN PRESENTATIONS, UH, JUST TO SHOW THAT WE'RE, WE'RE VERY SELF-AWARE OF CHALLENGES THAT WE FACE AND WHAT THE THREATS OF THIS TYPE OF MODEL ARE.

UM, THERE AREN'T MANY PLACE BASED NON-PROFITS IN DALLAS, AS I'VE GOTTEN TO KNOW.

OTHER IS EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS OF PLACES LIKE LAKE.

I THINK I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH YOU, JERRY ABOUT, UH, EARLIER AND THEN SOME OTHER.

BONTON FARMS IS PROBABLY A BIG ONE.

UM, THERE'S ABOUT 10 OR SO OF THEM AROUND DALLAS THAT ARE MORE DRIVEN BY PLACE AND LOCATION RATHER THAN ONE SPECIFIC AREA OF DE UM, WE'RE PRETTY AWARE OF WHAT THE CHALLENGES WE'RE FACING ARE.

AND I THINK THE BIGGEST ONE, AT LEAST AS FAR AS THE CITY IS CONCERNED, IS TRANSPORTATION.

ESPECIALLY AS IT PERTAINS TOSS.

WE HAVE A LOT FOR SENIORS AT OWEN WOULD, A LOT OF IT'S NEW.

A LOT OF IT'S MAYBE UNPROVEN AND DOESN'T NECESSARILY HAVE THE DATA TO BACK IT UP THAT IT'S WOULDN'T BE SUSTAINABLE FOR THE LONG TERM YET.

ALMOST EVERYTHING THAT KELLY MENTIONED, WHETHER IT'S THE GROWTH IN CHAIR YOGA, NEW PROGRAMS

[01:50:01]

LIKE GARDENING OR ART, UM, AND SOME OF THE OTHER THINGS I MENTIONED, LIKE, LIKE, UH, HEART HEALTH SEMINARS AND NUTRITION SEMINARS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

ALL OF THESE THINGS HAVE HAPPENED WITHIN THE LAST SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS.

SO THESE ARE BRAND NEW.

THE PROBLEM THAT I THINK WE HAVE ABOVE ALL ELSE IS GETTING FOLKS TO THE BUILDING.

AND IT'S NOT REALLY A MARKETING AND COMMUNICATION PROBLEM AS MUCH AS, AS A TRANSPORTATION PROBLEM.

YOU WERE TO TRY TO TAKE PUBLIC TRANSIT, UH, TO OWEN WOOD, UH, YOU WOULD BE DROPPED OFF EITHER AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL, UH, WHERE JOHN WEST TURNS INTO ENGLAND, GOING DOWN PI FERGUSON, UH, AND WALKING UPHILL SIX BLOCKS.

KIND THE CLASSIC UPHILL BOTH WAYS.

TYPE SCENARIO.

, UH, OR ON THE OTHER SIDE, UH, I'VE ONLY BEEN AT OWEN WOOD SINCE I GUESS SUMMER OF 21.

SO COMING UP ON TWO YEARS, ONE OF THE FIRST CONVERSATIONS I HAD WITH THE DIRECTOR AT THE TIME WHO WAS THINKING OF THIS PASTOR THERE BEFORE WE TRANSITIONED TO A NONPROFIT WAS, YEAH, I HAVE A CALL IN TO DART.

WE'RE TRYING TO GET A TRANSPORTATION, UH, A TRANSIT STOP, UH, CLOSE TO OWEN WOOD CUZ A LOT OF FOLKS CAN'T GET HERE FOR FOOD.

A LOT OF FOLKS CAN'T GET HERE FOR DIAPERS, FOLKS CAN'T GET HERE FOR CHERRY YOGA, ET CETERA, ET CETERA, ET CETERA.

IT'S MARCH OF 23 AND WE HAVE NOT MADE ANY MORE PROGRESS ON THAT.

MM-HMM.

.

SO THAT'S SOMETHING I THINK WE CAN USE SUPPORT FOR.

UM, DIVERSITY AND PROGRAM PARTICIPATION.

I THINK THAT'S AN AWARENESS ISSUE.

UM, OUR FOOD AND DIAPERS, 98% NON-WHITE IN TERMS OF RECIPIENTS.

OUR AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, UH, BOTH OF THEM, DSA DO NEW ORCHESTRA AND IN PROJECT INFORMATION, UH, PROJECT TRANSFORMATION, UH, BOTH A HUNDRED PERCENT NON-WHITE.

OUR YOGA, GARDENING AND ART PROGRAMS ABOUT 70% WHITE.

I THINK THERE'S A CERTAIN STRATIFICATION THERE THAT MAYBE THIS REQUIRES MORE PLANNING.

MAYBE THIS WILL WORK ITSELF OUT OVER TIME IN A DIVERSE AREA.

I DON'T KNOW THAT IT WILL.

I THINK THIS LOOKS COMMUNICATIONS.

I THINK THIS LOOKS LIKE, UH, MAKING MORE FOLKS WITH AND, AND POWER, SO TO SPEAK, LIKE YOURSELVES, UH, AWARE OF WHAT WE'RE DOING AND REFERRING FOLKS OVER TO US.

UM, AND THEN SUSTAINABLE FUNDING.

I JUST BRING UP, WE'RE IN OLD CHURCH VOTING.

WE HAVE PARTNERS INHOUSE BOTH COLLABORATIVELY, BUT ALSO TO GENERATE REVENUE.

WE'RE PRETTY GOOD AT GRANT FUNDING AND, AND FUNDRAISING ON OUR OWN.

THAT SAID, KEEPING THE LIGHTS ON IS ALWAYS A CHALLENGE.

SO IF THERE ARE WAYS FOR US TO PARTNER, BOTH IN TERMS OF ADVANCING, UH, SENIOR PROGRAMMING AND SERVICES, WHILE ALSO GETTING A LITTLE BIT OF CASH TO SUPPORT OUR OPERATIONS, SUPPORT OUR SMALL STAFF, PAY OUR UTILITY BONUSES DOWN TIME A LOT.

RUN THE AC IN THE 23,000 SQUARE FOOT BOAT.

UH, I'M ALL .

UM, THEN THAT FINAL SLIDE IS JUST MY INFORMATION AND COUNTS OF INFORMATION.

UH, HONESTLY, THE BEST WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH US, WITH, WITH OWEN WOOD IS PROBABLY JUST TO BECOME THE OWEN WOOD AS A PLACE BASED, NOT HAPPEN ABOUT THE PLACE.

WE'D LOVE TO GIVE YOU A TOUR.

YEAH.

WE'D LOVE TO TAKE YOU ON THE FARM, UH, AND HAVE KELLY, WE'LL TRY TO GET YOU TO DO CHEER YOGA.

THAT'S UP TO YOU.

UM, AND WE ALSO HAVE BUSINESS CARD FOR HAPPY.

STILL COME EVERY WEEK ONE TIME.

IF YOU COME, YOU'LL, YOU'LL BE WILLING TO DO IT ALL THE TIME.

, SORRY WE MADE YOU WAIT SO LONG, BUT THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE.

OTHER QUESTIONS? UH, THESE GUYS, THEY REALLY ARE DOING SOMETHING SPECIAL UP IN THERE.

THIS IS, THIS IS COMMISSIONER AUSTIN.

I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT, UM, I PARTICIPATE WITH KIM ARMEN AND SOME OF THE, UH, SCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT SHE HAS.

AND I KNOW THAT THEY DO, UM, SCHOOL GARDENING PROGRAMS THERE AT, UH, OWEN WOOD.

I HAVEN'T BEEN TO THE ONES THAT SHE HAS THERE, BUT I, I HEARD ABOUT YOU ALL THROUGH HER AND I DIDN'T KNOW THAT YOU DID THE SENIOR PROGRAMS THOUGH.

THAT'S REALLY NICE.

THANK YOU.

MM-HMM.

REALLY.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS BEFORE WE AJOUR? NO.

YES, LISA, THINK YOU'RE MUTED.

FRAN CHICKEN, IS THAT LISA? YEAH, THAT'S LISA KELLY.

HELLO.

OKAY.

SO, YOU KNOW.

OKAY.

SHE'S OKAY.

WE'RE WE'RE, SHE'S MUTED.

LISA, YOU'RE MUTED.

NO, I DIDN'T HAVE A QUESTION.

I WAS JUST WAVING.

.

YES.

ARE YOU, ARE YOU VOTING FOR ADJOURNMENT OR ARE YOU YEAH, NO, I'M MOTION NOW.

I'M NOT GONNA SECOND WE'RE ADJOURNED.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR NOT COUNT.
