SO WE'RE HERE TO TALK TODAY ABOUT THE CAREER LAUNCHPAD SESSIONS THAT OUR UNIT HAS PIONEERED AND IS CURRENTLY EXPANDING OUT TO A LOT OF OUR BRANCH LOCATIONS WITH THE GOAL OF EVENTUALLY OFFERING THE SERVICE AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS.
BEFORE WE TALK ABOUT WHAT A CAREER LAUNCHPAD IS, JUST GONNA TAKE A SECOND TO TALK ABOUT WHAT OUR UNIT DOES.
SO OUR UNIT IS THE SIXTH FLOOR OF THE CENTRAL LIBRARY.
WE ARE KNOWN AS CLUES, WHICH STANDS FOR CITY LIFE EDUCATION AND WORK SKILLS.
THOSE ARE OUR MAIN FOCUSES OF OUR UNIT HERE ON THE SIXTH FLOOR.
OUR COLLECTIONS AND STA STAFF EXPERTISE INCLUDE GRANTS INFORMATION, NONPROFIT MANAGEMENT, PATENTS, TRADEMARK AND COPYRIGHT HELP.
WE HAVE INFORMATION ON US FEDERAL DOCUMENTS, SET CENSUS DEMOGRAPHICS, AS WELL AS A LOT OF INFORMATION ABOUT URBAN ISSUES.
ONE OF OUR MAIN FOCUSES IS JOB RESOURCES AND CONNECTING JOB SEEKERS IN THE NORTH TEXAS AREA TO PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES.
AND I ALSO INCLUDED OUR CONTACT INFO THERE, WHICH ARE THE MAIN WAYS TO GET TO US.
A LOT OF THE WAYS THAT PEOPLE SCHEDULE THESE CLPS AREN'T ONLY IN PERSON.
THEY GIVE US A CALL, THEY GIVE US AN EMAIL AND LET US KNOW, HEY, THIS IS WHAT I NEED.

SO CAREER LAUNCHPAD SESSIONS ARE ONE-ON-ONE HELP WITH LIBRARY STAFF MEMBERS TO ASSIST PATRONS WITH BARRIERS TO ACCESSING JOBS AND RESOURCES TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE.

STAFF DO AT REFERENCE DESK IS THAT THESE ARE BOOKABLE APPOINTMENTS THAT WE SCHEDULE IN ADVANCE.SO THE C L P SYSTEM GUARANTEES THAT YOU WILL HAVE DEDICATED ONE-ON-ONE TIME TO TALK ABOUT YOUR SPECIFIC ISSUE WITH A FOCUS ON PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OR CONNECTING TO EXISTING RESOURCES IN THE, IN THE LIBRARY OR PERHAPS IN THE CITY OF DALLAS.

SO WITH THAT SAID, I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND HAVE DAISY TALK ABOUT THE KIND OF CLPS THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS YEAR AND OUR EXPANSION TO THE BRANCHES.
SO WE JUST KIND OF COMPILED SOME STATISTICS FROM THE, LIKE PAST TWO YEARS.
WE LOOKED THROUGH OUR SCHEDULES AND KIND OF WANTED TO SEE SOME NUMBERS ABOUT LIKE WHAT WE'RE DOING.
UM, THIS YEAR ALONE, WE'VE HAD 119 APPOINTMENTS AND WE BROKE IT DOWN BY APPOINTMENTS PER MONTH.
IN 2022, WE DID ABOUT 299 APPOINTMENTS, AND WE'VE ALREADY DONE 120, UM, THIS YEAR, AND APRIL ISN'T EVEN OVER YET AND WE WILL HAVE MORE APPOINTMENTS.
SO WE'RE HOPING TO BEAT THAT NUMBER.
WE STARTED OFF REALLY SLOW AND PICKED UP, UM, I THINK AROUND THE SUMMER TO THE END OF THE YEAR.
AND BASICALLY IN OUR, LIKE, IN OUR ONE-ON-ONE APPOINTMENTS, THEY'RE REALLY PATRON LED.
UM, OFTENTIMES WE GET PEOPLE WHO COME IN AND ARE LIKE, I NEED HELP FILLING OUT THIS APPLICATION.
I NEED TO GET AN APPLICATION SUBMITTED BY THE END OF THE DAY.
UM, I NEED TO FILL OUT THE, YOU KNOW, H HOUSING AND URBAN REVITALIZATION, YOU KNOW, APPLICATION.
AND WE BASICALLY JUST LIKE, WE SIT DOWN WITH SOMEONE AND WE KIND OF FIGURE OUT LIKE, WHAT ARE THE STEPS THAT WE NEED TO DO TO GET THEM TO THEIR END GOAL? BECAUSE OFTENTIMES WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE, I NEED TO GET A RESUME, BUT THEY DON'T ACTUALLY LIKE KNOW THEIR WORK HISTORY.
SO WE HAVE TO LIKE, WORK BACKWARDS.
WE HAVE TO LIKE EXPLAIN TO PEOPLE WHY THEY NEED, YOU KNOW, LIKE WE HAVE A WORK, WE ACTUALLY HAVE A WORKSHEET WHERE PEOPLE CAN FILL OUT THAT INFORMATION AND THAT WE CAN GUIDE THEM.
SO IF WE CAN'T DO THEIR RESUME THAT DAY, THEY'RE GONNA GO HOME WITH THAT WORKSHEET.
THEY'RE GONNA, YOU KNOW, LOOK THROUGH THEIR INFORMATION THAT THEY HAVE, FILL IT OUT, COME BACK, YOU KNOW, THE NEXT DAY OR LATER THAT WEEK.
AND THEN WE'RE GONNA PUT ALL OF THAT TOGETHER.
WE'RE GONNA KIND OF GIVE THEM SOME CONFIDENCE ABOUT USING, UM, WORD PROCESSING SOFTWARE.
UM, AND LIKE WE DON'T END IT AT JUST LIKE, OKAY, HERE'S YOUR RESUME.
WE TEACH PEOPLE HOW TO SAVE THEM, HOW TO EMAIL IT TO THEMSELVES, HOW TO SAVE IT.
IF THEY HAVE CLOUD STORAGE, YOU KNOW, WE PRINT OUT COPIES FOR THEM.
SO WE KIND OF, OUR GOAL IS TO TEACH PEOPLE THE SKILLS SO THAT EVENTUALLY THE NEXT TIME THEY COME IN, ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS PUT THEM ON ONE OF OUR JOB SEEKER COMPUTERS AND THEY CAN BE SELF-SUFFICIENT.
AND SO, UM, THAT'S KIND OF HOW APPOINTMENTS GO.
UM, WE CAN'T HELP WITH EVERYTHING.
SO LIKE WE CAN HELP YOU FILL OUT AN APPLICATION, BUT WE CAN'T NECESSARILY CONTROL THE OUTCOME OF THINGS LIKE THAT.

WE GOT A LOT OF GREAT QUESTIONS AND FEEDBACK.
UM, AND WE'RE BASICALLY KIND OF SHARING WHAT WE'VE LEARNED FROM IMPLEMENTING CLPS.
UM, WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT OF THE LOGISTICAL, KIND OF LIKE CONSIDERATIONS OF HOW TO IMPLEMENT IT, HOW TO MARKET, UM, AND YOU KNOW, HOW STAFF CAN BE CONFIDENT ABOUT DOING THESE APPOINTMENTS.
AND THEN WE'VE ALSO CREATED SOME RESOURCE PACKETS FOR BRANCH STAFF AND FOR ALL, FOR ALL LIBRARY STAFF AND FOR PATRONS AS WELL.
SO WE'VE COMPILED, UM, COMMON ISSUES THAT WE SEE.
SO WE, WE COMPILED INFORMATION ABOUT LIKE LEGAL RESOURCES AND THE DFW AREA.
UM, JOB SEARCH WEBSITES, KIND OF LIKE SERVICES.
UM, WE'RE ALSO IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING THE JOB SEEKER WEBSITE AND UPDATING THE SPANISH, UM, VERSION OF OUR JOB SEEKER WEBSITE AS WELL.
UM, THAT'S KIND OF WHAT WE'RE UP TO.
WE HAVE ANOTHER TRAINING SCHEDULED IN MAY AND THEN HOPEFULLY WE'LL BE ABLE TO GET SOME FEEDBACK ONCE, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE START KIND OF IMPLEMENTING AND YOU KNOW, MAYBE DOING SOME FOLLOW

JUST THIS LAST WEEK WE HAD A PATRON COME BACK TO SHOW US THEIR BADGE BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN HELPING THEM FILL OUT, UM, AN APPLICATION.
WE HELP THEM GET SET UP TO DO AN ONLINE INTERVIEW.
UM, WE ALSO HELPED THEM FILE FOR AN EXTENSION FOR THEIR EMERGENCY HOUSING.
LIKE, IT, IT WAS A LOT OF THINGS AND THEY WERE REALLY GRATEFUL AND THEY CAME BACK AND WE WERE SO HAPPY JUST TO SEE LIKE HOW MUCH THAT THEY HAD PROGRESSED IN A REALLY SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME.

SO THE ARCHIVES LIVE HERE AT THE LIBRARY AND WE'RE IN COOPERATION WITH THE MUSEUM AND WE WILL BE PROVIDING EVERYTHING THAT YOU SEE IN THAT MUSEUM BESIDES THE HOUSE BELONGS TO THE LIBRARY.
SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT PARTNERSHIP AND GETTING THAT MUSEUM, THAT HOUSE MUSEUM OPEN.
SO WE'LL BE WORKING ON THAT IN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS.
