THE POINT HERE IN A LITTLE

[00:00:01]

BIT.

WE STILL HAVE VACANCIES, I

[Municipal Library Board Meeting on November 1, 2023.]

BELIEVE, FOR DISTRICTS 3, 5, 6, AND 12.

SO WE'RE STILL OPERATING A LITTLE BIT SHORTHANDED.

UM, AND I JUST WANTED TO START BY THANKING ANDREA HILLBURN FOR HER SERVICE.

GOT TO SEE ANDREA AT THE DINNER THE OTHER NIGHT, LAST THURSDAY NIGHT.

IT WAS GOOD TO SIT WITH HER.

UM, AND I GUESS WE'LL START BY RECOGNIZING PUBLIC SPEAKERS.

AND WE HAVE NONE TODAY, SO WE NEED A MOTION TO APPROVE OUR SEPTEMBER MINUTES.

I MOVE.

WE HAVE A MOTION.

DO WE HAVE A SECOND? SECOND.

WE HAVE A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES? AYE.

ALL RIGHT.

THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED SO WE CAN JUMP RIGHT INTO OUR REPORTS.

UM, THE ONLY REPORT THAT I HAVE WAS ACTUALLY A QUESTION WE HAD TALKED ABOUT, AND I'M TRYING TO THINK, ANN WAS A PART OF THIS CONVERSATION.

I DON'T KNOW WHEN WE ACTUALLY LAST TALKED ABOUT THE IDEA OF ROTATING MEETINGS, UH, TO DIFFERENT BRANCH LIBRARIES.

AND AT THE TIME THAT WE DISCUSSED IT, THAT IT, THAT IT WOULD GIVE US A CHANCE TO BE IN DIFFERENT SPACES AND HAVE A MORE FULL APPRECIATION FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT, UH, BRANCH BRANCH LIBRARIES AND THEIR PERSONALITIES AND THEIR, UM, SUPERSTAR STAFF.

UM, BUT WE FELT LIKE WE NEEDED TO COMMIT TO BEING IN PERSON BEFORE WE DID THAT.

OTHERWISE, IF WE'RE JUST GONNA DO REMOTE MEETINGS, UH, ESSENTIALLY, BUT IT DOESN'T REALLY SERVE ANY PURPOSE TO DO THAT.

SO, UH, THAT WAS GONNA BE MY TOPIC, BUT GIVEN WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, I THINK I'M GONNA TABLE THAT AND MAYBE, MAYBE COME BACK TO THAT.

UH, TOM, ARE YOU, ARE YOU LEADING THE MEETING AS THE VICE CHAIR OR WERE YOU APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR AS THE NEW CHAIR? SO, TOM IS, IS OUR NEW CHAIR BECAUSE ANDREA RESIGNED AND WHEN, WHEN THE CHAIR RESIGNS, THE CO-CHAIR TAKES OVER.

OH, I SEE.

SO HE WAS OUR CO-CHAIR.

HE IS NOW OUR CHAIR AND WE HAVE NO CO-CHAIR.

SO WE WILL BE WAITING FOR THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT, UM, EITHER OF A NEW CHAIR, SO HE WILL BE CHAIR UNTIL WE GET A NEW CHAIR OR HE APPOINTS A CO-CHAIR AND, AND THEN TOM BECOMES THE PERMANENT CHAIR.

WE'RE WAITING FOR THE MAYOR'S RESPONSE, SO.

GOT IT.

BUT ANDREA DID RESIGN AND, UM, IN A, IN AN EMAIL.

THANK YOU.

MM-HMM.

.

SO I'M SORRY IF NOT EVERYBODY KNEW THAT ANDRE , SHE DID .

I KNEW HER TERM WAS, UM, EXPIRING, BUT THAT SHE WOULD SERVE AS CHAIR UNTIL SOMEONE ELSE WAS APPOINTED.

BUT I, SHE HAD THE, SHE, SHE HAD THE OPTION.

WE GAVE HER THE OPTION.

'CAUSE SHE COULD STAY ODD AND, AND SHE MADE A PERSONAL DECISION NOT TO.

GOT IT.

THANK YOU.

YEAH.

WHO, WHO DID SHE SEND THE EMAIL TO? JOE.

IT, SHE SENT IT TO, TO ME AND FELICIA AND THE CITY SECRETARY.

SO ALL OF THESE, ALL OF THESE FUNNEL THROUGH THE CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE AND THE CITY SECRETARY, UH, COMMUNICATES WITH THE MAYOR'S OFFICE.

SORRY, I'M LATE.

AND THE MORASS OF RED TAPE AND CITY HALL BUREAUCRACY, BUT WE WILL CARRY ON.

AND SO STAN, ALL, ALL THAT YOU MISSED IS THAT ANDREA, UM, DID RESIGN AS CHAIR AND TOM AS CO-CHAIR STEPS IN AS OUR CHAIR UNTIL THE MAYOR APPOINTS AGAIN.

AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE.

SO JOE, I'LL LET YOU INTRODUCE OUR, OUR PROGRAM FOR TODAY.

RIGHT.

SO, UM, OUR, LET ME SEE, OUR TITLES ARE ALL CHANGING.

SO, UM, OUR COM COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ADMINISTRATOR SHANNON ADAMS, WE'RE IS GOING TO TALK ABOUT, UM, SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

SO SHANNON, UH, TAKE IT AWAY.

ALL RIGHT.

HELLO EVERYONE.

I THINK I'VE MET A COUPLE OF YOU.

SO, HELLO, MY NAME IS SHANNON ADAMS AND I AM GOING TO JUST TELL YOU ABOUT OUR SENIOR PROGRAM.

SO WE ARE EXCITED BECAUSE WE RECENTLY RECEIVED, UM, MORE FUNDING FOR SENIOR PROGRAMS THROUGH THE CITY.

AND SO WITH THAT WE HAVE SOME PROGRAM PRIORITIES.

UM, AND I'LL JUST GO THROUGH 'EM REALLY QUICKLY.

I'LL SHOW 'EM SO THAT YOU CAN SEE THEM.

BUT, UM, OUR PROGRAM PRIORITIES FOR SENIOR PROGRAMMING ARE, UM, TO JUST CREATE RECREATIONAL AND, UH, CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

[00:05:02]

AS WELL AS TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS. I'M NOT SURE IF YOU ALL CAN SEE MY SCREEN.

YOU MIGHT JUST BE SEEING .

OKAY.

BECAUSE JUST BEING TALKED.

.

OKAY.

WELL THEN I'LL JUST KEEP TALKING.

OKAY.

NOW I'M SHARING, SEEING YOUR, OKAY.

THERE IT IS.

THERE YOU GO.

YOU SEE THE, YOU SEE THE PRIORITIES.

YEAH.

AND WE SEE THEM.

I DO.

ALRIGHT, GOOD.

OKAY.

SO, UM, THE PRIORITIES HERE ARE THE RECREATIONAL AND TECHNOLOGY AND EVENT, UH, INNOVATION INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS, HEALTHCARE AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT OR LITERACY PREVENTION, AND THEN OF COURSE EMPLOYMENT AND VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE SENIORS.

I WON'T GET INTO THE WEEDS OF THIS.

I JUST KIND OF WANTED TO SHOW YOU THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON PRIORITY AREAS BECAUSE I DID LOOK AT, UM, THE PRO PROFILE OF DALLAS SENIORS, UM, IN THE AREAS.

SO ALL OF THE DISTRICTS, AND THIS IS WHAT HELPED ME TO DETERMINE WHICH PRIORITY LOCATIONS WE WILL HAVE THE MOST PROGRAMS. BUT WE PLAN ON HAVING PROGRAMS AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS FOR SENIORS.

UM, BECAUSE AGAIN, WE RECEIVED CITY FUNDING, SO WE WANNA TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

SO THE PRIORITY LOCATIONS OF FOREST GREEN, HOLLAND HILLS, UH, NORTH OAK, CLIFF PARK, FOREST, POE, WISDOM AND WHITE ROCK.

AND THEN OF COURSE THOSE, UH, BECAUSE WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE FUNDING, WE ALSO HAVE A POSITION FOR THAT TO HELP US WITH, UH, UH, PROGRAMMING FOR SENIORS.

OF COURSE, WE HAVE OUR PROGRAMMING TEAM AND BRANCH STAFF THAT WILL HELP WITH THAT.

BUT OUR ADULT SERVICES COORDINATOR WILL HELP COLLABORATE, UM, WITH THE STAFF TO CREATE SOME SYSTEM-WIDE PROGRAMMING, PARTICULARLY OUR INSPIRED AGING RESIDENCIES.

I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL REMEMBER A FEW YEARS AGO WE GOT SOME GRANTS FOR, WE GOT A GRANT FOR AN INSPIRING AGING PROGRAM WHERE THEY CAME AND DID SOME CREATIVE, UH, ARTS TYPES OF THINGS WITH PERFORMERS, PAID PERFORMERS, AND THEY DID IT IN A SERIES OF PROGRAMS. AND THAT'S WHAT WE'RE GOING TO BRING BACK.

SO I'M IN THE PROCESS OF SURVEYING THE SENIORS TO SEE WHAT THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE, WHETHER IT'S PAINTING, DRAMA, UM, ART, WHATEVER IT IS, UH, MUSIC LESSONS, WHATEVER IT IS, SO THAT WE CAN GET THOSE SCHEDULED AND HAVE THOSE RESIDENCIES AT OUR LOCATIONS FOR SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

SO I JUST KIND OF WANTED TO POINT OUT SOME OF THE CURRENT PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE GOING ON CURRENTLY FOR OUR SENIORS THAT WE'LL ADD TO BECAUSE WE DON'T PLAN ON TAKING ANYTHING AWAY.

OUR SENIORS ARE VERY INVOLVED IN OUR SYSTEM.

SO WE HAVE MEDICARE ASSISTANCE, HEALTHCARE NAVIGATION, WELLNESS, UM, AND A, AGAIN, A LOT OF STUFF HAS BEEN ADDED TO THESE SOCIAL PROGRAMS LIKE THE COFFEE CLUB AND CROCHETING, KNITTING ACROSS THE SYSTEM.

AND THEN WE STILL OFFER THE CURBSIDE SY UH, SERVICE THAT STARTED IN, UH, DURING THE PANDEMIC.

YOU KNOW, CURBSIDE WAS FOR EVERYONE, BUT WE DECIDED, WE RECOGNIZED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING THAT WAS VERY BENEFICIAL TO OUR SENIORS.

AND SO THEY TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF IT WHEN, UM, AND SO THEY CAN JUST CALL AHEAD AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

AND THEN WE HAVE OUR, UM, MATERIALS ALWAYS GONNA HAVE THOSE LARGE PRINT MATERIALS IN THE DIGITAL AUDIO BOOKS.

BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I LOVE IS OUR MEMORY CARE KIDS.

THESE ARE FOR, UM, SENIORS THAT MAY BE SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA.

SO SYMPTOMS OF, UM, MEMORY LOSS.

AND IT IS JUST, THESE ARE REMINISCENCE KITS.

THEY ARE NOW IN CIRCULATION.

I REMEMBER NOT LONG AGO WE WERE TALKING ABOUT HAVING, GETTING THEM IN CIRCULATION.

THEY'RE IN CIRCULATION AT THREE LOCATIONS.

BUT WITH OUR NEW PROGRAMMING, I REALLY HOPE TO EXPAND THAT AND HAVE IT AT MORE LOCATIONS.

UM, SO THESE KIDS ARE NOW IN CIRCULATION.

THEY CAN BE CHECKED OUT AT THREE LOCATIONS, NORTH OAK, CLIFF PARK FOREST, AND UM, HOLLAND HILLS.

AND, UM, THEY, THEY DO, AND THEY'RE TO HELP THE CAREGIVER TO, YOU KNOW, PROVOKE SOME MEMORIES FOR SENIORS.

SOME OF THE EXAMPLES OF THOSE MEMORY KITS ARE LIKE CENSORING SOUND.

UM, SO WHETHER IT'S THE, THE SEASIDE OR IT'S THE FOREST OR IT'S, YOU KNOW, FISHING, JUST DIFFERENT TYPES OF THINGS TO HELP THEM KIND OF RECALL THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THEIR LIVES THAT CAN JUST BRING BACK SOME HAPPY TIMES.

AND THEN OF COURSE I MENTIONED IT BEFORE, OUR, UH, FUTURE PROGRAMS, THE THING THAT I'M WORKING ON WITH OUR SENIOR SURVEY IS TRYING TO GET OUR INSPIRING AGING RESIDENCIES BACK TO WHERE, UM, BASICALLY WE HIRE PROFESSIONALLY, UM, PROFESSIONALS TO CONDUCT THOSE ART PROGRAMS FOR SENIOR ADULTS.

UM, WHETHER THEY'RE PAINTING CLASSES OR SINGING AND DANCING, THOSE MUSIC CLASSES, THEATER, WRITING, CREATIVE WRITING, WHATEVER IT IS.

UM, AND SO JUST REALLY TRYING TO BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT WHAT WE'RE OFFERING WITH THOSE, THOSE, UH, RESIDENCIES BECAUSE WE WANT THE SENIORS TO TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF IT.

AND THEN OF

[00:10:01]

COURSE, THE PROGRAMS THAT WE DO THAT WE'RE ALSO OFFERING SENIOR SPECIFIC TECHNOLOGY.

SO THOSE THINGS THAT MAY BE FOCUSED ON SOCIAL MEDIA, INTERNET SAFETY, UM, EVEN JUST PLANO DEVICE TRAINING.

SO THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE COMING UP WITH OUR NEW FUNDING.

AND I FEEL LIKE I JUST REALLY BREEZED THROUGH ALL OF THAT , BUT I KNOW I HAD A LIMITED AMOUNT OF TIME AND I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT I ALSO LEFT ROOM FOR IF YOU ALL HAD ANY QUESTIONS.

BUT I'M GONNA STOP SHARING AND I'LL JUST REITERATE THAT, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE THAT NEW FUNDING FROM THE CITY TO UH, SUPPORT THESE SENIOR PROGRAMS AND WE ARE LOOK REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THEM TAKING OFF THE MORE STARTING IN UM, NOVEMBER.

AND THEN JUST GOING ON FROM THERE.

JUST ADDING TO, AND I WILL ADD ON THAT WE, UM, GOT $50,000 IN THIS FISCAL YEAR'S BUDGET FOR THESE PROGRAMS. AND WE GET 50,000 NEXT YEAR BECAUSE WE DO A TWO YEAR BUDGET WITH THE CITY AND TC AND THE CFO'S OFFICE HAS PROMISED THIS ONGOING FUNDING FOR SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

SO I ANTICIPATE THAT THIS, THE MONEY WILL CONTINUE UNLESS SOMETHING DRASTIC HAPPENS.

WE'VE GOTTEN A PROMISE FOR THIS SENIOR PROGRAM FUNDING TO CONTINUE.

SO THAT'S EXCITING.

SHANNON, ARE THE, ARE THE, UM, SENIOR TECH CLASSES, ARE THEY LIKE DROP IN SORT OF GEEK SQUAD HELP OR ARE THEY ACTUALLY SORT OF DESIGN CURRICULUM SYLLABUS KIND OF THING? SO IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE LOCATION THAT THEY'RE OFFERED.

SOME OF THEM ARE DROP IN AND THEN SOME OF THEM ARE ONE-ON-ONE, BUT IT IS CURRICULUM DEVELOPED FOR MOST OF THEM.

UM, NOW OUR DIGITAL, UM, LITERACY COORDINATOR WAS REALLY HELPING WITH, UH, DOING THE CURRICULUM FOR THOSE CLASSES.

SO RIGHT NOW THEY'VE BEEN HALTED AS FAR AS THE ONES THAT HAVE THE ACTUAL CURRICULUM.

BUT WE DEFINITELY ARE GONNA CONTINUE WITH THAT AS SOON AS I HAVE THAT IN PLACE.

, I HAD A QUESTION.

UM, I DIDN'T SEE GARDENING ON THERE AND I KNOW THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF FOLKS THAT LIKE TO GARDEN.

A LOT OF SENIORS WHO LIKE TO GARDEN.

AND THERE'S A LOT OF GARDEN CLUBS IN DALLAS THAT WOULD PROBABLY BE WILLING TO PARTNER AS FAR AS PROVIDING PROGRAMMING OR SHARING KNOWLEDGE.

UM, AND THEY'RE FAIRLY INEXPENSIVE.

UH, AND YOU CAN ALSO PARTNER WITH THE DALLAS COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS AND THEY HAVE FOR OFFER A WEALTH OF PROGRAMS AND YOU KNOW, YOU DON'T HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN $50 AND THEY'LL PROVIDE A CLASS.

AND WE'VE USED THAT AT SOME OF OUR BRANCHES AND THEY'VE BEEN QUITE SUCCESSFUL.

OKAY.

DALLAS COUNTY MASTER GARDENERS, I WILL CHECK THEM OUT 'CAUSE THAT IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN LISTED AS SHANNON AN INTEREST CONNECT, UM, WITH MAY ON THE FIFTH FLOOR.

'CAUSE WE DO A LOT OF PROGRAMMING WITH, UM, DALLAS MASTER GARDENERS THROUGH THE FIFTH FLOOR STAFF ALREADY AND THE STUFF THAT'S HAPPENING THERE.

SO I'M SURE THAT THEY ALREADY HAVE THE CONTACTS, UM, AND CAN CONNECT YOU.

OKAY, THANKS.

BUT YOU KNOW, STAN, A LOT OF THESE PROGRAMS, WE ARE SURVEYING OUR SENIORS AND WE'RE ASKING THEM WHAT THEY WANT US TO PROVIDE, RIGHT? SO WE ARE BEING RESPONSIVE TO THE CUSTOMER, UM, REQUESTS THAT WE'RE GETTING.

SO AND SO TWO QUESTIONS.

ONE IS HOW ARE WE DEFINING A SENIOR, I ASSUME 65 AND OVER, BUT SOME PEOPLE WHO ARE 65 WOULD SAY THEY'RE NOT SENIOR.

AND THEN SECONDARILY, HOW DID WE DETERMINE WHICH FIVE OR SIX BRANCHES ARE INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM AS OPPOSED TO ALL OF THE OTHER 25 BRANCHES? THANK YOU FOR THAT QUESTION MS. HARDING.

YOU KNOW, AND, AND ACTUALLY THAT'S SOMETHING THAT I, I USUALLY ADD IN THIS PRESENTATION, BUT I THINK I WAS TRYING TO GO THROUGH IT SO SWIFTLY WE DO, YEAH.

WE ACTUALLY, I ACTUALLY KINDA LOWERED THE AGE A LITTLE BIT.

I SAID 60 JUST BECAUSE I, YOU KNOW, WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IT ENCOMPASSED MORE PEOPLE.

AND THEN ALSO, UM, THE WAY, UM, I DETERMINED FOR THE BRANCHES IS BY LOOKING AT THE PROFILE OF THE DALLAS SENIOR POPULATION.

SO IT WAS TWO THINGS THAT I LOOKED AT THE, I LOOKED AT THE, UM, MAPPING AND THEN I LOOKED AT THE DATA THAT THE SENIOR AFFAIRS COMMISSION PUT OUT.

THEY PUT OUT, UH, THEY HAD THIS ORGANIZATION DO A, UH, DO AN ANALYSIS OF THE POPUL, THE SENIOR POPULATION BECAUSE IT WAS GROWING.

AND SO I LOOKED AT ALL OF THOSE POPULATIONS IN THE DIFFERENT DISTRICTS THAT THE SENIORS HAVE INCREASED AND JUST KIND OF WENT FROM THERE IN

[00:15:01]

DECIDING, OKAY, WE MIGHT ACTUALLY NEED TO TRY TO ENGAGE A LITTLE BIT MORE IN THIS AREA.

WELL, IT MIGHT BE BETTER TO CALL IT ACTIVE ADULTS, TO SENIOR.

I LIKE THAT.

WELL, I'VE, I MEAN, I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THEIR SEVENTIES AND EIGHTIES WHO ARE GOING FULL BLAST THAT THEY DON'T SLOW DOWN UNTIL THEY GET TO ABOUT 85 NOW.

SO, UM, I'VE DEFINITELY HEARD THE TERM ACTIVE OLDER ADULTS SUPPLIED TO SENIOR PROGRAMS BECAUSE YES, THE ACTIVISTS OR ADULTS DO NOT LIKE BEING CALLED SENIOR.

YEAH.

BUT, AND THAT IS REALLY WHEN WE ORIGINATED THIS WAY BACK, CALLED IT INSPIRED AGING INSTEAD OF YEAH.

SENIOR PROGRAMMING AND STUFF.

SO WE PROBABLY NEED TO BE MORE CREATIVE WITH THE, THE NAME AND HOW ARE WE MARKETING IT SO THAT PEOPLE ARE AWARE.

WE'RE JUST GETTING IT IN PLACE NOW.

WE JUST GOT THE FUNDING, SO WE'RE STILL IN THE CREATION PHASE.

AND YEAH, WE DO HAVE MELISSA AND HER TEAM WORKING ON THE MARKETING.

SO WE'LL BE SHARING ALL THAT ONCE IT'S IN PLACE.

OKAY.

UH, SHANNON, CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE MEMORY KITS? YEAH, SO THE MEMORY KITS, THEY, UM, THEY ARE WHAT WE CALL, WELL THE, WE GET 'EM THROUGH ETERNALLY.

UM, THE, THE COMPANY IS CALLED ETERNALLY AND WHAT HAPPENS IS THEY OFFER DIFFERENT, UM, CDS OR DVDS RATHER AND, UM, MATERIALS.

IT'S A, A LITTLE PACKET OF CURRICULUM.

I, I THOUGHT I HAD A ONE OVER HERE.

AND SO IT JUST REALLY HAS EITHER TOUCH OR FILL OR SMELL TYPE THINGS, TOUCH OR SMELL TYPE THINGS THAT CAN HAVE HELP SPARK THE MEMORY.

BUT THEN IT HAS SOME CONVERSATION BITS TO IT AS WELL THAT ALL ARE IN A BACKPACK IN A CLEAR BACKPACK.

AND THIS BACKPACK IS SOMETHING THAT THE RESIDENT OR THEIR CAREGIVER CAN CHECK OUT AND THEY JUST PULL THE THINGS OUT OF THE BACKPACK AND THE CAREGIVER CAN READ THE, THE INSTRUCTIONS AND TALK IN THOSE TALKING POINTS WITH THE SENIOR, THE OLDER ADULT OR EITHER THEY CAN, UM, DO IT THEMSELVES.

IT'S JUST WHOEVER WANTS TO CHECK IT OUT.

'CAUSE THE OLDER ADULT MIGHT BE ONE WHO IS NOT NECESSARILY, UM, TRULY FOCUSED, UH, HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MEMORY LOSS, BUT MAYBE JUST WANNA HAVE SOME REMINISCENT TIME.

BUT THESE MEMORY KITS WERE REALLY DESIGNED TO HELP WITH THOSE WHO WERE SUFFERING WITH DEMENTIA TO BE ABLE TO JUST KIND OF PROVOKE SOME MEMORY AND JUST ENJOY THAT TIME.

AND LIKE I SAID, THEY ARE, THEY WERE, WE ROLLED THEM OUT JUST TO BE AT THOSE PARTICULAR LOCATIONS BECAUSE THOSE WERE THE MOST, UM, THE LOCATIONS THAT HAD THE MOST TRAFFIC THAT WERE, YOU KNOW, SEEKING MORE THINGS TO, TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO WERE SUFFERING FROM DEMENTIA, SOME KIND OF MEMORY LOSS.

AND SO WE, UM, SO I DECIDED TO GO AHEAD AND PUT 'EM IN THOSE THREE LOCATIONS FIRST JUST TO PILOT, SEE HOW IT DO, SEE HOW WELL THEY WOULD, THEY WOULD CHECK OUT, SEE IF THE MATERIALS THAT ALL CAME IN THE BACKPACKS WOULD EVEN RETURN.

BECAUSE YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU GET TO CHECKING OUT SOMETHING THAT HAS SO MANY PIECES TO IT, IT COULD BE THINGS ARE LOST.

SO JUST REALLY WANTING TO TRY IT OUT TO SEE WHAT IF, UH, WHAT KIND OF PLAN I NEEDED TO HAVE IN PLACE FOR REPLACEMENT OF THINGS.

SO JUST ALL OF THOSE DIFFERENT TYPES OF THINGS WHEN IT CAME TO THE MEMORY KIT.

BUT NOW THAT IT'S BEEN GOING PRETTY WELL, CHECK CIRCULATION HAS BEEN REALLY WELL GOOD WITH THEM.

WHEN THEY FIRST STARTED GETTING THE WORD OUT ABOUT IT, UM, THEY WERE PRETTY POPULAR AND SO THEY WERE OUT FOR A WHILE, BUT, UM, WHEN THEY CAME BACK WE GOT EVERYTHING BACK WITH THEM.

SO, SO IT 10 KITS PER THESE THREE BRANCHES RIGHT NOW IT'S SIX KITS AT EACH OF THOSE BRANCHES.

OKAY.

ALRIGHT.

THANK YOU.

AND SO IF YOU LIVE AT YOU, DO YOU HAVE TO GO TO THAT BRANCH OR IF YOU COULD YOU HAVE IT REQUESTED TO COME TO ANOTHER BRANCH? SO IT, RIGHT, RIGHT NOW IT'S NOT WHERE WE CAN ACTUALLY HAVE IT FLOAT, LIKE TRANSFER IT TO ANOTHER BRANCH.

THE CAREGIVER HAS TO PICK IT UP FROM THOSE LOCATIONS.

BUT, UM, I'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THE MANAGERS TO SEE HOW WE CAN, IF, IF IT WILL WORK TO FLOAT THEM BECAUSE THEY ARE BACKPACKS AND SO IT'S A LITTLE BIT MORE CHALLENGING TO GET 'EM THROUGH DELIVERY SERVICES, UM, FROM BRANCH TO BRANCH, WE COULD PROBABLY GET IT FROM CENTRAL.

SO WE'RE STILL TRYING TO WORK OUT THE LOGISTICS OF MAKING IT LIKE OUR, UH, BOOK COLLECTION WHERE IT'S FLOATING, BUT I'M PRETTY SURE I

[00:20:01]

CAN GET IT TO WORK.

WE'RE STILL WORKING ON THAT PART.

ANY QUESTIONS FOR SHANNON? COULD WE GET A COPY OF THE PRESENTATION TO SHARE WITH OUR COUNCIL MEMBERS? I SURELY CAN.

I BELIEVE I, YEAH, I'LL GET THAT TO YOU, JOE.

ARE ARE YOU COMING FROM UH, SEATTLE OR ARE YOU GOING TO SEATTLE? I CAME HERE FROM SEATTLE, SO, YEP.

WELL, WELL IT'S TIME FOR THE DIRECTOR'S REPORT .

SO GREETINGS FIRE US .

GREETINGS FROM CHICAGO .

SO KIRSTEN AND I WERE IN SEATTLE LAST WEEK FOR THE URBAN LIBRARY COUNCIL MEETING, UM, CELEBRATING OUR INNOVATION AWARD AS WELL AS, UM, BEING WITH OUR PEERS.

UM, WE HAD A GREAT CONFERENCE AND IT WAS REALLY NICE TO CONNECT WITH PEOPLE AND DISCUSS, YOU KNOW, LIBRARY ISSUES.

AND, UM, IT'S ALWAYS NICE WHEN YOU GO, BECAUSE THIS MEETING ONLY HAD ABOUT 200 PEOPLE AT IT VERSUS MOST OF OUR MEETINGS WHERE THE ATTENDEES ARE IN THE MULTIPLE, UH, TENS OF THOUSANDS.

SO IT WAS, UH, VERY SMALL ON THAT RESPECT.

SO YOU REALLY GOT TO TALK TO MORE PEOPLE.

UM, AND IT WAS NICE TO SIT AT A TABLE WITH THE DIRECTOR OF BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY AND FOR HIM TO SAY HE WAS INSPIRED BY WHAT DALLAS WAS DOING.

AND I WAS LIKE, REALLY? LIKE WE DON'T HAVE A JAY-Z EXHIBIT LIKE YOU DO .

SO, YOU KNOW, UM, IT WAS FUN AND WE LEARNED A LOT.

IT WAS GOOD TO CONNECT.

UM, AND THEN I CAME TO CHICAGO TO BABYSIT, WHICH I DID THIS PAST WEEKEND.

UM, AND THEN WE'LL BE COMING HOME TOMORROW.

SO WE'LL BE BACK IN DALLAS FOR OUR BIG JOB FAIR, WHICH HAPPENS ON THURSDAY AND FRIDAY AS WE FILL OUR 60 PLUS POSITIONS, UM, THAT ARE, THAT WE WERE GIFTED WITH, WITH THE NEW BUDGET TO OPEN ALL LOCATIONS TO SIX DAYS A WEEK.

SO THAT HAS KEPT EVERYBODY SUPER BUSY.

ALSO HAPPENING TOMORROW IS THE ASSISTANT DIRECTORS INTERVIEWS.

SO I HAVE FIVE CANDIDATES BEING INTERVIEWED FOR ASSISTANT DIRECTOR TOMORROW.

SO IT'LL BE A BUSY DAY.

UH, AND THEN FRIDAY WE'RE AT ALL OF THE EXECUTIVE TEAM.

UM, KIRSTEN, HEATHER AND I ARE ATTENDING A RETREAT WITH, UH, THE CITY MANAGER AND THE ASSISTANT CITY MANAGERS.

SO WE WILL BE DOING THAT ON FRIDAY.

SO IT'S GONNA BE AN INTERESTING WEEK .

UM, THE OTHER THING THAT I HAVE AS AN UPDATE RIGHT NOW IS THAT THROUGHOUT THE LAST WEEK WE'VE HAD MULTIPLE MEETINGS WITH OUR STRATEGIC PLAN GROUP.

UM, WE'LL BE MEETING WITH THEM AGAIN ON MONDAY.

UM, WE HAVE GOTTEN WHAT I WILL TELL YOU THAT I'VE GOT THE FINAL DRAFT TODAY.

UM, I EDITED, SENT SOME EDITS AND REMARKS TO THEM ABOUT OUR VISION.

WELL, WE, WE SETTLED ON OUR FOUR VALUES AND WE HAVE COME UP WITH OUR GOALS.

UM, AND SO I KNOW THAT ESPECIALLY KEN BENSON, OUR CHAIR OF THE OPPOS, GONNA BE VERY EXCITED THAT WE'RE ALREADY PLANNING OUR ACTION ITEMS. HE WAS VERY WORRIED ABOUT HOW FAST WE COULD IMPLEMENT OUR STRATEGIC PLAN BASED ON THESE GOALS.

AND SO WE'RE ALREADY WORKING ON IT.

UM, BUT SO I WILL BE SHARING WITH YOU THAT DRAFT DOCUMENT.

IT WILL BE EMBARGOED, SO I WANNA SHARE IT WITH YOU ALL AND MARY, WE'LL SHARE IT WITH YOUR BOARD AS WELL.

UM, BUT IT, I IT HASN'T BEEN SHARED WITH TC AND LIZ YET, SO I'LL BE LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK AND COMMENTS.

UM, WE WILL BE TALKING ABOUT THEM AT THE VISIONING SESSIONS THAT ARE GOING TO BE HAPPENING NEXT WEEK.

UM, THOSE ARE, THOSE LIST, WELL, SORRY, VISIONING, THEY'RE LISTENING SESSIONS, UM, WHICH WILL BE VIRTUAL OR YOU CAN GO TO, UH, SELECTED BRANCHES TO PARTICIPATE.

SO WE HAVE ONE NIGHT THAT'S IN ENGLISH AND ONE NIGHT THAT'S IN SPANISH.

UM, AND I DON'T HAVE MY NOTES IN FRONT OF ME, SO I'LL ASK EITHER KIRSTEN OR HEATHER TO JUMP IN WITH THOSE DATES.

IT'S THE SEVENTH AND THE NINTH.

THE SEVENTH IS IN SPANISH AND THE NINTH IS ENGLISH.

OKAY.

SO THE 7TH OF NOVEMBER IS IN SPANISH AND THE 9TH OF NOVEMBER IN ENGLISH, WHICH WILL BE LIKE THE TELE-TOWN HALLS.

YOU CAN CALL IN AND LISTEN OR YOU CAN GO TO, UM, A BRANCH AND JOIN AS WELL.

AND SO WHAT THEY'RE GONNA DO IS GO OVER WHAT THEY'VE LEARNED FROM THE COMMUNITY FEEDBACK, HOW WE REACHED THE GOALS.

THEY WON'T ACTUALLY BE, UM, OUTLINING THE EXACT GOALS.

THEY'RE GONNA GO BY CONCEPT JUST

[00:25:01]

TO GET FEEDBACK AND SEE HOW PEOPLE ARE FEELING ABOUT THEM.

AND THEN WE'RE GONNA TAKE ALL THAT DATA INTO CONSIDERATION AND NEXT STEPS.

BUT I'M GONNA GO AHEAD AND SHARE THE DRAFT WITH YOU ALL JUST TO GET YOUR FEEDBACK IN CASE YOU CAN'T ATTEND ONE OF THOSE SESSIONS.

UM, SO IT WILL JUST BE SORT OF A CONFIDENTIAL DOCUMENT BETWEEN ME AND YOU ALL, AND THEN I'LL ASK YOU TO SHARE YOUR COMMENTS BACK WITH ME AS WE MOVE FORWARD IN THIS PROCESS.

SO WE'RE LOOKING TO, UM, PRESENT IT.

THEN THE FINAL VERSION BASED ON THE FEEDBACK TO YOU ALL ON THAT SPECIAL MEETING.

WE'VE CALLED ON DECEMBER 12TH AT 4:00 PM THAT WILL INCLUDE OF COURSE, MUNICIPAL LIBRARY BOARD AS WELL AS OUR FRIENDS OF THE DALLAS PUBLIC LIBRARY.

SO THIS HAS BEEN AN ARDUOUS PROCESS.

I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW MUCH WORK IT'S BEEN.

UM, I'M TALKING LIKE MELISSA, HEATHER AND I HAD LIKE SIX MEETINGS LAST WEEK ABOUT THIS AND WITH THE STRATEGIC PLAN AND WORKING ON IT.

SO WE'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD AND I HOPE THAT THE WORK SHOWS, UM, IN THE FINAL PRODUCT AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN ALL LIVE UP TO AS WELL AS BEING ASPIRATIONAL FOR US AS A SYSTEM, SO, AND MOVE US FORWARD.

SO I'M PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT IT.

UM, AND EXHAUSTED.

SO , BUT IT'S LOOKING GOOD.

AND, AND I WILL SAY, UM, I, LAST TOPIC FOR ME AGAIN IS THE BOND, UM, THE UPCOMING BOND.

SO I DID ATTEND A MEETING YESTERDAY WITH THE CRITICAL FACILITY SUBCOMMITTEE WHERE THEY HAD BEEN TASKED BY THE, THE BOND COMMITTEE TO REDUCE, UM, SOME OF THE ALLOCATIONS AND THE, THE SUBCOMMITTEE , ALL THESE NAMES WAS QUITE, UM, MIXED IN WHERE THEY WERE PLANNING TO CUT.

SO AT THE END OF THAT MEETING YESTERDAY, AND IF Y'ALL SAW ME PICK UP THE PHONE AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MEETING, IT WAS 'CAUSE GAY DAWNELL WILLIS WAS CALLING ME AND SHE WANTED TO TALK ABOUT IT.

SO I TOLD HER I'D CALL HER BACK.

BUT, UM, THAT THE, THE, WHERE THEY LANDED FOR THE LIBRARY IN PARTICULAR WAS TO FUND THE ADA UPGRADES, WHICH WAS A LITTLE OVER $2 MILLION.

UM, THE FUND, PRESTON ROYAL AND NORTH OAK CLIFF.

SO AT THE END OF THE DAY, UNLESS THE COMMITTEE ASSIGNS MORE FUNDS TO THE CRITICAL FACILITIES GROUP, UM, THE PARK FOREST PROJECT HAS BEEN CUT AND NOT FUNDED, WHICH DOES NOT MAKE US HAPPY, UM, AT ALL.

UM, IT, IN MY HEART, I, AS YOU KNOW, I'M ALWAYS REAL CLEAR WITH Y'ALL THAT I STILL THINK THAT THERE'S A POSSIBILITY FOR THE PROJECT TO TAKE PLACE BECAUSE OF THE 17 MILLION THEY'RE PLEDGING TOWARDS NORTH OAK CLIFF.

I BELIEVE IF WE GO INTO A MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT FOR THAT PROJECT AND GET PARTNERS, WE WON'T SPEND THAT MUCH.

AND THAT'S MY INTENTION WAS LIKE WE DON'T SPEND THAT MUCH, UM, AND THEN MAYBE DO A MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT FOR PARK FORCE AS WELL.

AND MAYBE WE GET E BOTH OF THEM OUT.

SO THAT'S MY LOFTY ASPIRATION AND HOPES AND DREAMS. BUT AS OF RIGHT NOW, UNLESS THE COMMITTEE CHANGES THEIR MIND AND GIVES THE LIBRARY MORE MONEY, PARK FOREST IS NOT INCLUDED.

AND I WILL CAVEAT ALL OF THAT WITH THIS IS STILL A VERY MOBILE MOVEMENT THAT'S HAPPENING, THAT THE, THE COMMITTEE CAN CHANGE ALL THESE NUMBERS.

THIS IS JUST THE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE SUBCOMMITTEES AND THEN THE, WHEN THE COMMITTEE SENDS IT TO COUNCIL, CITY COUNCIL CAN CHANGE THESE NUMBERS.

SO THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY THEN FOR THE COUNCIL MEMBERS TO REALLY ADVOCATE FOR SPECIFIC PROJECTS LIKE THIS ONE.

SO, AND THAT'S WHERE YOU ALL CAN COME IN TO HELP BY TALKING TO YOUR COUNCIL MEMBERS ABOUT SUPPORTING THE PARK FOREST PROJECT AND GETTING IT ADDED BACK IN.

UM, SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE AND IT'S AN ONGOING PROCESS.

AND AS A MATTER OF FACT, THEY STILL HAVEN'T DECIDED YET IF THIS WILL GO TO AN ELECTION IN MAY OR NOVEMBER.

SO IT COULD BE A VERY LONG PROCESS.

IF IT GETS PUT OFF TILL MAY, TILL NOVEMBER, THE CONVERSATION'S GONNA BE MUCH LONGER.

AND GO AHEAD.

UM, PATTY KLAP, WHO IS AS YOU KNOW, IS VERY ACTIVE IN ELECTIONS, SAID THAT IT IS GOING TO BE A JOINT ELECTION IN NOVEMBER.

OKAY.

WE HADN'T GIVEN, GIVEN FINAL NOTIFICATION, BUT SHE PROBABLY KNOWS BEFORE ANY OF THE REST OF US.

SHE, SHE DOES BEFORE ANY OF THE REST OF US.

YEAH.

WE KIND OF PLAN AROUND THAT .

SO ALL THAT MEANS IS THAT THIS CONVERSATION

[00:30:01]

IS GOING TO GO ON AND ON AND ON AND ON BECAUSE THEY'RE GONNA HAVE MORE TIME TO TALK ABOUT WHAT YEAH.

AND, AND I WOULD ADD TO THAT, PARK FOREST IS ENGAGED DONELLE WILLIS'S DISTRICT.

MM-HMM.

, SHE IS ABSOLUTELY ON BOARD WITH GETTING THAT LIBRARY BUILT AND WILL PERSONALLY ADVOCATE AND FIGHT FOR IT WITH THE CITY COUNCIL.

BUT SHE IS ONE VOTE AROUND THE HORSESHOE.

AND HER BIGGEST OBSTACLE IS CONVINCING OTHER CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS THAT HER COUNCIL DISTRICT DESERVES TWO LIBRARIES AND THEIR COUNCIL DISTRICT DESERVES NONE.

YEAH.

AND SO IT'S A BIG FIGHT FOR HER.

AND THE MO WE COULD REALLY HELP BY TALKING TO THE OTHER COUNCIL MEMBERS AND HELPING THEM SEE THAT THE LIBRARIES SERVE A LOT OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE THAT MAY NOT NECESSARILY LIVE IN THAT DISTRICT.

AND THERE'S A LOT OF, UM, THERE'S A LOT OF OTHER PROJECTS, A LOT OF NEEDY PROJECTS THAT ARE PART OF THIS, THIS WHOLE THING.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF COMPETITION.

YEAH.

CRITICAL FACILITIES INCLUDES LIKE FIRE STATIONS, POLICE STATIONS, THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO, AND ALL OF THE OFFICE, ALL OF THE OFFICE OF ARTS AND CULTURE BUILDINGS, ALL THE MUSEUMS AND THEATERS THAT NEED UPGRADING, ET CETERA.

SO IT'S A CHALLENGING AREA.

JOE, I I WASN'T SURE WHEN YOU SAID WHEN A BOND IS PASSED DOES SAY THE LIBRARY GET X AMOUNT OF MONEY AND THEN YOU CAN, YOU CAN PULL OFF THAT MOVE THAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT OR DOES THAT, SO HERE'S THE THING.

SO, YOU KNOW, THIS IS WHAT REALLY FRUSTRATES ME ABOUT MOST OF THESE DEALS IS THAT WE HAVE TO LINE ITEM VERY SPECIFIC PROJECTS OUT WITH VERY SPECIFIC DOLLARS.

UM, ONCE THE BOND GOES THROUGH, THOSE MONIES ARE ACTUALLY ASSIGNED TO THE LIBRARY.

AND IF WE FINISH THE PROJECTS THAT ARE ALIGNED, RIGHT, AND WE COME IN UNDER, AND THERE IS STILL MONEY AVAILABLE IN THAT ACCOUNT FOR LIBRARY, IT JUST HAS TO BE SPENT ON THE LIBRARY.

THAT MONEY CANNOT BE USED FOR ANOTHER PROJECT, LET'S SAY AN ARTS AND CULTURE PROJECT UNLESS CITY COUNCIL APPROVES IT.

SO YES, THAT'S THE LONG ANSWER TO YES, BUT WE HAVE TO FINISH THE PROJECTS THAT WERE VOTED ON FIRST AND THEN IF WE HAVE MONEY LEFT, BECAUSE THIS IS HOW WE BUILT, BUILT HIGHLAND HILLS WAY IN ADVANCE BECAUSE WE USED 2006 AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW, 1999 BOND MONEY.

LIKE WE SCRUBBED ALL THE BOND FUNDS, UM, GOING WAY BACK IN TIME AND WE'RE ABLE TO COBBLE ENOUGH MONEY TOGETHER TO BUILD HIGHLAND HILLS.

AND IT WASN'T EVEN ON OUR RADAR AT THAT POINT.

BUT, AND IT WAS AGAIN, COUNCIL MEMBER ATKINS ADVOCATING FOR, YOU KNOW, THOSE FUNDS TO BE RELEASED TO HIS DISTRICT, WHICH EVERYBODY AGREED TO THAT IT WAS HIGH NEED.

SO, SO YES, IT CAN HAPPEN IF WE DO HAVE MONEY LEFT.

HMM.

A QUESTION MIXED USE FOR NORTH OAK CLIFF.

MM-HMM.

OR PARK FORESTS, WHAT MIGHT THAT BE? WE DON'T KNOW.

IT WOULD GO OUT TO BID.

UM, WE WOULD WRITE THE SPECIFICATIONS.

UM, MY PREFERENCE WOULD BE MODERATE TO LOW INCOME HOUSING.

I DON'T KNOW, YOU KNOW, IF WE'LL GET THAT.

UM, I'M AGAINST ANY MORE RETAIL JUST BECAUSE AS YOU KNOW, BISHOP IS LADEN AND IT HAS EMPTY SPACES ALL UP AND DOWN THE ROAD.

SO, UM, THE ONE THING WE HAVE PROMISED THE COMMUNITY AND I WILL HOLD FAST TO IS GREEN SPACE.

THEY WANT A PARK, UM, A PLAYGROUND, NOT REALLY PARK, BUT PLAYGROUND'S PROBABLY A BETTER WORD.

THERE IS NO PLAY SPACE OUTSIDE OF ANY OF THE SCHOOLS IN THE AREA.

AND MANY OF THEM ARE LOCKED WHEN THE SCHOOL IS NOT IN SESSION.

UM, OR EVEN WHEN THE SCHOOL'S IN SESSION.

BUT, UM, SO THAT IS THE ONE ASK THAT WE'VE HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR FROM THE COMMUNITY IS WHETHER WHATEVER WAY THE LIBRARY COMES TO FRUITION IN THAT SPACE IS THEY WANT A PLAYGROUND.

SO, UM, WE'VE GOT A LOT OF OPTIONS IN THAT NEIGHBORHOOD BECAUSE THE, THE BUILDING NEXT DOOR TO US, SO THERE'S AN APP.

SO WE HAVE TWO THIRDS OF THE BLOCK AND THEN THERE'S AN ALLEY AND THEN THERE WAS, THERE'S A TWO THREE STORY OFFICE BUILDING THAT HAS BEEN VACANT FOR THREE AND A HALF YEARS.

THEY HAVE A LOT OF CODE VIOLATIONS AND THEIR, UM, CODE IS DEALING WITH THEM RIGHT NOW.

UM, AND SO THERE, THERE ARE SOME OPPORTUNITIES WITH MAYBE PARTNERING WITH THE PARKS DEPARTMENT 'CAUSE THEY ARE GETTING A WHOLE TON OF MONEY IN THIS.

IF IT GOES THROUGH THE WAY THEY WANT TO MAYBE PARTNER WITH PARKS FOR PARKS TO

[00:35:01]

PURCHASE SOME ADDITIONAL LAND NEXT TO OUR LOT, UM, AND WORK WITH US ON THIS PLAYGROUND.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF, UH, THERE'S A LOT OF POSSIBILITIES.

MM-HMM.

AND WE'RE ALREADY TALKING TO THE PARKS DEPARTMENT AND THEY'RE IN FAVOR.

SO, SO THERE ARE A LOT OF OPTIONS TO EXPLORE MOVING FORWARD, BUT WE WILL GET THE MOST FOR OUR MONEY.

THAT'S MY GOAL.

SURE.

THE MOST WITH THE LITTLE BIT OF MONEY .

SO, SO I HAVE A QUESTION.

UM, ON NOVEMBER, IS IT NOVEMBER THE NINTH THAT YOU'RE HAVING THE LISTENING SESSION IN ENGLISH? PEOPLE CAN PARTICIPATE ONLINE, YOU SAID OUR COME TO A BRANCH.

MM-HMM, ANY BRANCH, IT WILL BE ONLINE OR WILL ACTUALLY BE MEETINGS AT EACH BRANCH, SO NO, IT IS, IT WILL BE AVAILABLE ONLINE.

SO YOU CAN DIAL IN.

UM, AND I'LL LET KIRSTEN OR HEATHER WELCOMING OUR NEWEST, WELCOMING OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBER, UH, APPOINTED BY JANIE SCHULTZ.

BUT, UH, MAYBE, MAYBE OUR NEWEST BOARD MEMBER WILL JOIN US AT SOME POINT HERE IN A LITTLE BIT.

WE STILL HAVE VACANCIES, I BELIEVE FOR DISTRICTS 3, 5, 6, AND 12.

UM, AND I GUESS WE'LL START BY RECOGNIZING SPEAKERS.

AND WE HAVE NONE TODAY, SO WE NEED A MOTION TO APPROVE OUR SEPTEMBER MINUTES.

I MOVE.

WE HAVE A MOTION.

WE HAVE A SECOND.

SECOND.

WE HAVE A SECOND.

ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES.

AYE, ALL THE MINUTES ARE APPROVED SO WE CAN JUMP RIGHT INTO OUR REPORTS.

AND AT THE TIME THAT WE DISCUSSED IT, THAT IT, THAT IT WOULD GIVE US A CHANCE TO BE IN DIFFERENT SPACES AND HAVE A MORE FULL APPRECIATION FOR ALL THE DIFFERENT, UH, BRANCH BRANCH LIBRARIES AND THEIR PERSONALITIES AND THEIR UH, UM, SUPERSTAR STAFF.

UM, BUT WE FELT LIKE WE NEEDED TO COMMIT TO BEING IN PERSON BEFORE WE DID THAT.

OTHERWISE, IF WE'RE JUST GONNA DO REMOTE MEETINGS, UH, ESSENTIALLY IT DOESN'T REALLY SERVE ANY PURPOSE TO DO THAT.

SO, UH, THAT WAS GONNA BE MY TOPIC, BUT GIVEN WHERE WE ARE RIGHT NOW, I THINK I'M GONNA TABLE THAT AND MAYBE, MAYBE COME BACK TO THAT.

SO, UM, TOM, ARE YOU, ARE YOU LEADING THE MEETING AS THE VICE CHAIR OR WERE YOU APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR AS THE NEW CHAIR? SO TOM IS, IS OUR NEW CHAIR BECAUSE ANDREA RESIGNED AND WHEN, WHEN THE CHAIR RESIGNS, THE CO-CHAIR TAKES OVER.

OH, I SEE.

SO HE WAS OUR CO-CHAIR.

HE IS NOW OUR CHAIR AND WE HAVE NO CO-CHAIR.

SO WE WILL BE WAITING FOR THE MAYOR'S APPOINTMENT, UM, EITHER OF A NEW CHAIR.

SO HE WILL BE CHAIR UNTIL WE GET A NEW CHAIR OR HE APPOINTS A CO-CHAIR AND, AND THEN TOM BECOMES THE PERMANENT CHAIR.

WE'RE WAITING FOR THE MAYOR'S RESPONSE, SO.

GOT IT.

BUT ANDREA DID RESIGN IN, UM, IN A, IN AN EMAIL.

THANK YOU.

MM-HMM.

.

SO I'M SORRY IF NOT EVERYBODY KNEW THAT ANDREA , SHE DID TIME, BUT SHE, I KNEW HER TERM WAS, UM, EXPIRING, BUT THAT SHE WOULD SERVE AS CHAIR UNTIL SOMEONE ELSE WAS APPOINTED.

BUT I DID NOT .

SHE HAD THE, SHE SHE HAD THE OPTION.

WE GAVE HER THE OPTION.

'CAUSE SHE COULD STAY ODD AND, AND SHE MADE A PERSONAL DECISION NOT TO.

GOT IT.

THANK YOU.

YEAH.

WHO, WHO, WHO DID SHE SEND THE EMAIL TO?

SORRY, I'M LATE IN THE MORASS OF RED TAPE AND CITY HALL BUREAUCRACY.

YEAH.

BUT WE WILL CARRY ON .

AND SO STAN, ALL, ALL THAT YOU MISSED IS THAT ANDREA, UM, DID RESIGN AS CHAIR AND TOM AS CO-CHAIR STEPS IN AS OUR CHAIR UNTIL THE MAYOR APPOINTS AGAIN.

AND THAT'S WHERE WE ARE.

[00:40:02]

SO JOE, I'LL LET YOU INTRODUCE OUR, OUR PROGRAM FOR TODAY.

RIGHT.

SO, UM, OUR, LET ME SEE, OUR TITLES ARE ALL CHANGING.

SO, UM, OUR COM COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, SHANNON ADAMS, WE'RE IS GOING TO TALK ABOUT, UM, SENIOR PROGRAMMING.

BUT, UM, OUR PROGRAM PRIORITIES FOR SENIOR PROGRAMMING ARE, UM, TO JUST CREATE RECREATIONAL AND, UH, CULTURAL ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION INTERGENERATIONAL PROGRAMS. I'M NOT SURE IF YOU ALL CAN SEE MY SCREEN.

YOU MIGHT JUST BE SEEING .

OKAY.

BECAUSE JUST SEEING TALKED .

OKAY, WELL THEN I'LL JUST KEEP TALKING .

OKAY, NOW I'M SHARING.

SEEING YOUR, OKAY.

THERE IT IS.

THERE YOU GO.

YOU SEE THE, YOU SEE THE PRIORITIES.

YEAH.

AND WE SEE.

I JUST KIND OF WANTED TO SHOW YOU THAT WE ARE FOCUSING ON PRIORITY AREAS BECAUSE I DID LOOK AT, UM, THE PRO PROFILE OF DALLAS SENIORS, UM, IN THE AREA.

SO ALL OF THE DISTRICTS, AND THIS IS WHAT HELPED ME TO DETERMINE WHICH PRIORITY LOCATIONS WE WOULD HAVE THE MOST PROGRAMS. BUT WE PLAN ON HAVING PROGRAMS AT ALL OF OUR LOCATIONS FOR SENIORS.

UM, BECAUSE AGAIN, WE RECEIVED CITY FUNDING, SO WE WANNA TAKE FULL ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

SO THE PRIORITY LOCATIONS OF FOREST GREEN, HOLLAND HILLS, UH, NORTH OAK, CLIFF PARK, FOREST, POLK WISDOM AND WHITE ROCK.
