[Arts & Cultural Advisory Commission on February 15, 2024. ]
UH, WE ARE CALLING TO ORDER, UH, THE MEETING FOR THE ARTS CULTURE ADVISORY COMMISSION, UH, AT 4 36.AND, UH, AS WE CALL THIS TO ORDER, UM, I'M GONNA GIVE A, UH, A BRIEF ROADMAP OF WHAT WE'RE, UH, DOING TODAY.
UM, I THINK WE DO HAVE PUBLIC SPEAKERS ON THE LIST.
UH, WE HAVE FOUR VOTING ITEMS AND WE ARE PLEASED TO HAVE FOR OUR CULTURAL SPOTLIGHT.
UM, YOU KNOW, WOULD YOU LIKE TO INTRODUCE OUR SURE.
ARE ARE WE DOING THAT NOW? I JUST SAID NO, WE'RE NOT DOING IT NOW.
UM, SIVAN ALONSO IS HERE REPRESENTING OAK CLIFF COALITION, UH, OF THE ARTS.
AND, UH, SHE WILL GIVE US AN UPDATE AND OVERVIEW, UH, VERY SOON.
YOU KNOW, UM, AS A CHAIR REPORT, THIS IS GONNA BE VERY BRIEF.
UM, WE WANNA WELCOME, UH, THE NEW COMMISSIONERS, UM, AND WE ARE JUST YES, UM, AND GET UPDATES AS WELL FROM, UH, THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE, UH, AS WELL AS OUR HANDED IN OUR, UH, ANNUAL REPORT.
AND WE'LL HAVE JIM, UH, COMMENT ON THAT.
UH, BUT AS WE GET STARTED, OUR VERY FIRST VOTING AGENDA ITEM IS THE APPROVAL, UH, OF THE MINUTES, UH, FROM JANUARY 18TH.
SO, UH, HAS EVERYONE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THOSE? HAS EVERYONE HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK AT THE JANUARY 18TH MINUTE? UH, WE DO HAVE A NECESSARY CORRECTION AS IT RELATES TO OUR VOTING FOR THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE.
UM, AND WHEN WE LOOK AT THAT LANGUAGE, WE JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT, UH, FOR THE RESIDENT MEMBERS, SIX OF THE RESIDENT MEMBERS WHO VOTED IN, UM, FOUR ATTORNEY AND WE ARE HOLDING TWO, UH, FOR DISCUSSION, UH, AND RECOMMENDATION BY THE DIRECTOR TODAY.
SO, GLEN, DO YOU HAVE ANY, UH, SUGGESTED, PROPOSED LANGUAGE TO CLARIFY THAT FOR US? SORT OF
UM, SO WHEN WE SUBMIT THESE MINUTES AS IF YOU WOULD CHOOSE TO DO AN AMENDMENT AS SUCH, I WILL BE ABLE TO REFLECT THAT IN THESE MINUTES TO THEN SUBMIT THOSE TO THE CITY SECRETARY AS AMENDED TO REFLECT CORRECTLY WHAT'S GOING ON.
SO, AND, UH, AND I WOULD INVITE ANY COMMISSIONER IF WE DISCUSS THIS 'CAUSE IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT WE GET IT ABSOLUTELY CORRECT.
UH, MY RECOLLECTION, JIM NUGENT MADE THE MOTION, INITIALLY THE MOTION WAS FOR, UH, THE ENTIRE LIST THAT WE HAD FOR US.
UM, AND THEN WE HAD DISCUSSION ON TWO NAMES.
HE AMENDED HIS MOTION, UH, TO HOLD BACK ON THOSE TWO NAMES AND WE MOVE FORWARD ON THE FOUR RETURNING PLUS THE OTHER TWO NEW NAMES, UH, ASIDE FROM THE ONES THAT WE LEFT OFF.
IS THAT CORRECT? YES, CORRECT.
IS THAT ENOUGH INFORMATION, GLEN? YES.
SO I WOULD, MY RECOMMENDATION WOULD THEN BE THE MOTION AS THIS HAS ALL JUST BEEN DISCUSSED, TO THEN APPROVE THOSE MINUTES IF IT'S APPROPRIATE.
I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE THE MINUTES AS AMENDED PURSUANT TO THIS DISCUSSION WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT, UM, GLEN AYERS OF THE OAC STAFF IS GOING TO GO BACK AND, UM, AMEND THE LANGUAGE BEFORE IT GOES ON TO THE CITY SECRETARY'S OFFICE TO ACCURATELY REFLECT OUR DISCUSSIONS AND WHAT HAPPENED, UM, AND USE WHATEVER RESOURCES HE NEEDS TO USE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE REPORT CORRECTLY HOW WE VOTE.
ALL OPPOSED? ALRIGHT, GLEN, SO GRACIOUS.
UH, THE SECOND, UH, VOTING ITEM, UH, WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM RECTOR REGARDING THE REMAINING TWO RESIDENT PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE
[00:05:01]
NOMINATIONS AND APPOINTMENTS, UH, FOR TERM ENDING IN SEPTEMBER 30TH, 2024.ALRIGHT, UH, I WANNA FIRST THANK EVERYONE, UM, FOR YOUR GRACE.
AS A FOLLOW UP TO OUR MEETING LAST MONTH, WE HAD A BIT OF LEARNING TO DO ACROSS STAFF AND WE PUT THE TIME TO DO DUE DILIGENCE AS IT RELATES TO THE PUBLIC PARK COMMITTEE'S POLICY AND PROTOCOL AS IT RELATES TO, UH, HOW WE ARE TO NOMINATE ATTORNEY AND NEW RESIDENT MEMBERS OF SENATE COMMITTEE.
AND SO YOU'LL SEE THAT REFLECTED, UM, IN OUR BRIEFING DECK FOR OUR MEETING TODAY.
UH, FOLLOWING SEAT
THE RELATED TEMPLATE IS NOTED AND YOU'LL SEE THAT NUMBER OF NOMINEES AND THE END OF THEIR TERM DATE FOR WHICH YOU VOTE ARE NOTED ON THAT TEMPLATE.
AND WE'LL DO THIS MONTH I'LL BE READING TWO NAMES ALL, UM, AND, UM, WITH ALL DUE RESPECT, I CAN SHARE JUST A SHORT BIT OF INFORMATION THAT INCLUDES THE RESIDENT MEMBER ZIP CODE, UM, SO THAT YOU'RE AWARE AND OF COURSE THEIR NAME.
SO I WILL, I CAN PAUSE YES, IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS OR I CAN JUST GOING FORWARD.
SO TWO NAMES, UH, FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION ARE CASSANDRA PORTER, ZIP CODE 7 5 2 2 6 AND HASSANI ER ZIP CODE 7 5 2 2 5 OH, EXCUSE ME.
DID YOU STAY ASANI? ANI BERT, YOUR SECOND NAME? HMM.
COMMISSIONER MEEK HAD A QUESTION? NO.
UM, AND ARE THESE YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS, DIRECTOR? YES, SIR.
WERE THESE THE SAME NAMES YOU RECOMMENDED LAST MONTH? ONE NAME HAS CHANGED SINCE LAST MONTH.
COULD YOU GIMME THOSE NAMES ONE MORE TIME? SORRY.
PORTER HASSANI BURTON KANI ONE S-K-N-I-T-B-R-T KANI TWO S IS A ND RT.
AND THESE ARE YOUR RECOMMENDATIONS? YES, SIR.
THAT OUTLINED AS NEW AND THE REQUIREMENTS RELATED TO MORE DISCUSSION? YES.
DIRECTOR, CAN YOU, CAN YOU TELL US JUST A SENTENCE OR TWO, LIKE, CAN WE KNOW JUST A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEM? ARE THEY ARTIST OR COMMUNITY MEMBER? WELL, MS. CASANDRA PORTER IS, UM, AN ARTIST AND ALSO HAS SOME PROFESSIONAL ACUMEN AS IT RELATES TO, RELATED TO PUBLIC ART.
AND MR. BURTON IS A BUSINESS OWNER IN SUNNY SOUTH DALLAS WITH INTEREST AND SUPPORT, DEMONSTRATED SUPPORT IN, YOU KNOW, PUBLIC ART AND TEMPORARY PUBLIC ART
CAN I ALSO ADD, 'CAUSE STOCKPORT IS ALSO A COLLECTOR.
ANY, ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? IS THIS THE SAME AS HASANI, RIGHT? FOR OFFICE IT AT ONE POINT? YES.
ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? IF NOT, UH, CAN WE GET A MOTION? JUST THE, OH, SORRY, SORRY, JUST A PROCEDURAL QUESTION.
MM-HMM,
UM, IS THIS HOW IT'S GOING TO BE DONE MOVING FORWARD? IS THIS, CAN WE GET, CAN WE GET A BETTER, LIKE, SPEND A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME WHEN WE GET TO THE OVERALL DISCUSSION ABOUT PUBLIC ART, WHICH IS ONE OF OUR GOALS IN THE ANNUAL REPORT? I'M NOT SAYING TODAY, I'M JUST SAYING CAN WE INCLUDE THIS SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE WE UNDERSTAND? YES.
UM, IF THERE'S NO FURTHER DISCUSSION, CAN WE GET A MOTION? I MOVE THAT SECOND
SO FOR THE RECORD, SO COMMISSIONER MEEK HAS MOVED TO MOVE THE RECOMMENDATIONS FROM THE DIRECTOR AND, UH, COMMISSIONER OMO HAS, UH, SECONDED.
UH, WE HAVE A THIRD VOTING AGENDA ITEM, UH, RECOMMENDATION AND SUPPORT OF CALCIUM PROJECT AS THE LEAD ARTIST FOR WATERSHED FLOODGATES PUBLIC ART PROJECT LOCATED IN COUNCIL DISTRICT NUMBER SEVEN.
SO, UH, LYNN, I BELIEVE YOU WOULD BRIEF
[00:10:01]
US ON THAT.UH, I WAS JUST CURIOUS, DID YOU SAY WE DID HAVE PUBLIC SPEAKERS AND ARE WE GOING OUT OF ORDER OR NOT? PUBLIC SPEAKER? NO, WE DID NOT.
SO I'M GONNA, YES, WE'RE READY ON, UH, SO WE HAVE, UH, ONE VOTING ITEM THAT CAME FROM THE PUBLIC WATERSHED.
UM, IT, THE CALCIUM PROJECTS IS ABOR OF ARTISTS WHO HAVE DEEP ROOTS IN THAT AREA AND VOTED BY THE SELECTION PANEL.
WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON THE SECOND PAGE ARE JUST SOME CONCEPT ACTUAL DESIGN.
MR. CHAIR, I'M SORRY TO INTERRUPT.
WE CAN'T HEAR WHAT SHE'S SAYING ONLINE.
WE TO HAVE, CAN YOU HAVE A SEAT? YOU SIT? YES.
OH, IT IS ALSO BECAUSE WE, WE WERE ON MUTE.
SO IF YOU WILL LOOK AT, UM, THE FIRST PAGE OF YOUR PACKET FOR THIS, UM, ELECTION ITEM.
IT IS, WE ARE BRINGING FORWARD THIS WATERSHED GATES PROJECT.
THERE ARE TWO LOCATIONS ON BAYER STREET OR AROUND BAYER STREET FOR THESE FLOOD GATES.
THE SELECTION PANELS, UM, CHOSE HOUSING PROJECT TO MOVE
SO YOU CAN SEE THE CON CONCEPTS ON PAGE NINE, I BELIEVE YOUR PACKET.
ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS PROJECT? DO YOU HAVE A RECOMMENDATION? I DON'T, I, I JUST AGREE.
OH, SOMEONE MAKES SOME RECOMMENDATION.
IF I COULD, UH, ASK A QUESTION.
UM, WITH RESPECT TO THIS PARTICULAR ARTS GROUP AND THESE RENDERINGS THAT ARE BEING SHARED WITH US, ARE THESE PROPOSED DESIGNS OR FINAL DESIGNS AND IF THE VOTE TO PROCEED WITH CALCIUM PROJECTS, IS IT TO PROCEED IN, UH, A PRODUCTION PROCESS OR, UH, INITIATING THEM INTO THESE DESIGNS? SO IS THIS A SORT OF A FINALIZATION ON THE PRODUCTION OF THESE RENDERINGS BEGINNING? SO THESE, THESE RENDERINGS ARE REALLY JUST CONCEPTS.
SO YOU COULD, SO WE COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT THE GATES LOOK LIKE AND HOW WE'RE IMAGINING THE ARTWORK TO BE ON THEM.
THESE DESIGNS WERE CREATED, OR CONCEPTS WERE CREATED BY CALCIUM PROJECTS AND WERE PRESENTED, WE WILL MOVE TO, SO THIS WHAT WE'RE ASKING IS TO APPROVE THE CALCIUM PROJECTS AS THE ARTISTS THAT WILL MOVE FORWARD INTO THE DESIGN PHASE OF THIS PROJECT.
JUST BASED ON HOW THESE THINGS HAVE GONE IN THE PAST.
SO THIS ITEM'S ALREADY BEEN IN FRONT OF YOUR ARC COMMITTEE IN THE YES.
IN THE FEBRUARY MEETING OR WHATEVER.
AND IT'S THE A COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION THAT THIS PRO PROJECT BE APPROVED AS IT'S BEING BROUGHT FORWARD TO US.
IN THAT CASE, UM, WE'RE FINISHED WITH DISCUSSION.
I'D LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION THAT WE APPROVE VOTING ITEM NUMBER THREE.
WE HAVE A QUEST HAD A QUESTION.
I JUST WANTED TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT CALCIUM PROJECTS.
IS THAT THE NAME OF THE COMPANY? SO IT'S THE NAME OF A CONSORTIUM OF ARTISTS.
THERE ARE TWO OR THREE ARTISTS THAT HAVE, UM, COME TOGETHER TO WORK ON IN THIS AREA.
UM, ONE OF THEM IS A POET THAT
I, UM, THAT WORKED IN SOUTH DALLAS AS A POET AND AS AN ARTIST.
SHE'S ONE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE TEAM.
THE OTHERS HAVE DONE WORK IN THIS AREA IN SOUTH SOUTH DALLAS AS ARTISTS AND, AND DONE DEEP COMMUNITY WORK.
AND ONE OF THE THINGS THEY'RE MOST EXCITED ABOUT IS CONTINUING THEIR COMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS TO HELP THEM MOVE FORWARD WITH THEIR DESIGNS.
[00:15:01]
HOW DID YOU COME, HOW DID THEY COME TO US? SO WHEN, SO THE PUBLIC ART PROCESS, UM, WORKS IS THERE IS A CALL FOR ARTISTS OKAY.AND SO THEN, UM, YOU KNOW, OUR TEAM WILL LOOK AT ALL THE CONTENT OF THE ARTISTS WHO HAVE, AND I THINK THIS CALL HAD LIKE 80 ARTISTS WHO HAD SUBMITTED.
IT GOES THROUGH A SELECTION PANEL PROCESS WHERE MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY VOTE ON, UM, THE ARTISTS THAT ARE GOING TO MOVE FORWARD.
WHEN YOU GET TO THAT PHASE, USUALLY SEVERAL ARTISTS WILL PRESENT THEIR CONCEPTS FOR THIS.
SO THREE ARTISTS PRESENTED PROJECTS TO THAT SELECTION PANEL AND THEN, UM, THAT PANEL SHOWS CALCIUM PROJECTS FROM THAT SECOND, UH, REVIEW OF THE ARTWORK.
IS THAT, IS THAT HELP? YEAH, THAT'S A GREAT VETTING PROCESS.
SO WE PUT THE PUBLIC IN PUBLIC ART FOR SURE.
SO, UM, COULD, COULD WE KNOW THE ARTIST'S NAMES? YEAH, THAT WAS GONNA BE MY QUESTION.
I DON'T HAVE THEM IN OUR PACKET, BUT I WILL GET THE, UM, I HAVE THEM AT MY DESK OR AT MY, ON MY COMPUTER.
THEY DON'T HAVE MUCH OF AN ONLINE PRESENCE, WHICH IS WHAT I'M ASKING.
WELL, I THINK THEY PULLED THEMSELVES TOGETHER FOR THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT.
SO LET ME GO GRAB THEIR NAMES.
DO WE NEED TO POSTPONE, SUSPEND, WAIT ON OUR MOTIONS? AND I THINK WE'RE IN THE DISCUSSION PHASE.
WE'LL PROCEED TO A VOTE NEXT, CORRECT CHAIR? YES.
WE'RE TRYING TO GET A QUESTION ANSWERED.
CAN, UH, IS EVERYBODY PREPARED TO VOTE PENDING THE NAME OF THE ARTIST? OR DO WE, DOES ANYONE NEED THAT INFORMATION? JUST ANY DISCUSSION OTHER THAN THAT? NO.
I DON'T THINK PEOPLE RECOGNIZE THAT THE PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE HAS DONE THE VETTING.
BUT I, I ALSO WANTED TO ASK THE QUESTION ABOUT HOW IT WORKS.
SO YEAH, I'M JUST SAYING THAT, THAT THAT SHOULD, YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY THAT IS NEW NEEDS TO KNOW THAT THERE'S A PUBLIC ART COMMITTEE THAT HAS COMMISSIONERS ON IT AND THAT WE VET THESE ARTISTS AND THEIR PROJECTS AND ALL OF THAT BEFORE IT GETS TO US AT THE, AT THE BIG MEETING.
I JUST WANNA, I JUST WANNA THROW THIS OUT THERE AS WELL.
UH, AND FOR ALL OF THE COMMISSIONERS, UH, IF YOU HAVE A CHANCE TO ATTEND ONE OF THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS, IT, IT'S REALLY INSIGHTFUL AND, AND GIVES YOU A, A GOOD FEELING ABOUT ALL THE WORK THAT'S BEING DONE, UH, WITH THIS COMMISSION.
I WAS JUST GONNA, UM, GO BACK TO MY EARLIER COMMENT ON ANOTHER VOTING ITEM.
FOR THE PUBLIC ARTS DISCUSSION, THE, THE WORKSHOP TUTORIAL, WHATEVER YOU WANNA CALL IT, THE OVERVIEW.
UM, AND THEN MAYBE MIGHT WANNA REFRESH THE, THE RULES ON HOW WE ARE TO BE ACKNOWLEDGED, EITHER BY HAND RAISING ONLINE OR RAISING OUR HAND OR WHATEVER.
JUST FOR THE NEWBIES, MAYBE BECAUSE I BELIEVE COMMISSIONER NUGENT WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF SPEAKING OR ASKING A QUESTION AND HE WAS INTERRUPTED.
WE HAVE A QUESTION TO BE ANSWERED IN TERMS OF NAMES AND THEN WE WILL GET TO, UH, COMMISSIONER NEWTON'S COMMENT.
SO THE, UM, ARTISTS AS LAURA NEIL AND SV RANDALL AND HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF PART THEIR PROPOSAL.
NO, I, I WITHDREW THE QUESTION, SO, OKAY.
IT SAYS INITIATED, UH, JANUARY 11TH, 2022 AND WE'RE JUST NOW GETTING IT.
SO, SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL SEE WHAT PHASE OF THE PROJECT, WELL, YOU ARE ON THE PUBLIC ART, WHERE WE ARE ON THE PROJECT AND WHEN THINGS WERE INITIATED.
SO THIS IS ACTUALLY KIND OF A NEW PROJECT FOR US BECAUSE WE'RE WORKING WITH THE WATER.
SO THERE WAS A LOT OF DISCUSSION ABOUT WHAT CAN GO ON THOSE BIG GATES, YOU KNOW, WHAT KIND OF MATERIAL IS GOING TO LAST, COULD BE DURABLE BECAUSE THESE ARE BOND DOLLARS THAT WE'RE USING.
SO WE KIND, I THINK WE KIND OF SETTLED ON MARINE GRADE PAINT.
AND, UM, SO THAT COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PIECE AND WHAT MATERIALS WOULD WATER LIKE TO SEE USED DID GIVE US A LITTLE BIT OF A TIMELINE.
TWO YEAR ONE SOUNDS LIKE A LONG TIME, BUT YEAH.
[00:20:01]
NO MORE DISCUSSION, WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.UH, ALL IN FAVOR? ALL OPPOSED PASSES IN SUPPORT OF CALCIUM PROJECT AS THE LEAD ARTIST FOR THE WATERSHED FLOODGATES PUBLIC ART PROJECT LOCATED IN COUNCIL
UH, THE NEXT VOTING ITEM, WE'RE GOING TO GET A RECOMMENDATION AND SUPPORT OF FISCAL YEAR 24, 25 CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS PROGRAM GUIDELINES.
SO THAT'S TYPICALLY WHAT WE DO.
UM, SO YOU HAVE, UH, YOU HAVE A QUESTION.
UM, IS IT CULTURAL SPOTLIGHT DONE BEFORE ALL? YOU KNOW WHAT? I'M GOING BY THE AGENDA.
I WAS GOING THROUGH THE POWERPOINT, I SORRY, AGENDA.
YEAH, I KNOW, BUT I WAS GOING BY THIS AND I DIDN'T REALIZE THAT THEY NEEDED TO STAY ALL THIS, SO I JUST BE BRIEF.
UM, SO YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU VOTING AGENDA ITEM NUMBER FOUR, WHICH AS THE CHAIR OF THE ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE, I AM EXCITED TO BRING IN FRONT OF YOU.
UM, JUST TO COMMISSIONER MEEK'S POINT, OUR ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE DOES SOMETHING QUITE SIMILAR TO THE ARTS COMMITTEE.
SO FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO THIS IS YOUR FIRST MEETING, WE HAVE A VETTING PROCESS WHEN WE FUND ARTISTS AND WE HAVE A LONG PROCESS WHEN WE RECOMMEND GUIDELINES.
THE CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS PROGRAM IS THE PART OF THE CITY'S FUNDING PROGRAM THAT PROVIDES OPERATING FUNDS TO VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS THROUGHOUT THE CITY WITH BUDGETS RANGING FROM A HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLARS TO, I CANNOT REMEMBER HOW MANY MILLIONS, BUT IN EXCESS OF 20.
UM, SO, UM, I AM NOT GOING TO READ YOUR VOTING AGENDA ITEM, BUT THAT IS ANOTHER THING FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE NEW, THE CITY PUTS TOGETHER FOR US IN OUR PACKET EACH TIME ARE ALL OF THE DETAILS OF WHAT WE'RE VOTING ON.
SO IF YOU HAVE ANY SPECIFIC QUESTIONS, I'M NOT GONNA READ THIS PAGE IN A HALF, I'M GONNA ASSUME EVERYBODY HAS IT.
YOU ALSO HAVE A COPY OF THE CULTURAL ORGANIZATION PROGRAM GUIDELINES THAT WERE PROVIDED IN YOUR PACKET THAT ARE EXCELLENT.
UH, STAFF ON THE FUNDING SIDE OF THINGS HAS PUT TOGETHER FOR YOU WHERE YOU CAN SEE THE CHANGES IN GLUE.
SOME OF THEM ARE JUST TO MAKE THE GUIDELINES READ EASIER, BUT THE REALLY BIG ONES THAT YOU WILL SEE THIS YEAR ARE ALL DONE WITH AN EYE TOWARDS EQUITY.
EACH YEAR WE LOOK AND AS WE'RE GOING THROUGH OUR FUNDING RECOMMENDATIONS AND SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT HAVE, THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE GUIDELINES THAT'S CREATING AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE.
AND SO ONE OF THE BIG CHANGES YOU'LL SEE THIS YEAR IS ADDING A SIX TIER AND BREAKING UP TIERS FOUR, FIVE, AND SIX SO THAT WE ARE NOT, UM, TRYING TO EXAMINE FUNDING FOR ORGANIZATIONS BETWEEN 1 MILLION AND OVER 10 MILLION BECAUSE THEY HAVE VERY DIFFERENT NEEDS.
WE DID SOMETHING VERY SIMILAR LAST YEAR.
ON THE LOW END, WE BROKE DOWN THE TO 500 INTO TWO TIERS.
AND WE FOUND DURING THE FUNDING PROCESS, THAT WAS REALLY HELPFUL IN US BEING ABLE TO GET MORE MONEY IN THE HANDS OF NEW AND SMALL ORGANIZATIONS.
UH, AND IT HELPED US WITH OUR SCORING SYSTEMS. UM, I DON'T WANNA TAKE TOO MUCH OF YOUR TIME, BUT, UH, IF YOU'D LIKE TO COME TO AN ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE MEETING, WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU THERE.
OUR STAFF HAS BEEN WORKING VERY HARD ON, WHILE IT'S NOT A COMPLETE FORMULA, THEY ARE WORKING ON SOME FORMULAS THAT KIND OF MAKE SENSE, THAT ANSWER QUESTIONS, UH, AS TO WHY ONE ORGANIZATION GETS A PER PARTICULAR AMOUNT OF MONEY AND ANOTHER GETS A DIFFERENT AMOUNT.
AND THESE TIERS HELP A LOT, UM, BECAUSE YOU'LL SEE IN THE HIGHEST TIER WITH AN ORGANIZATION WITH A BUDGET IN EXCESS OF, OF $10 MILLION, WE'RE FUNDING THEM AT ABOUT 1%.
WHERE AT THE BOTTOM LAYER WE MIGHT BE PROVIDING 15 TO 20, EVEN 25% OF A HUNDRED THOUSAND ORGANIZATION.
SO IT'S JUST A SHORT EXPLANATION OF WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO.
UM, MOST OF THE, UM, ONE OF THE OTHER IMPORTANT THINGS IS WE ARE ASKING OUR COP ORGANIZATIONS TO COME TO THE TABLE WITH VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US WITH THE VETTING PANELS, THE JUDGING PANELS.
THAT IS AN, UM, HUGE, UM, UNDERTAKING EVERY YEAR.
AND SO WE'RE ASKING THEM TO HAVE SOME OWNERSHIP.
EVERYTHING ELSE KIND OF, UM, CLARIFIES THE PROCESS AND HELPS THE ORGANIZATIONS KNOW WHAT THE STAFF IS EXPECTING.
UH, SO WITH THAT SAID, AFTER A, A COUPLE OF REALLY, UM, ROLL UP OUR ELBOW SLEEVES MEETINGS, THE ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE VOTED IN FEBRUARY, UM, TO RECOMMEND THESE AMENDED GUIDELINES AS THEY'RE PRESENTED TO YOU, AND THAT RECOMMENDATION CAME UNANIMOUSLY.
UH, I'M HAPPY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS.
UM, AND I HOPE THAT ONE OF MY COMMITTEE MEMBERS WILL MAKE A MOTION.
DO YOU GUYS HAVE YOUR RECOMMENDATION? I'M SORRY,
NO, I WAS GONNA, OUR RECOMMENDATION IS THAT THESE GUIDELINES BE ACCEPTED AS PRESENTED AND
[00:25:01]
I SECOND MOTION ANY DISCUSSION IF THERE'S NO DISCUSSION, I JUST WANNA MAKE ONE COMMENT.I JUST WANNA SAY THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS ALSO, YOU DIDN'T MENTION IT, BUT IT'S ALSO BRILLIANT THE WAY THAT YOU, UM, UH, HERE WHERE IT IS AWARDED THE PROBATIONARY ELEMENT FOR ORGANIZATION.
IT WAS SMALL AND MIGHT HAVE DROPPED DOWN A LITTLE BIT AND IT GIVES THEM A YEAR TO GET BACK.
AND THAT'S A, THAT'S REVOLUTIONARY FOR THIS.
WE ACTUALLY HAD AN ORGANIZATION THAT DROPPED DOWN TO LIKE 98,000 AND IT WAS THEIR FIRST YEAR OF THE PROGRAM.
SO THEY WEREN'T HIGH ENOUGH THAT WAS A LEADER.
THEY WERE HIGH ENOUGH AND THEN THEY DROPPED DOWN.
AND YOU GUYS, THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE BEEN HERE A WHILE MAY REMEMBER WE HAD ALL THESE SPECIAL MOTIONS THAT WE HAD TO HAVE THAT HAD TO GET PASSED HERE, THEN THEY HAD TO GO TO QAC, THEN THEY HAD TO GO TO THE CITY COUNCIL.
SO THANK YOU FOR MENTIONING THAT.
UH, WE HAVE A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? WHO MADE THE FIRST, I MADE, I MADE A MOTION RECOMMENDATION.
WHO MADE A MOTION? I MADE THE SECOND.
IS THAT, IS THAT
BUT YOU PUT TO WITHDRAW SO YOU CAN MAKE THE MOTION.
I, NO, LIKE I SAID THE PROCEDURAL QUESTION SO THAT I CAN LEARN.
ANY OTHER DISCUSSION? MOTION IN A, I'M SORRY.
WE'VE GOT A MOTION AND A SECOND.
ALL OPPOSED? ANY RECOMMENDATION? ASK CHAIR.
MAY I JUST SAY, I'D LIKE TO, UM, DO A SHOUT UP TO MY ENTIRE ALLOCATIONS COMMITTEE.
THE, UM, THE COP AND ALSO A SHOUT UP TO THE ENTIRE STAFF.
GLEN, JULIAN, THE ONLY TWO LEFT STANDING RIGHT NOW,
BUT THIS IS, UM, YOU CANNOT IMAGINE THE AMOUNT OF WORK THAT GOES INTO THIS PROJECT BEFORE IT EVEN COMES TO US.
AND WE USUALLY HAVE TO HAVE A COUPLE OF PRETTY LONG MEETINGS THAT EVERYBODY, THAT COMMITTEE'S REALLY ACTIVE AND EVERYBODY'S SPEAKING UP.
IT'S WHAT GIVES US SUCH A GOOD DOCUMENT.
BUT THANK YOU FOR INDULGING ME.
UM, AS WE MOVE DOWN THE AGENDA.
SO NOW WE ARE AT THE POINT OF OUR CULTURAL SPOTLIGHT, AND I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO COMMISSIONER, UH, AUGUSTINE
UM, SOME OF YOU MAY KNOW, UH, S ALONSO AS A WRITER OR AS AN EDITOR, UM, OR AS THE PRODUCER OF THE, UH, OAK CLIFF CINCO DE MAYO PARADE, ONE OF THE LARGEST PARADES IN IN OUR AREA.
UM, I ACTUALLY MET HER WHEN I WAS SERVING AS A PANELIST, UM, TO REVIEW HER GRANT.
I BELIEVE YOU WERE DOING THE, THE, WAS IT THE CHATBOOKS? UM, AND SO THAT'S WHEN I REALLY, REALLY GOT TO MEET HER.
YOU CAN'T MENTION SILVANO WITHOUT MENTIONING HER HUSBAND WHO HAD DONE DECADES OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF TEXAS FOR THE DALLAS CONSTITUENTS IN HOUSE DISTRICT 1 0 4.
AND SO I WAS REALLY THRILLED WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO, UM, JUST RECOMMEND, UM, THAT OAK CLIFF COALITION OF THE ARTS BE A SPOTLIGHT ARTS ORGANIZATION.
SAVANNAH ALONSO HAS DONE A LOT OF WORK FOR THE COMMUNITY AND SHE'S, UH, BEEN A RECIPIENT OF SEVERAL OF THE ARTS GRANTS.
SO IT IS WITH GREAT PLEASURE, JOY, FOR ME TO INTRODUCE SAVANNAH ALONSO, COULD YOU PLEASE TAKE THE, HERE I AM REALLY, REALLY HAPPY TO BE HERE.
UM, LAST TIME I WAS BEFORE, UM, THE OAC WAS, UM, BEFORE A PANEL SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
SHOULD I CONTINUE? PLEASE? I DO HAVE NOTES 'CAUSE I'M VERY NERVOUS.
UM, WELL, I WANTED TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT, UH, MYSELF, WHICH I SEE, UH, THE FRUIT OF MY LABOR AS BEING A BIG PART OF ME.
AND I'LL JUST BASICALLY TALK ABOUT, UH, THE OAK CLIFF COALITION FOR THE ARTS.
WE'VE CHANGED OUR NAME, IT'S
SO, UM, I, UM,
WE WERE SEEKING EQUITY AND FUNDING.
SO, UH, AND THAT WAS REALLY SPARKED ON, UM, BECAUSE WE WERE HAVING A DEBATE ABOUT A LATINO CULTURAL CENTER.
SO WE BECAME VERY INVOLVED AND I MEAN, IT WAS LIKE A HUNDRED PEOPLE OR MORE.
SO I, I WAS SHOCKED THAT THERE WAS SO MANY PEOPLE THAT SHOWED UP AT OUR MEETINGS.
WE DID RECEIVE A LEAD GRANT AND, UH, WE WERE,
[00:30:01]
UH, HOUSED AT THE ICE HOUSE CULTURAL CENTER.WE HAVEN'T, UM, YOU KNOW, I'M SORRY.
WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED ANY FUNDS FROM THE OAC SINCE THEN.
UH, WE ARE SO SUCCESSFUL WITH CINCO DE MAYA.
WE'VE RAISED SO MUCH MONEY THAT HE CAN
WE, WE, WE TURNED AROUND AND PUT THAT MONEY INTO OUR PROGRAMS, AND IT WASN'T UNTIL AFTER THE PANDEMIC THAT WE'RE STILL STRUGGLING TO, YOU KNOW, REACH, UH, OUR FUNDRAISING EFFORTS.
UH, SO WE'RE, WE'RE TRYING TO, WE'RE STILL COMING BACK, BUT, UH, YOU KNOW, I KNOW SOME PEOPLE WON'T LIKE THIS, BUT THEY'RE IN THE ROOM.
BUT THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER, I MEAN, REALLY WAS WONDERFUL TO OUR ORGANIZATION.
WE TOOK ON THE RESPONSIBILITY OF FIESTA PATRIA HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH, AND, UH, THEY FUNDED.
BUT, YOU KNOW, WE PUT OUR MONEY BACK AND WE ALWAYS GO BIG.
AND THAT'S ONE OF OUR BIGGEST FAULTS.
BUT GOING BACK TO, UM, MAYO AND HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH ARE TWO OF OUR FLAGSHIP, UH, EVENTS.
AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT
UM, WE PICKED UP WHERE LITTLE MEXICO LITAL.
UM, IN FACT, FOR THREE YEARS THERE WAS NO
WE WERE SO HAPPY TO BE ASKED AND WE'RE LIKE, LET'S DO IT.
UM, YOU KNOW, THINGS ARE CHANGING.
WE'RE, UM, OUR PROGRAMS HAVE CHANGED.
WE ARE FOCUSED ON FOCUSING ON LITERATURE, AND THIS IS WHERE THE CHAPTERS COME IN.
AND, UH, THIS OUR BIGGEST SUPPORTER OF THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER.
LET ME GIVE YOU SOME, UH, SUCCESSFUL STATS.
UM, AT LEAST 38 WRITERS HAVE, UH, PARTICIPATED.
WE HAVE PUBLISHED 40 CHATBOOKS INDIVIDUAL CHATBOOKS AND ABOUT FOUR OR FIVE ANTHOLOGY CHATBOOKS AND, UH, ONE, UM, SOFT COVER BOOK THROUGH FLOTO PRESS.
AND, UM, THAT WAS A HIGHLIGHT FOR AMONG MANY OF US.
WE REALLY HAVE DONE, UH, WORKSHOPS, BUT NOT AT A REGULAR BASIS LIKE WE HAD IN THE PAST.
OH, AND, AND THE BIGGEST, BIGGEST HIGHLIGHT IS THAT WE, UM, WE HAVE PUBLISHED OVER 100 NEW WORKS, BECAUSE THAT'S ONE OF OUR REQUIREMENTS.
WE CAN'T DO, UH, PUBLISH THEIR FAVORITE POEM OVER AND OVER AGAIN, EVEN THOUGH IT'S AWESOME.
SO WE'VE PUBLISHED A HUNDRED NEW WORKS AND, YOU KNOW, IT CAME TO UP TO QUESTION, WE'RE LIKE, NO, WE'RE ABOUT WRITING AND PUBLISHING AND, AND WE HAVE TO, UM, INSTILL IN THESE WRITERS THAT, YOU KNOW, CHALLENGE THEM.
UM, WHAT ARE WE INTO NOW? UM, BECAUSE WE, UH, SOME OF OUR MEMBERS ARE REALLY, UM, EXPERTS IN CERTAIN AND PASSIONATE ABOUT CERTAIN, UM, FIELDS, UM, LIKE RECOVERING OUR LITERATURE, UH, IN BOOKS.
SO WE'VE ADDED, UM, THE
ONCE UPON A TIME, THERE WAS LIKE 10 SPANISH NEWSPAPERS IN DALLAS.
AND, UH, THERE'S ABOUT TWO TO FOUR NOW.
AND, UH, ONE OF 'EM USED TO PUBLISH VERITAS.
WELL, YOU KNOW, THEY FOLDED AND, AND THAT DISAPPEARED.
AND, YOU KNOW, WE ARE VERY HAPPY TO BRING IT BACK, UM, AT THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER AS AND AT STA F STATE FAIR.
AND, UM, YOU KNOW, IT'S ALWAYS BEEN THE CITY OF DALLAS THAT HAVE COME TO, UM, OUR BIGGEST SUPPORTERS.
I STARTED OFF AT THE BATHHOUSE IN 1994 AS A WANNABE POET
SO LIKE, I WAS RAISING KIDS, SO THEY ASKED ME TO, TO, UH, SUBMIT ONE OF MY POINTS.
UM, BUT I THINK I DISCOVERED MYSELF.
AND, AND SO BACK TO 20 11, 1 OF THE WRITERS, WE RAN INTO EACH OTHER AND WE DECIDED TO, UM, DO IT AGAIN.
AND, AND ONE OF THE, UH, MAIN PEOPLE AT, UH, THE BATHHOUSE WAS VETO GONZALEZ
[00:35:01]
AND BARBARA REYNOLD GONZALEZ.AND, YOU KNOW, UH, UH, THAT CLAN THERE, THAT GANG.
BUT, UH, WE, I'M VERY, UH, GRATEFUL TO THE CULTURAL CENTERS FOR BACKING UP THE COMMUNITY, FOR GIVING US THE OPPORTUNITY AND, YOU KNOW, FOR US TO HOLD OUR EVENTS AND, AND PROGRAMS. SO, UM, WHY IS RECOVERING LITERATURE AND THE BOOKS IMPORTANT? BECAUSE WE, WE FOCUS ON THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT OF THOSE BOOKS AND LITERATURE.
AND, AND I BROUGHT ONE AND, AND I FOUND IT AT THE BOOKENDS, LIKE AT THE LIBRARY FOR A DOLLAR.
IT'S CALLED, UM, EL BARRIO STUDY, 1975.
AND IT'S WRITTEN IN, IN, UM, AS A DIARY AND PUBLISHED BY THE PARKS DEPARTMENT AND THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT OF THE CITY OF DALLAS.
SO, UM, ABOUT 52 PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY MET FOR SEVERAL MONTHS OR WEEKS.
I'M NERVOUS, I DON'T REMEMBER, BUT THIS IS, UH, THEIR WORK.
AND I DID ASK THE LIBRARY IF THEY HAVE THIS BOOK, AND THERE'S ONE IN COLLECTIONS.
AND IN, IN READING THIS, IT SAYS THAT THEY'RE, UM, 10, 10 BOOKS OF THESE.
I DON'T KNOW IF IF IT CONTINUED OR NOT.
BUT ANYWAY, UM, I MET A LADY AND I MENTIONED IT TO HER.
SHE COULD HELP ME IDENTIFY ALL THE PEOPLE LISTED.
AND WE REALIZED THAT ONE OF THE MEMBERS WAS, UH, A LADY THAT COMES TO OUR, UH, FIESTA AT THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER.
EVERY YEAR SHE SITS DOWN WITH HER FRIENDS AND WATCHES THE PERFORMANCES.
AND I'M TALKING ABOUT MRS. LUNA.
THEY'RE CELEBRATING A HUNDRED YEARS, THE LUNA TORTILLA FACTORY, UH, THIS YEAR.
AND SHE ATTENDS OUR EVENTS EVERY YEAR.
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW, BUT, UM, I MET HER, HER GRANDDAUGHTER, AND SHE SAYS, MRS. ALONSO, I DANCED WITH YOUR SON.
AND IT'S LIKE, OH, SHE'S TOO YOUNG.
BUT ANYWAY, THAT'S A PERSONAL STORY OF MINE.
BUT BACK TO THIS BOOK, WE FEEL LIKE, UH, WE'RE NOT READY TO TAKE ON THIS PROJECT.
SO I'M GOING TO, I, I, I WANTED TO APPLY FOR A GRANT SO THAT I CAN, UM, REPLICATE THE EFFORTS AND WRITE OUR OWN DIARY AND JUST FOLLOW, UH, I CAN, IT'S FALLING APART IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT.
UM, BUT YOU KNOW, IT WAS, IT'S METICULOUS IN HOW THEY, YOU KNOW, THE PROCESS.
AND IT WAS SO, UM, COMMUNITY ORIENTED.
AND SO THAT'S ONE OF THE BOOKS.
NOW, THIS IS JUST ANOTHER, A CHAP MANUSCRIPT THAT WAS HANDED TO ME AND, AND IT HAPPENS TO US NOW THAT WE WERE KNOWN FOR, UH, PRINTING, PUBLISHING CHAT BOOKS.
LIKE, THIS IS MY STORY, READ IT.
MAYBE YOU CAN HELP ME PUBLISH.
SO I'M LIKE, ARE YOU SURE YOU WANNA GIVE IT TO ME, MS. THERE'S MORE THAN ONE COPY.
SO THIS IS JUST SOMETHING THAT SOMEONE IN THE COMMUNITY, THIS IS OUR WORK, THIS IS MY WORK I'M PROUD OF, I'M PROUD OF YOU ALL.
AND HAMIN, THE LATINO CULTURAL CENTER, EVERYONE.
AND I'M, I'M REALLY HAPPY TO BE HERE.
THANK YOU TINO, FOR THE INVITATION.
AND YOU KNOW, THAT'S WHAT I HAVE TO SHARE WITH YOU ALL TODAY.
I DO HAVE ANY WHERE I'LL TAKE QUESTIONS, I DON'T KNOW, BUT WE DO HAVE AN EVENT.
I'LL KEEP YOU TOO LONG, VERY QUICKLY, WHEN YOU GET READY TO DO THIS PROJECT.
DON'T FORGET THE ARTS ACTIVATE FUNDING PROGRAM WITH THE OFFICE CITY, BECAUSE IT SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE A GREAT, OR
I'M, UM, UM, YES MA'AM, CHAIR SMALL.
SO WHILE, UM, THEY'RE TALKING TO SINGLE DE MILO PARADE IS ON MAY 4TH.
SATURDAY, IT'S, UH, ALWAYS ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH.
WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 30 YEARS, UM, MINUS THE TWO PANDEMIC YEARS.
BUT, UM, BUT UM, IT'S FREE SCHOOLS
[00:40:01]
AND YOUTH GROUPS PARTICIPATE FREE.BUT, YOU KNOW, WE GO A LITTLE HIGH ON THE CORPORATES, BUT WE MAKE IT HAPPEN 30 YEARS.
WE BROKE EVEN LAST YEAR AND, UM, THIS 2023.
SO, UM, WE'RE ABOUT TWO THIRDS OF THE WAY IN OUR FUNDRAISING.
YOU KNOW, YOU'VE HEARD THE STORIES.
UM, IT HAPPENED, UH, TO, UM, A HOLIDAY PARADE.
AND, AND SOME PEOPLE LIKE, DON'T PUBLISH IT.
IT'S NOT EMBARRASSING A REALITY.
SO, UM, YOU KNOW, WE'RE NOT THE ONLY ORGANIZATION THAT DOES THIS FABULOUS PARADE.
WE'RE ONE OF SIX ACTUALLY, IF YOU INCLUDE YOUR PARK PARADE.
AND, UH, WE'RE ONE OF SIX PARADES, SO THANK YOU FOR REMINDING ME.
I'M JUST LIKE THINKING OF SO MANY THINGS RIGHT NOW.
I SEE SOMEONE, IT IS FREE TO THE PUBLIC.
UM, I WANTED TO SAY, UH, ABOUT THE BOOK, UH, THAT YOU FOUND IN THE LIBRARY.
UM, I USED TO TEACH MIDDLE SCHOOL AND ONE OF THE BEST WAYS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO WRITE POETRY I FOUND WAS A BOOK BY GARY SOTO, THE HOOD OS BECAUSE THEN THE KIDS WOULD SEE THEMSELVES IN SOME OF THAT WORK AND THEY WOULD, AND SO I WANNA ENCOURAGE YOU BECAUSE ALSO ONE OF MY, ONE OF MY GOALS IN LIFE IS FOR EVERY KID IN DALLAS TO BE ABLE TO SAY THERE WAS THIS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD.
AND THAT THEY WOULD KNOW THE POET IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD BECAUSE THEY HAD INTERACTED WITH THEM OR THEY HAD READ THEIR WORK.
AND SO, UH, IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY DRIVING, BUT IF I CAN HELP IN ANY WAY, I WOULD LIKE TO THANK YOU TAB.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? SOLANO, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
UH, ARE YOU WELL, I, UH, I THINK SHE STEPPING OUT.
OH, THAT'S, WE'RE LOOKING AT THE MATERIALS.
LET'S, UH, MOVE OUR AGENDA AND GO TO OUR DIRECTOR'S.
ALL GOOD EVENING WHERE WE'RE STARTING.
I JUST WANTED TO SHARE, UM, A BIT OF PROGRESS.
UH, SOME MONTHS AGO, UH, FOLLOWING OUR BUDGET APPROVAL, WE SHARED A BIT ABOUT OUR HIRING PLAN, THIS, UH, FISCAL YEAR.
SO WE SHOULD TURN A NEW YEAR AND OUR ACTIVELY, IN MOST CASES IN THE PROCESS, UM, TO ADDRESS 12 OPENINGS ON OUR TEAM.
AND THAT'S A LOT, UH, TO UNDERTAKE AS A STAFF.
SO FOR ALL THE HIRING MANAGERS WHO ARE PRESENT AND NOT, THANK YOU.
'CAUSE IT'S NO EASY FEAT TO TRY, UH, TO ATTEMPT TO FILL THESE SEATS THAT WE'VE GOT OPEN.
BUT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED BECAUSE, UM, THIS IS DOCUMENTED ACROSS MANY OF OUR DIVISIONS AND OUR FUNDING PROGRAMS TEAM ON RHONDA'S TEAM, UM, ACROSS OUR CULTURAL VENUES SUCH AS THE MOODY.
UM, OF COURSE WE'LL BE FILLING OUR MT AND VACANT BUSINESS MANAGER SEAT.
WE HAVE TWO SEATS FROM THE PUBLIC ART DIVISION AS WELL.
UM, BUT AGAIN, KUDOS AND CHEERS TO, UH, THE HIRING MANAGERS AND ALL THE PANELISTS THAT HAVE SUPPORTED OUR SELECTION PROCESSES THAT ARE UNDERWAY.
UM, LOOK FORWARD SOME REALLY EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENTS, UM, AS SOON AS WE CAN SHARE.
BY NEXT MONTH WE'LL HAVE SOME NAMES AND POSITIONS Q AND S AS, UM, OFFERS ARE FINALIZED.
BUT PLEASE DO SUPPORT US WITH MORE GRACE AS ALWAYS.
'CAUSE MANY OF US ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN A NUMBER OF SELECTION PROCESSES WITHIN OUR DEPARTMENT.
UM, IN MY CASE OUTSIDE OF OUR DEPARTMENT.
ILL PAUSE THERE FOR QUESTIONS.
UM, SO KNOWING THAT JULIA'S OUT OF THE COUNTRY FOR A WHILE THAT DO YOU NEED HELP? IS THERE
[00:45:01]
ANYTHING WE CAN DO AS IT RELATES TO HER JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OR AS IT, AS IT RELATES TO STAFFING, AS IT RELATES TO THE TOPIC THAT CAME UP DURING THE MEETING IN ONE OF OUR COMMITTEE MEETINGS ABOUT ARE WE ABLE TO VOLUNTEER TO HELP IN ANY WAY AS IT RELATES TO, UM, SELECTION PROCESSES, UH, WITHIN OUR OFFICE? NO, BUT, UM, SORRY, NOT IN HIRING.UH, I HAD BROUGHT THIS UP AS AN OFFER TO VOLUNTEER.
I'LL GLEN RESPOND IN KIND DIRECTLY IF HE'S AWARE OF VERY SPECIFIC NEEDS UNDER HIS UMBRELLA THAT, UM, WELL I THOUGHT IT HAD TO GO TO, UH, CITY ATTORNEYS OR THERE HAD TO BE SOME VETTING TO SEE IF THAT WAS EVEN PERMISSIBLE.
WE, GLEN IS READY TO ADDRESS THAT.
WE HAVE NOT CONTINUED TO PURSUE THAT JUST YET.
UH, SO I DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER TO YOU ON THAT PARTICULAR THING.
I WILL SAY JULIE DID A VERY GOOD JOB PLANNING FOR HER ABSENCE, UM, BOTH WITH OUR TEMP AND THEN, UM, SOME OTHER ASSISTANCE THAT WE HAVE WITH A CONTRACT COMPLIANCE ADMINISTRATOR, LISA PARKER.
UH, RIGHT NOW MOST OF OUR PROCESS ON HER TEAM IS UNDER PANEL REVIEW, UH, WHICH IS A VERY NICE OVERLAP.
SO ALL OF THAT IS WITH PANEL LIKE FOR, UH, OUR
THIS WILL UNDER PANEL REVIEW RIGHT NOW AND NOW THAT WE'VE MOVED WHERE WE ARE WITH THE COP GUIDELINES, THAT WOULD COME OVER TO MY PLATE, UH, AND MARTIN TEAM'S PLATE ANYWAY, UM, TO FORWARD.
SO AS OF RIGHT NOW, I THINK WE ARE OKAY.
SHE DOES HAVE A, SPEAKING OF HIRING TWO PEOPLE ON, SHE'S WORKING CURRENTLY WORKING WITH TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS.
SO WE NEED THOSE PEOPLE ON BOARDED VERY QUICKLY AND SHE'S WORKING ON HER THIRD.
SO YES, THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THAT GENEROUS OFFER.
JUST WE WILL CONTINUE TO PURSUE THE ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION, WE JUST HAVEN'T YET.
