I BROUGHT BACK UP JUST IN CASE .

[Senior Affairs Commission on March 18, 2024.]

OKAY.

DO WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC SPEAKERS EITHER ONLINE OR ANY ? NO, WE DON'T.

UH, I'VE ENTERTAINED A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE LAST MEETING.

SECOND.

I HAVE A QUESTION.

I THINK, UH, MITCHELL'S NAME'S MISSPELLED IN THERE.

OH, I'M SORRY.

I DON'T KNOW HOW CRITICAL.

THAT'S, THAT'S THE NEXT THING THEN DISCUSSION.

BUT I'M ON DISCUSSION.

I HAD, WHAT WAS MS. STEVE, DO YOU KNOW WHAT PAGE THAT WAS ON? I DO NOT.

I'M SORRY.

I'M LOOKING FOR IT HERE.

IT, BECAUSE I SEE YOU ON PAGE ONE AND TWO.

I DIDN'T, OH, IT WASN'T ANYTHING MAJOR, BUT I DIDN'T OH, IT'S GOT AN H IN THERE RIGHT HERE IN THE SECOND PAGE.

IMTH.

OKAY.

THERE'S TRANS TRANSPOSITION ON PAGE TWO OF THE MINUTES, ON SECOND PARAGRAPH.

UH, WHERE VERNA MITCHELL'S NAME IS TRANSPOSED THE CDH, JUROR IN THE ROTHSTEIN.

ANY OTHER COMMENTS ABOUT THE MINUTES BEFORE WE TAKE THE VOTE? ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES, SAY AYE.

A OR TO THE OPPOSED.

OKAY.

UH, WE'VE GOT SEVERAL PEOPLE ONLINE.

JUST A REMINDER, EVERYBODY HAS TO BE VISIBLE AND, UH, AUDIBLE IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED PRESENT.

I DON'T KNOW WHETHER I'M VISIBLE OR NOT.

I CAN'T TELL.

I I CAN SEE YOU AND I CAN HEAR YOU.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

UH, LIC, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO UPDATE US ON REGARDING THE, THE SKIING IN, UH, WAS FABULOUS.

, SORRY I MISSED, I'LL WAIT FOR, I HOPE YOU COULD ALL GO.

UM, PETE AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THIS CON CONTENT SPECIALIST INITIATIVE.

UM, AND THANK EVERY ONE OF YOU FOR GETTING BACK TO ME OF WHERE YOUR AREAS OF INTEREST ARE.

PETE AND I ARE LOOKING AT THE, THOSE INTERESTS AGAINST WHAT THE LIST WE THINK THAT NEEDS TO BE COVERED.

UM, AND WE'LL PROBABLY BE GETTING BACK TO YOU AFTER THIS MEETING OR NEXT MONTH REGARDING AREAS THAT WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON.

SO LIKE TODAY WE'VE GOT PARK AND RECS, UH, RECORDING AND SO WE MIGHT NEED SOME FOLLOW UP OR SOME MORE DIGGING INTO THAT AREA.

UM, AND OBVIOUSLY KAREN WAS ALWAYS WORKING ON HOUSING, SO SHE'S GOING TO BE OUR SPOKESPERSON THERE.

SO ANYWAY, UM, EXPECT MORE ON THIS IN THE NEXT 30 TO 60 DAYS.

AND I THINK WHAT OUR, OUR GOAL IS TO NAIL DOWN AT LEAST ONE, MAYBE TWO OR THREE DIFFERENT AREAS AND, UM, PUT A TIMEFRAME ON IT WHEN WE'RE REPORTING BACK TO THE COMMISSION AS A WHOLE, PROBABLY AT EITHER THE MAY, JUNE OR OR AUGUST MEETINGS.

UH, IS, UH, TO, TO GET IT ROLLING.

I THINK THAT'LL GIVE EVERYBODY A BETTER IDEA OF HOW THAT'LL WORK.

OKAY.

NEW BUSINESS.

UH, STACY MALCOLMSON IS CEO OF THE SENIOR SOURCES HERE.

UH, AND WE'LL BE PRESENTING AN UPDATE FOR US AND YOU WANT UP HERE AND WE'LL GET FORWARD WITH THAT.

THANK YOU CHAIR KLEIN.

HELLO EVERYBODY.

IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU HERE TODAY.

I WAS HERE TWO YEARS AGO IN JANUARY, 2022, SO I'M GLAD TO BE BACK TO GIVE YOU THE SENIOR SOURCES VIEW OF WHAT IS GOING ON WITH OLDER ADULTS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

I KNOW YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THAT, HOW THE SENIOR SOURCE IS ADDRESSING SOME OF THOSE NEEDS.

AND THEN I WILL LEAVE IT UP TO YOU ALL FOR QUESTIONS.

I APPRECIATE FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO COULD COME TO OUR LUNCHEON TWO OR THREE WEEKS AGO, IT WAS A WONDERFUL EVENT.

WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT AND CAN Y'ALL HEAR ME OKAY? PRESENTATION.

ALRIGHT.

SO NEXT SLIDE.

SO, THE MISSION OF THE SENIOR SOURCE IS PRETTY STRAIGHTFORWARD.

IT'S TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF OLDER ADULTS IN GREATER DALLAS.

WE HAVE BEEN DOING

[00:05:01]

SO SINCE 1961.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO AS YOU ALL KNOW, WE COLLECTIVELY ARE IN THE GROWTH BUSINESS, RIGHT? SO THERE ARE ABOUT 15% OF THE POPULATION IN THE CITY OF DALLAS ARE OLDER ADULTS.

ALL THIS INFORMATION COMES FROM THE GREAT WORK THAT CHAIR KLEIN AND THE TEAM HERE DID TO DO UNDERSTAND SENIORS IN DALLAS.

THIS POPULATION IS THE FASTEST GROWING.

IT'S GROWING TWO TIMES FASTER THAN OTHER POPULATIONS.

AND THE SEGMENT OF OLDER ADULTS THAT'S GROWING THE FASTEST ARE, THAT'S THE LARGEST FOR THE 65 TO 74 YEAR OLDS.

SO THE YOUNG ONES, NOW, WHAT HAPPENS CAN HAPPEN IS THEY'RE THE LARGEST POPULATION AND THEY'RE GOING TO BE LIVING LONGER.

SO WE WILL BE IN THE GROWTH BUSINESS FOR MANY MORE YEARS.

BUT THE DOWNSIDE OF THE POPULATION IS 13% OF THE POPULATION IS AT THE POVERTY LEVEL, AND THAT NUMBER IS INCREASING.

SO WHILE THE POVERTY RATE OF OTHER YOUNGER DEMOGRAPHICS IS DECLINING, THE POVERTY RATE OF SENIORS IS INCREASING.

AND I'LL GO OVER KIND OF WHY THAT COULD BE, BUT I JUST WANTED TO SHOW YOU A QUICK VIDEO.

UM, SINCE WE'RE ALL IN THE GROWTH BUSINESS OF OLDER ADULTS, I THOUGHT YOU WOULD APPRECIATE THIS, UH, VIDEO ABOUT CELEBRATING AGING.

SO WE'LL RUN THE VIDEO PLEASE.

WE DON'T HAVE, THE AUDIO VIDEOS ARE ALWAYS A TRICKY THING TO, THAT I CAN SEND A NOTE AFTERWARDS.

WELL, THAT'S WHAT, YES.

WHEN YOU SAID 13%, DID YOU MEAN 13% OF THE SENIORS? OF THE SENIORS? SENIORS.

OKAY.

WE, UH, SO ONLY TWO, 2% OF THIS 15% ARE NOT AT THE DEPARTMENT LEVEL.

IS THAT? NO.

SO, SO 13%, UH, AND THAT NUMBER HAS THE PERCENT OF PEOPLE IN POVERTY HAS INCREASED FOR OLDER ADULTS WHILE IT'S DECLINED IN YOUNGER POPULATIONS.

I DUNNO, MY QUESTION WAS OF THAT 13%, AND IF YOU'RE SAYING THERE ARE 15%, IS IS THAT A PARALLEL THAT 2% OF, OF THE SENIORS ARE DOING FINE AND 13%? NO.

SO 15% OF THE OVERALL POPULATION OF DALLAS ARE OLDER ADULTS, BUT THAT NUMBER, I THINK IT'S, THAT'S 50,000, 13% OF THEM AT PROPERTIES.

AND THE POVERTY LINE IS BASICALLY ABOUT A THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH IN INCOME.

YEAH.

UH, AND REALISTICALLY IS PROBABLY, UNLESS YOU'RE SEND A VIDEO, THAT'S OKAY.

OKAY.

YEAH, IT'S A REALLY GOOD VIDEO.

I CAN, I CAN YOU CHECK IT OUT ON YOUTUBE? ? WHAT, WHAT'S, WE'LL SEND IT OUT TO EVERYBODY.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

OKAY.

OKAY.

SO WE'LL GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE AFTER THAT.

I AM GETTING OUT THE GLASSES.

ALRIGHT, SO WE'LL GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE.

THIS, THERE WE GO.

THERE WE GO.

OH, THERE WE, WE GO.

RIGHT.

SO AS I MENTIONED, OUR MISSION IS TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF OLDER ADULTS IN GREATER DALLAS.

THAT HAS A LOT OF DEFINITIONS THERE, WANTING TO DIG A LITTLE DEEPER INTO.

SO WE'VE GOT, UM, WHAT WE CALL OUR CORE PROGRAMS AND OUR GROWTH PROGRAMS. OUR GROWTH PROGRAMS ARE SERVING OLDER ADULTS WHO ARE FINANCIALLY INSECURE.

SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT FINANCIALLY INSECURE, WHO, WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? WELL, WE JUST MENTIONED

[00:10:01]

13% OF SENIORS ARE IN POVERTY.

THE OTHER WAY SOMEONE CAN BE FINANCIALLY INSECURE IS THEY DON'T HAVE A JOB RIGHT NOW AND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR A JOB.

THEY COULD HAVE RETIRED DURING THE PANDEMIC AND ARE TRYING TO FIND A NEW JOB.

IT TAKES OLDER ADULTS FIVE TIMES LONGER TO FIND A JOB THAN SOMEONE YOUNGER.

AND THEN FINALLY, THEY CAN BE FINANCIALLY INSECURE.

THEY CAN HAVE A JOB OR BE RETIRED.

AND THEY ARE SCAMMED OUT OF ALL OF THEIR SAVINGS.

THE NEXT KIND OF GROWTH POPULATION WE SERVE ARE THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE FAMILY CAREGIVERS OF OLDER ADULTS.

SO THAT'S YOUR SPOUSE OR YOUR, UM, AN ADULT CHILD TAKING CARE OF A COHERENT.

AND THOSE OLDER ADULTS AND THOSE CAREGIVERS ARE STRUGGLING MOLY WITH THOSE CAREGIVING DUTIES.

AND I'LL TALK ABOUT HOW WE, UM, SERVE THOSE.

AND THOSE ARE THEIR, ARE MORE AND MORE CAREGIVERS EVERY DAY.

ABOUT 20% OF THE POPULATION IS CARING FOR AN OLDER ADULT.

AND THEN FINALLY WE HAVE OUR CORE PROGRAMS. AND THESE PROGRAMS REALLY FOCUS ON SOCIALLY ISOLATED, OLDER ADULTS.

SO THOSE OLDER ADULTS CAN BE SOCIALLY ISOLATED BECAUSE THEY'RE LIVING IN A LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY OR WE DON'T WANT THEM TO BE SOCIALLY ISOLATED.

WE WANT THEM TO VOLUNTEER WITH US.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO THERE ARE FIVE ISSUES FACING SENIORS.

MIKHAIL, YOU CAN JUST GO THROUGH ALL OF THESE.

UM, IN DALLAS, A LOT OF THEM ARE RELATED.

POVERTY.

WE'VE TALKED ABOUT POVERTY, UM, LACK OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES.

SO THAT CAN BE DIFFERENT FROM POVERTY.

IT IS HALF THE PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE ANY RETIREMENT SAVINGS MAY NOT MEAN YOU'RE IN POVERTY, BUT YOU JUST MAY NOT HAVE SAVED ENOUGH AND YOU'RE EXPECTING TO RETIRE AT 62, 65.

YOU CAN LIVE 30 YEARS.

PEOPLE HAVEN'T THOUGHT ABOUT LIVING 30 YEARS PAST RETIREMENT.

SO THAT'S LACK OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES TO GET YOU THROUGH YOUR LIFESPAN.

LACK OF PLANNING IS CLOSELY RELATED.

THE CALLS WE GET BETTER THAN MOST HEARTBREAKING IS I HAVEN'T PLANNED, I HAVEN'T PLANNED TO CARE FOR AS A LOVED ONE.

I HAVEN'T PLANNED FINANCIALLY TOO, TO STAY AHEAD AND I'LL GIVE YOU SOME EXAMPLES OF THOSE.

THE COST OF AGING INDEPENDENTLY.

AND SO, SO MANY MORE PEOPLE NOW WANNA LIVE AT HOME.

THEY WANNA LIVE THEIR LIFE IN THEIR HOME.

AND THE COST OF HOME HEALTH, COST OF HEALTHCARE AIDS MAKES THAT REALLY EXPENSIVE.

BUT GOING TO A LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY ISN'T INEXPENSIVE EITHER.

SO THIS IS REALLY A CONUNDRUM.

IT'S, IT'S HARD TO WORK WITH PEOPLE TO SAY, YOU KNOW, WHAT ARE THOSE AFFORDABLE OPTIONS OF LIVING INDEPENDENTLY AND WHAT OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER.

AND THEN FINALLY, SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY BECAME EVIDENT DURING COVID IS THIS TECHNOLOGICAL DIVIDE.

IT IS REALLY, TECHNOLOGY IS NOT AN OPTION ANYMORE.

WE ALL HAVE TO BE STANDING UP TO DATE WITH TECHNOLOGY AND AS SOON AS WE'RE UP TO DATE ON IT, THEY CHANGE IT.

MM-HMM, .

ALRIGHT, NEXT SLIDE.

SO THE NEXT SLIDE, YOU'RE NOT GONNA BE ABLE TO READ A WORD ON IT, BUT IT'S JUST AN EXAMPLE AND I'LL WALK YOU THROUGH.

THESE ARE JUST SAMPLE, UM, EMAIL CONTACTS THAT WE GET.

WE GET ABOUT 50 TO 60 WEBSITE CONTACTS IN EACH ASKING FOR HELP.

SO THE FIRST ONE IS SOMEONE WHO'S 80 PLUS AND THEY'RE LOOKING, THEY'RE ASKING FOR A FRIEND FOR GUARDIANSHIP SERVICES.

WE, THEY'RE JUST SO MUCH AND WE'RE SO GRATEFUL THAT PEOPLE ARE CHECKING IN ON THEIR NEIGHBORS.

THEY HAVE A NEIGHBOR WHO THEY THINK CANNOT TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES ANYMORE.

AND SO THEY'RE ASKING OUR HELP WITH GUARDIANSHIP SERVICES.

THE NEXT ONE IS SOMEONE WHO'S BETWEEN 70 AND 80, AND THEY'RE LOOKING FOR PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT.

UH, I HAVE MY BA AND MY HUSBAND HAS THIS PHD, BUT THEY NEED TO CONTINUE TO WORK AND THEY'RE IN THEIR SEVENTIES.

THE NEXT REQUEST IS SOMEONE WHO'S 65 YEARS OLD.

UH, SHE SAID, I'LL BE HOMELESS SOON.

UH, DUE TO LOW FIXED INCOME OF 963 A MONTH.

WE TALKED ABOUT THAT.

A THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH DUE TO THE INCREASE IN RENT.

I DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INCOME TO MOVE TO MY NEW PLACE.

MY TIME IS RUNNING OUT.

MY LEASE WILL EXPIRE ON MARCH 31ST.

CAN YOU HELP? AND THEN THE LAST REQUEST IS SOMEONE 65 TO 70.

AND THEY'VE BROKEN THEIR ARM, THEY'VE BEEN IN THE HOSPITAL, THEY'RE GETTING OUT OF REHAB AND THEY NEED SOME LEND AND TALK TO THEM ABOUT SOME HELP OPTIONS.

WILL MEDICARE COVER ANY OF THAT? THESE ARE ALL EXAMPLES OF WHAT WE GIVE AND ALL EXAMPLES OF HOW WE CAN HELP OUR PRINCIPALS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO I THINK Y'ALL ARE FAMILIAR WITH OUR ELDER FINANCIAL SAFETY CENTER.

THIS WAS A PROGRAM CREATED IN 2014, SO 10 YEARS AGO.

SO PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, THE PROBATE COURT, AND THE SENIOR SOURCE.

OUR GOAL IS TO PROSECUTE, PREVENT, AND PROTECT RESIDENTIAL CRIMES AGAINST OLDER ADULTS.

THE SENIOR SOURCE'S ROLE IN THAT IS PREVENTION.

IF YOU CAN PAY YOUR BILLS, IF YOU CAN

[00:15:01]

LIVE INDEPENDENTLY, IF YOU HAVE A JOB THAT'S NEEDED, YOU MAY BE LEFT.

AND IF YOU'RE EDUCATED FROM A TECHNOLOGY STANDPOINT, LESS LIKELY TO FALL PREY TO THAT FRAUD OR SCAM IF THERE'S A FRAUD OR SCAM THAT'S TAKEN PLACE.

THE D DA'S OFFICE STEPS IN, THEY HAVE DEDICATED NOW INVESTIGATORS AND ATTORNEYS THAT ARE THERE TO PROSECUTE FINANCIAL CRIMES AGAINST OLDER ADULTS.

AND THE PROBATE COURT, THEIR ROLE IS PROTECTION SO THAT THE PERSON WHO IS ROBBING OR SCAMMING THAT OLDER ADULT IS A FAMILY MEMBER WHO'S DOING SOME, UH, ILLEGAL ACTIVITY THAT THE PROBATE COURT STEPS IN TO PROTECT THAT OLDER ADULT.

WHAT'S THAT CALLED AGAIN? PROBATE GUARDIANSHIP.

OH, OKAY.

GUARDIANSHIP.

SO IS THAT ON THAT PROTECTION SIDE? I MENTIONED THE PERSON WHO'S LIVING ON $963 A MONTH AND THEIR RENT IS GOING UP.

WHAT THE SENIOR SOURCE CAN DO IN THAT CASE IS WE CAN MAKE SURE THEY KNOW IF ANY SORT OF HOUSING SUBSIDIES OR RENTAL ASSISTANCE.

SO WE CAN REFER THEM TO, UM, THIS I DON'T CITY OR THE COUNTY OR OTHER NON-PROFITS WHO DO RENTAL ASSISTANCE.

WE CAN HELP ALSO.

IF THEY HAVE A UTILITY BILL THAT HASN'T BEEN PAID, WE PARTNER WITH TXU AND THE ENERGY AND ATMOS ENERGY TO HELP PAY THOSE UTILITY BILLS.

WHICH, YOU KNOW, JUST THAT ONE MONTH RELIEF COULD ALLOW THAT PERSON TO GET CAUGHT UP ON THEIR RENT, PAY FOR MEDICATIONS TO GET STABLE.

WE'LL ALSO GO THROUGH A REVIEW OF THAT PERSON'S EXPENSES AND REVENUE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE MAXIMIZING THEIR REVENUE, THAT THEY ARE ELIGIBLE FOR SNAP BENEFITS.

IF THEY'RE NEEDED, THEY'RE ELIGIBLE FOR PA BENEFITS, WE'LL GET THEM REGISTERED FOR THOSE.

AND THEN WE'LL WORK ON REDUCING EXPENSES.

THAT COULD BE, MAYBE THEY'RE OVER-INSURED, UM, SOMEONE'S SOLD THEM, YOU KNOW, TOO NEW LIFE INSURANCE POLICIES, PAYDAY LOANS WE TRY TO GET PEOPLE OUTTA.

SO THAT'S HOW WE WORK, UM, ON THAT FINANCIAL SECURITY PIECE.

WE ALSO DO MONEY MANAGEMENT AND BUDGETING.

SO FOR PEOPLE, WE'RE STARTING TO LOSE THEIR COGNITIVE ABILITIES.

WE CAN WORK WITH THEM TO ACTUALLY MANAGE THEIR MONEY AND BE THEIR BUDGET.

WE HAVE VOLUNTEERS WHO MEET WITH THE OLDER ADULTS AT THEIR HOME, WORK ON THAT BUDGET WITH THEM, MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE LIVING WITHIN THEIR MEANS.

THAT MONEY MANAGER ALSO THROWS AWAY ALL THOSE JUNK MAILS AND ALL THAT SCANNING MAIL AND MAIL TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THAT.

BUT THAT MANY MANAGEMENT VOLUNTEERING PROGRAM CAN TAKE THAT PERSON LIVING INDEPENDENTLY FOR A LITTLE LONGER AND AS LONG AS POSSIBLE BECAUSE THE FINANCIAL ACUITY IS THE FIRST THING TO GO WHEN COGNITION STARTS TO DECLINE.

AND THEN THE OTHER THING WE DO ON THE NEXT SLIDE IS FRAUD AND SCANS.

EDUCATION AND ADVOCACY.

SO ALL OF Y'ALL, I MEAN, WHO'S BEEN, WHO'S GOTTEN A SCAN EMAIL IN THE LAST WEEK? I HAVE.

AND IT'S JUST, IT'S EVERYWHERE, RIGHT? THIS IS A 50, DO $50 BILLION BUSINESS.

ONE IN 10 PEOPLE SENIORS REPORT BEING SCANNED.

WHAT'S SO SCARY IS IT'S UNDER REPORTED 'CAUSE PEOPLE ARE EMBARRASSED.

YOU KNOW, THEY'RE REALLY EMBARRASSED TO TELL THEIR FAMILY MEMBER OR LOVED ONE OR SOMEONE.

THEY'VE BEEN SCAMMED.

AND SO, UM, IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE WORK WITH.

SO WE PROVIDE EDUCATION OPPORTUNITIES ALL ACROSS THE CITY.

ROTARY CLUBS, LIBRARIES, CHURCH GROUPS TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE ARE UP TO DATE ON THE LATEST FRAUDS AND SCAMS. IT KIND OF PROTECT THEMSELVES.

AND THEN WE ALSO, IF SOMEONE HAS BEEN SCAMMED, WE WALK ALONGSIDE THEM AND HELP THEM GET THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO I MENTIONED OUR TECHNOLOGY DEVICE.

SO WE ARE IN OUR THIRD YEAR, UH, PROVIDING TECHNOLOGY CLASSES WITH THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE A A RP.

AND THESE ARE TO KEEP PEOPLE JUST UP TO DATE ON TECHNOLOGY.

AND REALLY JUST TO YOU, AS I SAID, YOU CAN'T BE LEFT BEHIND ANYMORE.

YOU CAN RISK BEING SCAMMED.

YOU CAN RISK MISSING A DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT RISK, YOU KNOW, SIGNING UP FOR CLASSES THAT YOU MAY NEED.

SO JUST SOME EXAMPLE CLASSES WE HAVE IN MARCH AND APRIL, HOW TO USE MYCHART.

I MEAN, EVERY HOSPITAL OR PROVIDER RIGHT, HAS A DIFFERENT MYCHART.

IT'S SUCH A PAIN.

THE PRESCRIPTIONS ARE, SO THIS IS A, THAT'S TODAY ACTUALLY MOBILE HEALTH APPS.

SO HOW DO YOU USE THE, THE, YOU KNOW, STEP TRACKERS AND THE FITNESS TRACKERS, HEART RATE MONITORS AND APRIL, GETTING TO KNOW YOUR COMPUTER.

SO THAT'S SOMETHING WE HAVE A DEDICATED COMPUTER LAB AT THE SENIOR SOURCE.

THESE CLASSES ARE TAUGHT.

AND HERE FOOD SERVICE DELIVERY APPS.

SO AGAIN, THAT COULD BE SOMETHING, UH, A BENEFIT THAT YOU NEED.

IF YOU END UP IN THE HOSPITAL, YOU CAN'T OR YOU'RE, YOU KNOW, AT HOME RECOVERING FROM SOMETHING, YOU'LL NEED TO KNOW HOW TO HAVE THOSE FOOD SERVICE DELIVERY APPS.

AND THEN IGNACIO, WHO'S OUR TECHNOLOGY TRAINER, HIS FAVORITE COURSE IS EVERYDAY USES OF AI.

SO APRIL 22ND, YOU GUYS WRITE THAT DOWN.

I CAN CERTAINLY GET YOU ON OUR WEBSITE.

YOU'LL SEE THE TIME.

BUT THAT'S A BIG ONE THESE DAYS.

AND YOU KNOW, IF YOU WANNA WRITE A LOVE LETTER TO YOUR SPOUSE,

[00:20:01]

THEY HAVE GREAT LOVE LETTERS ON THERE.

, THAT'S ONE I HAVE TO SAY IT WAS STA ARE THE, UH, FACE-TO-FACE OR THEY STUDENT, THEY'RE FACE PERSON.

AND DO YOU EVER TAKE THEM ON THE ROAD? WE, THE NEXT, THE NEXT PAGE.

THESE CLASSES ARE TAUGHT AT SENIOR SOURCE 'CAUSE THEY ARE REALLY FOR OUR OWN, UM, KIND OF SELF ENRICHMENT GETTING ALONG.

RECREATION'S PROBABLY TOO LIGHT OF A WORK, BUT JUST EVERYDAY USES.

ON THE NEXT SLIDE YOU'RE GONNA SEE, UH, WE HAVE STARTED JUST SINCE SEPTEMBER.

TECHNOLOGY TRAINING FOR JOB SEEKERS.

WE OFFER THESE CLASSES AT DALLAS COLLEGE.

OH.

AND SO THIS IS SOMETHING NEW FOR THE SENIOR SOURCE.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO IS MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY SKILLS TO BECOME CAREER WEST ALREADY.

SO IF YOU WERE A TEACHER DURING COVID, YOU RETIRED FOR A LOT OF REASONS, GETTING BACK OUT THERE, GIVE A LINKEDIN PROFILE.

SO WE'LL TEACH YOU HOW TO DO A LINKEDIN PROFILE.

DO YOU HAVE A RESUME? ARE YOU ABLE TO SUBMIT A RESUME ONLINE AND A JOB APPLICATIONS? DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SEARCH FOR JOBS IN INDEED, ON INDEED.

AND THEN WE GO THROUGH BASIC SKILLS IN TERMS OF MICROSOFT WORD, MICROSOFT EXCEL, OUTLOOK, ET CETERA.

SO THESE ARE THE CLASSES THAT ARE TAKING PLACE IN CONJUNCTION AT DALLAS COLLEGE WITH THEIR MARRIAGES PROGRAM.

SO WE'RE REALLY PLEASED WITH THOSE PARTNERSHIPS SO FAR.

IT JUST STARTED IN SEPTEMBER, SO WE'LL HAVE MORE RESULTS SOON.

BUT WE'RE, UM, WE THINK THIS IS THE BEST WAY FOR THE SENIOR SOURCE TO GET OLDER ADULTS KIND OF CAREER READY IN THAT PLACE WHERE THEY CAN LOOK FOR A JOB.

'CAUSE IT IS GONNA TAKE THEM A WHILE.

WILL THERE BE ANY KIND OF JOB FAIRS IN ASSOCIATION WITH THAT KIND OF TECHNOLOGY? WE HAVE NOT DONE JOB FAIRS.

IT'S, UM, WHO'S LOOKING FOR JOBS IS SO VARIED FROM WHO'S COMING TO JOBS.

IT'S HARD TO FIND THAT MATCH.

MM-HMM.

.

WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE PROVIDING OTHER JOB FAIR INFORMATION TO THOSE SEEKING JOBS.

I THINK THAT'S THE BEST PLACE FOR US.

OKAY.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT FINANCIAL? UM, OH, WELL WHILE I, WHILE I GO TO THE NEXT PAGE.

GO.

SO THIS ELDER FINANCIAL SAFETY CENTER TEAM WON NONPROFIT OF THE YEAR IN DALLAS BY DCEO MAGAZINE.

SO I'M VERY PROUD OF THAT TEAM.

IT'S A VERY WELL DESERVED, UM, AWARD.

BUT I WANTED TO SEE IF ANYONE HAD ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THESE FINANCIAL WELLBEING SERVICES WE OFFER AT THE SENIOR SOURCE.

THE LADY WHO SENT AN EMAIL ASKING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE.

HOW DO YOU HANDLE THAT? DO YOU HAVE PARAMETERS OR DO YOU HAVE A SOURCE OF FUNDS? MM-HMM.

.

SO IT DEPENDS ON OUR PARTNERS.

SO TXU AND AMBIT AND ALL HAVE DIFFERENT AGES.

I THINK IT'S USUALLY 55 PLUS.

THEY HAVE TO BE BELOW A CERTAIN, UM, INCOME LEVEL TO QUALIFY TO HAVE THAT BILL PAID.

AND EACH ONE OF THOSE PARTNERS DETERMINES HOW MUCH OF THAT BILL CAN BE PAID.

SO IT'S NOT A CASH, IT'S JUST A CREDIT WITH THE VENDOR.

IT GOES IN THE BACKEND.

THAT'S RIGHT.

AND WE ALSO PROVIDE, SO IF SOMEONE IS, YOU'RE REALLY DOWN IN THEIR LIFE, WE DO HAVE MONEY TO PROVIDE A A, A GAS CARD OR A GROCERY CART TO GET THEM, YOU KNOW, MAYBE JUST A FEW DAYS RELIEF OR SOMETHING AT THE SEA.

I LOST SIGN UP FOR THAT ONE.

THE GAS CARD .

YEAH.

THAT ON THE WELL.

BUT, UH, IN OUR REALITY, WHEN YOU HAVE PEOPLE, THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU ALL CONSIDER.

THE THOUSAND DOLLARS BELOW PROPERTY LEVEL IS JUST SOMETHING THAT YOU JUST SAID.

SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE CAN PROBABLY CASH IN ON IF THEY GOING SHORT THAT MONTH OR SO.

AND THE THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH IS JUST KIND OF THAT, I MEAN THAT IS A, A REAL OWNERSHIP, BUT PEOPLE UP TO, I DON'T, I DON'T KNOW.

I THINK THAT TXU AND THOSE PARTNERS IS HIGHER THAN A THOUSAND DOLLARS A MONTH.

I'M PRETTY SURE.

UM, THEY WOULD LOOK AT PEOPLE THAT'S HAVE IN CONSIDER ARE HIGHER THAN THAT AMOUNT.

UM, AND THAT'S STILL THOUGH EVEN BEING TWO TIMES THAT.

SO, YOU KNOW, $2,000 A MONTH, IT'S HARD TO MAKE ALL THOSE LOANS MEET.

SO A THOUSAND WERE IS ON.

I MEAN I WANT, I WANT, I WISH IT WAS A BASELINE, BUT WE UH, I THINK THAT TAKES ME MAYBE TWO TIMES, PROBABLY WOULD BE $2,000 A MINUTE.

I THINK WHAT I RUN INTO A LOT OF MY SENIORS THAT I'M FAMILIAR WITH AND COME IN CONTACT WITH, THEY NEED THEIR LIFE BILL PAY LIKE EVERY NOW AND THEN.

BUT IF THEY GOTTA QUALIFY WITH A CERTAIN AMOUNT, THEY DON'T GET IT.

'CAUSE THEY SAY THEY OVER THE GUIDELINES.

YEAH.

SO I WAS JUST SAYING THERE ANY PROGRAMS WHERE PEOPLE ARE HELPED LIKE EVERY NOW AND THEN OR THEY DON'T.

SO WE PAY THOSE BILLS ONCE A YEAR.

AND THAT'S WHAT KIND OF T YOU IN OUT THIS IN AMBIT ALLOW, UM, THERE'S A PROGRAM CALLED CA MM-HMM.

C-E-A-A-C-E-A-P.

AND I CAN GET SOME MORE INFORMATION ON THAT.

IT MAY HAVE DIFFERENT GUIDELINES.

OKAY.

UM, SO I CAN CAN TAKE THAT TOO MUCH THAT, BUT THEY MAY HAVE A LITTLE INCOME BUT THEY OVER THE GUIDELINE.

BUT THEY MIGHT NEED HELP SOMETIME.

LIKE I THINK SOME OF 'EM HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT A FIVE OR $600

[00:25:01]

LIFE BILL THIS PAST JANUARY.

THEY COULDN'T DO IT.

SO I'M JUST SAYING SOMEBODY CAN GIVE 'EM SOME MONEY JUST FOR THAT MONTH.

THEY NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO DO IT ALL THE TIME.

BUT THEY DIDN'T QUALIFY BECAUSE THEY WAS OVER MM-HMM.

.

AND THAT WAS, THAT WOULD BE A CASE WHERE WE COULD WORK WITH THEIR MOTHER, OTHER EXPENSES WE COULD HELP THEM SAVE MONEY ON SO THEY CAN PAY THE, THE LIGHT BILL.

PERHAPS THAT IS INFORMATION TO PASS ON.

YEAH.

SO I HAVE A QUESTION FROM MACKAY IN THIS AREA.

UM, UM, WEST DALLAS ONCE OR TWICE A YEAR HAS THE PROGRAM WHERE I THINK DO THEY PRE-QUALIFY MACKAY TO GET HELP WITH LIKE ATMOS ENERGY OR OTHER BILLS? SO HOW DOES THAT WORK? I MEAN, I HAVE VOLUNTEERED AND BEEN TRAINED TO SORT OF DO THAT.

JESSICA, YOU HAVE THE INFORMATION? UH, NO ACTUALLY I DON'T.

UM, THAT PROGRAM IS ADMINISTERED BY OUR SOCIAL SERVICES DEPARTMENT AND THEY'RE NOT HERE.

BUT WE DO HAVE PROGRAMS AT BOTH WEST DALLAS AND MLK THAT, THAT'S SIMILARLY LIKE TX THEY GIVE FUNDING TO VARIOUS NONPROFITS, ATMO, SOME OF THE OTHERS.

SO WE HAVE THAT.

AND THEN THE C PROGRAM IS NOT ADMINISTERED BY C THAT'S ACTUALLY, THAT'S TRUE BY DALLAS COUNTY.

YEAH.

BUT THEY DO HAVE OFFICE SPACES IN THE COMMUNITY CENTERS AT, AT WEST DALLAS.

RIGHT.

AT WEST DALLAS.

.

THEY HAVE C UH, FOLKS THAT COME THROUGH AND KIND OF OFFICE THERE AND DELIVER THAT SERVICE.

BUT IT'S ACTUALLY COUNTY DALLAS COUNTY STAFF DO THAT.

RIGHT.

SO THE, I DON'T KNOW OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD, I COULD GET THAT FROM OUR SOCIAL SERVICE TO PEOPLE AS FAR AS LIKE THE AMOUNTS AND PROCESS.

BUT GENERALLY SPEAKING, YES WE DO REFER PEOPLE TO CF IF THEY CAN'T FOR SOME REASON TXT PARTNERS WITH, AS JESSICA MENTIONED, OTHER NON-PROFITS WE'RE JUST EXCLUSIVELY FOR OLDER ADULTS.

UM, BUT TX U ANNOUNCEMENTS ARE THE ONES DICTATING THOSE INCOME THRESHOLDS.

RIGHT.

SO THEY THERE ARE, I I WAS JUST GONNA, BECAUSE I KNOW MAC KYLE KNOWS THAT.

'CAUSE I KNOW WHERE THE OFFICES, THERE ARE OTHER PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR THOSE TYPE OF PEOPLE THAT DON'T REALLY.

WHAT ABOUT WILLERBY JOHNSON DO, WHAT ARE YOU ALL DOING AT WILLERBY JOHNSON COMMUNITY CENTER OVER AT HAMILTON PARK? THAT'S ACTUALLY A QUESTION.

MAYBE PARKS AND NEWARK CAN ANSWER SINCE THAT'S A RECREATION CENTER.

WELL, WELL I KNOW, I KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.

I'M, I'M SENIOR, SENIOR STORES LOCATION.

BECAUSE, BECAUSE I MEAN, I, I'M BE REAL HONEST WITH YOU, UNTIL I CAME TO Y'ALL'S BANQUET AND I'M 70 YEARS OLD, I'VE NEVER HEARD OF YOUR ORGANIZATION AND YOU'VE BEEN AROUND SINCE 1961.

BUT I'VE NEVER HEARD.

WELL, AND THAT'S WHAT WE ARE, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THAT FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS, TRYING TO INCREASE VISIBILITY AND AWARENESS TO MAKE SURE WHERE, WHERE ARE YOU DOING THAT? 'CAUSE I'M, I MEAN I'M AT A HUGE CHURCH.

HAMILTON PARK, UNITED METHODIST CHURCH.

I'VE NEVER SEEN YOU THERE.

NEVER SEEN YOU ALL IN HAMILTON PARK COMMUNITY OR EVEN IN D 10 AT ALL.

WE'D BE GLAD TO COME UP THERE.

ABSOLUTELY.

I WELL I'VE KNOWN OF YOU SINCE 1969.

SO THAT PUT ME IN A DIFFERENT CATEGORY, BUT A COUPLE THINGS.

UM, I WAS, I THOUGHT ABOUT HAMILTON PARK, YOUR, YOUR, UM, COMPUTER PRO, YOUR COMPUTER CLASSES I THINK ARE VERY VALUABLE AND, UH, OR WHAT I ASSUME THEY ARE.

BUT, UM, I I, I KNOW THERE'S A LIMIT TO HOW MUCH STAFF AND WHO CAN DO, I KNOW HAMILTON PARK DOES IN THEIR NEW SENIOR CENTER DOES HAVE A COMPUTER ROOM.

AND I'M WONDERING IF YOU ALL COULD CONSIDER ESPECIALLY YOUR SCAM PROGRAM, TAKING IT ON THE ROAD WHEN YOU KNOW, WE, WELL, WE DO THE FRAUDS AND SCAMS AND WE, WE CONSULT, WE WILL MAKE SURE THAT WE REACH OUT TO THE, UM, SENIOR CENTER IN HEALTH TON PARK AND WE'LL DO THAT.

STEVE BENTON ON OUR TEAM, HE IS ON THE ROAD.

OKAY.

ALL TIME.

HE HAS TO, DIDN'T HAVE TO BE INVITED.

BUT NOW THAT WE KNOW THERE'S AN INVITATION, WE CAN CERTAINLY CALL AND SET HIM UP TOO.

OKAY.

SO KAREN, THE DALLAS POLICE DEPARTMENT.

MM-HMM, RIGHT.

HAS A WHOLE SCAM UNIT AND THEY WILL COME OUT ALSO.

OKAY.

AND, AND THEY ARE NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING.

THEY DO A GREAT JOB.

SO THERE'S ANOTHER OKAY.

OUTLET FOR THAT TOO.

THEY DO A REALLY GOOD JOB.

AND I, I DON'T SPEAK FOR THAT CENTER, SO, I MEAN, DON'T ASSUME I'VE MADE AN INVITATION, BUT I THINK, I THINK MAYBE MR. COULD HELP YOU WITH THAT.

BUT I'M ALSO THINKING WITH YOUR SCAM, UM, PROGRAM, I MEAN OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO HAVE A COMPUTER TO TAKE THE CLASS.

NO, THE UH, THE PH SCAMS IS, IT IS JUST A LECTURE, RIGHT? YES.

OH, SO YOU COULD TAKE IT TO EVEN SOME OF THE REC CENTERS AND THEN, BECAUSE I DO, I DO GET YOUR EMAILS AND YOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS AND I SEE THOSE AND I THINK I'M PROBABLY OUGHT GO TO THIS, BUT, YOU KNOW, GETTING, IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE THAT FAR AWAY.

BUT I THINK NO, WE'RE GLAD TO GO.

WE JUST, WE'VE BEEN RESPONDING TO INBOUND REQUESTS AND INVITATIONS.

THAT'S, AND CERTAINLY DO A BETTER JOB MAKING SURE THAT THE REC CENTERS KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT THIS.

WE DIDN'T HAVE THE REC PEOPLE HERE, SO WE'LL SUGGEST THEY, I THINK THAT'D BE A GREAT, UH, PROGRAM TO, TO TANYA AND THE COMPUTER LAB ON THE ROAD OF DALLAS

[00:30:01]

COLLEGE.

THIS IS OUR FIRST VENTURE TO TAKING THESE CLASSES ON THE ROAD.

WE'RE GONNA SEE HOW IT GOES.

WE'VE ACTUALLY JUST TRAINED A VOLUNTEER TO PITCH ONE OF THESE CLASSES.

THAT'S GREAT.

RIGHT NOW IT HAS TO BE STAFF.

WE'VE GOT TWO HARDWORKING STAFF.

BUT THIS IS GOING TO JUST BECOME BIGGER AND BIGGER.

AND SO I, I LIKE THE IDEA THAT THE STAFF IS THAT LET CHINA VOLUNTEERS START TEACHING THESE CLASSES.

RIGHT.

AND THAT WOULD OBVIOUSLY HAVE TO BE IN THE RIGHT SETTING.

YES.

FOR THE COLLEGE.

MUST SOUND LIKE A GOOD PLACE TO START.

WELL, THANK YOU.

CD COLLEGES.

UH, THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES.

COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

OKAY, LET'S CONTINUE.

IS THAT ALL OF THE, ALL OF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGES? I CAN'T REMEMBER WHICH ONES WE ARE SPECIFICALLY.

OURS IS RICHLAND.

RICHLAND DOES THAT.

I FEEL LIKE WE'VE BEEN RICH.

SAY RICHLAND HAS THE SENIOR PROGRAM.

RIGHT.

ALRIGHT, GREAT QUESTION.

THANK YOU FOR, FOR ASKING THOSE CAREGIVER SUPPORT.

SO THIS IS FAMILY CAREGIVERS WHO BASICALLY CALL AND JUST SAY, WHAT DO I DO WITH MOM? I AM WORRIED ABOUT HER.

SHE CANNOT LIVE ALONE.

I DON'T KNOW IF SHE CAN AFFORD A FACILITY.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT REQUIREMENTS THEY HAVE.

COULD SHE STAY AT HOME? SO IT'S, SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO? AND SO WE PROVIDE HOME SAFETY CHECKLIST.

WE PROVIDE INFORMATION ON HOW TO KEEP MOM SAFE AT HOME, WHAT TYPE OF CARE SHE'LL NEED, WHAT COSTS CAN BE COVERED, UM, BASED ON HER INCOME, HER HER ILLNESSES, OR ANY SORT OF DECLINE.

SO WE WORK WITH THEM.

SO WE ONE-ON-ONE SUPPORTIVE COUNSELING TO DO THAT.

WE ALSO HAVE SUPPORT GROUPS.

WE OFFER SUPPORT GROUPS.

THEY MEET MONTHLY VIRTUALLY FOR ADULT CHILDREN, FOR SPOUSES FOR L-G-B-T-Q MEMBERS.

AND FOR MEN, MEN IS THE SMALLEST GROUP BECAUSE YOU MEN DON'T LIKE TO ASK FOR HELP.

BUT I'LL TELL YOU, , BEING IN THE SUPPORT GROUP, YOU'VE LEARNED A LOT ABOUT WHAT PEOPLE ARE STRUGGLING WITH.

UM, AND THEN WE ALSO DO A LOT OF THESE PRESENTATIONS AGAIN ON THE ROAD, YOU KNOW, CAREGIVING, WHERE DO I START, WHAT DO I NEED IN TERMS OF MEDICAL POWERS OF ATTORNEY, MEDICAL DIRECTIVES, OTHER POWERS OF ATTORNEY.

SO WE SERVE ABOUT 2100 PEOPLE A YEAR IN THIS PROGRAM.

AND 84% REPORT LESS STRESS AFTER WORKING WITH US.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO THE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM, I KNOW MANY OF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH THIS PROGRAM.

THIS IS, UH, THE FEDERALLY MANDATED AND FEDERALLY FUNDED LONG-TERM CARE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM, ENSURING EVERY RESIDENT AT NURSING HOME AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES, LICENSE NURSING HOMES AND ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES HAVE AN ADVOCATE TO PROTECT THEIR HEALTH, SAFETY, AND WELFARE.

WE HAVE HAD THIS PROGRAM AT THE SENIOR SOURCE FOR DALLAS COUNTY SINCE THE EARLY SEVENTIES OR MID SEVENTIES I BELIEVE.

SO THERE ARE ABOUT 320 FACILITIES IN DALLAS COUNTY.

THE CONTRACT IS FOR DALLAS COUNTY.

UM, OVERALL 16,000 RESIDENTS.

AND OUR STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS MAKE REGULAR UNANNOUNCED VISITS TO MAKE SURE THOSE RESIDENTS HAVE THE CARE THEY NEED.

THEY GO DOOR TO DOOR ASKING IF THEY HAVE ANY COMPLAINTS, IS THEIR CARE BEING, UM, CONSIDER IF THERE ARE COMPLAINTS WE ASK THE RESIDENT, CAN WE BRING THIS UP TO MANAGEMENT.

MOST OF THE CASES, THOSE, UH, COMPLAINTS ARE RESOLVED RIGHT THERE IN A SATISFAC SATISFAC ROOM.

THAT IN A WAY THAT SATISFAC IS DALLAS ONLY OR DALLAS COUNTY.

THIS IS DALLAS COUNTY.

THE CITY OF DALLAS PROVIDES EXTRA FUNDING.

SO IT'S THE CITY OF GARLAND AND MESQUITE TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE VISITS ARE MADE MORE THAN THE MINIMUM.

THE MINIMUM OR THE STANDARD IS QUARTERLY.

IN DALLAS, CITY OF DALLAS, THOSE VISITS ARE MONTHLY THANKS TO THE FUNDING OF CITY OF DALLAS AND EVERY FACILITY.

EVERY FACILITY.

BUT IT'S JUST LONG-TERM CARE.

IT'S NOT INDEPENDENT LIVING, NOT IN ASSISTED LIVING.

ASSISTED LIVING.

OH, IT'S ASSISTED.

80 ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES.

NOT 85 NURSING HOMES, SKILLED NURSING FACILITIES.

THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE UNLICENSED GROUP HOME IN ARLINGTON OR ALL THOSE DEATHS HAPPEN.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, A WORD THAT YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE IF YOU'RE MOVING SOMEONE INTO A FACILITY IS LICENSED MM-HMM.

UM, YOU DO NOT WANNA SAVE MONEY THAT WAY.

THAT'S FOR SURE.

YOU CAN SEE IN THIS PIE CHART SOME OF THE COMPLAINTS WE ADDRESS.

IT COULD, THEY RANGE FROM NEGLIGENT CARE AND ABUSE TO LACK OF RESPONSIVENESS.

IT COULD GO HOURS WITHOUT A CALL BUTTON BEING ANSWERED.

SHOWERS ARE NOT GIVEN ON TIME FOOD ISSUES.

AND YOU MAY THINK FOOD ISSUES ISN'T SERIOUS.

BUT IF YOU'RE DEPENDENT ON THAT FACILITY FOR FREE MEALS A DAY FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE, YOU HAVE A RIGHT TO COMPLAIN ABOUT FOOD.

WE ALSO EDUCATE CONSUMERS ABOUT THEIR, UH, RESIDENTS RIGHTS.

WE HELP THEM.

WE CAN SAY IF YOU'RE MOVING SOMEONE TO FACILITY, WE CAN HELP YOU.

WE CAN GIVE EXAMPLES, GIVE YOU TIPS TO GO VISIT THE NURSING HOME.

WHAT TO EXPECT, HOW TO ANSWER

[00:35:01]

QUESTIONS.

JUST ONE, ONE QUICK COMMENT ON THE HUMUS WITH THE PROGRAM.

I I THINK THE, UH, IT'S A FEDERALLY MANDATED PROGRAM ACROSS THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.

THAT'S RIGHT.

AND SO IN EVERY COMMUNITY THAT HAS THESE KINDS OF FACILITIES, SOMEBODY IS DOING THIS.

IT'S NOT A UNIFORM WAY THAT IT'S DONE THOUGH.

AND IN DALLAS, THE SENIOR SOURCE HAS TAKEN THIS ON IN A MUCH MORE SERIOUS MANNER THAN MANY OTHER JURISDICTIONS.

AND IF YOU LOOK AT THE PERFORMANCE STATS FOR THE SENIOR SOURCES, UM, PROGRAM AS COMPARED TO THE HOUSTON PROGRAM AND SOME OF THE OTHER MAJOR METRO AREAS, UH, WE'RE REALLY LUCKY THAT THE SENIOR SOURCES WHO THE CONTRACTOR IS HERE BECAUSE THEY OUTPERFORM EVERYBODY ACROSS THE STATE AND ARE BEING, ARE HELD OUT AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE RIGHT WAY TO DO IT.

UH, WHICH IS IMPORTANT.

AND AGAIN, WE'RE SO GRATEFUL FOR THE CITY OF DALLAS FUNDING TO GIVE THAT EXTRA STAFFING.

STACY WOULD THIS COVERED ALSO, I DON'T EVEN KNOW IF THERE ARE ANY OF THEM HERE IN DALLAS, BUT ADULT DAYCARE FACILITIES? NO.

UH, THOSE POLICE ARE, IF THEY'RE UNDER FOUR HOURS, THEY DON'T HAVE TO BE LICENSED OR APPROVED OVER FOUR HOURS.

THERE'S LICENSING REQUIREMENTS, I THINK SIMILAR TO CHILDCARE, BUT NO, THEY DON'T HAVE, THEY WOULD NOT COVER DATE POLICE.

THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.

UM, THIS SLIDE HERE, WE ALSO, THE CITY PROVIDES, UM, PARTIAL FUNDING FOR OUR FRIENDLY VISITOR MANAGER.

I DON'T KNOW THOSE OF YOU WHO'VE KNOWN.

MARSHA EVANS, WHO'S BEEN WITH US FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS NOW.

SHE PLACES ABOUT 3000 VOLUNTEERS IN NURSING HOMES.

WE KNOW THAT FROM OUR OWN OBSERVATION, 50% OF RESIDENTS NEVER RECEIVE A VISITOR.

SO WE PLACE CORPORATE GROUPS, FRIEND TROOPS, BOY SCOUT TROOPS, CHURCH GROUPS TO PLAY BINGO, TO HAVE FRENCH HERE DO OUTDOOR PROJECTS WITH THE RESIDENTS, KNOWING THAT MAY BE THE ONLY PERSON THEY SEE.

SURE.

IT'S NOT AS STAFF.

AND I WAS GONNA SAY, EXCUSE ME, I, UM, HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH THAT WITH, UM, THE FIRST SLIDE.

TALK ABOUT THE UM, IF YOU HAVE A CONCERN.

I HAVE, I HAD A SISTER IN A LONG TERM AND I HAD A COMPLAINT AND OUR CONCERN AND IT WAS TAKEN CARE OF JUST VERY FAST.

AND MARSHA GOES TO MY CHURCH.

OKAY.

AND I KNOW, UM, IS' EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, OUTSTANDING PROGRAM.

'CAUSE THEY WERE ALWAYS HAVING EVENTS AND THINGS AT THE, AT THE FACILITIES AND YOU KNOW, BRINGING THEM SOCKS AND PRIZES AND BINGO AND ALL OF THAT.

SO THAT, THOSE TWO PROGRAMS I'M LEAVING TO, BECAUSE I KNOW AND HAD EXPERIENCE WITH SEEING BACK.

THAT'S WHY DID NO THANK YOU.

SO THAT A FACILITY, YOUR SISTER WILL MM-HMM.

.

OKAY.

AND THEN, UM, CHAIR CLIENT JUST ASKED FOR AN OMBUDSMAN UPDATE.

OKAY.

ONE QUICK QUESTION THEN ON YOU USE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FRIENDLY VISITORS.

ARE, ARE THERE ALSO VOLUNTEERS USED FOR WE DO HAVE VOLUNTEERS.

WE GO THROUGH THE SAME TRAINING THAT THE STAFF ON THOSE MEN DO DO.

AND SO THEY REALLY KIND OF STEP IN WHERE STAFF CAN'T PROVIDE THAT EXTRA LEVEL OF CARE.

THIS, WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT, BUT ONE OF THE THINGS WE'VE SEEN, I THINK I MENTIONED ON ISSUES FACING OLDER ADULTS IS COVID CAUSED JUST SOME COMPLACENCY.

JUST IT'S EASIER STAY HOME THAN GET OUT.

WE USED TO HAVE 15 OR 20 VOLUNTEER OMBUDSMAN.

MOST WERE OLDER ADULTS 'CAUSE THEY HAD THE TIME, THE INCLINATION TO VISITS.

AND WE ARE REALLY, REALLY WORKING HARD AND STRUGGLING TO, TO REPLACE THOSE VOLUNTEERS.

TALK MORE ABOUT VOLUNTEERING.

BUT YES, WE DO HAVE VOLUNTEER OMBUDSMAN.

OKAY.

THIS IS REALLY HARD TO SEE, BUT WE JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A QUICK, UM, UPDATE ON THE SPEND PROGRAM.

SO RIGHT NOW THE CENSUS OCCUPANCY RATE AND FACILITIES ARE 60%.

THAT IS REALLY LOW.

THERE WERE SO MANY FACILITIES, ESPECIALLY THE FANCY ONES BUILT BEFORE COVID AND COVID HAD.

AND EVERYBODY BROUGHT THE PEOPLE UP.

PEOPLE AREN'T PUTTING BACK AS MUCH.

UM, THERE HAVE BEEN ACTUALLY THREE NURSING HOMES CLOSED IN THE LAST YEAR.

AND COMMON COMPLAINTS INCLUDE, UH, ILLEGAL DISCHARGES FROM FACILITIES OFTEN FORM OF RETALIATION.

SO SOMEONE'S, THEIR STAFF JUST DOESN'T WANNA DEAL WITH SOMEONE ANYMORE AND THEY TRY TO KICK 'EM OUT.

POOR QUALITY OF CARE AND THAT ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS.

AND SO MUCH OF THAT IS SHORTAGE OF STAFF.

NURSING HOME EMPLOYEES ARE, ARE PAID THE LOWEST.

SO STAFFING IS A REAL, IS A REAL CHALLENGE.

THERE ARE COVID OUTBREAKS AND WHEN THERE ARE COVID OUTBREAKS, THE OMBUDSMAN HAVE TO WEAR, YOU KNOW, FULL MASKS AND NINE TO FIVE MASKS AND BECOME SO HARD TO COMMUNICATE.

SO THAT'S REALLY FRUSTRATING.

THE GOOD THING IS VISITATION HAS NOT STOPPED ANYMORE.

THAT WAS SO DETRIMENTAL AS Y'ALL KNOW AND HEARD FOR RESIDENTS DURING COVID.

I MENTIONED RECRUITMENT OF VOLUNTEERS IS SO

[00:40:01]

CHALLENGING.

POST COVID PEOPLE AREN'T JUST HESITANT TO GO INTO A NURSING HOME NOW.

I THINK THAT'S AN EXCUSE WE NEED TO GET OVER THAT, BUT IT'S, IT'S A REALITY.

UM, INVESTMENT ARE ENCOUNTERING MORE COMPLEX CASES, SO THOSE TAKE LONGER TO RESOLVE.

AND, UM, LOTS OF TURNOVER AS I MENTIONED, NOT JUST AT THE, UM, AT THE STAFF LEVEL, BUT ALSO ADMINISTRATIVE POSITIONS WHICH MAKES COMPLAINTS GETTING RESOLVED MORE CHALLENGING.

AND THEN RESIDENTS STILL CONTINUE TO SHOW SIGNS OF ANXIETY DUE TO COVID AND THEY'RE CHOOSING TO STAY IN THEIR ROOMS AND THAT SOCIAL ISOLATION CAN BE REAL DETRIMENTAL.

SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO GET OUT AND THE QUALITY OF CARE HAS WORSENED BECAUSE OF STAFF CONTROL, WHICH IS OKAY.

TURNING OVER TO OUR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS. ON THE NEXT SLIDE, I'M GONNA GIVE YOU AN UPDATE.

WE HAVE THREE VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS THAT ARE, UM, FUNDED BY AMERICORPS SENIORS.

SO YOU MAY BE FAMILIAR WITH AMERICORPS OVERALL, THERE'S A SENIOR PROGRAM AND I'LL TAKE YOU THROUGH THE THREE PROGRAMS THAT THE SENIOR SOURCE HAS HERE.

FIRST ARE OUR SENIOR COMPANIONS AND THE SLIDE WILL COME.

OKAY, NEXT SLIDE.

SO SENIOR COMPANIONS ARE OLDER ADULT VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE PLACED WITH HOME BOUND SENIORS TO PROVIDE COMPANIONSHIP SO THEY CAN WATCH TV, PLAY GAMES, RUN ERRANDS.

THE COMPANION VOLUNTEER CAN HAVE MEDICATION REMINDERS, DO SOME LIGHTHOUSE WORK.

THIS IS A WIN-WIN WIN.

IT'S A WIN FOR THAT HOMEBOUND SENIOR BECAUSE THEY'RE ABLE TO STAY AT HOME AND NOT GO INTO A LONG-TERM CARE FACILITY.

IT'S A WIN FOR THAT FAMILY CAREGIVER WHO GETS A BREAK ANYWHERE FROM FIVE TO 15 HOURS A WEEK SO THEY CAN GET THEIR OWN NEEDS TAKEN.

BUT IT'S A WIN WINFORD.

THESE COMPANION VOLUNTEERS, THESE COMPANION VOLUNTEERS ARE LOW INCOME VOLUNTEERS.

THEY CAN MAKE UP TO TWO TIMES THE POVERTY LEVEL.

THEY RECEIVE A STIPEND OUT A STIPEND FOR THEIR VOLUNTEERING.

THEY ALSO RECEIVE MEAL AND TRANSPORTATION REIMBURSEMENT AND MONTHLY TRAINING AT THE SENIOR SOURCE.

THIS IS A WONDERFUL PROGRAM.

WE'VE HAD IT SINCE THE EARLY EIGHTIES AT THE SENIOR SOURCE.

UM, WE HAVE ABOUT 65 SENIOR COMPANION VOLUNTEERS.

THEY CARE FOR ABOUT A HUNDRED, 110 HOMEBOUND SENIORS.

SO IF YOU'VE GOT SOMEONE A, A, A COMPANION WHO'S LOOKING, OR SOMEONE WHO'S LOOKING TO GET BACK INTO, UM, JUST GIVING SOME OF THEIR TIME BACK, THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM TO CONSIDER.

AND SO PLEASE CALL US.

UM, WE LOVE OUR SENIOR COMPANIONS.

YOU EVER WANNA HAVE YOUR DAY BRIGHT AND COME TO ONE OF OUR TRAINING, UM, SERVICES AND, AND SEE THE COMPANIONS WORKING SO HARD BECAUSE THE NEXT SLIDE, THE SISTER PROGRAM TO SENIOR COMPANIONS ON THE NEXT SLIDE IS ONE MORE.

THERE YOU GO.

THERE WE GO.

FOSTER GRANDPARENTS.

SO THESE ARE ALSO LOW INCOME SENIORS WHO, UH, RECEIVE A STIPEND FOR THEIR TIME.

THESE OLDER ADULT VOLUNTEERS ARE PLACED IN CHILDCARE SETTINGS, SETTINGS, AND THEY ARE ASSIGNED TO A CHILD WITH SPECIAL NEEDS AND THEY'RE THERE TO PROVIDE ANY GREAT THINGS THAT GRANDMOTHERS DO.

HUGS, LOVE AND ATTENTION.

THIS IS NOT RELATED TO THE FOSTER CARE SYSTEM AT ALL, BUT FOSTER CARE AND PARENTS ARE PLACED IN CHILDCARE SETTINGS SUCH AS HEAD START, BRIAN'S HOUSE CALL YOUR CENTER AND ANNIE'S PLACE.

AND THEY'RE THERE TO PROVIDE THAT EXTRA LOVE, CARE, AND ATTENTION.

WE ARE PROUD TO SAY THAT OUR FOSTER GRANDPARENT CORE UP TO 98 VOLUNTEERS IS FULLY STAFFED NOW SINCE COVID TOOK A LONG TIME.

THESE VOLUNTEERS ARE WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS FOR THESE KIDS.

UM, AND THEIR OUTCOMES.

THEY'RE ALSO GREAT FOR THE TEACHERS.

THE TEACHERS HAVE AN EXTRA SET OF EYES IN THE EARS AND NA YES.

SO NO YOU SAW THE BUBBLE MY HEAD.

SO YOU SAY YOU'RE FULLY STAFFED.

ARE THERE OTHER DAYCARE FACILITIES THAT IF YOU HAD PEOPLE AVAILABLE, WOULD WOULD WANT THIS? I I WAS TALKING TO TORY MANNI OF THE, WE HAVE SOME CHILD DO SOME CHILDCARE GROUP, UM, SETTINGS SO THAT WE WORK WITH CHILDCARE GROUP AND I THINK THEY'VE GOT SOMEBODY IN EVERY ONE OF THEIR CENTERS.

THEY DO.

IT'S I THINK OUR BIGGEST PARTNER, BUT, BUT THEY DON'T, THEY DON'T ENCOMPASS ALL OF THE, YOU KNOW, THE CENTERS.

I'M JUST CURIOUS AS TO WHETHER IF YOU HAD MORE VOLUNTEERS, THERE WERE PLACES FOR THEM TO GO, I WOULD IMAGINE THAT WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR, FOR NEW PARTNERS.

I THINK ONE OF THE, UH, ISSUES IS ALTHOUGH WE'VE GOT OUR FULL 98 KIND OF DOWN TO 15 TO 20, SO WE CAN HAVE MORE VOLUNTEERS WORKING.

SOME PEOPLE DON'T WANNA WORK AS LONG.

SO WE CAN DO MORE VOLUNTEERS ON LOWER HOURS AT FEWER HOURS.

AND THE VOLUNTEERS ARE SENIOR LOW INCOME SENIORS, IS THAT CORRECT? THAT'S RIGHT.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

[00:45:02]

AND THEN OUR RSVP PROGRAM IS OUR FINAL VOLUNTEER PROGRAM.

THIS IS NOT, DOES NOT HAVE AN INCOME RESTRICTION.

THIS IS FOR ANY PERSON OVER 55-YEAR-OLD WHO WANTS TO VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME AND WE PLACE THEM IN OTHER NONPROFITS.

AND SO WE'RE ABLE TO GIVE OTHER NONPROFITS, FOR INSTANCE, UM, THE RVP VOLUNTEERS WE HAVE AT THE SENIOR SOURCE, THEY ARE DOING DATA ENTRY, THEY ARE DOING FILING.

THEY CAN ANSWER THE PHONES DURING MEETINGS.

WE'VE GOT RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE.

THEY WORK THE RECEPTION DESK.

THEY DO WORK IN THE CLOSE CLOSET AT WHITE ROCK CENTER OF HOPE.

THEY'RE AT THE EISMAN CENTER BEING USHERED.

SO THESE ARE GREAT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.

WE HAVE VERY SMALL PRINT, BUT LOTS OF PARTNERS AROUND DALLAS WHERE WE CAN PLACE VOLUNTEERS.

SO STIPENDS WITH THAT.

THERE ARE NO STIPENDS WITH THAT.

THE NEXT SLIDE HAS, YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO TO THE THEATER NEXT CLIENT.

UM, YOU CAN SEE WE'VE GOT THIS DAY I WILL SEND AN UPDATE.

WE'VE GOT VOLUNTEER INFORMATION SESSIONS.

WE ARE STILL ACTIVELY RECRUITING VOLUNTEERS POST COVID.

PEOPLE JUST GOT COMFORTABLE STAYING AT HOME AND WATCHING WHATEVER'S ON NETFLIX.

SO WE STILL WANT PEOPLE TO VOLUNTEER.

VOLUNTEERS DON'T KNOW, WE'RE SO CRITICAL.

SO WE'VE BEEN OFFERING LOTS OF TRAINING SESSIONS TO KEEP VOLUNTEERS, UM, ACTIVE.

AND OUR NEXT SLIDE, JUST WANTED TO LET Y'ALL KNOW, UM, ABOUT OUR FINANCIALS.

SO, SO WE HAVE ABOUT A SEVEN AND A HALF MILLION DOLLAR BUDGET.

HALF OF THOSE FUNDS COME FROM INDIVIDUALS, FOUNDATIONS AND CORPORATIONS.

THEY COME FROM PROCEEDS AT THE LUNCHEON THAT YOU ALL EXPERIENCE.

UM, SO WE'RE EXCITED FOR THAT.

INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION IS 33% COME FROM GOVERNMENT GRANTS LIKE THE CITY OF DALLAS, FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, DALLAS COUNTY.

AND THEN 77% OF THE MONEY THAT WE SPENT ARE SPENT DIRECTLY ON THE PROGRAMS THAT WE SERVE.

AND THEN THE FINAL SLIDE, JUST, UM, OUR ANNUAL REVENUE.

SO FORTUNATELY WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO INCREASE OUR REVENUE TO SERVE MORE SENIORS EVERY YEAR.

SO WE'RE GRATEFUL FOR PEOPLE CARE ABOUT SENIORS FOR ONCE YOU GUYS, THIS IS AWESOME.

AND SO WE WANNA CONTINUE TO KEEP THAT SPOTLIGHT ON SENIORS TO KEEP OUR NAME OUT THERE MORE SO THAT PEOPLE CAN KNOW ABOUT US.

THEY CAN HAVE CALL US YOURSELF, WORK FOR A FRIEND, PLEASE LET US KNOW THAT WE ARE OPEN TO EVERYBODY IN DALLAS COUNTY AT AGE 50 OR 55 PLUS DEPENDING ON, UH, THE PROGRAM TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE.

HOW MUCH YOUR 60TH ANNIVERSARY FUNDRAISING PROGRAM, UH, CHANGED YOUR REVENUES OVER THE LAST 'CAUSE THAT WAS MULTI-YEAR.

YEAH, SO THAT PROGRAM, UM, SO WE RAISED $2 MILLION OF FUNDING ABOUT, UM, 30% OF WHICH WENT TO TRYING TO INCREASE OUR AWARENESS OF VISIBILITY.

A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE PAST HAVE HAVE FROWNED UPON NONPROFITS MARKETING BECAUSE THEY, YOU SHOULD BE GIVING THAT MONEY TO THE PROGRAM.

BUT IF PEOPLE DUNNO ABOUT THE PROGRAM, HOW ARE THEY? SO OUR DONORS WERE VERY, THEY UNDERSTOOD THAT AND SO THEY WERE VERY GENEROUS IN PROVIDING THAT AWARENESS.

SO WE HAVE DONE LOTS OF, ALL THESE ACRONYMS, STRAIGHT SEO AND SEA AND SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION AND GOOGLE AND FACEBOOK ADS.

SO WE'VE BEEN SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY ON THAT.

THIS, THOSE $2 MILLION IS SPREAD OUT OVER FOUR YEARS.

SO IT'S ABOUT HALF MILLION DOLLARS A YEAR ON THAT SEVEN, SEVEN AND A HALF MILLION BUDGET.

WE'VE ALSO LOT THE OTHER THIRD OF THAT MONEY WAS SPENT ON THIS, THESE TECHNOLOGY PROGRAMS AND ACCESS AND MAKING SURE OUR COMPUTERS WE HAD IN OUR COMPUTER LAB WERE LIKE FROM 2008.

SO CLEARLY THOSE NEEDED UPGRADES.

WE HAVE IPADS FOR THE IPAD ESSENTIALS CLASS.

YES.

SO GOING ALONG, UH, THE LINES OF HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU? UM, SO I'VE ACTUALLY HAD A REQUEST FROM MY CITY COUNCIL PERSON, UH, ASKING IF WE COULD GET SENIOR SOURCE.

THEY HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL PREVIOUSLY.

I SAID I KNEW I WAS GOING TO BE HERE TODAY AND ACTUALLY I WAS GONNA CALL YOU PETER, BUT THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY.

WHO, UM, DO THEY CONTACT? THEY THEY'RE GONNA DO A SENIOR COMMUNITY MEETING AND WOULD LOVE SENIOR SOURCE TO BE THERE.

YES.

WHO'S THE PERSON? HAVE HIM CALL ME AND I'LL DIRECT HIM TO RENEE PERRY.

OUR PROGRAM, I MEAN I KNOW RENEE, RIGHT? YES.

RENEE WILL BE GREAT.

OKAY, GREAT.

OKAY.

AND WE TRY TO MEET WITH COMMISSIONER.

DO YOU HAVE CARDS? SO THAT, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.

THAT'S THAT.

I MEAN I'VE HAD THE REQUEST .

RIGHT, THANK YOU.

AND WE'VE TRIED TO MEET WITH NEW COMMISSIONERS, ADDING NEW AND CITY COUNCIL PEOPLE AT THE HAS THEY CAN ONBOARD AND IT'S PROBABLY GOOD JUST TO GO EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS TO START.

REMIND NEED HERE WE ARE.

IT IS ACTUALLY DISTRICT 11 AND SHE MADE

[00:50:01]

A REQUEST LAST WEEK AND I RIGHT SPRING BREAK.

I I WAS SOLE PERSON IN THE OFFICE.

.

RIGHT.

HAVE YOU MET WITH KATHY? STU? I HAVE NOT.

NO.

I, I BETTER, I'M DOING A REPORT THURSDAY NIGHT.

SHE SAID DO A REPORT THURSDAY.

ALRIGHT, DAVID.

THERE.

I NEED A TWO MORE RIGHT DAYS.

ALRIGHT, LET'S SEE HOW MANY I'M DONE.

WHAT JU GUYS YOUR MARKETING BUDGET.

THAT'S RIGHT.

YOU GO.

I'M SURPRISED YOU DIDN'T HAVE 'EM, RIGHT? LIKE WHO'S CARRYING CARDS? , WE'RE GOOD IF YOU, UH, IS THERE ANYBODY ATTENDING ONLINE THAT HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR STACY? I, YES.

LISA.

LISA, JUST A BASIC QUESTION.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO GET IN TOUCH WITH THE SENIOR SOURCE? I HAVE A NEIGHBOR IN DIRE NEED AND ONE OF HIS NEIGHBORS HAS BEEN TRYING TO GET AHOLD OF Y'ALL AND SAID THEY DON'T GET ANY RESPONSE.

NOW Y'ALL, IT MAKES ME SICK TO HEAR THAT.

PLEASE.

THAT, UM, LISA, YOU CAN, THE WEBSITE CONTACT FORM, IF YOU'LL FILL THAT OUT AND PUT YOUR NAME ON THERE.

I'LL MAKE SURE THAT I SEE IT.

YOU CAN GET IT RESOLVED? I DO.

OKAY, PERFECT.

THE UTILITY ASSISTANCE THIS YEAR, THE BACKLOG HAS BEEN OVERWHELMING.

WE SEARCHED SIX SENIOR SENIORS WITH THEIR ATMOS GAS BILLS BACK IN FEBRUARY.

WE GOT SO MANY PHONE CALLS, JUST THOUSANDS IS THEY WEREN'T, THEY WEREN'T OLDER ADULTS.

THEY DIDN'T LIVE TO DALLAS.

AND SO JUST GOING THROUGH THOSE, WE APOLOGIZE.

THERE'S BEEN A BACKLOG.

OH, THIS GUY HITS PRETTY MUCH EVERY TALKING POINT.

.

SO I'LL, I'LL FILL IT OUT AND GET IN CONTACT WITH YOU.

IT'S, THANK YOU.

PROBABLY GONNA BE A CHALLENGE TO SAY THE LEAST.

WE KIND OF, I THINK I KNOW MY TEAM LIKES THE CHALLENGES.

WELL, WELL I I'VE GOT 'EM.

.

THANKS.

ANYONE ELSE ONLINE? ANYONE ELSE HERE? YEAH, SO SO KNOWING THAT THE CITY, UH, DOES IT, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL AGENCIES THAT DO IT RIGHT? IS THERE A WAY THAT YOU ALL GET TOGETHER, UH, SO THAT EFFORTS ARE NOT DUPLICATED? SO TO MAXIMIZE WHAT YOU GUYS ARE ALL THE PEOPLE SERVING THE NEEDS OF SENIORS ARE ABLE TO DO? WELL, I KNOW THAT WE ARE, UM, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL STARTING KIND OF A, A COMMISSION GROUP ABOUT OLDER ADULTS.

AND SO THAT'S COMING UP, I THINK IN APRIL.

I SAW SOMETHING TODAY.

YEAH.

IN TERMS OF THE UTILITY ASSISTANCE, IT'S REALLY KIND OF ON THE, THE FUND.

SO WHY TXU AND ATMOS, THEY WILL MAKE SURE THOSE SERVICES AREN'T DUPLICATED.

UH, OR THOSE PAYMENTS.

YOU COULDN'T THE OMBUDS, LIKE THE O LIKE THERE'S SEVERAL AGENCIES THAT HAVE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAMS. SO I'M JUST CURIOUS FOR ALL OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE ABLE TO DO IN OUR CITY.

I JUST AM ASKING IF YOU GUYS ARE TALKING TO ONE ANOTHER, I'M CONFUSED.

WHAT, WHAT ARE YOU TALKING O AND ANY OF THE PROGRAMS THAT SENIOR SOURCE DOES, LIKE THE OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM, ARE THEY THE ONLY GROUP? WE ARE THE ONLY, THEY'RE THE ONLY ONES IN DALLAS, CANADA.

THEY'RE THE ONLY ONE IN DALLAS COUNTY THAT HAS IT.

CORRECT.

THAT'S RIGHT.

SO ANYBODY THAT NEEDS HELP KNOWS TO GO TO SENIOR SOURCE.

THAT I GUESS THAT'S THAT.

AND WE GET A LOT OF REFERRALS FROM THE CITY.

ALRIGHT.

THAT WAS SO RIGHT.

THAT WAS MY QUESTION.

THERE ARE LOTS OF, THERE ARE SEVERAL NONPROFITS WHO DO UTILITY BILLS.

PEOPLE COME IF SHARING LIFE AND ARLINGTON DOESN'T, THEY REFER US IF THEY'RE OVER 55, WE REFER THEM, YOU KNOW, TO THEM.

SO THERE'S COMMUNICATION.

I MEAN, I THINK REALLY REFERRALS ARE REALLY OUR NUMBER ONE SOURCE SIM CLIENTS.

RIGHT.

SO STACY, IT, IT'S ONE THING TO TRY TO LOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE GETTING, GIVE YOU MONEY TO SUPPORT THE SENIOR SOURCE AND, YOU KNOW, YOU CAN GO TO THE DVS AND FIND THE RICH PEOPLE AND YOU KNOW, YOU'VE GOT THAT.

BUT HOW DO YOU, WHAT'S THE BEST WAY THE SENIOR SOURCE IS FOUND IN ACTUALLY REACHING SENIORS TO EDUCATE THEM ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE? BECAUSE THE CITY STRUGGLES.

WE ALL STRUGGLE WITH WHAT THE CITY DOES.

AND SO I'M CURIOUS FROM YOUR STANDPOINT.

WELL, WE'VE SET A GOAL.

OUR GOAL IS TO MAKE, I THINK IT'S THIS YEAR, 300 PRESENTATIONS OUT IN THE COMMUNITY A YEAR.

AND SO WE ARE, SO AGAIN, A LOT ARE INBOUND REQUESTS.

WE NEED TO DO BETTER ABOUT MAKING THOSE, UM, AND OUT THOSE PROACTIVE OUTREACH WITH THE LIBRARIES AND THE SENIOR CENTERS.

AND THEN WE TRY TO MARKET, YOU KNOW, THROUGH OUR EMAILS.

AND TO SOME EXTENT SOCIAL, SOCIAL MEDIA DOESN'T HAVE A GREAT, JUST LEARNING MORE ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA AND DOESN'T HAVE A GREAT REACH.

IT CAN BE COMPLIMENTARY, BUT OUR EMAIL DATABASE IS ABOUT 10,000 PEOPLE.

SO

[00:55:01]

WE CAN COMMUNICATE THAT WAY AND THEN WE RELY ON THE PARTNERS, YOU KNOW, SO IF WE'RE GONNA BE AT A SENIOR CENTER IN THE LIBRARY, WE'RE HOPING THAT THEY'RE SPREADING THAT NEWS, YOU KNOW, IN THEIR EMAIL AS WELL.

BUT IT IS, IT'S HARD TO GET PEOPLE'S ATTENTION.

IT REALLY IS.

CAN'T REALLY COMMUNICATE IN ENOUGH.

I WAS, UH, MEETING WITH SOMEBODY IN DISTRICT FIVE AND THEY SAID, WELL, FACEBOOK DOESN'T WORK FOR US.

EMAIL DOESN'T WORK FOR US PRIMARILY BECAUSE THEY CONSIDER THEMSELVES IN A DIGITAL DIVIDE.

LIKE THERE IS NO SERVICE.

AND SO TRYING TO GO THAT WAY DOESN'T EVEN WORK.

WE HAVE DONE MEETINGS, PARTICULARLY POVERTY, YOU KNOW, WE'VE GOT OUR, UM, BP AIR CONDITIONING DRIVE COMING UP THIS SUMMER.

WE'RE GOING TO BE DOWN IN, UH, CEDAR HILL OR ONE IN JUNE AND THEN WEST ALICE IN JULY.

AND SO THAT WE'RE DOING MAILERS, POST PARK MAILERS FOR OUR VOLUNTEER INFORMATION SESSIONS.

AND THAT'S AN EXPENSE.

IT'S NOT, IT'S NOT CHEAP, BUT IT IS IMPORTANT TO US TO DO THOSE FLYERS.

WE'VE DONE SOME RADIO, UM, WE DO A LITTLE BIT OF, UH, PRINT DALLAS MORNING NEWS.

OUR FOLKS READ THE DALLAS MORNING NEWS, SO WE'LL DO SOME ADVERTISING THERE AS WELL.

THANK YOU ALL.

THANK YOU ALL.

THANK YOU.

LAST QUESTION, I WOULD, ARE THERE PROGRAMS OF YOURS THAT ARE BEING CONSTRAINED BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCE RESOURCES? OR IS IT, I MEAN, IF, IF ALL OF A SUDDEN YOUR MARKETING WORKED AND YOU HAD THAT 10 OR 20% INCREASE IN CALL VOLUME, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO DEAL WITH IT? I THINK THE, THE ONE PROGRAM WHERE WE'RE SEEING THE MOST CONSTRAINT IS ON, IN THE ELDER FINANCIAL SAFETY CENTER BECAUSE THE, JUST WITH INFLATION, WITH THE UNAFFORDABILITY OF HOUSING, AS YOU ALL KNOW, OR APARTMENTS, THOSE COSTS CONTINUE TO INCREASE.

SO IT'S A LOT OF TIMES SERVING THOSE KIND OF BASIC NEEDS, THOSE UTILITY BILLS.

BUT THESE COMPLEX CASES IN MONEY MANAGEMENT, BUDGETING, EMPLOYMENT, THOSE THAT ARE SKILLED SOCIAL WORKERS WANT TO DO, THEY SPEND A LOT OF THEIR TIME DOING UTILITY ASSISTANCE.

SO WE'RE TRYING TO REDIRECT, FIND MORE EFFICIENT WAYS TO HANDLE SOME OF THOSE KIND SHORT TERM CALLS TO, TO SPEND TIME ON THOSE COMPLEX CASES.

SO IF WE HAD MORE MONEY, IT WOULD BE ON THOSE KIND OF COMPLEX CASES.

UM, TECHNOLOGY, YOU KNOW, TWO TRAINERS IS NOT ENOUGH.

I THINK IT MAKES SENSE TO TRAINING VOLUNTEERS FIRST.

SEE HOW WE CAN GET THAT WAY.

BUT I THINK WE'RE GONNA NEED MORE TECHNOLOGY TRAINERS.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR, UH, TO SEE EVERYBODY APPRECI.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO.

NEXT UP IS THE, UH, PARK REC DEPARTMENT.

LINDSAY'S HERE TODAY.

LINDSEY RIDER.

GOOD AFTERNOON.

HOW IS EVERYONE? GOOD AFTERNOON.

LINDSAY RIDER, THE SENIOR PROGRAM DIVISION OF SERVICE AREA MANAGER.

I BROUGHT MY SIDE PICK LATRICE WITH ME FOR BACKUP IN CASE THERE'S SOMETHING THAT I DON'T HAVE THE ANSWER TO ALL.

AS EVERYBODY KNOWS, I TRANSITIONED IN THIS POSITION ABOUT FIVE MONTHS AGO AND IT'S STILL A LEARNING CURVE FOR ME.

I TRIED MY BEST TO GET AS MUCH AS I CAN, BUT HERE WE ARE.

.

ALL RIGHT, SO I'M GONNA GIVE A QUICK PRESENTATION OVER THE PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT AND A QUICK PROGRAM OVERVIEW.

UM, WE ARE COMMITTED TO ENHANCING THE QUALITY OF LIVES OF OUR ACTIVE SENIORS AND ADULTS BY PROVIDING RECREATION AND LEISURE ACTIVITIES, UM, TO COMPLIMENT A FULL AND REWARDING LIFE.

AND OF COURSE, WE HAVE OUR FIVE CORE AREAS THAT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PROGRAMMING, WE TRY TO FOCUS ON THESE FIVE CORE AREAS, HEALTH AND WELLNESS, SOCIALIZATION, COMPETITION, PLAY, SPECIAL INTEREST PROGRAMS AND EVENTS.

IN FISCAL YEAR 2223, WE SERVED, WE OFFERED OVER 60,000, 63,000 PROGRAM HOURS THAT WERE OFFERED IN OUR SENIOR AREA THROUGH THE DALLAS PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT.

AND WE SERVED JUST OVER 7,000, OR WE HAD JUST OVER 7,000 SENIOR PARTICIPANTS REGISTERED IN 2223.

NEXT.

SO OUR UM, OUR SENIOR PROGRAM DIVISION, WE OFFER THE ASAP PROGRAM, WHICH IS OUR ACTIVE SENIOR ADULT PROGRAM PROGRAMS ARE OFFERED UNDER THE SENIOR PROGRAM DIVISION AND CATEGORIZED AS THE SENIOR, THE ACTIVE SENIOR AND ADULT PROGRAM, THE ASAP PROGRAM.

AND IT'S OFFERED AT 43 OF OUR RECREATION CENTERS.

UM, WE HAVE FIVE DEDICATED SENIOR CENTERS.

UM, THEY OFFER OUR PROGRAMS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY FROM 9:00 AM TO 4:00 PM AND THE OTHER LOCATIONS OFFER PROGRAMMING FROM 9:00 AM TO 2:00 PM MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

AND FRIDAYS WERE RECENTLY ADDED A YEAR AGO.

LATRICE MM-HMM, .

UM, SO WE'RE STILL STRUGGLING WITH PROGRAMMING ON FRIDAYS, TRY AND DRAW EVERYBODY IN 'CAUSE THEY'RE

[01:00:01]

USED TO THAT MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY TIMEFRAME.

BUT WE'RE PROGRAMMING ON FRIDAYS NOW.

UM, AND THEN WE HAVE OUR FIVE DEDICATED SENIOR CENTERS, MARCUS ANNEX SINGING HILLS, WILLIE B. JOHNSON, UM, AND THEN OUR PARTNERSHIP BUILDING WITH WALNUT CHARITABLE FOUNDATION SENIOR ACTIVITY CENTER.

SO THIS IS OUR RE OUR RE REGISTRATION NUMBERS AND TRENDS, UM, IN THE, THE BLUE.

THOSE ARE OUR GOALS SET FOR EACH YEAR.

AND THEN THE ORANGE, THOSE ARE OUR ACTUAL NUMBERS.

UM, YES, I WAS A LITTLE CONSERVATIVE IN SETTING THIS YEAR'S GOAL JUST TO SEE WHAT I WAS GETTING MYSELF INTO THIS YEAR.

.

SO I EXPECT TO HAVE HIGHER GOALS MOVING FORWARD.

UM, SO WE ARE ON SET TO, UM, TO OF COURSE BEAT THE $6,000, THE 6,000 REGISTRATION GOALS.

UM, AND THEN OUR PARTICIPANTS, IF YOU SEE IN 21, 22 WE'RE SLIGHTLY SLOWER, UM, WE'RE, IT TOOK A LITTLE WHILE TO GET OUR SENIORS REENGAGED TO THE PROGRAM AND GETTING OUT AND ENJOYING THEMSELVES OUTSIDE OF THEIR HOUSE.

OKAY.

UM, THIS IS GONNA BE OUR GENDER BREAKDOWN AND AS STACY SAID, OUR MEN ARE A LITTLE BIT SLOWER ENGAGING IN OUR PROGRAMS THAN WOMEN, BUT THAT'S OKAY.

WE'RE GONNA GET YOU IN THE CENTER SOMEHOW SOME WAY.

.

UM, SO, UM, OUR WOMEN ARE OUR MOST ACTIVE IN OUR SENIOR PROGRAM.

THIS IS GONNA BE A COMPARISON FROM FISCAL YEAR 23, 22, 23 TO WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY SITTING AT, UM, YEAR TO DATE FOR THE FIRST QUARTER THROUGH JANUARY THE 31ST.

SO THAT'S FOUR MONTHS.

FOUR MONTHS.

YES.

THE FIRST QUARTER I, IT STARTED QUARTER, I'M SORRY, LAST QUARTER PLUS JANUARY.

LAST QUARTER, PLUS JANUARY.

I APOLOGIZE.

THANKS FOR CATCHING.

I GOT, I GOT IT LAST QUARTER PLUS JANUARY IN ALL OF THIS .

THANK YOU.

IT'S A FISCAL YEAR ADJUSTMENT.

THERE WE GO.

YEAH.

UM, ON THE NEXT ONE IS OUR AGE BREAKDOWN.

SO OUR, OUR GREATEST, UM, OUR GREATEST ATTENDING IS THE 75 PLUS OUR SLOWEST IS THE 60 TO 64, WHICH I KNOW SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL IN THE WORKFORCE, STILL BEING, YOU KNOW, DOING THAT.

AND SO WE ARE LOOKING TO PROGRAM, UM, LATER IN THE AFTERNOONS, MAINLY AT OUR, OUR LATE, OUR FIVE REC CENTERS.

SO PROGRAMMING PAST THAT NOON HOUR, BECAUSE WE GET IN THE HABIT OF, OH, WELL NOBODY WANTS TO PARTICIPATE AFTER LUNCH.

I WAS LIKE, NO, NO, NO.

THERE'S PEOPLE THAT WANNA PARTICIPATE.

SO I'VE ASKED ALL FOUR OF THOSE SENIOR CENTERS AND FIVE, WELL, MID DOES A GREAT JOB AT IT.

UM, THE OTHER FOUR REC CENTERS TO CONTINUE TO, TO PROGRAM PAST THE LUNCH HOUR BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH MORE THAT COULD BE OFFERED.

YES.

RIGHT.

SO HOW IS THE ASAP PROGRAM FUNDED? SO WE ARE FUNDED THROUGH THE GENERAL, THE CITY'S GENERAL FUND BUDGET, AND THERE IS $1.1 MILLION DEDICATED TO OUR PROGRAM ALONE.

UM, SINCE 2017, THE PARK AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED JUST OVER, UM, $700,000 FROM THE WELLMED CHARITABLE FOUNDATION.

AND THIS FUNDING SUPPORTS THE PROGRAM AND ALLOWS THE QUALIFYING PARTICIPANTS ACCESS WITHOUT FINANCIAL BURDEN.

SO WHAT DOES THIS COVER? THIS COVERS, UM, THEIR ASAP RECREATION CARD, WHICH IS $10 ANNUALLY, AND IT ALSO COVERS THE $5 PROGRAM FEE THAT IF THEY WERE NOT A DALLAS RESIDENT, THAT THEY WOULD BE CHARGED.

SO ON AVERAGE, IT'S, UH, $70 A YEAR TO COVER THE PROGRAMS FOR THE SENIORS TO PARTICIPATE FOR FREE.

AND THAT'S FOR DALLAS RESIDENTS.

$10 FOR THE RECREATION CARD, $5 A MONTH FOR THE PROGRAM FEE SEVEN, WHAT WAS THAT THREE YEAR TOTAL? $70.

OKAY.

PER YEAR PER SENIOR.

AND THE WELLMED GRANT COVERS THAT FEE FOR DALLAS RESIDENTS.

SO SOMETHING ELSE THAT WE OFFER, UM, THAT IS OUR DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES NUTRITION PROGRAM.

UM, IT'S A CONGREGATE MILL, UM, THAT SERVICES OUR SENIORS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY AT SIX OF OUR LOCATIONS.

AND THIS PROGRAM IS ABSOLUTELY FREE TO THE SENIORS.

IT'S OFFERED AT, UH, THE MARTIN LUTHER KING CENTER, LARRY JOHNSON, MARCUS ANNEX, SINGING HILLS, LIBBY JOHNSON, AND THE WELLMED ACTIVITY CENTER.

I'M SORRY, WHAT'S THE MARTIN LUTHER KING CENTER, THE ONE THAT'S NOT A REGULAR SETTING? I'M, I I DON'T HAVE, YEAH, IT'S THE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COUNTY THAT WE HAVE THERE IN THE COMPLEX.

IT'S SIX MONTHS.

YES, MA'AM.

THANK YOU.

THAT'S GREAT.

THANK YOU.

AND LINDSAY, ARE Y'ALL GONNA START DOING THAT OR IS THE COUNTY GONNA START PROVIDING, UM, LUNCH AT THE UMEY NOW THAT IT'S REOPENED AND IT'S CONSIDERED THE SENIOR CENTER? I COULD DEFINITELY CHECK

[01:05:01]

INTO THAT.

I DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THAT MOVING FORWARD, BUT I WILL DEFINITELY ASK THEM.

YEAH.

'CAUSE THEY DO HAVE 'EM IN EVERY DISTRICT, I BELIEVE.

RIGHT? THEY'RE OPERATING NOT REC CENTERS.

NO, THAT'S NOT AT ALL REC CENTERS, BUT IN EVERY DISTRICT THEY'RE OFFERING FOOD.

I BELIEVE THEY MAY, THAT'S WHAT THEY TOLD ME LAST TIME I TALKED TO NOT IN CITY OF, NOT IN OUR REC CENTER, SO TO SPEAK.

OKAY.

BUT THERE MAY BE ANOTHER LOCATION WITHIN THAT, THAT DISTRICT.

OKAY.

IS THERE A LIST OF THE CONTACTS? SO I HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT ONE AT THE KING CENTER, UH, FOR THE COUNTY.

FOR THE COUNTY, YES MA'AM.

I CAN GIVE YOU THAT CONTACT INFORMATION.

MM-HMM.

.

HERE'S A BIT OF TRIVIA.

I'M AN RIS.

.

YOU'RE AN RIS.

YEAH.

THAT'S SON.

MY MOTHER'S FAMILY.

YEP.

BUTNER BUTNER AND, UH, FRUIT ROAD.

THAT'S WHERE THEY ALL HOMESTEAD.

YEAH.

VERY NICE.

SO WHAT, YOU LEARNED SOMETHING, I KNOW WE GOT A METHODIST CHURCH DOWN.

ONE QUICK QUESTION MAKES ME ONE POINT MILLION, $1.1 MILLION BUDGET.

HOW MUCH OF THAT? IS THAT ALL STAFF? NO.

MM-HMM.

THAT'S, UM, OUR EXPENSES.

SO IF WE HIRE CONTRACTING INSTRUCTORS TO COME IN, THAT COVERS THE EXPENSE OF THOSE.

ANY PROGRAM FEES YOU'LL SEE COMING UP THAT WE'VE GOT OUR BIG MOTHER'S DAY, FATHER'S DAY EVENT, OUR GOLDEN GAMES, UM, OUR, OUR HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS AT THE END OF THE YEAR, ALL OF THAT, ALL THOSE PROGRAMS COME OUT OF THAT BUDGET AS WELL.

OKAY.

AND THEN THE 742,000 IS ADDED ONTO THAT.

I MEAN, SO THAT MONEY GOES INTO THAT COVERS.

SO THE $742,000 GOES BACK INTO THE GENERAL FUND, BUT THAT COVERS THE ID CARD.

SO IT'S NOT ANY DIFFERENT THAN US SELLING IT TO YOU.

MM-HMM.

THAT MONEY WOULD GO BACK INTO THE GENERAL FUND.

SO IT DOES GO BACK INTO THE GENERAL FUND.

OKAY.

BUT I, I KNOW SAMUEL CLARK IS, UH, SAMUEL BRAND IS RIGHT AT THE END OF MY STREET.

OKAY.

AND, UH, UH, I KNOW THAT THE, THEY HAVE THE CHAIR YOGA ON MONDAYS.

YES.

AND, AND I, I THINK, I MEAN, I THINK IT, THEY HAD TO STOP BECAUSE LAST YEAR BECAUSE THEY RAN OUT OF FUNDS.

SO WHAT HAPPENS IS, IS THOSE INSTRUCTORS THAT WE BRING IN TO TEACH CLASSES ARE WHAT WE CALL, THEY'RE ON AN ADMINISTRATIVE ACTION.

AND THAT THAT FINANCIAL DOCUMENT HAS A DOLLAR AMOUNT ASSIGNED TO IT.

SURE.

SO IF WE RUN OUT OF FUNDS, IT'S NOT BECAUSE WE RAN OUT OF FUNDS WITHIN OUR, OUR GENERAL BUDGET.

YEAH.

IT'S BECAUSE THAT, THAT FINANCIAL DOCUMENT RAN OUT OF FUNDS.

AND SO WHAT HAPPENS IS WE CAN'T RUN OVERRUN THAT.

SURE.

WHAT HAPPENS IS WE HAVE TO PUT A WHOLE NEW CONTRACT INTO PLACE.

AND SO THE, THEY WERE PAUSED, BUT THEY WERE BROUGHT BACK BECAUSE THERE, ONCE WE GOT DUG DEEPER, THERE WAS SOME FUNDS LEFT THAT WE COULD USE.

AND I MEAN, I CAN ASK THAT BECAUSE WE DO A FUNDING PRIORITY RECOMMENDATION FROM HERE.

AND I'M, I'M JUST WONDERING IF THAT NEEDS TO BE, AND I'VE ALSO HEARD THAT THAT CLASS IS FULL.

THE CLASS IS VERY FULL AND, AND I'M, I MEAN, I'M THINKING MAYBE IF HE HAD AN AFTERNOON CLASS, I MIGHT GO, BUT , I GET UP IN MORNING, I DO GO TO YI DO GO TO YOGA AT THE Y AND I'M VERY HAPPY THERE.

BUT, UM, I, I'M WONDERING IF THIS IS SOMETHING MAYBE AS WE PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR FUNDING BUDGET, WE NEED TO TALK TO YOU ALL ABOUT YOUR, WHAT YOU SEE THE NEEDS AND WHAT WE NEED TO DO, BECAUSE I THINK THAT IS SO VERY IMPORTANT.

ABSOLUTELY.

SO MOVING FORWARD, WE HAVE NOT JUST YOGA, BUT RIGHT.

NO.

IN ANY OF OUR PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE TO DO THE CONTRACT FOR WHATEVER WE'VE DONE IN THE PAST, I ALWAYS INCREASE IT, YOU KNOW, 10 TO 15% TO ALLOW THAT GROWTH.

SO THAT WAY WE DON'T RUN INTO THAT SITUATION WHERE WE HAVE TO CEASE THE PROGRAM IN ORDER TO RENEW THE CONTRACT.

WELL, MAYBE WHEN WE'RE DOING OUR PROGRAM, WE NEED TO TALK TO YOU, GET A LITTLE MORE, IF YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT IT.

BEFORE, BEFORE THE MEETING STARTED, WE HAD A CONVERSATION, AND CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG, BUT MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT IT IS NOT A SHORTAGE OF FUNDS THAT GETS IN THE WAY CORRECT.

OF THIS.

IT IS NOT BEING ABLE TO IDENTIFY CONTRACTORS WHO ARE AVAILABLE AND INSTRUCTORS THAT ARE AVAILABLE.

IT'S AVAILABILITY OF PEOPLE THAT'S, THAT ARE WILLING TO DO IT OR ABLE TO DO IT AS A, SO THAT I WAS TOLD THERE'S NOT A YEAH.

SO SOME OF THE, THE CONTRACTORS ARE JUST A ONE MAN SHOW.

IT'S JUST THEM.

THEY COME AND THEY TEACH THE PROGRAM OUTTA THE KINDNESS OF THEIR HEART, AND THEY MOVE ON WITH THEIR DAY.

AND THEY'RE, THIS IS NOT THEIR SOLE BUSINESS.

LIKE THEY DO SOMETHING ELSE, COURSE FULL TIME, WHATEVER.

UM, WE DO HAVE A YOGA INSTRUCTOR WHERE SHE HAS AN ENTIRE TEAM OF PEOPLE.

AND SO, YOU KNOW, WE, WE WILL HIRE AS MUCH AS WE CAN.

[01:10:01]

IT'S NOT A FUNDING ISSUE, IT'S THAT WE GOTTA FIND THE PEOPLE.

SO LIKE I SAID, ONE, ONE PERSON CAN COME IN AND BE A ONE MAN SHOW AND ONE PERSON CAN BRING AN ENTIRE TEAM.

SO WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR NEW INSTRUCTORS.

SO IF ANYBODY KNOWS OF ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO TEACH FOR US, DEFINITELY SEND THEM OUR WAY.

WE'VE GOT YOGA, WE'VE GOT LINE DANCING, WE'VE GOT ART CLASSES, AND WE'RE WORKING ON A ZUMBA INSTRUCTOR.

AND AM I MISSING ANYBODY? PICKLE BALL.

PICKLE BALL, PICKLEBALL, PICKLEBALL, OBVIOUSLY .

NOW.

WOULD THAT THAT BE THE SAME WITH THE CENTERS? UH, WHERE THE CLASSES ARE EXTREMELY CROWDED AND OFFERED ONLY ONCE.

SO DO YOU HAVE AN EXAMPLE FOR ME? AN EXAMPLE ABOUT GETTING WELLMED? OKAY.

UH, YOU MENTIONED THE LINE DANCING.

YES.

ALSO THE AEROBICS.

UH, IT'S OFFERED ONE TIME AND PERSONS HAVE TO GO AT SEVEN 30 IN THE MORNING TO SIGN UP, TO GO BACK FOR TWO O'CLOCK.

IT WAS A VERY POPULAR CLASS.

AND UNFORTUNATELY WE DID LOSE THAT INSTRUCTOR.

UM, SHE PASSED AWAY AND SHE'S A PRIME EXAMPLE OF, SHE WAS A, A STRONG VOLUNTEER FOR US AND TAUGHT THAT CLASS.

AND I MEAN, THAT CLASS HAS BEEN AROUND FOR YES.

EVEN BEFORE WELLNESS CAME ON.

I REMEMBER HER TEACHING FOR US AT THE REC CENTERS, BUT SHE ALSO WAS AN EMPLOYEE FOR THE CITY OF GRAND PRAIRIE.

SO SHE WOULD GO BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN WELLMED AND, UM, THE, THE REC CENTER OUT AT GRAND PRAIRIE AS WELL.

UM, SO YES, WE CAN FIND MORE INSTRUCTORS TO BRING IN.

THAT'S NOT A PROBLEM, BUT I'D BE HAPPY JUST FINDING THEM.

YES.

YES.

AND WE DID, I WAS SPEAKING WITH LATRICE BEFORE WE STARTED.

UM, WE HAD ABOUT SEVEN CONTRACT FEE INSTRUCTORS COME IN AND TEACH CLASSES FOR US.

PRE COVID WE'RE ABOUT ABOUT UP TO FIVE.

SO WE'RE NOT TOO FAR BEHIND FROM WHERE WE WERE, BUT IT IS JUST, WE LOST INSTRUCTORS COMING OUT OF COVID BECAUSE EITHER THEY COULDN'T DO IT, THEY HAD TO GO BACK TO WORK, WHATEVER THE CASE MAY HAVE BEEN.

ARE THERE ANY REGULAR FULL-TIME INSTRUCTORS ON THE STAFF OF PARKS AND REC THAT, THAT ARE ROTATING THROUGHOUT THE CENTERS? AND WHAT, WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THE PROGRAMMATIC PEOPLE ARE EMPLOYEES OF PARKS AND REC AS OPPOSED TO OUTSIDE CONTRACTORS OR VOLUNTEERS? SO, UM, WE HAVE JEFF AT WELLMED AND ANOTHER YOUNG LADY OUT OF , AND THEY CURRENTLY ARE TEACHING A TYPE CHIEF PROGRAM.

UM, IT'S A GRANT THAT WE, THAT WE RECEIVE FROM NRPA, WHICH IS OUR NATIONAL PARK AND RECREATION ASSOCIATION.

AND THEY DO ROTATE FOR THE NEXT 18 MONTHS TEACHING THIS IT CLASS TO OUR PARTICIPANTS.

UM, THEIR PRIMARY FOCUS IS THE LOWER INCOME, BUT WE'VE ALSO ASKED THEM TO REACH A LITTLE BIT FURTHER.

UM, THEY DO HAVE TO REACH 1800 PARTICIPANTS, UM, WITHIN THAT 18 MONTH PERIOD.

UM, BUT UH, THE, ALSO THE, THE BIG ASK IS WHEN WE SEND AN INSTRUCTOR OUT, SO CHAIR YOGA, ZUMBA, WHATEVER THE CASE IS, WE HAVE A, A PART-TIME EMPLOYEE IN MOST LOCATIONS CALLED A SRA, A SENIOR REC ASSISTANT THAT IS AT THOSE LOCATIONS.

AND WE ASK THAT THOSE SENIOR REC ASSISTANTS SET IN ON THOSE CLASSES AND PARTICIPATE IN THOSE CLASSES BECAUSE ONCE THAT, THAT CLASS IS OVER, WE WANT THEM TO CONTINUE THAT CLASS UNTIL WE CAN PUT THAT, THAT INSTRUCTOR BACK INTO THE ROTATION TO COME TO THEIR CENTER.

SO WE DO ROTATE THEM, UM, AROUND, SO EVERYBODY HAS AN OPPORTUNITY.

AND THOSE SRAS, WHEN THOSE OPPORTUNITIES COME UP, UM, OUR COORDINATORS SEND OUT THE EMAIL, HEY, THIS IS YOUR OPPORTUNITY TO SIGN UP IF YOU WANT A DATE, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOUR DATES ARE SO WE CAN PUT YOU ON THE CALENDAR.

SO ALL THE REC CENTERS HAVE THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THESE CLASSES.

UM, THE PERCENTAGE OF STAFF GOING OUT AND TEACHING IS VERY LOW.

LIKE I SAID, WE'VE GOT, UM, JEFF AND UM, CYNTHIA THAT ARE GOING OUT RIGHT NOW AND TEACHING THE TAI CHI CLASS.

UM, WE DID HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY, UM, PARTNERSHIP WITH, WITH BAYLOR, UM, TO COME IN AND TEACH LIKE A MATTER OF BALANCE CLASS, BUT THAT DID NOT PAN OUT FOR US.

SO WE'RE, I MEAN, WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR THOSE OPPORTUNITIES SO OUR STAFF CAN BE TRAINED TO GO BACK TO THEIR FACILITIES TO TEACH MM-HMM.

.

AND THAT WAY WE DON'T HAVE TO NECESSARILY ALWAYS DEPEND ON, UH, A CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR TO COME IN.

SO PRETTY MUCH WHAT YOU SAID IS IT RELATES TO PROGRAMS. THEY HAVE TWO FULL TIME PEOPLE AND ALL THE REST OF IT IS JUST CONTRACTED OUT ON, ON AN AS NEEDED BASIS.

IS THAT CORRECT? YES.

YEAH.

AND THEN HOW MANY, UH, SENIOR REC ASSISTANTS ARE THERE? WE'VE GOT 25.

SO WE, WE HAVE ABOUT 25 PART-TIME REC ASSISTANTS SPREAD ACROSS THE 43 REC CENTERS.

BUT ALSO, KEEP IN MIND WE HAVE A HANDFUL, A VERY SMALL HANDFUL, PROBABLY ABOUT 10 OR SO OR LESS OF OUR FULL-TIME REC ASSISTANTS.

SO THOSE POSITIONS ARE VERY FEW AND FAR BETWEEN, BUT THEY WORK THE FULL-TIME REC ASSISTANTS WORK FOR US BETWEEN THE HOURS OF NINE AND TWO, JUST LIKE A REGULAR

[01:15:01]

SRA WOULD MM-HMM.

.

AND THEN THEIR AFTERNOON HOURS ARE DEDICATED TO THE RECREATION CENTER, SO THEY DON'T FALL UNDERNEATH US DURING THOSE HOURS.

BUT THERE'S, THOSE POSITIONS ARE VERY FEW AND FAR BETWEEN.

WILLIE B. JOHNSON HAS ONE OF THOSE FULL-TIME REC ASSISTANTS AND T UM, BUT THOSE, THAT'S THE ONLY ONE AT OUR FULL REC, OUR FOUR SENIOR CENTERS I CAN THINK OF.

NOW, BACK TO YOUR FRIDAY PROGRAMING, HAVEN'T THE HOURS BEEN EXTENDED FROM TWO TO FIVE EVERY DAY FOR SENIORS TO USE THE FACILITY? SO THE TWO TO FIVE, THAT'S FOR THE, I MEAN, UH, NINE TO FIVE, THAT'S FOR THE RECREATE, THAT'S FOR THE FITNESS CENTER.

THAT'S IN THE RECREATION CENTER.

THE FITNESS CENTER IS AVAILABLE TO ALL SENIORS TO PARTICIPATE IN FROM NINE TO FIVE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

SO IT, IT ENDED AT TWO BEFORE? YES, SIR.

OKAY.

AND, OKAY.

AND THEN THE PROGRAMS ARE PROBABLY WHAT ENDED AT TWO AT THE END.

THE PROGRAMS END AT TWO O'CLOCK.

YES.

MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY.

AND THAT'S ONLY AT THE, THAT'S AT YOUR BREADS, YOUR LAKE HIGHLANDS.

IT'S THE FIVE, THERE'S CHILDCARE THERE IN THE AFTERNOON.

YES.

WE'VE GOT AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS, AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMS THAT COMES IN IN THE AFTERNOON AS WELL.

THAT'S WHY THEY CAN'T DO IT.

THEY CAN'T USE THE ROOMS. RIGHT.

THEY CAN'T USE THE ROOMS. FRETS IS SMALL, IS THE REASON NINE, NINE, AND FIVE, BUT WHY NOT EARLIER THE NINE IS THERE.

UM, I GUESS A RESTRICTION IN TERMS OF WHEN IT OPENS, UM, THAT'S GONNA BE SET BY OUR BUDGET.

SO WE CAN ONLY, OUR PROGRAM HOURS ARE SO MANY HOURS AND IT'S ALSO SET STANDARD ACROSS TO THE REGULAR RECREATION CENTERS, NOT JUST THE SENIOR CENTERS.

SO THE REC CENTERS OPEN AT NINE, THEY'RE OF COURSE OPEN LATER IN THE EVENINGS.

SO WHAT WE ARE, UM, BUT WE HAVE CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PROGRAM HOURS PER LOCATION.

WE USED TO, I DON'T KNOW, IT'S BEEN A WHILE.

I THINK WE HAD STAGGERED HOURS, BUT NOW WE'RE ON ALL STANDARD HOURS ACROSS THE CITY.

OKAY.

SO HOW IS OUR PROGRAM PROMOTED? UM, OUR BIGGEST PROMOTION IS WORD OF MOUTH.

IT'S CRAZY.

WE'VE DONE SURVEYS, WE'VE DONE SUMMER CAMP SURVEYS WITH THE LITTLE KIDS.

WE'VE DONE, EVERYBODY FINDS OUT THROUGH ABOUT US THROUGH WORD OF MOUTH.

AND SO THAT'S PROBABLY OUR BIGGEST, OUR BIGGEST, UM, ADVERTISING.

UM, WE ARE, WE ARE PROMOTED AT VARIOUS CITY EVENTS.

SO WE MAY GO TO, WE HAVE OUR CENTER MONTHLY CALENDARS, I APOLOGIZE.

OUR SRAS DO CREATE THE MONTHLY CALENDARS AT EACH LOCATION.

THOSE ARE DISTRIBUTED.

THEY HAVE A HARD COPY IN LA.

UM, THEY HAVE A HARD COPY THERE AT THE REC CENTER.

AND THEN IT IS ALSO POSTED ONLINE THROUGH THE RECREATION CENTER FACEBOOK PAGE.

SO EACH RECREATION CENTER HAS THEIR OWN FACEBOOK PAGE.

AND THEN OF COURSE WE HAVE OUR OWN SENIOR PROGRAM DIVISION FACEBOOK PAGE, AND I'LL SHOW YOU IT HERE IN JUST A COUPLE MINUTES.

UM, WE HAVE CREATED A, A FOLDER AT THE TOP OF OUR FACEBOOK PAGE THAT HAS ALL THE CALENDARS IN IT EACH MONTH, SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO SCROLL THROUGH THE FEED LOOKING FOR IT, IF THAT'S THE WAY.

WE HAVE SOME BIG HEAVY FACEBOOK GOERS AND THEY'RE ADAMANT THAT OUR CALENDARS ARE POSTED ON FACEBOOK.

SO WE'RE MAKING IT HAPPEN FOR 'EM.

AND I KNOW THAT WE DON'T REACH EVERYBODY IN THAT ASPECT.

NOT EVERYBODY'S BIG ON IN TECHNOLOGY AND I UNDERSTAND THAT.

SO WE ALSO PROVIDE THE HARD COPIES AT THE REC CENTERS AS WELL.

UM, WE GO OUT TO CITY SPONSORED EVENTS TO PROMOTE OUR PROGRAMS. WE'VE GOT COMMUNITY EVENTS, UM, MONTHLY APARTMENT MEETINGS, HOA NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETINGS, AND THEN VENDOR SPONSORED EVENTS.

SO IF, UM, SENIOR SOURCE ASK US TO COME OUT TO AN EVENT, YOU KNOW, WE'LL PROMOTE OUR ACTIVITIES THERE, WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE.

UM, UNITED HEALTHCARE MAY ASK US TO COME OUT AND PROMOTE OUR ACTIVITIES.

WE'LL DO THAT AS WELL.

UM, ADDITIONAL RESOURCES THAT WE HAVE TO PROMOTE OUR PROGRAM IS, OF COURSE, WORD OF MOUTH, LIKE I SAID, IS OUR BIG, OUR BIG ONE, OUR MONTHLY CALENDARS, OUR WEBSITES, WE DO HAVE EMAIL DISTRIBUTION LISTS, BUT WE KNOW NOT EVERYBODY'S TECH SAVVY.

UM, THEN WE'VE GOT OUR MEDIA RELEASES.

SO WE HAVE A INTERNAL MAC TEAM IN THE PARK DEPARTMENT THAT THEY HAVE THE, THE ABILITY OF DOING MEDIA REQUESTS, NEXT DOOR RADIO ADS, UM, ALL OF OUR SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS. AND THEN WE CAN ALSO DO TV NEWS SEGMENTS.

SO I THINK WE'VE, I THINK OUR SENIOR GAMES MADE ONE OF THE AFTERNOON NEW SEGMENTS BACK IN SEPTEMBER WHEN WE DID OUR BIG KICKOFF FOR SENIOR GANGS AT, AT BECKLEY SINGER.

SO HERE'S THE POST OF OUR, UM, DALLAS, UM, PARKS AND REC SENIOR PROGRAM DIVISION PAGE.

THIS IS THE FLU ARROW IS JUST SHOWING WHERE THE FOLDER IS AT THE TOP.

AND IT WILL CHANGE OUT EVERY MONTH FOR THAT CURRENT MONTH'S PROGRAM OR PROGRAM CALENDARS.

AND THE NEXT SLIDE IS, THIS IS AN EXAMPLE OF HARRY STONE'S CALENDAR.

UM, AND THEY HAVE IT POSTED ON THEIR FACEBOOK PAGE AS WELL, UM, SHOWING THAT WHAT'S GOING ON THERE.

AND THEN THIS WAS

[01:20:01]

ASKED FOR ME FROM THE US BACK IN SEPTEMBER.

IT'S A LIST OF ALL OF THE RECREATION CENTERS AND THIS IS THEIR WEEKLY ATTENDANCE, AVERAGE ATTENDANCE.

UM, I DO HAVE NUMBERS IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN LIKE WHAT THE OVERALL ATTENDANCE IS AT A SPECIFIC LOCATION, BUT THIS IS GOING TO BE YOUR AVERAGE WEEKLY ATTENDANCE BASED ON THE 2223 IS CLEAR.

AND UM, THIS IS BY LOCATION.

I HAVE IT DIVIDED BY COUNCIL DISTRICT AS WELL.

IS THAT, UM, IS THIS WHERE, WHERE IS THIS INFORMATION ACCESSIBLE? THIS, ALL THIS INFORMATION COMES FROM OUR REC TRACK SYSTEM.

OH, NO.

I MEAN ACCESSIBLE TO US.

IS IT JUST A POWERPOINT? THE, IS THERE ANY CORRELATION BETWEEN THE ATTENDANCE AND THESE, UH, FIVE CENTERS THAT HAVE THE UH, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES PROGRAM? SAY THAT ONE MORE TIME, SIR.

IS THERE ANY CORRELATION? IT LOOKS LIKE MOST OF THE HIGHEST ATTENDEES ARE AT THE ONES THAT HAVE THE DALLAS COUNTY HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES COMBINED.

WOULD THAT BE AN EXTRA DRAW? MM-HMM.

.

YEAH.

THINK SO.

LUNCH HAVE TO, BECAUSE I KNOW GARY STONE SLIPS IN THERE.

NUMBER THREE.

YES.

THEY HAVE TO BE ASAP MEMBER IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE IN THOSE BENEFITS.

THE COUNTY BENEFITS.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PAY.

THEY DO, THEY DO.

WELL, THEY DO.

SO ON THESE FIVE LOCATIONS, I SAWS HILL, JUST LOAD OFF THE MAP.

DO IT? MM-HMM, HUNDRED 80.

OH, THAT'S REALLY NICE.

IT'S A BEAUTIFUL FACILITY.

YEAH, BUT DON'T THEY HAVE A TO CENTER THAT SAYS SENIOR CENTER THERE? THEY DO.

THEY DON'T HAVE THAT IN OTHER SENIOR CENTER REC CENTER.

NO, THEY DO.

WILL BE IN.

SEE, AND THAT'S WHERE I HAVE A PROBLEM.

ARE YOU, EXCUSE ME.

WE'RE BUILDING A NEW ONE AND WHY? I JUST, MR. KLE KNOWS I'VE LOST ON THIS DISTRICT TWO, DISTRICT SEVEN, DISTRICT NINE BUILDING A BRAND NEW ONE.

WHAT'S IT CALLED? WHITE ROCK HILLS.

IT'S ON THE BOND PACKAGE.

AND YET OUR GOOD FRIENDS AT SAMUEL GRAND HENRY STONE, ARE TWO AND A HALF MILES EACH WAY.

WHY CAN'T WE HAVE A SMALLER AND SAVE SOME OF THAT MONEY AND HAVE MORE SENIOR CENTER ONLY LOCATED OUTTA YOUR, OR NOT YOUR PAY GRADE.

BUT I JUST HAVE TO GET THAT OFF MY CHEST BECAUSE TO ME IT'S NOT PRUDENT.

THEY ASKED FOR 24, DID GREAT WORK, UM, ORGANIZATIONS FOUGHT IT FOR OR SOUGHT IT FOR 28 YEARS.

BUT I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY YOU COULDN'T TAKE THAT.

THEY FINALLY, SOMEBODY, THE THREE COUNCILS OUT THERE GOT THE HITS TOGETHER, BROUGHT FROM 24.

IT'LL BE ON THE, UH, BOND FOR 17.6 AND NOW THERE'S A MOVE TO GO BACK AND GET THE OTHER SIX AND A HALF MILLION.

MY POINT IS, WHY COULDN'T YOU HAVE TAKEN THAT MONEY AND PUT THREE JUST SENIOR CENTERS ONLY, BELIEVE IT OR NOT, AROUND THE COUNTRY.

I MEAN THE COUNTY, THE CITY, THE CITY.

NOT THE COUNTY.

ARE YOU? I'M WITH YOU.

TOTALLY.

I MEAN, I AM AS WELL.

WE OKAY, GOOD.

DISTRIBUTION.

NO, NO, I JUST, I THINK THAT'S, I THINK THAT'S ABOVE HER PAY GRADE.

OKAY.

WELL, I JUST, I JUST WANNA MENTION WHEN IT COMES TO THE BOND, AND I'M NOT THE ATTORNEY, SO I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHERE THE LINE IS DRAWN, BUT I DO KNOW THAT NOW THAT THE BOND RECOMMENDATIONS HAVE GONE THROUGH COUNCIL, WE HAVE TO BE VERY CAREFUL TALKING ABOUT SPECIFIC PROJECTS IN ANY KIND OF A WAY, BECAUSE IT COULD COME ACROSS AS THOUGH INTERESTING AS A PUBLIC BODY YOU'RE ADVOCATING FOR THAT ITEM.

AT THIS POINT, IT'S IN THE VOTERS.

SO WE HAVE STAFF, WE'RE IN A COMMISSION WE CAN'T REALLY TALK ABOUT OR PROMOTE OR ADVOCATE FOR OR AGAINST OR ANYTHING IN THAT DIRECTION.

AND AGAIN, I'M NOT AN ATTORNEY.

UM, I'M NOT CAO I'M JUST KIND OF TAKING FROM THE MEMO THAT THEY PUSHED OUT TO US REGARDING DISCUSSION OF BOND PROJECTS.

I JUST KIND OF WANNA BRING THAT FORWARD.

'CAUSE I, I DON'T KNOW WHERE THE LINE IS, BUT I WANNA MAKE SURE WE DON'T CROSS IT.

FAIR ENOUGH.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THAT WAS A POINT OF INFORMATION.

YES, THAT IS ALL RIGHT.

HISTORY.

HISTORY.

NO, NO PROBLEM.

I FULLY UNDERSTAND THE QUESTION.

WHICH LINE? WHO, WHO CROSSING THE LINE? US, US COMMISSION.

ANY COMMISSION.

OKAY.

I THINK THE, I THINK THE RULES, AND WE SHOULD PROBABLY CHECK THIS OUT, JESSICA ARE VERY DIFFERENT FOR STAFF THAN FOR US, RIGHT? I THINK, I THINK STAFF, YEAH.

THE RULES APPLY TO US AS WELL AS STAFF.

I THINK THAT, WELL, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO ATE.

WE ARE THAT YOU ARE RIGHT NOW BECAUSE YOU'RE IN A MEETING.

SO THERE'S NO AVOIDING THAT ANY DECISION YOU HAVE IS WITHIN YOUR ROLE AS AN APPOINTED.

CAN'T, JESSICA CAN'T EVER, BECAUSE SHE'S A CITY EMPLOYEE, WE CAN LEAD THIS ROOM AND DO IT.

I NOT, LET'S NOT THE MEMO THAT CITY ATTORNEY'S OFFICE SENT OUT

[01:25:01]

IN AS AN INDIVIDUAL.

WE CAN, YEAH, I DON'T KNOW.

I WOULD REC JUST REVIEW THAT.

THANK YOU.

NO, IT WOULD BE REALLY GOOD FOR US WHEN I WAS PRESIDENT OF A NONPROFIT BOARD.

DO WE HAVE NEVER? HUH? SO WHO'S ONLINE? OH, LUCY, DO YOU WANNA CHIME IN ON THAT QUESTION? ARE YOU ONLINE? I DON'T THINK WE, WE DON'T NEED, WELL, I BELIEVE I SAID THAT IN THOSE MANY WORDS, BUT YEAH, SAYING JEFF SO STOPPED IT THOUGHT SHE SAYING OKAY, WE CAN DISCUSS THE CONCEPT OF SENIOR CENTERS VERSUS OLD PARKS AND REC.

YEAH, BUT IT'S NOT UNDER OUR PURVIEW ANYWAY.

IT'S REALLY THE PARKS AND REC DEPARTMENT, IF THEY'RE, THAT CONTROLS WHAT THEY WANT TO DOING.

BUT WE CAN CERTAINLY TRY TO INFLUENCE THEM, BUT NOT AS PART OF THE BONDAGE.

BUT YES.

NOT SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO THE BOX.

IT'S ALREADY BEEN RECOMMENDED BY CITY COUNCIL AS CURRENTLY STRUCTURED AND IT'S GOING BEFORE CONJECTURE.

AND WHAT IF ? I HEARD.

I HAVE NO RESPONSE.

ALRIGHT, YOU'RE UP KAREN.

WELL, I JUST, I WANNA GO WAY BACK TO THE, YOUR, YOU'RE GETTING THE WORD OUT.

AND I THINK WE TALKED ABOUT THE COULD YOU, I WOULD RECOMMEND THAT YOU ALL CONSISTENTLY, UH, ANNOUNCE THESE THINGS ON NEXT DOOR.

MAYBE IT'S BECAUSE I READ NEXT DOOR.

UH, THERE'S A BIG HOT ISSUE IN MY COMMUNITY RIGHT NOW.

HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH PARKS AND REC, BUT, UH, I DO FROM TIME TO TIME SEE THINGS ON NEXTDOOR.

UH, SOME OF IT IS LIKE, THERE'S GOING TO, I THINK BE A HIRING EVENT OR SOMETHING.

ONE OF MY NEIGHBORS POSTED IT, BUT IT'S PARK AND REC.

SO WHOEVER'S IN CHARGE OF YOUR INFORMATION, I JUST THINK THAT WOULD HELP.

I, I KNOW AGAIN, WORD OF MOUTH IS BETTER.

OKAY.

BUT I THINK THAT WOULD HELP.

AND ANOTHER VERY PERSONAL THING IS WHEN I WENT ON THE WEBSITE THE OTHER DAY, I WAS TRYING TO CALL SAMUEL GRANT.

THAT NUMBER DOESN'T WORK.

IT, IT RINGS AND RINGS AND RINGS.

AND THEN I FOUND OUT I HAD THEIR NUMBER IN MY CONTACT LIST, WHICH DOES WORK.

AND BELIEVE ME, I GOT HOLD OF THEM AND, BUT, UH, YOU, THAT WOULD BE A GOOD THING TO CHANGE TOO.

THANK YOU.

YES.

YEAH, THERE'VE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THREATS ALSO IN TERMS OF JUST RINGS AND THANKS STACY.

I HAVE SOMETHING.

IT'S MY TURN.

OKAY.

IT'S YOUR TURN.

IT'S MY TURN.

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY FOR THE PARTS OF RECREATION, SINCE I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH MY CENTER, WHICH IS DISTRICT FOUR, ELOISE LUNDY, AND I DON'T KNOW WHO'S BEEN PUTTING THIS TOGETHER, BUT AT THE FAIR PARK, THEY USUALLY HAVE SOME BIG EXTRAVAGANZA FOR THE SENIORS IS VERY NICE AND WELL ORGANIZED.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S PART OF SOMETHING YOU KNOW ABOUT.

IT KIND OF LIKE WENT IN WHEN THEY WERE SAYING WHAT YOU ALL DO, BUT THEY HAD A, AND I BROUGHT THIS UP BEFORE A GRANDPARENTS DAY FOR ALL THE GRANDPARENTS WE HAD HOSPITAL AND THAT KIND OF STUFF.

VERY, VERY WELL ORGANIZED.

AND THEN IN THE CENTENNIAL BUILDING, THEY HAD ALL THE, THE, I GUESS IT WAS A PARKS AND RECREATION.

THEY HAD ALL OF THE, UH, CENTERS THAT COME OUT AND I DON'T KNOW HOW DID YOU KNOW? MY CENTER TOLD US IT WAS VERY NICE AND VERY WELL, UM, ORGANIZED.

AND THEY HAD A LOT OF VENDORS, A LOT OF INFORMATION.

THEY HAD THE OLDEST LADY, THERE WAS A BEAUTY QUEEN.

SHE WAS THERE THERE AND IT WAS JUST REALLY NICE.

SO I JUST WANTED TO SEE ON THAT NOTE, I UH, KNOW THE PARTS WHEN RECREATION ARE REALLY GOOD FOR THE COMMUNITY.

I DON'T KNOW HOW THE WORD GET OUT MORE ING, BUT YOU ALL HAVE A LOT OF PROGRAMS BECAUSE I LIKE, I GUESS YOU CAN SEE I LIKE FREE STUFF AND GOING PLACES.

ABSOLUTELY.

IT WAS VERY NICE.

I'M I'M JUST SAYING THE PARTS OF RECREATION, OUR COMMUNITY IS TRYING TO HELP GET THE PEOPLE OUT TO DO DIFFERENT THINGS AND THAT'S WHY MISS POLICE, I WANT TO BE ON THAT.

YES.

YOU LIKE TO GO SOCIALIZE SOCIALLY JOIN.

I WOULD LIKE A TRIP.

COME ON.

WHERE YOU ON THE COUCH? LINDSAY? THIS IS LINDSAY.

ARE THERE, DOES ANYBODY WHO'S ONLINE HAVE ANY, I'M TRYING TO SPEAK NOW.

THIS IS COMMISSIONER AUSTIN.

OKAY.

LINDSAY, I WAS WONDERING WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR, UH, OLDER AMERICANS MONTH IN MAY? OH YES.

WE WILL BE AT OLDER AMERICANS MONTH IN MAY.

WE WILL HAVE AN INTERACTIVE, UH, AREA SET UP.

AND THEN I ALSO KNOW THAT JEFF FROM WELLMED WILL ALSO BE ON STAGE DOING PROGRAMS AS WELL.

SO YOU'LL BE PART OF THE DART PROGRAM, IS THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING? YES.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

YES.

WE WILL BE AT OLDER AMERICANS MONTH.

AND THAT THE THIRD PART TOO, BILL? YEAH, THAT WAS, AND WE WOULD THAT INFORMATION ABOUT THAT IT PROBABLY BEEN DISTRIBUTED.

I'LL SEND IT TO YOU GUYS.

DID SEEN

[01:30:01]

IT'S TOO EARLY.

UM, SO THIS SLIDE RIGHT HERE, WE ALSO IN MAY NOT, ALONG WITH OLDER AMERICANS, MONTH CELEBRATION AT FAIR PARK, WE HAVE OUR MOTHER'S DAY EVENT COMING UP AT THE HYATT REGENT SCENE, MC FRIDAY, MAY THE THIRD.

AS SOON AS OUR SAVE THE DATE IS FINALIZED, WE'LL SEND IT OUT TO YOU GUYS.

WE'D LOVE FOR YOU TO BE THERE.

IT'S ONE OF OUR BIGGEST AND PROUDEST EVENTS.

ENJOY.

WE SERVE OVER 700 MOTHERS.

VERY NICE CLASSES.

VERY EXCITING EVENT.

AND THEN, UM, FRIDAY, JUNE THE 14TH IS OUR ANNUAL FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION.

IT'LL BE DONE WITH THE TEXAS, UM, HORSE PARK AT PEMBERTON HILL.

SO AGAIN, ONCE WE GET THOSE FINAL LINES, WE'LL GET 'EM OUT TO YOU GUYS.

WE'D LOVE TO HAVE EVERYBODY JOIN US.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

AND THEN, OH, I HAVE ONE MORE SLIDE, BUT I DON'T .

UM, AND I'LL JUST QUICKLY GO OVER IT.

UM, WELL, I THOUGHT I DID.

IT DID NOT GO THROUGH.

WELL, THAT'S IT.

.

I QUESTION.

THANK YOU.

YOU LINDSEY.

TOP THREE STRATEGIES FOR THAT WAS MY SLIDE.

IT WASN'T COVERED HERE, BUT WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE STRATEGIES FOR THE PARKS AND, UH, FOR THE SENIORS? SO WHAT WE'RE DOING IS WE'RE KIND OF TAKING A STEP BACK FROM THE GUIDELINES THAT ARE IN PLACE.

THEY'VE BEEN IN PLACE FOR SEVEN YEARS.

AND SO WE'RE TAKING IT A STEP BACK IN REVIEWING THOSE GUIDELINES, SEEING WHAT WE NEED TO IMPROVE, WHAT WE NEED TO TAKE AWAY, WHAT WE NEED TO ADD.

SO THAT IS MY MISSION RIGHT NOW IS TO REVAMP THE PROGRAM.

UM, AND I HOPE TO ROLL OUT THE NEW VERSION OCTOBER ONE, SO THAT WAY IT GIVES ME SOME TIME TO TAKE A STEP BACK, SEE WHAT EVERYBODY'S WORRIES AND CONCERNS ARE MINUS RECREATION CENTERS AND SENIOR CENTERS.

BUT, UM, THAT, AND UM, WE'RE GONNA LOOKING TO ADD DEFINITELY SOME MORE PROGRAMMING, UM, TO, TO OUR, UM, OUR LIST OF CONTRACT DAY INSTRUCTORS.

UM, AND THEN I WANNA GET OUR STAFF TRAINED.

I WANNA GET OUR STAFF TRAINED IN WHATEVER WE CAN FIND FOR THEM TO BE TRAINED IN TO DO BETTER WITH THEIR JOB, TO PROVIDE MORE PROGRAMS FOR THE SENIORS TO REALLY SEE WHAT THAT NEED IS.

AND SO THAT WAY WHEN THEY PROGRAM, OR IF THEY HAVE A SENIOR THAT COMES TO THEM IN NEED OF SOMETHING, THEY HAVE THOSE, THOSE RESOURCES.

MM-HMM.

.

SO, UM, MY NEXT STEP WOULD ALSO TO BE, UM, PLAN A RETREAT FOR OUR STAFF SO THAT WAY WE CAN GO OVER ALL OF THIS WITH THEM.

I CAN SHARE THIS SENIOR SOURCE RESOURCES WITH THEM.

'CAUSE I DON'T KNOW THAT ALL OF OUR STAFF KNOWS THAT.

AND HONESTLY, I'VE BEEN IN THIS POSITION FOR FIVE MONTHS.

I'VE HEARD OF THE SENIOR SOURCE.

I KNEW THAT THEY OFFERED A BUNCH OF STUFF, BUT I LEARNED A LOT FROM STACY SITTING HERE.

SO I TOOK A LOT OF NOTES THAT I PLAN TO SHARE WITH LATRICE AND THE REST OF OUR TEAM TO TAP INTO THOSE RESOURCES BECAUSE WE DO HAVE TWO SENIOR CENTERS THAT HAVE COMPUTER LABS BUILT INTO THEM THAT WE NEED TO UTILIZE.

AND SO KNOWING THAT WE HAVE THAT RESOURCE DEFINITELY WILL TAP INTO THAT.

SO ONE, ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT THANK YOU I WAS GONNA ASK ABOUT WAS I HAD A CONVERSATION AT ONE OF THE SENIOR SENATORS I WAS TALKING ABOUT WHAT WERE THE CONSTRAINTS THAT WERE CAUSING ATTENDANCE TO BE AS LOW AS IT WAS OR THAT TYPE OF THING.

AND THE, UH, IMMEDIATE RESPONSE WAS TRANSPORTATION PROBLEMS. MM-HMM.

GETTING OF GETTING THERE.

MM-HMM.

AND I HAD SOME ADDITIONAL CONVERSATION AND THERE DIDN'T SEEM TO BE AN AWARENESS OF THE DART RIDES PROGRAM OR ANY OF THESE THINGS.

AND SO I'M WONDERING HOW DO, HOW DO YOU, HOW DO YOU INTEND TO TRY TO DEAL WITH THOSE KINDS OF, AND THAT IS A TRAINING ISSUE ON THE PART OF PARKS AND RECS SO THAT ALL OF THE DIRECTORS KNOW.

AND THAT'S WHAT'S THE THINGS THAT CRYSTAL ROSS, MY, UH, OUR DEPUTY DIRECTOR HAS CHALLENGED ME WITH IS WE DON'T HAVE, WE HAVE SENIORS THAT CAN'T GET TO AND FROM OUR PROGRAMS AND HOW ARE WE GOING TO ADDRESS THAT? AND IT'S ON MY PLATE TO, TO WORK OUT AND GET A SOLUTION FOR.

SO I DON'T HAVE AN ANSWER FOR YOU ON THAT JUST YET, BUT DO YOU HAVE ONE? SHE WANTS TO DRIVE THE VAN FOR US AND PICK ANYTHING UP? NO, I'M, I'M THE PROBLEM.

THEY DON'T LIKE, UH, THE OTHER LADY SAID THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH WORKERS BECAUSE MY SISTER WAS AT METHODIST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO AND I HAD TO TAKE HER TO THE DOCTOR AND THE LADY WAS THERE WHEN I GOT THERE.

WE WENT TO THE HARD DOCTOR STATE, CAME BACK, SHE WAS STILL THERE.

AND SHE SAID THAT SHE HAD TO YEAH.

UM, WATER.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT KNOW WHICH ONE, BUT SHE WAS JUST SAYING HOW LONG IT TAKE.

SHE HAD A SEVEN, NINE O'CLOCK APPOINTMENT.

SHE GOTTA BE THERE AT 5 45 IN THE MORNING.

NOW YOU HEAR AT THREE O'CLOCK.

SO I THINK IT'S A LACK OF PEOPLE, NOT THAT, LIKE YOU WAS SAYING, BY MONEY TO P FIND THE PEOPLE TO WORK AND DO THEY DO BACKGROUND CHECKS ON THESE PEOPLE? ABSOLUTELY.

YEAH.

AND SOME OF 'EM CAN PASS THE BACKGROUND CHECKS.

SO IT'S A LACK OF PEOPLE ABLE TO FILL THOSE POSITIONS.

NO, I DON'T

[01:35:01]

WANNA DRIVE.

BUT YEAH.

AS WELL, THIS PARA TRANSIT THAT MAKES PEOPLE MAKE AN APPOINTMENT SO EARLY IN THE MORNING AND HAVE TO BE AVAILABLE SO EARLY IN THE MORNING AND HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT TO BE PICKED UP FOR A LONG TIME.

MY RIDE DALLAS, MY RIDE DALLAS IS A CATALOG THAT HAS MANY OPTIONS FOR TRANSPORTATION FOR SENIORS AND DISABLED PEOPLE.

AND IT'S THROUGH, UH, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF GREATER DALLAS AND THROUGH AREA AGENCY ON AGING.

BUT PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT MY RIDE DALLAS.

MANY PEOPLE DON'T.

AND UNLESS THEY'RE AWARE OF IT, THERE IS FREE SERVICES.

AND OF COURSE, UM, UH, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF GREATER DALLAS ALSO HAS UBER AND LYFT RIDES FREE FOR MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND TO PICK UP PRESCRIPTIONS FOR SENIORS.

BUT IF SENIORS DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT, THEY CAN'T ACCESS IT.

SO IT'S A MATTER OF PAYING INFORMATION TO THE COMMUNITY.

AND I FEEL LIKE THAT'S PART OF OUR JOB AND WE'RE JUST NOT DOING IT.

WELL, I THINK SOME OF US ARE DOING, I'M DOING IT.

SO I , I I'M TOO COMMISSIONER MITCHELL.

I AM TOO.

YEAH.

BUT SOME OF THE, SOME OF THE CONCERN, AS PHILLY SAID, IT'S LACK OF DRIVERS, BUT IT'S ALSO COMMUNICATION AND LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND KNOWING ABOUT WELL, THE COMMUNICATION IN THAT.

OKAY.

I VOLUNTEERED FAVOR.

WE HAVE SENIORS THAT SIT FOR HOURS AND HOURS.

MM-HMM.

.

AND IF I MAKE A CALL TO DART TO SEE WHAT'S GOING ON, OH, WE CAME AND, AND AND, AND SHE DIDN'T TALK ABOUT, SHE WASN'T THERE.

OKAY.

WELL, WHERE DID YOU COME? IT'S A 3,500 GASTON.

THAT'S BAYLOR HOSPITAL.

OKAY.

HOW MANY DOORS ARE THERE? HOW MANY? SO LACK COMMUNICATION, YOU KNOW, KNOWING WHERE THE PERSON'S ACTUALLY, AND SO SHE SAT THERE FROM 10:00 AM I THINK IT WAS ABOUT ONE SOMETHING.

MM-HMM.

.

THIS LADY HAD BEEN THERE SINCE SIX.

YEAH.

BUT THAT'S STILL, THAT'S STILL ONE OPTION.

THAT'S STILL PARA TRANSIT.

THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS.

AND DALLAS COUNTY, MARK EDWARDS TALKED TO YOU ALL ABOUT THE, THE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES THAT DALLAS COUNTY OFFERS.

DART IS NOT DALLAS COUNTY AND, AND MANY PEOPLE BECAUSE PARATRANSIT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST ONES.

THAT'S THE ONE THAT THEY ONLY KNOW ABOUT.

FRIEND THAT I TALKED TO YOU ALL ABOUT SOMETIMES THAT WAS THE ONLY ONE SHE KNEW ABOUT.

SO IT'S JUST A MATTER OF GETTING THE WORD OUT TO THOSE PEOPLE THAT DON'T KNOW THAT THEY HAVE SO MANY OTHER OPTIONS.

AND I THINK THAT, UM, THE GUY CAME AND TALKED TO US ABOUT MY RIDE DALLAS AND HE BOUGHT CATALOGS, BUT EVERYBODY DIDN'T GET ONE.

DID HAVE, IT'S A GREEN AND WHITE BOOK THAT SAYS MY RIDE DALLAS.

OKAY.

WE ARE, WE'VE RUN OVER TIME AT THIS POINT.

UH, THANK YOU VERY MUCH, MELISSA.

I'M SURE YOU'LL DO MORE.

THANK YOU.

THANKS.

THANK YOU.

UH, EVERYONE RECEIVED THE, UH, INFORMATION OF, AND LET, LET'S, LET'S QUICKLY, DO YOU WANT TO GO THROUGH THE, UH, QUICKLY GO THROUGH THE STATISTICS THAT YOU DISTRIBUTED AND THEN WRAP IT UP? NOON.

MS. NORMAN WITH THE SENIOR SERVICES AND EVERYONE HAS RECEIVED THE HANDOUT, I HOPEFULLY YOU WERE ABLE TO OPEN UP THAT MAKES SENSE.

SHOULD BE TEAM FURTHER COME.

DAN IT.

IS IT BETTER? GOOD.

HOLD THIS SEAT IS HOT SEAT.

THIS IS THE HOT SEAT.

YES.

WELL, WE'VE BEEN VERY ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY LATELY.

UM, WE WANNA THANK UM, PARKS AND RECS FOR, UM, WORKING WITH US AND WE'VE BEEN DOING OUR, UM, OFFICE HOURS AT THE FIVE SENIOR CENTERS ON A MONTHLY BASIS NOW.

SO OUR STAFF IS THERE, UM, ON, UM, VARYING, UM, DAYS TO PROVIDE INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SERVICES AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT VISITORS, UM, HAVE.

AND WE'LL CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

UH, WE HAVE SEVERAL EV EVENTS STILL COMING UP IN THIS MONTH AND SOME MAJOR EVENTS COMING UP, UH, AHEAD OF TIME WILL BE WITH THE SENIOR SOURCE, UH, LEGAL AND FINANCIAL STRATEGIES FOR LGBT SENIORS NEXT MONTH.

AS OF COURSE THE SENIOR ADULT HEALTH FAIR.

UM, AND THE DART, UM, OLDER AMERICANS MONTH EVENT.

WE'RE ALSO WORKING ON SOME, UH, SPECIFIC OLDER AMERICAN MONTH EVENTS FOR OURSELVES.

SO, BUT THOSE ARE STILL,

[01:40:01]

UM, IN A STAGE OF BEING FINALIZED THIS MONTH.

SO THESE AREAS IN MARCH WHERE IT JUST SAYS SINGING REC CENTER, WELLMED REC CENTER, ALL, UH, MARCUS ANNEX, THAT'S JUST WHEN THE SENIORS SERVICES STAFF IS GONNA BE AT THAT.

YES.

SO THE DATES THAT WE'RE THERE.

OKAY.

USUALLY POST A LITTLE FLYER ON THEIR BOARDS OF THE DATE AND TIME THAT WILL BE THERE NEXT MONTH.

OKAY.

SO PEOPLE HAVE TIME TO, UH, PUT THAT ON THEIR CALENDAR.

BUT IF WE LOOK AHEAD AS YOU WERE DOING FOR LIKE APRIL 20TH, UH, LEGAL AND FINANCIAL STRATEGIES FOR LGBT SENIORS.

MM-HMM.

, WHERE IS THAT GONNA BE? THAT'S GONNA BE AT THE SENIOR SOURCE.

SO WE'LL BE SENDING THE, UH, WE CAN SHARE THAT AS WELL.

YEAH, IF SOME OF THESE, IT WOULD JUST BE NICE TO KNOW WHERE IT'S GONNA BE.

SURE THAT YOU CAN ADD A LOCATION.

DISTRICT 11 IS GONNA BE AT FRED PARK.

YES.

THAT ONE THAT'S NOT ON HERE, BUT THAT'S GONNA BE AT FRED PARK.

YEAH, WE CAN ALSO ADD A LOCATION OVER.

WE'LL, WE'LL SEND MORE INFORMATION.

YEAH.

THANK YOU.

AND REGARDING NUMBERS, I THINK WE'VE STAYED, UM, PRETTY MUCH CONSISTENT WITH OUR CALLS.

UM, NOW THE MAJORITY OF OUR CALLS ARE REGARDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AND THAT COMES THROUGH EVERY SINGLE DISTRICT.

UM, THE OTHER TWO MAIN CONCERNS HAVE BEEN HOUSING AND HOME REPAIR, UH, AND THEN YOU CAN FIND, UM, OTHER NUMBERS FOR OUR PROGRAMS. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THE USE? WELL, MY QUESTION WOULD BE SITTING AROUND THOSE FACILITIES THAT ARE NOT THE DEDICATED FACILITIES, HOW DO YOU HANDLE THOSE? LIKE AS AN EXAMPLE OF THE MY CASE, THE LAKE HOLLANDS NORTH, UH, COMMUNITY CITY.

HOW DO YOU, HOW DO YOU APPROACH THOSE TYPES? SO HERE RELATED.

SO WE HAVE SHARED OUR FLYER WITH PARKS AND REC, UM, BUT AS I WAS ACTUALLY LOOKING AT THE NUMBERS THAT LINDSAY SHARED FOR THE, UM, DIFFERENT DISTRICT AND PARKS AND RECS, WE COULD DEFINITELY THINK FURTHER AHEAD AND, AND PLAN SOME, SOME, UH, INFORMATION SHARING AT THOSE LOCATIONS AS WELL.

BUT THAT CAN BE SOMETHING WE CAN THINK.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

GIVEN THE HOUR, I THINK WE WILL, UM, SKIP PETER COMM.

CHAIRMAN KLEIN.

YES.

I NEED TO HAVE A WORD PLEASE.

AND I KNOW THAT IT'S LATE AND I RESPECTFULLY ASK TO HAVE A WORD.

OKAY.

IN REGARD TO THE, UM, THE LUNCHEON THAT THE SENIOR SOURCE HAD, UM, THIS MONTH, I WAS THE ONE THAT TOLD YOU ABOUT THE LUNCHEON PRIOR TO YOU, UH, MAKING THE RESERVATIONS BECAUSE I'D GOTTEN AN EARLY NOTICE FROM THEM BEFORE THE END OF LAST YEAR.

AND UM, WHEN I TOLD YOU ABOUT IT, I-R-S-V-P RIGHT AWAY, I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I ARRIVED THERE TO SEE THAT THE SEAT THAT HAD BEEN RESERVED FOR ME WAS OCCUPIED BY SOMEBODY ELSE BECAUSE AT THE CHECK-IN TABLE, I WAS TOLD THAT THAT WAS MY SEAT.

I WAS EMBARRASSED, HURT, DID NOT UNDERSTAND WHY, BECAUSE RSVP MEANS THAT YOU HAVE A RESERVED PLACE TO SIT.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAPPENED.

IT TAKES A LONG TIME FOR ME TO GET FROM A TO B LONGER THAN MOST PEOPLE.

WHEN YOU TAKE ONE STEP, I TAKE THREE, MY KNEE SLIPS AND I FALL IF I DON'T HAVE MY CANE, LUCKILY I HAD MY CANE WHEN MY KNEE SLIPS GOING FROM THE DOORWAY AND MY CAR TO WHERE YOU ALL WERE.

SO IT TAKES LONGER.

I FINALLY GOT THERE.

BUT I WANT TO SAY THAT I UM, JUST FELT LIKE I WAS VERY EMBARRASSED, LUCKILY THAT I GOT TO SIT WITH MARSHA EVANS, WHO IS A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE.

I'VE KNOWN HER FOR A LONG TIME.

AND I SAT WITH MARSHA AND THE LADY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF ME IS ALSO A VOLUNTEER FOR CASA.

SO WE HAD A LOT IN COMMON AND I TALKED TO THOSE PEOPLE.

I CAN TALK TO A CHAIR, IT DOESN'T MATTER.

I JUST LIKE TO TALK AND I LIKE IT BEING AROUND PEOPLE, BUT I THINK THAT WHAT YOU ALL DID TO ME WAS HURTFUL AND YOU TALK ABOUT COMING TOGETHER AND GETTING TOGETHER AND FELLOWSHIPPING AND COMRADERY.

BUT THAT WAS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO DO IT.

AND YOU FAILED.

AND I HAD TO SAY THAT AND THE OTHER THING, NO, NO, NO, I'M NOT FINISHED.

THE OTHER THING I WANTED TO SAY IS THAT I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY EMAIL FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS.

I DON'T KNOW WHY SOMEBODY

[01:45:01]

IS SENDING ME EMAILS THAT SAYS THAT ANOTHER DEVICE IS LOGGING IN ON MY WEBSITE.

IT COMES FROM IT, BUT IT HAS A DIFFERENT TIME PERIOD.

AND I'VE TALKED TO IT.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE COMMON SENSE WHO HAVE SAID THAT IT'S COMING FROM A DIFFERENT TIME PERIOD.

IT IS USUALLY POST DATED.

AND THE GUY I TALKED TO THE LAST TIME SHOWED ME HOW TO FIX IT MYSELF ON THE UH, OKTA WEBSITE.

AND THE PERSON THAT RESPONDED ASKED ME HOW DID I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT? I TOOK PROGRAMMING WHEN I BEGAN MY COLLEGE CAREER.

SO THE PERSON THAT TOLD MY COUNSELOR'S OFFICE THAT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER, THAT THEY WOULD LOG IN MORE THAN THREE TIMES AND THEN THEY LOCKED THEMSELVES OUT.

YOU DON'T KNOW ME AND YOU DON'T KNOW MY STORY.

SO TALK TO ME.

FIRST I TOOK COMPUTER, I HAD COMPUTER AT UTA, I HAD TO DO THAT TO BECOME A TEACHER.

AND I'VE HAD COMPUTER TRAINING AT REGION 10 EDUCATIONAL SERVICE CENTER, SO I KNOW HOW TO USE A COMPUTER.

I'VE BEEN LOCKED OUT AGAIN AND LIKE I JUST TEXT MACKAY.

I HAVE TO CHANGE MY PASSWORD EVERY TWO OR THREE DAYS IN ORDER TO GET INTO MY ACCOUNT.

SO I DON'T LIKE THE HOSTILITY THAT'S GOING ON.

DON'T KNOW WHERE IT'S COMING FROM, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED.

AND THAT TEXT I SENT YOU TODAY ABOUT I BETTER NOT BE MARKED ABSENT.

I MEAN IT.

AND I SEE THAT LUCY HAGUE IS ON THE, ON THE WEBSITE.

I'M GLAD SHE IS BECAUSE THE ENVIRONMENT IN THIS MEETING, I DON'T LIKE IT AND I DON'T LIKE BEING TREATED THE WAY I'VE BEEN TREATED.

AND THAT'S ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

THANK YOU.

OKAY.

WITH THAT I'LL TAKE A MOTION.

MOTION TO ADJOURN.

SECOND.

HI PORTIA SECOND.

HI PORTIA.

SHE'S GONE.

HOW PIA OR IS THAT? I'VE BEEN TRYING TO REACH YOU.

.

HI PRETTY LADY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

I'LL CALL YOU ALL, WE ARE ADJOURNED.

BUT YOU YOU'RE WELCOME TO CONTINUE SHAUNT ME UNTIL YOU OFF CHAIR.

NO.
