[Senior Affairs Commission on April 15, 2024.]

[00:00:03]

WE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE WE HAVE ANY PUBLIC SPEAKERS IN THE ROOM.

DO WE HAVE ANYONE ONLINE THAT, UH, WISHES TO SPEAK, HAVING NONE? UH, COULD I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE MARCH 18TH MEETING? SO WE GET THREE.

SO MODES, WE GET THE KAREN THIS TIME, A SECOND, I GUESS THE OTHER DAY.

UM, DID ANYONE HAVE ANY, UH, COMMENTS OR CORRECTIONS ON THE MINUTES? OKAY.

HAVING, UH, ALL IN FAVOR OF APPROVING THE MINUTES AS PRESENTED A WA ANYBODY OPPOSED? OKAY.

UH, EVERYBODY KNOWS THE RULES FOR, UH, PHIL LEE JUST CAME IN THE ROOM, UH, FOR THE, UH, VIDEO MEETING.

HAVE TO BE VISIBLE AND, UH, AUDIBLE, UH, THROUGHOUT THE MEETING.

AND THEN THE NEXT THING WE'VE GOT ON HERE IS THE KIND OF AN UPDATE, A QUICK UPDATE ON THE, UH, SENIOR LISTENING SESSIONS THAT WE HAVE INCLUDED IN OUR, UH, IN, IN OUR, UH, ANNUAL REPORT FOR GOALS OF THE YEAR.

WE'VE STARTED WORKING ON THE FIRST TWO OF THOSE, UM, SESSIONS WHERE WE'RE GOING TO DO THE FIRST ONE, THERE'S ACTUALLY A, UH, WE WILL SEND IT OUT, IS THE NOTICE.

UH, DISTRICT FIVE POLICE IS GONNA HAVE THE FIRST ONE ON APRIL 27TH.

UM, AND THAT IS GOING TO BE AT THE PLEASANT GROVE LIBRARY, AND IT WILL BE AT NINE 30 IN THE MORNING UNTIL 11.

AND JAIME WILL, UH, LEAD OFF, FOLLOWED BY MYSELF, AND THEN OFFICE OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS AND SENIOR SERVICES WILL, UM, COME IN AND PRESENT WHAT THEY DO, AND THEN WE'LL OPEN IT UP TO QUESTIONS ABOUT WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK WE NEED TO OFFER SENIORS? AND SO, UM, FOLLOWING UP ABOUT, YES, AND WE'RE, WE'RE, WE'VE BEEN WORKING ON A PROTOTYPE PRESENTATION FORMAT AND, AND, UH, AND, UH, POWERPOINT THAT EVERYONE WILL BE ABLE TO USE BY TWEAKING IT FOR THE DEMOGRAPHICS IN YOUR OWN DISTRICTS AS THAT COMES UP.

AND WE'RE GONNA, WE'RE KIND OF TREATING PLACES, AND THEN MINE WILL BE ON MAY 2ND.

WE'RE STILL HUNTING COURT PLACE TO, UH, HAVE THAT IN DISTRICT 13, BUT WE HOPE TO HAVE THAT, UH, NEXT DAY OR SO.

AND WE WILL, UH, WHAT WE'RE GONNA DO IS TRY THESE IS IS TEST CASES, SEE HOW IT GOES, SEE WHAT WORKS, WHAT DOESN'T WORK, AND THEN MODIFY, WE CAN MODIFY IT BASED ON WHAT WE FIND IN THOSE FIRST TWO.

AND WE WILL BE, UH, WILL BE CONTACTING EVERYONE ABOUT WHEN YOU WOULD LIKE TO, UH, WHAT YOUR PREFERENCES ARE OF WHEN YOU WOULD LIKE TO HAVE YOUR, UH, SESSIONS IN YOUR DISTRICTS.

AND THAT WILL, UH, WE'RE GONNA TRY TO DO IT SOMEWHAT SYSTEMATICALLY.

WE CAN'T, THERE'S NO WAY WE CAN DO EVERYBODY ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

SO WE'RE, WE'RE THINKING ROUGHLY TWO PER MONTH, STARTING IN MAY.

IS THAT RIGHT? TWO MADE IS A BAD MONTH.

WE'VE GOT ALL KINDS OF OTHER ACTIVITIES WITH THE SENIOR ACTIVITIES, SO THAT'S WHERE, THAT'S WHERE THAT STANDS.

UH, WE'LL, WE'LL, UH, WE'LL SHARE THE, WE'LL SHARE THE POWERPOINT WITH EVERYBODY, UH, ONCE WE GET THAT FINALIZED FOR ESIS SO THAT EVERYBODY CAN SEE KIND OF WHAT THE, WHAT THE POWERPOINT LOOKS LIKE AND WHAT THE DRILL IS.

AND THEN, UH, EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND ONE OR MORE, EITHER ONE OF THESE FIRST, UH, SESSIONS JUST TO SEE HOW THEY GO AND GET INTRODUCED TO THE, UH, POSSIBILITY.

SO THAT'S WHERE WE STAND WITH THAT.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THOSE? I JUST MIGHT MAKE A COMMENT FOR ANYONE WHO'S LIKE FREAKED OUT THAT THEY'RE GONNA HAVE TO DO THIS, UM, RNA HAS DONE A FABULOUS JOB OF PUTTING TOGETHER AN OUTLINE OF WHAT SHE'S GONNA DO AND HER STAFF, WHAT I'M GONNA DO, AND WHO I NEED TO TALK TO.

SO IT'S BEEN WAY EASY.

AND I THINK THAT, UM, THIS OUTLINE THAT WE HAVE,

[00:05:01]

UM, THAT, UH, WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER RIGHT NOW WILL ALSO MAKE IT VERY EASY TO WHERE YOU REALLY JUST KIND OF LEADING THE CONVERSATION ABOUT SENIOR ISSUES MORE THAN TRYING TO PULL TOGETHER DATA.

SO I THINK IT OUGHT TO BE FAIRLY EASY TO MAKE HAPPEN.

AND WE'RE, WE'RE INCORPORATING THE, UH, INFOGRAPHICS THAT HAVE, WERE PRODUCED.

AND EVERY PRESENTATION WILL HAVE THE INFOGRAPHIC ON THE CITYWIDE NUMBERS, BUT IT'LL ALSO HAVE THE INFOGRAPHIC ON YOUR DISTRICT AND PULLING OUT SIGNIFICANT, UH, ELEMENTS OF WHAT'S DIFFERENT IN YOUR DISTRICT VERSUS THE CITY AS A WHOLE.

ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS? OKAY.

UM, THAT WILL GO ON TO NEW BUSINESS.

WE HAVE, UH, A PRESENTATION BY SUSAN WILLIAMS. SUSAN, YOU THERE? YES.

CAN YOU HEAR ME? WE CAN.

UH, SUSAN IS IS WITH R SHE'S THE ASSOCIATE STATE DIRECTOR OF OUTREACH AND ADVOCACY FOR OUR, UH, TEXAS IN THE DALLAS OFFICE.

AND I'M LOSING THE VOICE ON MY END.

I WAS, I COULD HEAR EVERYTHING FINE, BUT, UH, IT'S GONE NOW.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? I MEAN, UM, CARMEN, YOU CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING, HARMON? YES, I HEAR A VERY LOW, VERY LOW.

LET ME SEE.

LET ME PUT, IT WAS FINE.

IT'S LIKE THE VOLUME ON YOUR COMPUTER.

YEAH.

THERE, THERE, I GOT IT.

I GOT IT.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

ALL RIGHT.

THANK YOU.

THEN LET'S, LET'S TURN THE PRESENTATION OVER TO SUSAN AND, UH, LEARN ABOUT WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR, IN OUR ES.

HI.

GOOD MORNING EVERYBODY.

ARE YOU ABLE TO HEAR ME? YES.

GOOD MORNING.

AND MIKA, WILL YOU ADVANCE MY SLIDES WHEN I ASK? YEAH.

YES, YOU WILL.

OKAY, WONDERFUL.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING ME TODAY.

I LOVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT A A RP.

I APOLOGIZE FOR NOT BEING THERE IN PERSON.

I'M FEELING A LITTLE UNDER THE WEATHER, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS BETTER TO KEEP MY GERMS HOME.

UM, JUST TO GET STARTED, WE CAN GO TO THE NEXT SLIDE, MIKA.

SO I'D LOVE TO START WITH A QUOTE FROM OUR FOUNDER PEOPLE.

A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T REALLY KNOW A LOT ABOUT, UM, A A RP AND OUR HISTORY AND HER.

THIS QUOTE IS, THE HUMAN CONTRIBUTION IS THE ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS.

IT'S ONLY IN THE GIVING OF ONESELF THAT OTHERS TRU THROUGH OTHERS THAT WE TRULY LIVE.

HER NAME IS DR.

ES ETHEL PERCY ANDRES.

UM, NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

I HAVE TO START WITH A STORY ABOUT, UH, DR.

OH, YES.

TODAY I'M GONNA TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT, UM, I WAS GONNA DO AN OVERVIEW OF A ERP.

I'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR HISTORY, OUR VISION, HOW WE'RE ORGANIZED AND WHAT WE DO.

AND THEN, UM, I THOUGHT I'D JUST SHARE SOME OF THE CURRENT PRIORITIES THAT WE'RE WORKING ON AT A A RP, UM, DALLAS-FORT WORTH.

AND THEN, UH, CHAIR KLEIN HAD SOME QUESTIONS THAT I KIND OF PUT IN AT THE END, AND THEN I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR OTHER QUESTIONS AS WELL.

DOES THAT SOUND GOOD? GOOD.

OKAY, NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

SO I HAVE TO START WITH OUR HISTORY OF OUR FOUNDER, JUST BECAUSE I THINK SHE'S REALLY COOL.

UM, HER NAME IS DR.

ETHEL PERCY ANDRES.

AND SHE WAS A HIGH SCHOOL, UH, YEAH, HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN AN INNER CITY LA HIGH SCHOOL IN THE FORTIES, WHICH FOR A WOMAN, THAT WASN'T A REALLY COMMON THING.

SO I THINK THAT JUST KIND OF IS A COOL PART OF HER STORY.

SHE DID QUIT, UM, TO TAKE CARE OF HER MOTHER.

SO SHE WAS A CAREGIVER, WHICH IS ALSO PART OF THE A-E-R-P-D-N-A.

AND THEN ONE TIME SHE WAS TRYING TO GO AROUND TO FIND A TEACHER THAT SHE USED TO WORK WITH, AND SHE WENT TO THE ADDRESS THAT SHE HAD AND KNOCKED ON THE DOOR.

AND THE WOMAN THAT ANSWERED THE DOOR SAID, OH, YOU MUST MEAN THAT POOR OLD WOMAN THAT LIVES IN THE CHICKEN COOP.

SO, DR.

ANDRES WENT TO THE BACK OF THE HOUSE AND THERE WAS HER FRIEND LIVING IN A RENOVATED CHICKEN COOP BECAUSE SHE HAD BECOME ILL, COULDN'T AFFORD HER HEALTH CARE COST AS WELL AS RENT.

SO SHE WAS LIVING IN THOSE CONDITIONS.

THAT LIT A HUGE FIRE UNDER DR. ANDREWS.

SHE WAS JUST LIKE, THIS CAN'T CONTINUE.

SO SHE STARTED TRYING TO GO KNOCK ON INSURANCE COMPANIES DOORS TO TRY TO FIND SOMEBODY WHO WOULD DO A GROUP POLICY FOR RETIRED TEACHERS.

AND SHE KNOCKED ON A LOT OF DOORS AND GOT TOLD NO A LOT OF TIMES THAT FINALLY SHE GOT ONE.

SO SHE FOUNDED THE CALIFORNIA RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION BACK IN THOSE DAYS.

THEN AFTER A FEW YEARS WENT BY, A WHOLE BUNCH OF PEOPLE THAT WEREN'T IN CALIFORNIA, RETIRED TEACHERS WANTED TO BE IN ON IT.

SO SHE EXPANDED IT

[00:10:01]

AND CREATED THE NATIONAL RETIRED TEACHERS ASSOCIATION.

AND THEN 10 YEARS LATER, SHE CREATED A ERP IN 1961.

AND JUST FOR PERSPECTIVE AND THE SENIOR PERSPECTIVE, PARTICULARLY, SHE WAS 74 AT THE TIME, SHE STARTED A A RP.

SO TO, SHE'S JUST, SHE'S SOMETHING, SHE IS THE PERSON THAT WE ARE, HER VALUES AND EVERYTHING ARE PART OF OUR ASSOCIATION AND SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY BELIEVE IN, AND WE HOLD HER VALUES VERY HIGH.

EXCUSE ME.

NEXT SLIDE.

MIKA.

SO HER, HER, AS I SAID, YOU KNOW, HER, HER ISSUES REALLY HOLD TRUE TODAY.

OUR PURPOSE IS TO EMPOWER PEOPLE TO CHOOSE HOW THEY LIVE.

OUR VISION IS TO HAVE A SOCIETY IN WHICH EVERYONE LIVES WITH DIGNITY AND PURPOSE, TO FULFILL THEIR GOALS AND THEIR DREAMS. AND WE USE IMPACT INNOVATION, HUMANITY, EMPOWERMENT, AND HONESTY, AND IS THE WAY WE EXPRESS EVERYTHING THAT WE DO THROUGH BUSINESS.

NEXT SLIDE.

I DO WANNA TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW WE'RE ORGANIZED.

'CAUSE WE'RE DIFFERENT THAN A LOT OF NONPROFITS, AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE WORTH SHARING.

WE DO GET ASKED THIS QUITE A BIT.

SO A RP, WE CALL IT BIG A RP IS THE LARGEST NASH, UH, NONPROFIT ORGAN, NON-PROFIT, ORGAN NONPARTISAN ORGANIZATION THAT EMPOWERS PEOPLE TO CHOOSE HOW THEY LIVE.

SO IN THAT, ARE THE STATE OFFICES, OUR OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL, A LOT OF THE OUTREACH WORK WE DO, THE ADVOCACY WORK THAT WE DO, THAT'S ALL PART OF THAT, PART OF THE BIG, WE CALL IT BIG A RP, IT'S A 5 0 1 C FOUR.

SO WE ARE NOT-FOR-PROFIT, UM, BUT WE ARE ALLOWED TO DO LOBBYING ON ISSUES.

NEXT IS WANNA TALK ABOUT IS THE A A RP FOUNDATION, AND THEY WORK IN POVERTY BY HELPING SENIORS BUILD ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY.

THEY'RE A 5 0 1 C3, SO THEY'RE THE CHARITABLE BRANCH OF A RP.

THEY DO THINGS LIKE OUR TAX AID PROGRAM, THEY WORK ON HUNGER HOUSING ISSUES LIKE THAT.

AND THEN THE LAST PART IS A ERP SERVICES INC.

AND THAT'S A WHOLLY OWNED TAXABLE FOR-PROFIT SUBSIDIARY OF A A RP.

AND THAT'S WHERE THE MONEY FROM A RP COMES TO FUND OUR SOCIAL MISSION.

SO, UM, IT'S, THINK ABOUT LIKE THE MAGAZINE.

THEY HAVE ALL THOSE ADVERTISING DOLLARS, ALL THE PRODUCTS AND SERVICES AND DISCOUNTS.

COMPANIES PAY ROYALTIES TO BE ABLE TO BE AFFILIATED WITH THE A A RP NAME.

SO THAT'S A BIT ABOUT HOW WE ARE FUNDED.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SO, I DO WANNA STRESS THAT WE ARE NONPARTISAN.

THAT MEANS WE DO NOT SUPPORT ANY POLITICAL PARTY.

WE DON'T SUPPORT CANDIDATES OR OPPOSE CANDIDATES.

WE DON'T HAVE A PAC.

AND REALLY, IT'S PROBABLY THE ONLY THING AT A A RP THAT YOU CANNOT GET AWAY WITH IS DOING ANYTHING THAT'S PARTISAN.

SO I HAVE ONLY HAD TO FIRE A COUPLE OF PEOPLE IN MY WHOLE TIME AT A A RP AND IT'S BEEN OVER PARTISAN ISSUES.

IT'S JUST, IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO US.

AND THE REASON IT'S IMPORTANT IS BECAUSE OF THAT, REMEMBER I MENTIONED THAT 5 0 1 C FOUR STATUS THAT ALLOWS US TO LOBBY THAT, THAT WOULD BE JEOPARDIZED IF WE DID ANY PARTISAN ACTIVITY.

SO JUST WANTED TO STRESS THAT.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

SO OVER A ERP, WE REALLY HAVE THREE MAIN PILLARS.

HEALTH, SECURITY, FINANCIAL, RESILIENCE, AND SOCIAL CONNECTIONS.

UM, OF COURSE UNDER THE HEALTH, HEALTH SECURITY, IT'S THINGS LIKE CAREGIVING.

WE WORK TO PROTECT MEDICARE AND MEDICAID, UM, HEALTHY LIFESTYLES, ALL SORTS OF THINGS LIKE THAT.

ALSO, FINANCIAL RESILIENCE.

UM, WE'RE IN A MAJOR CAMPAIGN FOR THE NEXT MANY, MANY YEARS WORKING TO ENSURE SOCIAL SECURITY SOLVENCY.

WE WORK ON SAVINGS, WORKFORCE ISSUES, AND FRAUD IS A BIG ONE FOR FINANCIAL RESILIENCY.

AND THEN ALSO WE JUST STRIVE TO CREATE SOCIAL CONNECTIONS THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM, DIGITAL LITERACY, AND ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO WHAT WE DO HERE LOCALLY IS WE WORK MAINLY ON ADVOCACY.

WE DO WORK ON ADVOCACY AT THE LOCAL, THE STATE, AND THE FEDERAL LEVEL.

HERE IN THE LOCAL OFFICE IN DFW, WE DO MOSTLY LOCAL ADVOCACY.

SO WE WORK MORE WITH CITIES AND COUNTIES AND COMMUNITIES AT THAT LEVEL.

AND, UM, THEN WE ALSO DO A LOT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE MEMBERS AND VOLUNTEERS FORM A REAL POWERFUL COMMUNITY.

AND WE WORK TOWARDS THE BETTERMENT OF SOCIETY AND, UM, OUR INFORMATION.

I KNOW IF ANYBODY'S A MEMBER, YOU KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT A MAGAZINE AND A BULLETIN AND OUR WEBSITE, AND WE JUST HAVE TONS AND TONS OF GREAT INFORMATION AND WE DO A LOT OF OUTREACH PRESENTATIONS.

NEXT SLIDE, PLEASE.

SO HERE IN DALLAS ARE THESE, SOME OF OUR MAIN PRIORITIES ARE, WE DO OUTREACH, AS I MENTIONED.

SO WE HAVE A STRONG VOLUNTEER TEAM.

I THINK PEOPLE THINK A RP HAS TONS AND TONS OF EMPLOYEES.

THERE'S ACTUALLY ONLY TWO OF US IN ALL OF NORTH TEXAS.

AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WE DO IS RUN BY OUR VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE VERY HIGH LEVEL SKILLED, WONDERFUL PEOPLE THAT HAVE JUST CAREERS WORTH OF EXPERIENCE.

SO I, I LOVE MY JOB WORKING WITH VOLUNTEERS.

WHAT WE DO IN THE OUTREACH ARENA IS A LOT OF WORK ON CAREGIVING AND TRYING TO CONNECT THOSE CAREGIVERS TO THE RESOURCES THAT ARE OUT IN THE COMMUNITY.

SO WE WORK WITH ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT PARTNERS.

WE ALSO DO A LOT TO DIFFERENT FRAUD.

OLDER ADULTS ARE VICTIMIZED, UM, VERY BADLY BY FRAUDS AND, AND SCAMS. AND YOUNGER PEOPLE ARE VICTIMIZED

[00:15:01]

MORE OFTEN, BUT OLDER PEOPLE LOSE MORE MONEY.

SO IT REALLY IS A BARRIER TO FINANCIAL RESILIENCE.

SO WE TRY A LOT TO DO A LOT OF FRAUD WORK.

WE ALSO WORK ON BRAIN HEALTH, UM, HEALTHY BEHAVIORS.

WE HAVE A VARIETY OF EXERCISE CLASSES AND DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE DO.

WE HAVE A NEW PROGRAM THAT WE'RE DOING RIGHT NOW CALLED HOME FIT, OR I THINK THEY CALL IT FUTURE HOME NOW.

THAT HELPS YOU KEEP, GET YOUR HOUSE READY TO AGE IN PLACE.

AND THEN WE ALSO JUST DO A LOT OF GENERAL AWARENESS BUILDING.

AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, WE HAVE A REALLY STRONG VOLUNTEER PROGRAM.

THOSE ARE SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS THERE, BUILDING A PIECE OF PLACEMAKING FURNITURE THAT WE DID WITH BETTER BLOCK TEXAS.

AND THEN IN ADDITION TO WORKING WITH US AT THE STATE OFFICE, THERE'S ALSO OPPORTUNITIES TO WORK WITH THE FOUNDATION DOING DRIVER SAFETY OR TAX AID.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

SO SOME OF OUR MAIN PRIORITIES ARE, WHAT YOU PROBABLY ALL KNOW ME THE MOST FOR IS OUR AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES.

I'M WORKING ON THE EIGHT DOMAINS OF LIVABILITY AND LOCAL ADVOCACY.

WE ALSO DO A LOT ON VOTER ENGAGEMENT.

YOU KNOW, WE'RE, WE'RE NONPARTISAN, SO WE DON'T TELL ANYBODY HOW TO VOTE, BUT WE DO A LOT OF TELE-TOWN HALLS AND WE DO EMAILS AND JUST ALL SORTS OF OUTREACH TO HELP PEOPLE KNOW WHEN TO VOTE, HOW TO VOTE, HOW TO MAKE SURE YOUR VOTE'S BEING COUNTED AND THAT TYPE OF STUFF.

AND THEN, AS I MENTIONED A LITTLE MINUTE AGO, WE ARE WORKING TO PROTECT SOCIAL SECURITY AND MEDICARE.

I THINK EVERYBODY'S AWARE THAT SOCIAL SECURITY IS NOT IN DIRE STRAITS, BUT IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS, UM, THOSE, THE TRUST FUND'S GONNA RUN OUT.

SO WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING NOW THAT'S KIND OF COMMON SENSE.

AND SO WE'RE TRYING TO GET CONGRESS TO MAKE SOME REASONABLE CHANGES TO THE PROGRAM SO THEN IT CAN REMAIN SOLVENT FOR YEARS TO COME AND FULFILL THE PROMISE THAT WE'VE MADE TO EVERYBODY THAT'S PAYING INTO IT.

THAT'S NOT NEW WORK FOR US.

WE'RE GONNA CONTINUE DOING A LOT OF THAT.

UM, BUT IT'S, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO THE WORK THAT WE DO.

NEXT SLIDE.

SO JUST A ERP TEXAS JUST WANTED TO MENTION WE HAVE FIVE OFFICES AND IT'S IN AUSTIN, DALLAS, HOUSTON, SAN ANTONIO, AND EL PASO.

MY COLLEAGUE ZULEMA, SOLE, SOLE AND I WORK ON DALLAS AND FORT WORTH.

SHE DOES MOST OF THE AGE-FRIENDLY WORK IN FORT WORTH.

I LEAD MOST OF THE AGE-FRIENDLY WORK IN DALLAS.

NEXT SLIDE.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE HAD.

I'LL JUST GO AHEAD AND TRY TO ANSWER THEM THE BEST I CAN.

ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS AT THIS POINT THAT ANYBODY WOULD LIKE TO ASK? ONE, WHAT WAS THE VOTER ENGAGEMENT PIECE OF YOUR STRATEGY? WE DO, OUR, OUR EFFORT IN VOTER ENGAGEMENT IS TO INFORM THE COMMUNITY ON HOW TO VOTE.

SO WHAT WE DO IS WE DO TELE-TOWN HALLS WITH THE LOCAL VOTER AUTHORITIES AND, UM, GIVE PEOPLE THE DATES, HOW TO DO IT.

WE EXPLAIN HOW TO GET, UM, A MAIL-IN BALLOT, UM, ALL THAT SORT OF STUFF, JUST SORT OF THE DETAILS OF VOTING.

WE ALSO SEND OUT POSTCARDS AND WE DO SOME EVENTS, ALTHOUGH WE DON'T REGISTER PEOPLE TO VOTE.

WE HAVE PARTNERED WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS TO DO SOME VOTER, UM, ENGAGEMENT TYPE THINGS.

WE'VE ALSO TAKEN WHOLE, UM, YOU CALL THOSE THINGS WHERE YOU VOTE THE LITTLE POLL MACHINES.

WE'VE TAKEN THOSE INTO COMMUNITY CENTERS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE VOTER AUTHORITY, THE VOTING AUTHORITY TO SHOW PEOPLE JUST HOW TO USE THE MACHINES IN GENERAL, JUST TO KIND OF TAKE SOME OF THAT FEAR OUT OF IT.

DID THAT ANSWER? YES.

IF THAT'S YOUR ANSWER? YES.

OKAY, GREAT.

SO SAY THERE'S SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WERE POSED BY CHAIR KLEIN.

WHAT DOES AIR A ERP BELIEVE ARE THE FIVE MOST CRITICAL PROBLEMS FACING THE SENIOR COMMUNITY? UM, I'M GONNA ANSWER AS ME, BUT I THINK, UM, IT ALSO HOLDS TRUE WITH WHAT WE'VE LEARNED THROUGH A ERP.

AND IT'S NOTHING THAT ANYONE IN THIS ROOM HASN'T ALREADY THOUGHT OF.

UM, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH I THINK ARE VERY, VERY IMPORTANT.

WELLNESS ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE HEALTH, ACCESS TO SERVICES, COMMUNITY SUPPORT PROGRAMS, AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT ARE SUPER IMPORTANT AND SOMETHING THAT WE REALLY THINK ARE, ARE JUST ISSUES THAT WE NEED TO CONSTANTLY BE WORKING ON.

THE SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT PIECE HAS CHANGED A BIT SINCE THE PANDEMIC.

IT REALLY CAME TO SUCH A HEAD IN SUCH A CRITICAL TIME WHEN EVERYBODY WAS LOCKED IN THEIR HOUSES FOR SO LONG.

SO I THINK, UM, ADDING THAT MENTAL HEALTH PART OF IT IS, IS REALLY IMPORTANT.

WE DO A LOT OF PROGRAMMING WITH EXERCISE CLASSES AND MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS AND MEDITATION AND DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE THAT THAT WE OFFER IN THE COMMUNITY.

UM, THE NEXT ONE OF COURSE IS HOUSING.

THAT'S ONE THAT'S ALWAYS THERE.

BUT HAVING ACCESS TO AFFORDABLE AND MIDDLE INCOME HOUSING, I THINK, UM, ANOTHER ISSUE IN HOUSING THAT WE HAVE LEARNED.

UM, I WORK WITH THE OFFICE IN THE CITY QUITE A BIT ON DOING, UM, A HOUSING WEBINAR ONCE A YEAR.

AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE HEAR FROM OLDER ADULTS ALL THE TIME IS THAT THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THEIR DOCUMENTS.

SO HAVING CLEAN TITLES AND OTHER DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE SO THAT THEY CAN ACCESS THE SERVICES IS SOMETHING THAT WE'RE TRYING TO REALLY WORK ON A LOT MORE BECAUSE I THINK THAT'S, THAT'S CRITICAL TO PEOPLE GETTING THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED.

TRANSPORTATION, HAVING A VARIETY OF AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS IS CRITICAL.

YOU CAN HAVE ALL THE

[00:20:01]

PROGRAMMING AND SOCIAL SERVICES, SOCIAL AND SUPPORTS IN THE WORLDS, AND IF PEOPLE CAN'T GET THERE, IT DOESN'T WORK.

UM, FINANCIAL SECURITY, HAVING JOBS, CAREER TRAINING, UH, DIGITAL LITERACY TRAINING, AND THEN AGAIN, PROTECTION FROM FRAUD AND SCAMS. IT IS A SCOURGE AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE ALL THINK WE REALLY NEED TO BE FOCUSING AND WORKING ON.

AND THEN THE LAST ONE I PUT FOR MY, UM, WHEN I WAS TRYING TO NARROW IT DOWN TO FIVE WAS CAREGIVERS.

UM, THIS KIND OF A TIES INTO ALL OF THE ABOVE, BUT ESPECIALLY AFFORDABLE AND APPROPRIATE HOUSING FOR THE, FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE, THAT ARE BEING CARED FOR, BUT ALSO FOR THE CAREGIVERS.

IF A COMMUNITY GETS TOO EXPENSIVE TO LIVE IN, IT'S REALLY HARD TO FIND CAREGIVING SUPPORT.

SO THE NEXT QUESTION IS, HOW HAS A A RP REFINED ITS PROGRAMMING AND FOCUS OVER THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS AND WHAT OUR CURRENT PRIORITIES ARE, WHAT WE'VE HAD THE, THE GREATEST IMPACT IN? SO I MEAN, LIKE EVERYBODY DURING THE PANDEMIC, OF COURSE, WE MOVED A LOT TO DIGITAL AND I, I WAS NOT THINKING THAT WAS GONNA BE SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD CONTINUE DOING OR SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE SUPER IMPORTANT TO US GOING FORWARD AFTER WE WERE ALL ABLE TO GET TOGETHER IN PERSON.

BUT I'M SHOCKED BY HOW EFFECTIVE A DIGITAL STRATEGY IS.

SO I KNOW IN OUR OFFICE WE TRY TO DO ABOUT 40% IN PERSON AND 60% DIGITAL WHEN WE DO OUR OUTREACH AND THE PROGRAM THAT WE DO.

UM, WE'RE TRYING TO DO A LOT MORE AROUND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMING, SO MORE FUN THINGS.

WE CALL IT FUN WITH PURPOSE.

UM, I'M PARTNERING WITH A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS INCLUDING, UM, THE CITY OF DALLAS ON A BRAIN HEALTH AND MUSIC CONCERT.

SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE A CONCERT IN CELEBRATION OF BLACK, UM, MUSIC APPRECIATION MONTH IN JUNE, BUT WE'RE ALSO GONNA TAP SOME SPEAKERS ON THE TIE IN BETWEEN BRAIN HEALTH AND MUSIC.

SO THAT'S AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THE PRIORITIES THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING.

AND AGAIN, JUST DOING, OFFERING THINGS IN A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT WAYS, INCLUDING VIRTUAL ON THE COMPUTER, HAS BEEN REALLY A STRATEGIC TWIST IN WHAT WE'VE BEEN DOING, BUT REALLY SUCCESSFUL FOR US.

AND THE NEXT QUESTION WAS, IF YOU HAD MORE RESOURCES, WHAT AREAS WOULD YOU PLACE MORE FOCUS ON? SO IF I HAD MORE FUNDING PERSONALLY FOR THROUGH A A RP, I WOULD DO MORE IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING.

IT'S REALLY EXPENSIVE TO DO THOSE AND IT TAKES A LOT.

UM, AND I'D LIKE TO HAVE SOME MONEY TO PLAY AROUND WITH JUST SOME TRIAL AND ERROR TO TRY TO FIND A SOLUTION TO THE NO-SHOW PROBLEM.

I THINK EVERYBODY WHO DOES COMMUNITY OUTREACH IS FACING THE SAME THING, BUT I SOMETIMES WILL THROW AN EVENT FOR 300 PEOPLE AND HAVE 300 PEOPLE REGISTERED AND 60 SHOW UP.

MM-HMM, .

AND IT BECOMES A REALLY BAD DEAL WHEN IT COMES TO FUNDING AND TRYING, YOU KNOW, IF I PAY FOR LUNCHES FOR 300 PEOPLE, THAT'S $3,000 AND THEN I ONLY FEED 60.

SO, UH, JUST TRYING TO FIGURE OUT, I WOULD LIKE TO JUST DO SOME TRIALS TO SEE WHAT WOULD MAKE PEOPLE TURN UP MORE OFTEN WHEN THEY REGISTER.

AND THEN THE OTHER ISSUE THAT I THINK I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO FOCUS MORE ON IF I JUST HAD ENDLESS FUNDING WAS HOW TO GET BUILDERS AND DEVELOPERS TO INCORPORATE MORE UNIVERSAL DESIGN ELEMENTS INTO IT.

WHEN THE HOMES ARE BUILT, AS I MENTIONED, WE'RE DOING A LOT OF THAT FUTURE HOME STUFF ON HOW TO RETROFIT YOUR HOME TO AGE IN PLACE, BUT WOULDN'T IT MAKE SENSE TO HAVE ALL THOSE FEATURES BUILT INTO THE HOME TO BEGIN WITH? BECAUSE REALLY WHAT'S GOOD FOR AN 8-YEAR-OLD IS GOOD FOR AN 80-YEAR-OLD WHEN IT COMES TO THINGS LIKE THAT.

SO THAT'S, THOSE ARE SOME THINGS I'D LOVE TO DO.

UM, IN TERMS OF OUR COMMUNITY IN DALLAS, I'D LOVE TO SEE US AS A CITY AND JUST COMMUNITY INVEST MORE IN AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND HAVE SENIOR CENTERS, UM, AND SPECIALIZED TRANSPORTATION IN LOCAL COMMUNITIES WOULD BE MY AREAS THAT I WOULD PICK WAS MOST IMPORTANT.

AND THEN THE NEXT QUESTION, WHAT WAS YOUR VIEW ON HOW TO BEST F FACILITATE SENIOR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES? AND I THINK THAT IS TRAINING.

I THINK, UM, THE DIGITAL GAP MM-HMM.

IS GETTING BIGGER AND HARDER TO, TO LEAP THROUGH.

I FEEL LIKE EVERY DAY I COME TO WORK, I HAVE TO LEARN SOMETHING NEW IN TECHNOLOGY.

SO I THINK HAVING MORE TRAINING FOR OLDER ADULTS ON TECHNOLOGY ITSELF, I THINK WOULD BE REALLY IMPORTANT AS FAR AS JUST KIND OF HOW TO GET A JOB AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP.

UM, THERE'S STILL JOB DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORLD AND QUITE A BIT OF IT.

SO SOMETIMES OLDER ADULTS CAN START THEIR OWN BUSINESS AND START THEIR SECOND CAREER THAT WAY.

AND I THINK THAT'S, THAT'S A REALLY COOL WAY TO KIND OF FACILITATE SENIOR EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES.

AND THEN THE LAST QUESTION WITH ANY TOPICS THAT I THINK THAT YOU ALL SHOULD BE PRIORITIZING IN YOUR WORK WITH CITY COUNCIL, AND I JUST WANNA SAY IT IS THE WORK THAT YOU DO IS SO IMPORTANT IN JUST BRINGING THE SENIORS FACE TO EVERYTHING THAT WE DO.

A LOT OF TIMES OLDER ADULTS ARE AN AFTERTHOUGHT, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO THE BEGINNING OF PLANNING AND THINGS.

AND SO IF YOU GUYS ARE JUST THERE WORKING WITH CITY COUNCIL, KEEPING JUST KEEPING SENIORS IN THE FOREFRONT, I THINK IS IS AMAZING THE WORK THAT YOU GUYS DO.

SO THAT'S KIND OF ALL I WAS GONNA SHARE.

IS THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT ANYBODY HAS FOR ME? ? I'M SURE RENEE.

ALL RIGHT.

SO HI SUSAN, IT'S RENEE CLARK.

HEY RENEE.

UM, HOW ARE YOU DOING? GREAT.

UM, SO HOW DO PEOPLE FIND OUT, HOW DO YOU COMMUNICATE ABOUT YOUR CLASSES?

[00:25:01]

SO ALL OF THE PROGRAMS THAT YOU HAVE REALLY SOUND, YOU KNOW, AMAZING PARTICULARLY OR IN-PERSON CLASSES AND SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE DEALING WITH.

HOW DO WE KNOW ABOUT THOSE? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION AND PROBABLY SOMETHING I SPEND 80% OF MY TIME WORRYING ABOUT.

WE DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO SEND EMAILS TO OUR MEMBERS SO PEOPLE, WE CAN ONLY EMAIL PEOPLE THAT HAVE GIVEN US PERMISSION TO EMAIL THEM.

SO DOING THAT, UM, I USUALLY DO PAPER FLYERS.

UM, THE PARK AND REC AND LIBRARIES HAVE BEEN REALLY GREAT ABOUT HELPING US PROMOTE IT AND THEN JUST SHOOTING IT AROUND TO ALL THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS IN THE SENIOR NETWORK HELPS US GET THE WORD OUT.

BUT, UM, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE SOME UNIVERSAL OLDER ADULT CALENDAR WHERE WE COULD ALL POST THE THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON.

AND, AND I DO THINK THAT A LOT OF THE ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE THE SENIOR COMMUNITY ARE STARTING TO WORK TOGETHER A LOT MORE SO THAT WE CAN KIND OF GET MORE BANG FOR OUR BUCK WITH THE OUTREACH THAT WE DO AND HELP PROMOTE EACH OTHER'S STUFF.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

YEAH, DAVID, GO AHEAD.

WELL, WELL I WAS JUST WONDERING WHEN YOU MENTIONED THE, UM, GETTING IT AROUND, ARE YOU PUTTING THESE FLYERS, UM, AT THE, UH, SENIOR CENTERS AND COMMUNITY CENTERS IN IN THE CITY? WE DO WHAT WE DO.

I'VE GOT A DISTRIBUTION LIST THAT JUST EMAILS THE FLYERS TO THE CENTERS AND WE ASK THEM TO PRINT THEM OUT AND POST THEM.

AND I THINK SOME, SOME CENTERS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS AT ACTUALLY DOING IT.

AND THEN IF I HAVE VOLUNTEERS THAT LIVE NEAR COMMUNITY CENTERS, WE'VE GOT A CORE GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS CALLED A STEERING COMMITTEE AND THEY TAKE THE PAPER FLYERS AND THEY TRY TO DISTRIBUTE 'EM IN THEIR COMMUNITIES.

OKAY.

ALRIGHT.

THANK YOU SIR.

IF ANYBODY HAS IDEAS ON HOW TO BETTER PROMOTE, I'D LOVE TO HEAR THEM AS WELL.

LET'S SEE.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS, KAREN? ANYBODY ELSE ON LINE? I, I DIDN'T SEE ANYBODY ELSE WAVING AT ME.

SO I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS.

UM, ONE IS I'M BECOMING MORE AWARE OF THE NEED FOR, UH, PEOPLE TO, UH, FILE FOR THEIR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION AND FOR THEIR SENIOR EXEMPTION.

AND YOU MENTIONED, SO DO YOU HAVE, LIKE I I'M THINKING OF TRYING TO ORGANIZE A MEETING IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD FOR THIS.

DO YOU HAVE INDIVIDUALS THAT COULD COME AND ASSIST PEOPLE WITH THAT? IS THAT WHAT YOU WERE SAYING? OR VOLUNTEERS OR? NO, WE REALLY DON'T.

UM, WE DON'T DO ANY DIRECT SERVICES.

WE JUST SORT OF CONNECT WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT DO THINGS.

SO THAT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WE CURRENTLY DO, BUT IT'S, IT'S, IT'S INTERESTING AND I THINK IT'S A GOOD IDEA.

SO DO YOU HAVE A RESOURCE MAYBE, I MEAN, I, I CAN CONTACT YOU DIRECTLY, BUT WE GET THIS PULLED TOGETHER, BUT I, I YOU FOR DOING THAT.

ONE, ONE THING THAT I'M TRYING TO DO THAT WE HAVE SOME, A PROGRAM CALLED COMMUNITY CHALLENGE GRANTS, AND IT'S OUR NATIONAL LIVABLE COMMUNITIES ORGANIZATION DOES, GIVES GRANT MAKING FOR, FOR SMALL COMMUNITY PROJECTS THAT WILL SPARK ADDITIONAL CHANGE.

AND I NOTICED THAT SOME OF THE ONES THAT WE HAD THIS LAST YEAR WERE AROUND HELP HELPING PEOPLE GET CLEAR ACCESS TO DOCUMENTATION AND, AND I THOUGHT THOSE WERE SOME OF THE MORE INTERESTING PROJECTS THAT WE RECOMMENDED FOR FUNDING.

AND THEN SWITCHING, UM, BACK TO WHAT YOU WERE DISCUSSING EARLIER, YOU SAID YOU THAT A A RP AND I GET YOUR INFORMATION, BUT I PROMISE, I, I'M SORRY I DON'T READ EVERYTHING, BUT WHAT ARE YOU SPECIFICALLY ABOUT ASKING CONGRESS TO DO ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY? I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THAT.

SO, UH, YOU AND EVERYBODY ELSE, A RP DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE A POLICY OF OR ANYTHING TO FIND ABOUT WHAT WE ARE ASKING CONGRESS TO DO.

WHAT WE'RE ASKING CONGRESS TO DO IS TO ACT EARLY AND ACT NOW BEFORE THE, THE PROGRAM IS IN, IN JEOPARDY.

SO THERE'S A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS OUT THERE FLOATING AROUND, RAISING THE RETIREMENT AGE, RAISING THE INCOME CAP.

UM, THERE'S A LOT THAT WE DISCUSS WHEN WE GO OUT AND TALK ABOUT SOCIAL SECURITY AS JUST OPTIONS FOR SOLVENCY, BUT WE DO NOT HAVE A FORMAL POLICY ON WHAT WE'RE GOING TO SUPPORT AT THIS POINT.

WELL, I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU ARE.

THANK YOU.

THANKS.

I HAVE, I HAVE A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS.

ONE, UH, IS IT, IS IT A FAIR CHARACTERIZATION TO SAY THAT, THAT A A RP IS REALLY A RESOURCE TO PROVIDERS OF SERVICES TO SENIORS AS OPPOSED TO A RESOURCE TO SENIORS? UM, YES.

B, BOTH.

I MEAN, WE HAVE A TON OF INFORMATION.

IF YOU GO TO OUR WEBSITE, IT'S ALMOST TOO MUCH INFORMATION IN MY OPINION, SOMETIMES TO FIND STUFF.

BUT WE HAVE EVERYTHING FROM, THERE'S A CAREGIVER RESOURCE AREA THAT HAS THINGS LIKE HOW YOU CAN FIND ADULT DAYCARE BY ZIP CODE.

I MEAN, WE JUST HAVE A LOT OF INFORMATION FOR THE END USER AS WELL, BUT WE ALSO WORK WITH OTHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS TO HELP SPREAD THE WORD.

DO YOU HAVE A LIST OF ALL OF THE COMMUNITY PARTNERS

[00:30:01]

THAT YOU WORK WITH THAT, UH, YOU COULD SHARE WITH US? UM, YEAH, I THINK I PROBABLY DO SOME.

I DON'T THINK I'VE GOT IT FORMALIZED AND I'VE GOT IT IN MY HEAD AND I'VE GOT A LITTLE REAL UGLY SPREADSHEET THAT I USE WHEN I'M SENDING OUT EMAILS.

BUT I'D BE HAPPY TO SHARE YEAH, IF YOU, YOU, A LOT OF THE PEOPLE THAT WHEN WE WERE STARTING THE AGE FRIENDLY WORK THAT WE WERE FINDING PEOPLE THAT WORKED IN HOUSING, TRANSPORTATION, COMMUNITY OUTREACH, COMMUNICATION, THAT KIND OF STUFF THAT WE WORKED WITH.

YEAH.

AND THEN ONE LAST QUESTION FROM ME, UH, IS I RECEIVED SOLICITATIONS ASKING ME TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE A A RP FOUNDATION YEAH.

AND AND THE, UH, MY, I GUESS MY QUESTION IS WHY WOULD I, HOW DOES THAT MONEY GET USED? DOES, DOES IT COME BACK TO DALLAS? DOES THAT MONEY COME BACK TO DALLAS? OR WHY WOULD I GIVE MONEY TO THAT AS OPPOSED TO GIVING MONEY TO ANY, YOU KNOW, DNA OR SENIOR SOURCE OR ANYBODY ELSE THAT'S SERVING SENIORS IN TOWN? YEAH.

UM, I, I THINK, I DON'T THINK THAT I COULD JUST SIT HERE BEFORE YOU AND SAY THAT MONEY COMES SPECIFICALLY BACK TO DALLAS.

SO IF YOU'RE INVESTING IN THE LOCAL COMMUNITY, IT MIGHT BE BETTER TO GO WITH SOME OF THE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS THAT SERVE OUR COMMUNITY.

THE FOUNDATION DOES WORK ON SENIOR POVERTY AS A WHOLE THOUGH, SO THEY WORK ON REALLY IMPORTANT ISSUES LIKE HUNGER AND MAKING SURE PEOPLE HAVE HOUSING AND THE THINGS THAT THEY NEED JUST TO SURVIVE.

UM, WE DO A, THEY DON'T DO POLICY MAKING, BUT THEY DO RECOMMENDATIONS TO A A RP TO CHANGE POLICIES, TO SUPPORT OLDER ADULTS AS WELL.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

SURE.

I HAVE MORE OF A COMMENT, SUSAN, THAN A QUESTION.

I'M ROB FRIEDMAN.

UM, YOU ASKED EARLIER ABOUT RECOMMENDATIONS FOR COMMUNICATING AND, AND COMMUNICATING AND GROWING AWARENESS OF YOUR SERVICES AT A LOCAL LEVEL.

MM-HMM.

.

UM, I THINK CERTAINLY WHAT YOU'RE SEEING IS A LOT OF PEOPLE DIDN'T KNOW THAT.

EVEN I, I KNOW I DIDN'T KNOW THAT A A THAT YOU EXISTED AS A LOCAL A R YEAH.

UM, SERVICE.

AND SO I WOULD SAY WE'VE RECEIVED A TON OF COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION, BUT I'VE NEVER NOTED IN ANY OF THOSE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THE FACT THAT THERE IS LOCAL HELP AVAILABLE.

AND SO IT WOULD BE THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION THAT I THINK COULD BE MOST EFFECTIVE.

IT ACTUALLY COMMUNICATING THAT NOT JUST IN DALLAS, BUT ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, THAT YOU CAN REACH OUT TO YOUR INDIVIDUAL LOCAL OFFICES FOR SUPPORT.

UM, AND I THINK THAT WOULD GO A LONG WAY, ESPECIALLY GIVEN HOW MANY COMMUNICATIONS THAT I KNOW I RECEIVE FROM THE NATIONAL OFFICE.

SO TWO COMMENTS.

UM, THE COMMUNICATION THAT YOU GET FROM THE NATIONAL OFFICE CAN BE REALLY OVERWHELMING.

AND I, IT GETS ON EVERYBODY'S NERVES AND I, THAT'S SOMETHING I HEAR EVERY TIME I STEP OUT THE DOOR.

YOU CAN GO INTO YOUR ARP.ORG PROFILE AND REQUEST WHAT YOU WANT TO BE KEPT IN TOUCH WITH.

SO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN SOCIAL SECURITY ADVOCACY, IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN, IN MOVIES AND ENTERTAINMENT, THAT KIND OF THINGS, YOU CAN CLICK THAT.

SO IT CAN LIMIT SOME OF THAT.

SO THAT'S JUST HELPFUL, I THINK, FOR PEOPLE TO KNOW BECAUSE, UM, I KNOW THAT IT'S A LOT THAT THEY SEND OUT.

SURE.

BUT I THINK THEY COULD BE REALLY EFFECTIVE AT PROMOTING YOU.

AND WE'RE TRYING TO DO THAT MORE AND MORE.

SO WE DO HAVE THE ABILITY TO, ONCE A QUARTER, I THINK WE CAN PUT A LITTLE BLURB IN THE BULLETIN.

SO WE USUALLY TRY TO PUT SOMETHING UP AT OUR LOCAL OFFICE AND LOCAL WORK THAT WE'RE DOING THAT GOES OUT NATIONALLY.

AND THEN DURING THE PANDEMIC, A A RP STARTED SOMETHING THEY CALL THE VIRTUAL COMMUNITY CENTER.

AND IT IS VIRTUAL OFFERINGS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

SO SAY I'M DOING AN EVENT, LIKE I'VE MENTIONED, I'M DOING THAT BRAIN HEALTH AND MUSIC CONCERT, I WILL SEND THAT TO THE VIRTUAL COMMUNITY CENTER, AND THEN THEY SELECT A VARIETY OF EVENTS TO POST ON THAT NATIONALLY.

AND THEN THEY ALSO SEND A NATIONAL EMAIL OUT.

SO THAT IS, THAT'S BEEN A REALLY EFFECTIVE WAY FOR US TO PROMOTE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

I DON'T KNOW THAT IT HELPS THAT MUCH PROMOTING IN COMMUNITY THOUGH.

UH, LIKE I DO AN EXERCISE CLASS EVERY TUESDAY AT 10 O'CLOCK CALLED NEO MOVING TO HEAL, AND THERE'S PROBABLY 500 PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD THAT ATTEND THAT CLASS.

BUT NOT, NOT AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT THAT ARE IN MY LOCAL COMMUNITY.

BUT I, I, I AGREE WITH YOU THOUGH.

I WOULD LOVE TO FIND MORE WAYS FOR NATIONAL TO HELP US GET THE WORD OUT.

WE DO HAVE, THEY HAVEN'T BEEN IN, THEY'VE INVESTED QUITE A BIT OF MONEY IN US IN THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS.

WE'RE DOING A PILOT PROJECT WHERE THEY'RE GIVING US, UH, MONEY TO DO AN AIR GAME OVER THE WORK THAT WE DO.

SO WE HAVE MONEY TO DO RADIO PROMOTION, TELEVISION PROMOTION.

I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY'S NOTICED AN INCREASE IN WHAT YOU'RE SEEING ABOUT A A RP, BUT WE'RE ON NEXTDOOR.

UM, JUST ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT PLATFORMS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO SEE HOW WE CAN HELP BETTER SPREAD THE GOAL.

WE CALL IT GO LOCAL, THE GO LOCAL MESSAGE.

OKAY.

WELL, I, WE, WE REALLY NEED TO MOVE ON WITH OUR AGENDA, UH, AT THIS POINT.

THANK YOU SUSAN, VERY MUCH FOR, UH, JOINING US TODAY.

[00:35:01]

AND, UM, I WOULDN'T BE SURPRISED IF WE GET SOME FOLLOW UP QUESTIONS DIRECTLY.

YEP.

PLEASE.

I'LL PUT MY CONTACT INFORMATION IN THE CHAT IF THAT'S HELPFUL.

OKAY.

THAT'D BE GREAT.

I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING WITH HER.

I'M GONNA ANSWER KAREN.

SO SHE, IF WE DO WITH HER, I WANT TO DIRECT IT TO CAROL.

OKAY.

, CAN I, I MEAN, CAN I DO IT NOW? WHAT, WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO, THIS IS WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY.

KAREN, DID YOU ASK HER ABOUT THE TAX EXEMPTION AND DID SHE HAVE SOMEBODY? WELL, JUST BEFORE I GOT HERE TODAY, I WAS AT ELOISE LUNDY.

JOHN AMES WAS THERE, AND I WAS GONNA TELL YOU THAT I COULD, UH, CONNECT YOU WITH HIM.

AND HE WAS SAYING HE WOULD LOVE TO COME TO DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES.

I JUST MET WITH HIM IN MY CENTER AT ELOISE LONDON.

SO I SAY TEXAS, HE GAVE US A WHOLE POWER AFTER THE THING.

THAT'S GREAT.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

HE'S JUST, ALRIGHT.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH SUSAN.

YOU BET.

AL WILL YOU MAKE SURE THAT HER CONTACT INFORMATION GETS DISTRIBUTED TO EVERYBODY .

OKAY.

NEXT UP IS THE DALLAS AREA AGENCY ON AGING.

AND I BELIEVE WE'VE GOT HERE.

OKAY.

I'M CINDY.

GOOD AFTERNOON, IKA.

CAN YOU PICK HER UP IF SHE SITS THERE FOR THEM? YOU WANT TO GO WHERE? SO DID THEY COME NEXT TO YOU? YES, SURE.

WE'RE RIGHT HERE.

HERE.

COME HERE.

THERE'S THIS ONE HERE.

THAT'S WHAT I WAS TRYING TO, YOU NEED TO BE ON CAMERA SO HE KNOWS A LOT OF ABOUT, WE HAVE DORIS SOLAR AND, UM, JESSICA WALKER HERE TODAY.

YES, YES, YES.

HI, HOW ARE YOU? HAPPY HERE.

GOOD.

A MILONE.

ARE WE READY TO START? WE'RE READY.

OKAY.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE INVITATION.

WE ARE EXCITED TO BE HERE TODAY.

UH, ON BEHALF OF THE CEO CHARLA MARS, UM, UM, SHE WAS THE ONE THAT INVITED ME AND SAID, OKAY, IT TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE OUR SERVICES.

SO WE ARE GONNA TALK TODAY ABOUT COMMUNITY COUNCIL, WHERE THE DALLAS, THE DALLAS AREA C UM, I'M THE SENIOR DIRECTOR FOR THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND ALSO I OVERSEE THE DA SIDE AGENCY ON A AND JESSICA, UM, OVERSEE THE COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROGRAM.

SHE'S GONNA TALK IN DETAIL ABOUT THE SERVICES THAT THEY PROVIDE.

UM, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL, UM, AND I DON'T KNOW IF SOME OF YOU KNOW, WE'VE BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, 80 PLUS YEARS.

OKAY.

LAST YEAR WE CELEBRATE OUR 80 ANNIVERSARY AND UM, WE ARE PROVIDING, WE ARE A NONPROFIT PROVIDING SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY, UM, IN ALL ASPECTS FROM 18 YEARS OLD FAMILIES AND, UM, TO OLDER ADULTS, YOU KNOW, WHICH IS THE MAJOR PROGRAM FOR THE COUNCIL.

UM, OUR MISSION IS BASICALLY, UM, PROVIDING LEADERSHIP IN MOVING FAMILY AND INDIVIDUALS FROM SURVIVING TOWARDS STABILITY.

SO BASICALLY WHAT WE DO IS MAKING SURE THAT WHEN THE FAMILY COMES TO US, THEY FIND ALL THE RESOURCES THAT THEY NEED.

OKAY.

RESOURCES FOR CHILDREN, FOR MOM AND DAD, FOR GRANDMA AND GRANDPA, FOR EVERYBODY IN THE FAMILY.

NEXT, UNDER UMBRELLA COMMUNITY COUNCIL, WE HAVE MAJOR, UH, LIKE OUR MAJOR FIVE PROGRAMS. AND THE FIRST ONE IS THE 2 1 1 INFORMATION SERVICE.

AND I'M GONNA GO OVER IN DETAIL OF ALL OF THESE SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE.

THE DALLAS AREA AGENCY AND AGING ECONOMIC MOBILITY, UM, COMMUNITY WELLNESS PROGRAMS, AND ALSO THE APPLICATION ASSISTANCE, WHICH IS GONNA THINK GETS TO COVERAGE.

THANKS.

SLIDE.

THE SERVICES ARE DEFINED AS PA OKAY.

2 1 1.

SO I DON'T KNOW IF ANYBODY KNOWS WHAT IS 2 1 1.

OKAY.

YOU NEED A SERVICE, YOU GO 2 1 1 2, 1 1 WILL CONNECT YOU.

SO IT IS MORE LIKE A RESOURCE CALLING CENTER THAT CONNECT ANY CALLS THAT ARE COMING FROM FAMILY TO SENIOR TO RESOURCES IN DALLAS COUNTY.

OKAY.

THEY ARE 24 7, THEY'RE OPERATING 24 7 AND THEY ARE LOCATED IN OUR FACILITIES, UM, IN, IN NORTH SECTOR.

UM, SO ET UM, DALLAS AGENCY ON NAVY.

SO DALLAS ARABIAN IS BASICALLY AN AGENCY THAT IS PROVIDING THAT YOU ALL KNOW SERVICES FOR SENIOR OVERSEAS IN DALLAS COUNTY.

OKAY.

OUR MAIN PRIORITY AND MISSION IS TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR SENIORS ARE INDEPENDENT AND HOME SAFE AND HEALTHY.

THAT'S OUR MISSION.

OKAY.

COMMUNITY WELLNESS AND JESSICA IS GONNA TALK MORE ABOUT THIS PROGRAM, BUT THE PROGRAM PROVIDES DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM, CHRONIC DISEASE, UM, AND PREVENTION PROGRAMS

[00:40:01]

LIKE, UM, PAIN SELF-MANAGEMENT PROGRAMS, THIRD PROGRAM, FULL PREVENTION AND AND MEDICATION REVIEW OR JESSICA GOING DETAIL FOR THESE SERVICES.

ECONOMIC MOBILITY.

ECONOMIC MOBILITY.

AND I KNOW SUSAN MENTIONED WE WORK VERY CLOSELY, SUSAN AND SHE'S PART OF OUR ADVISORY BOARD.

I KNOW SHE MENTIONED ABOUT, UM, EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY, BUT AS WELL AS CONNECTING PEOPLE TO TRAINING AND RESOURCES IN DALLAS COUNTY.

AND, UM, WE ARE GONNA GO OVER SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT YOU SENT TO US TO GIVE YOU MORE INFORMATION.

IN THIS PROGRAM, WHAT THEY DO IS BASICALLY PROVIDE SUPPORT IF THE PERSON WANTS TO GET A CAREER.

OKAY.

THEY PROVIDE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR PEOPLE THAT WANTS TO GET THEIR SKILLS, YOU KNOW, IN DIFFERENT AREAS AND WANT TO HAVE A FINANCIAL FUTURE STABILITY BETTER THAN THE ONE THAT THEY HAVE.

AT THAT POINT.

THEY PROVIDE FINANCIAL, UM, SUPPORT, WHICH BASICALLY THEY PAY FOR TUITION.

IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM.

THEY PAY FOR TUITION, THEY PAY FOR BOOKS, THEY PAY FOR TRANSPORTATION, AND ALSO GIVE CARDS FOR THOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE ON THEIR TRAINING OKAY.

INCLUDING SENIORS.

AND I'M GONNA TALK LATER ABOUT THAT.

UM, APPLICATION ASSISTANT IS A PROGRAM THAT IS UNDER THE CMS IS A NEW PROGRAM THAT WE START LIKE A YEAR AND A HALF AGO.

AND THE PROGRAM, WHAT IS DOES IS CONNECTING KIDS TO COVERAGE.

WE PROVIDE MEDICAID ASSISTANCE OKAY.

FOR FAMILIES THAT WANTS TO HAVE, UM, THEIR CHILDREN OVER 18 WITH THEIR MEDICAID COVERAGE.

AND WE ALSO PROVIDE THE MEDICAID COVERAGE FOR THE PREGNANT INDIVIDUALS IN DALLAS COUNTY WITH THIS PROGRAM.

WE COVER ALSO TARRANT COUNTY.

SO WE DO TWO, TWO COUNTIES AT THE TIME WITH THIS PROGRAM.

WE HAVE FIVE APPLICATION ASSISTANCE THAT THEY ARE ALL OVER DALLAS CENTER, TARRAN COUNTY PREGNANCY CLINICS WITH CLINICS COMPLETING APPLICATION FOR THESE FAMILIES.

THEY ALSO SUPPORT THE FAMILIES IN COMPLETING APPLICATION ALSO FOR ANY OF THE PUBLIC BENEFITS THAT, THAT THEY MAY NEED, LIKE FULL STEM AND ALL THE MEDICARE BENEFITS.

NEXT SLIDE.

THE MISSION FOR THE DALLAS AREA AGENCY ON AGE IS BASICALLY TO INCREASE INDEPENDENCE AND AN OVERALL HEALTH TO DALLAS COUNTY.

WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF LIKE REQUIREMENTS.

THAT'S WHY WE HAVE SO MANY TRANSFORMING DOORS.

WE SERVE A LOT OF CLIENTS.

SO, UM, LIKE LAST YEAR I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE SERVE OVERALL IN DIRECT SERVICES MORE THAN 3000 CLIENT.

AND THAT'S JUST THE DIRECT SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE.

AND WE ARE GONNA GO OVER THOSE SERVICES IN A LITTLE BIT.

UH, WE PROVIDE, UM, A COMPREHENSIVE SUPPORT SERVICES, BUT AT THE SAME TIME, UM, WE CONNECT OUR SENIORS TO ALL THE RESOURCES BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT WE LACK OF SOME SERVICES AND SENIORS HAVE 11 NEEDS.

SO WHAT WE DO BASICALLY IS THAT WE KEEP OURSELF ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY AND COLLABORATION, LIKE SUSAN MENTIONED, WE COLLABORATE WITH A LOT OF AGENCIES THAT SUPPORT IN ALL THE AREAS SO THAT WAY WE CAN CONNECT THOSE OTHER ADDITIONAL NEEDS FOR THOSE RESOURCES DIRECTLY DOWN CONNECTING IN DALLAS COUNTY.

NEXT, OUR SERVICES, UM, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS KNOW, BUT OUR SERVICES ARE BASICALLY, UM, MANDATED AND SUPPORTED BY THE OLDER AMERICAN ACT.

THE OLDER AMERICAN ACT IS AN ACT THAT WAS A FEDERAL INITIATIVE IN 1965.

AND THIS ACT BECAME AFFECTED IN 19, IN JULY, 1965 AND WAS IMPLEMENTED TO SUPPORT THE SENIORS WITH ALL THESE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES.

NEXT, THE OA REAUTHORIZED ITSELF IN 1973 AND THEN CREATED AREA A CA.

OKAY.

WE ARE 2080 ACROSS TEXAS.

OKAY.

DALLAS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST ONE.

WE HAVE THREE TOP THREE PAYS THAT ARE BIG AND DALLAS IS ONE OF THEM.

SO WE RECEIVE A LOT OF FUNDINGS BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, OUR POPULATION THAT WE SERVING, YOU KNOW, IS INCREASING AND WE NEED ADDITIONAL SUPPORT PROGRAMS THAT ARE COMING TOGETHER.

AND THAT'S WHY I'M GONNA TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE LATER ABOUT THE AREA PLAN AND HOW WE PUT IN THOSE SPACES, THE SERVICES IN PLACE NEXT, THE DALLAS AVIATION AGING, LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE, THE ONLY REQUIREMENT IS YOU 60 OVER AND YOU LIVE IN DALLAS COUNTY AND YOU QUALIFY FOR THE SERVICES AND HAVE A MEETING.

OKAY.

THAT'S ALL YOU NEED.

A LOT OF ALL THE PROGRAMS THAT WE ARE WORKING ON, THEY DO HAVE LIKE A STATE OR FEDERAL PROGRAMS. THEY DO HAVE INCOME ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS AND ACCESS REQUIREMENT.

THAT'S WHY YOU SEE MORE SENIORS THAT ARE BENEFIT FROM OUR SERVICES BECAUSE THERE'S NOT A LOT OF LIKE MAJOR REQUIREMENTS.

UM, WHEN IT COMES TO INCOME ACCESS AND ASSISTANCE SERVICES, ONE OF THE BIGGEST PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE, AND THESE ARE THE DIRECT SUPPORT SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE TO SENIORS.

WE HAVE CARE COORDINATION.

OUR CARE COORDINATION CLIENTS BASICALLY SUPPORT

[00:45:01]

THOSE SENIORS THAT ARE LIVING BY THEMSELVES.

SO IF, IF I'M 80 YEARS OLD, I DON'T HAVE FAMILIES IN DALLAS AND I'M BEING BY MYSELF, THEN YOU WILL BE RECEIVING SERVICES ON THAT PROGRAM.

OKAY.

CAREGIVER SUPPORT IS BASICALLY A PROGRAM DECIDE TO SUPPORT CAREGIVERS.

YOU KNOW, CAREGIVER, UM, IS IS A PERSON THAT CAN BE A DAUGHTER AND I CAN BE 18 YEARS OLD OR 20 YEARS OLD TAKING CARE OF MY MOM.

SO THIS PROGRAM SUPPORT THAT CAREGIVER WITH THE OTHER ADDITIONAL SUPPORT SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE UNDER THE PROGRAM.

WE HAVE BENEFIT COUNSELING, BENEFIT COUNSELING SUPPORT THE POPULATION IN DALLAS WHEN IT COMES TO MEDICAID, MEDICARE COUNSELING, UH, OLDER SUPPORT WHEN IT COMES TO PUBLIC BENEFITS.

THEY ALSO PROVIDE TRAINING AND SUPPORT TO THE COMMUNITY WHEN IT COMES TO EDUCATE THE COMMITTEE ABOUT WHAT MEDICARE HAS, WHAT MEDICAID'S COMING, WHEN THE CHANGES ARE HAPPENING, WHAT IS INCLUDING THOSE CHANGES.

SO THEY DO A LOT OF LIKE TRAINING IN REGARDS ON AN EDUCATED COMMUNITY, REGARDLESS THOSE MAIN TOPICS FOR MEDICARE AND MEDICAID COMMUNITY WELLNESS.

JESSICA IS GONNA COVER, UM, A LITTLE BIT LATER ABOUT THAT.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

CARE COORDINATION AND CARE SUPPORT SERVICES.

THE SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE ARE SIMILAR IN BOTH PROGRAMS. AND I'M GONNA TELL YOU WHICH ONES ARE COVERING CARE COORDINATION, WHICH ONES ARE MORE FOR THE CAREGIVER POPULATION.

SO WE DO RESIDENTIAL REPAIR, MINE HOME REPAIR.

PEOPLE THINK THAT, YEAH.

OH, YOU DO RESIDENTIAL.

WE KNOW THAT HOUSES IN TEXAS AND THAT THE AREA THAT WE COVER HOUSES FOR BILL 1950 AND 60 AND THEY NEED A LOT OF REPAIRS.

SO IT'S HARD FOR US TO DO HOME REPAIR IN A HOME THAT THE STRUCTURE IS NOT SOLID ENOUGH, YOU KNOW, SO WE ARE TRYING AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO PARTNER WITH OTHER AGENCY TO, TO HELP WHEN IT COMES TO MILLION REPAIRS OF THE KIND THAT THE DROPS.

SO IN THAT PROGRAM WE ARE FOCUSING MORE ON THE SAFETY OF THE CLIENT.

SO WE DO GRAB BARS, WE DO HANG RAILS, WE DO RAMPS, WE BUILD RAMPS OUTSIDE THE HOUSE.

IF THE CLIENT IS LIVING IN A NEIGHBORHOOD THAT IS NOT THAT GOOD AND THEN SHE DON'T FEEL SAFE, SHE WANTS TO INSTALL A DOOR, FRONT DOOR AND THE BACK DOOR.

WE DO ALSO THAT WE INSTALL THE DOORS.

UM, IF THEY HAVE THE WINDOWS ARE NOT GOOD, WE DO THOSE MINOR HOME REPAIR TO REPAIR DURING THE WINTER.

WE DO A LOT OF AC REPAIR AND AND HEATERS BECAUSE OF THE WEATHER.

AND NOW WE ARE DEALING WITH THE AC BECAUSE OF THE HEATING THAT IS COMING CLOSE TO US.

THAT IS VERY, YOU KNOW, OVER HERE IN, SO THE SUMMER IS VERY HOT.

SO WE ARE WORKING IN THE AREA TOO.

UM, HEALTH MAINTENANCE SUPPLIES, WE HELP THE CLIENT.

WE SUPPORT THE CLIENTS WITH UM, UM, DIAPERS, PULL-UPS, NUTRITIONAL DRINKS, ANY PERSONAL ITEMS, SOME ITEMS THAT, UM, THEY NEED MEDICAL EQUIPMENT THAT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE SOCIAL SECURITY MEDICARE PLAN.

WE PROVIDE THOSE FOR THEM.

THEY NEED A WALKER OR THEY NEED ANY OTHER EQUIPMENT.

WE TRYING TO WORK AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO PROVIDE US EQUIPMENT FOR THEM.

UM, WE DO LEGAL ASSISTANCE.

OUR LEGAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM, I MEAN HAS A LOT OF DEMANDS.

WE PREPARE WILLS AND WE DO POWER OF ATTORNEY AND CONSUMERS AFFAIR.

THE S AFFAIR, THE TIME HAS AN ISSUE THAT BASICALLY COMES WITH A CREDIT CARD THAT THEY HAVE, YOU KNOW, AND THEY CAN'T SOLVE, YOU KNOW, UM, THE CONCERN OF THE ISSUE.

THEN ONE OF OUR LAWYERS WE HAVE WITH TWO LAWYERS AND ONE OF THE LAWYERS CAN TAKE CARE OF THAT, UM, CONSUMER AFFAIR ISSUE AND WORK DIRECTLY WITH THEM AND WE RESOLVE THE ISSUE.

SO WHAT WE ALSO DO, WE HAVE A LOT OF DEMAND.

ALSO THE WILLS BECAUSE WE HAVE WILLS CLINIC ALSO THAT THE CLIENT IS, UM, REQUESTING THE SERVICES WILL DO ANY ILLNESS IF THEY FEEL LIKE THEY NEED TO DO A WILL BECAUSE THEY CLOSE, YOU KNOW, TO THE END OR IF THEY WANT, THEY HAVE A LOT OF PROPERTY AND THEY WANNA MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING YOU KNOW, IS IN PLACE AS THE TIME THAT THEY LEAVE.

UM, WE ALSO SUPPORT THEM IN THAT UM, AREA.

UM, TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, WE DO TRANSPORTATION.

WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF FUNDING AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE GONNA DISCUSS WITH YOU LATER.

UM, WHEN YOU MENTIONED SOME OF THE QUESTIONS ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT CRITICAL ISSUES WE NEED MORE SUPPORT, UM, THE DOLLARS THAT WE PUT IN TRANSPORTATION ON SMALL DOLLARS.

OKAY.

UM, SO WE DO TRANSPORTATION, BUT IT'S LIMITED.

WE CAN'T PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR CLIENTS FOR THE WHOLE YEAR.

OKAY.

BUT WE DO TRANSPORTATION FOR MEDICAL REASONS.

THAT'S, THAT'S OUR PRIORITY.

SO THE CLIENT NEEDS TO GO TO THE DOCTOR.

UM, ON THE MONTHLY BASIS WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR THE CLIENT.

IF THE CLIENT NEEDS IS IN DIALYSIS.

WE ALSO PROVIDE THE TRANSPORTATION TO GO EVERY WEEK TO THE DIALYSIS TREATMENT

[00:50:01]

OR THE CAN, UH, THAT HAVE CANCEL, CANCEL A CLIENT THAT NEEDS TRANSPORTATION TO GO TO UM, GET THE CHEMO AND THE TREATMENT.

WE ALSO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION FOR THEM.

SO TRANSPORTATION, UM, IS A DEMAND SERVICES FOR US.

AND BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF FUNDING, YOU KNOW, USUALLY WE HAVE TO TELL THE CLIENT, OH, LET ME COORDINATE THE SERVICES TO, FOR YOU TO GET EXTENDED TRANSPORTATION SUPPORT SERVICES BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE A LOT OF FUNDING.

SHORE SERVICES IS A SERVICE THAT WE'VE BEEN WORKING SINCE, I MEAN SINCE A LONG TIME.

BUT ALSO WE'VE BEEN SEEING A LOT OF DEMAND.

WE DO, UM, WE CLEAN OUT THE YARD, YOU KNOW, WE TRIM THE BUSHES.

UM, BUT LATELY WE'VE BEEN SEEING A LOT OF CLIENTS COME IN BECAUSE THEY HAVE THOSE BIG THREE, YOU KNOW, THAT NEEDS TO BE EVEN COUGH AND THEY'RE ALSO EXPENSIVE AND ALL TRIM.

SO WE DO THAT TOO.

ALSO UNDER THE SHORE SERVICES PERSONAL ASSISTANT IS UM, UH, UH, IT IS BASICALLY SERVICES THAT SUPPORT CARE COORDINATION.

SO WE HAVE, WE CONTRACT WITH EIGHT DIFFERENT HOME HEALTHCARE, UM, AGENCY.

SO IF YOU ARE PLANNING BY YOURSELF, AND I GONNA GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE, I MEAN, AND YOU ARE I MIDDLE SOMEONE THAT COME TO THE HOUSE AND PROVIDING SUPPORT THAT LIVE DOING THE LIVE CHORES OR PREPARE LIKE NEW.

THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO HELP ON THAT.

THE CLIENT HAS A CHOICE.

THE CLIENT CAN BRING THEIR OWN PROVIDER.

SO IF THE CLIENT KNOWS SOMEBODY FROM CHURCH AND THEY SAY, OKAY, YEAH, I HAVE SOMEBODY THAT CAN DO THE JOB.

YEAH, THAT'S A PRIVATE PROVIDER OR WE CAN PAY THAT PROVIDER.

THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE.

THE SECOND CHOICE THAT THEY HAVE IS JUST GOING BY ONE OF THE PROVIDER THAT WE HAVE.

AND THAT PROVIDER WOULD BE BASICALLY GOING THERE EVERY DAY TO PROVIDE THE SERVICE.

SO IT IS A FLEXIBILITY IN THIS PROGRAM.

UM, THE OTHER PROGRAM THAT WE HAVE IS THE CAREGIVER RECIPE PROGRAM.

WE WENT YEAH, THANK YOU.

RESCUE CARE PROGRAM AND THE RESPIR CARE IS HELPING THIS PROGRAM IS HELPING A LOT OF CAREGIVERS.

OKAY.

SO IF YOU ARE A CAREGIVER AND YOU NEED A BREAK, EVERYBODY KNOWS THAT BEING A CAREGIVER IS NOT EASY.

YOU KNOW, IT IS A LOT OF STRESS.

IT IS STRESSFUL.

IS IS IS VERY, UH, THE CAREGIVER BURN THEMSELVES, YOU KNOW, WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY TAKING CARE OF MOM, DAD, OR ANY OTHER OLDER ADULT.

THIS PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO BE A, A RELIEF OF THEIR RESPONSIBILITY.

WE HAVE, I CAN TELL YOU WE HAVE A LONG TIME AGO A CLIENT THAT HE WAS TAKING CARE OF THE WIFE AND HE WAS REALLY STRESSFUL.

HE SAID, WELL, I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE A WEEK TO GO AND, AND GO FISHING.

YOU KNOW, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT HE LOVE.

SO WE PROVIDE SOMEBODY TO BE WITH THE WIFE SO HE CAN GO AND RELEASE HIMSELF, YOU KNOW, FROM THOSE RESPONSIBILITY AND HAVE THAT BREAK.

SO THIS IS A GREAT PROGRAM DESIGNED TO SUPPORT THE CAREGIVER POPULATION.

HOME DELIVERY MEALS IS A PROGRAM THAT, UM, IS DESIGNED TO HELP, UM, HOME BOUND, UM, SENIORS ARE LIVING IN THE HOUSE THAT THEY CAN COOK THEIR OWN MEALS.

OKAY.

THE PROGRAM, UM, THE CRITERIA AND THE DETERMINATION FOR THE PROGRAM, THE TRIPLE IS DOING IT NOW.

BEFORE IT WAS BAI KNOW IF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH BABA IS STILL OUR PROVIDER.

THEY PROVIDE THE MEALS, BUT WE ARE DETERMINING THE ELIGIBILITY FOR THE CLIENTS.

SO THE CLIENTS ARE TRYING DIRECTLY WITH US, WHICH IS AN EASY BOAT, EASY WAY TO GO BECAUSE AS SOON AS WE GET THAT CLIENT IT HIGH PRIORITY, WE DO THAT ASSESSMENT AND THEN CONNECTING, YOU KNOW, UM, WITH PNA TO DELIVER THE EMAILS.

SO THE PROGRAM, SINCE WE HAVEN'T SINCE OCTOBER, UM, HAS BEEN WORKING BEAUTIFUL WITH US.

SO THAT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT IS, UM, PROVIDING A LOT OF SUPPORT ALSO TO SENIORS.

RIGHT NOW WE HAVE CLOSE TO 800 OF CLIENTS THAT ARE HOME BOUND THAT ARE RECEIVING HOME DELIVERY MEALS.

THE BEAUTY OF THIS ABOUT THIS PROGRAM IS THAT WE ALWAYS GET ADDITIONAL DOLLARS FOR MEALS.

SO, YOU KNOW, IF WE GET ADDITIONAL DOLLARS, WE PROVIDE NOT JUST ONE MEAL A DAY, WE PROVIDE TWO MEALS PER DAY, WHICH IS GREAT.

AND WE ALSO HAVE THE FLEXIBILITY TO PROVIDE MEALS ON THE WEEKENDS.

SO THAT GIVE YOU MORE SUPPORT TO OUR CLIENTS.

NEXT SLIDE PLEASE.

JUST GO ON THAT ONE.

DID YOU SAY THE DALLAS AREA AGENCY DOES THIS OR THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL? ARE THERE TWO DIFFERENT NO, NO, NO COMMUNITY.

THIS, THESE ARE PROGRAMS UNDER THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL AND UNDER THAT COUNCIL IS THE THE DALLAS AREA? YES.

OKAY.

AND, AND ON THE MEALS, ONE MORE, YOU PARTNER WITH VNA, SO YOU ARE A REFERRAL AGENCY IN TERMS OF THE MEALS? YES, WE REFER THEM, YEAH.

WE COMPLETE ASSESSMENT.

UM, AND THEN ONCE WE HAVE IT, WE UH, PROVIDE LIKE A SERVICE AUTHORIZATION FOR THEM TO PROVIDE THE MEALS.

SO IT IS A PROCESS, BUT WE PASS OUR DOLLARS THROUGH BNA FOR THEM TO PROVIDE THE MEALS.

SO THE MONEY COMES TO TRIPLE A AND WE PASS THAT OUT TO

[00:55:02]

THE CONTRACT.

THAT'S GOOD.

OKAY.

AND IS THERE A WAITING LIST OR YOU, IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE YES.

YEAH, IT IS A WAITING LIST BECAUSE I MEAN, WE START TAKING OVER PARTICIPANT ASSESSMENT BACK IN OCTOBER.

SO IT STILL, THERE'S A WAITING LIST THAT BNA HAS.

BUT WE ARE TAKING FIRST WE, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WE DO, THE PROBLEM WITH THIS SERVICES THAT YOU HAVE TO RENEW CLIENTS IN ORDER TO KEEP RECEIVING THE MEALS.

SO EVERY MONTH YOU HAVE CLIENTS THAT ARE THE, THE, THE YEAR IS ENDING AND YOU HAVE TO DO A REASSESSMENT, BUT ALSO YOU HAVE THOSE CLIENTS THAT ARE COMING NEAR.

SO WHAT WE NEED TO EXPEDITE THAT WAITING LIST, WE CREATE A MAIN LINE.

THE HAS A MAIN LINE.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH 2 1 1 TO APPLY.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE FRONT DESK, YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO ONLINE.

WE HAVE A NUMBER AND YOU ALL THE NUMBER.

AND THAT EXPEDITE THE PEOPLE THAT ARE NEW COMING TO THE PROGRAM EVERY WEEK WE RECEIVE FROM VNA THOSE PEOPLE THAT ARE ON THE WAITING LIST.

SO WHAT WE DO, ONCE WE RECEIVE IT, WE PRIORITIZE, SO WE PRIORITIZE THE ASSESSMENT, THE REASSESSMENT, BUT WE PRIORITIZE ALSO THE NEW PEOPLE.

SO WE WORKING IN BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

AND, AND THERE IS ALSO, WE ALSO PROVIDE CONGREGATE MEALS SITES.

RIGHT.

WE PROVIDE THE FUNDING FOR THOSE AS WELL.

RIGHT.

BUT, BUT I, I MEAN I HAVE PERSONAL, A LOT OF PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH MEALS ON WHEELS.

MM-HMM.

AND, AND THE WAITING LIST.

MM-HMM.

.

SO ARE THEY WAITING FOR THEIR ASSESSMENT AND THEN WAITING FOR MEALS OR ARE THEY JUST WAITING FOR THEIR ASSESSMENT? THEIR REASSESSMENT? NO, THEY'RE, NO, THEY, THEY KEEP RECEIVING THE MEALS.

OKAY.

WE JUST HAVE TO PROVIDE THIS ASSESSMENT AGAIN TO BE IN COMPLIANT.

AND, AND DO YOU HAVE PEOPLE THAT ARE WAITING TO BE ASSESSED FOR, I MEAN AT ONE TIME THERE WAS A LONG WAITING LIST AND I WORKED WITH PEOPLE THAT HAD JUST COME HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL.

OH YEAH.

AND THEY NEEDED IT NOW AND THEN A MONTH OR TWO WHEN THEY GOT ON THE LIST, THEY DIDN'T NEED IT.

NO, NO.

WE ARE, WE ARE WORKING RIGHT NOW WE HAVE TWO STAFF MEMBERS THAT ARE WORKING WITH THE ASSESSMENTS.

SO WE ARE TAKING THE LIST DOWN.

YEAH.

EVERY WEEK.

SO IT IS NOT A WEEK LIKE BEFORE.

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE SAYING.

THAT BEFORE BECAUSE THE SERVICE WAS CONTRACTED WITH BNA ALSO THE ASSESSMENT, IT WOULD TAKE LONGER AND THEY HAVE A WAITING LIST.

BUT NOW WE BROUGHT IT BACK IN-HOUSE.

SO THAT SERVICE IS IN-HOUSE NOW TO IMPROVE THE SERVICE.

AT THE TIME, I THINK FUNDING WAS THE PROBLEM.

BUT YES, BOTH FUNDING IS, WE NEED TO KEEP MOVING.

I KNOW COMMISSIONER TYSON HAS A QUESTION.

I'M SORRY.

COMMISSIONER TYSON, I HAVE A QUESTION LINE HANDS UP.

YES.

GO.

I CAN'T READ ANYTHING THAT'S ON THE SCREEN THERE, SO I CAN'T EITHER.

I CAN'T TELL YOU WHAT MR. TYSON? I CAN'T SEE EITHER.

YES.

I I WAS JUST WANTED TO GET THE CLARIFICATION ON THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE RESIDENTIAL HOME REPAIRS AND, AND THE CHORE SERVICES REPAIRS.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS? IS, IS THERE AN INCOME REQ REQUIREMENT, UH, DISABILITY RE RESTRICTIONS, ET CETERA? NO.

UM, NO COMMISSIONER.

UM, THE ONLY REQUIREMENTS ARE THE PERSON HAS TO BE SIX TO ORDER AND HAVE A NEED FOR THE SERVICES AND LEAVE IN DALLAS COUNTY.

THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO REQUIREMENTS THAT WE HAVE.

OKAY.

WELL, LET'S CLARIFY WHAT IS NEED.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY NEED? THE NEED IF THE CLIENT HAS ANY NEED OF LIKE FOOT FOOD INSECURITY NEED THAT, THEY NEED, UM, HOME DELIVERY MEALS.

IF THE CLIENT NEED RESIDENTIAL REPAIR, IT HAS TO BE THE NEED AND THE CLIENT.

BUT THE ONLY TWO REQUIREMENTS TO PARTICIPATE IS OVER 60 LIVING IN DALLAS COUNTY.

THAT'S ALL.

OKAY.

ALRIGHT.

THANK YOU.

BUT, BUT THERE'S LIMITED FUNDS AVAILABLE FOR THAT IS THE LI YES.

AND WHAT KIND OF A WAITING LIST IS THERE FOR THOSE SERVICES? WE, WE DO IT RIGHT NOW.

WE BASICALLY, THE, THE WAY THAT THE STATE, OUR FUNDING IS COMING FROM FEDERAL TO STATE, SO THE MONIES COMES LOW, DOESN'T COME BACK ON TIME.

SO WE, WE HAVE A WAITING LIST IS BECAUSE WE HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE FUNDING.

OKAY.

NOW THE FUNDING IS PRE-APPROVED FOR THE WHOLE YEAR, BUT IN ORDER FOR, FOR US TO PROVIDE THE SERVICES, WE HAVE TO HAVE A NOTIFICATION AWARD LETTER THAT THIS FUNDING IS AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW TO USE IT.

HOW MANY HOME REPAIRS DO YOU MAKE PER YEAR? WE DO HAVE, WE DO HAVE A PERFORMANCE MEASURE TO MEET, AND LAST YEAR WE HELPED MORE THAN 500 CLIENTS.

OKAY.

JUST IN HOME REPAIRS? YEAH.

YEAH.

OKAY.

THOSE HOME REPAIRS, .

SORRY.

YEAH.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NO.

OKAY.

SO, UH, UM, UM, JESSICA ABOUT COMMUNITY WELLNESS, THE SERVICES THAT THEY PROVIDE, AND THEN AFTER THAT WE CAN GO OVER THE QUESTIONS.

ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS, SPECIFIC QUESTIONS ABOUT SERVICE? UH, I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS WITH PETER.

WHAT'S OUR TIMEFRAME OF THIS? WE WE'RE,

[01:00:01]

I WANT TO GET THROUGH THE WHOLE PRESENTATION NOW.

OKAY.

AND, AND I'M GONNA BE VERY, VERY BRIEF AND LEAVE TIME FOR THE Q AND A.

UM, COMMUNITY WELLNESS IS A PROGRAM THAT IS, UH, PROVIDE, IS RESEARCH BASED.

IT IS, IT PROVIDES EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMMING AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL ON A NATIONAL BASIS.

SO ALL OF OUR TECH PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND PROVEN TO WORK.

SO WHEN WE DELIVER A CLASS TO INDIVIDUALS 60 AND OLDER AND SOMETIMES YOUNGER, WE KNOW THAT THEY'RE GONNA GET THE IMPACT THAT THEY NEED.

SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I WANTED TO SAY IS THAT THE CLASSES ARE DESIGNED FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS.

OKAY.

AND I WANTED TO GIVE YOU A FEW STATS THAT WE DON'T HAVE HERE, BUT I JUST THOUGHT IT WOULD BE INTERESTING JUST TO SHARE THIS WITH YOU.

SIX IN 10 ADULTS IN THE US HAVE A CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITION.

FOUR IN 10 ADULTS IN THE US HAVE TWO OR MORE CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS.

CHRONIC HEALTH, CHRONIC DISEASES ARE THE LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH AND DISABILITY AND LEADING DRIVERS OF THE LEADING DRIVER OF THE NATION.

$3.3 TRILLION PER YEAR.

SO THAT'S WHY WE WERE AUTHORIZED BY THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT A FEW YEARS AGO TO DELIVER EVIDENCE-BASED PROGRAMS, WHICH ARE PROVIDED VIRTUALLY AND IN PERSON THROUGHOUT DALLAS COUNTY.

AND WE WENT THE VIRTUAL MODE BECAUSE OF, UM, THE PANDEMIC.

WHEN THAT OCCURRED, IT JUST GAVE US AN OPPORTUNITY FOR PEOPLE TO LOOK AT, UM, UH, DELIVERING THE PROGRAM DIFFERENTLY SO WE CAN PREVENT SOCIAL ISOLATION BY PROVIDING IT WITHIN THEIR HOMES AND THEN GETTING THEM TO COME OUT TO A CLINIC, A CLINIC LOCATION, UM, SENIOR CENTER CON MIDDLE SITES, REC CENTERS.

AND WE PROVIDE 'EM ALL OVER SOME OF THE CHRONIC HEALTH CONDITIONS.

WE CAN GO TO.

THE NEXT SLIDE ARE CHRONIC DISEASE, SELF-MANAGEMENT, DIABETES SELF MANAGEMENT, CHRONIC PAIN SELF MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.

THESE ARE FORMALLY THE STANFORD UNIVERSITY MODEL PROGRAMS THAT ARE WORLD RENOWNED.

THEY ARE, THEY ARE USED AROUND THE COUNTRY, AROUND THE WORLD ACTUALLY.

AND THEY HAVE BEEN, AGAIN, TESTED AND PROVEN TO WORK.

UM, THEY ALSO HAVE A TOOLBOX THAT WE GIVE TO CLIENTS THAT THEY CAN TAKE AND WE CAN DO A PHONE INTERVIEW WITH THEM EVERY WEEK.

EACH PROGRAM IS, IS EACH OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE PROVIDED FOR SIX SESSIONS ONCE PER WEEK, TWO AND A HALF HOURS.

SOMETIMES PEOPLE ARE A LITTLE BIT CRITICAL BECAUSE THE TWO AND A HALF HOURS SEEMS A LONG TIME, BUT THE IMPACT IS TREMENDOUS.

SO WE TRY NOT TO DEVIATE BECAUSE THEY WOULD REQUIRE STRONG FIDELITY THAT WE FOLLOW THE PLAN AS IT IS THE MATTER OF BALANCE PROGRAM.

AND I JUST HAVE TO SAY THIS, WHEN DOCE WAS STANDING THERE AND I DECIDED THAT I WOULDN'T WALK OVER THERE BECAUSE IT WOULD BE MY LUCK THAT I WOULD FALL OFF OF IT.

.

AND, AND BELIEVE IT OR NOT, EASTER SUNDAY, A PASTOR FELL OFF OF ONE OF THOSE WHITE PODIUMS. SO WE TRY TO, UM, WE DELIVER AN EIGHT WEEKS, UM, TWO HOUR FALSE PREVENTION PROGRAM FOR CONCERN ABOUT FALLS.

WE CAN'T TEACH THEM NOT TO FALL, BUT WE CAN GIVE THEM INFORMATION TO HELP THEM WITH THEIR CONCERN, THEIR FEAR OF FALLING.

'CAUSE A LOT OF TIMES PEOPLE WON'T DO THINGS LIKE THAT BECAUSE THEY HAVE THAT FEAR.

BUT WE GIVE THEM MECHANISMS THAT THEY CAN USE TO MAKE THEM HEALTHIER IN THEIR HOMES.

THE FALSE PREVENTION PROGRAM HAS BEEN VERY, VERY SUCCESSFUL.

UH, ANOTHER PROGRAM IS THE DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM.

AND I WANT TO JUST GIVE YOU A SNAPSHOT OF THE DIABETES PROGRAM.

THREE, UH, 30.3 MILLION PEOPLE, UH, HAVE DIABETES.

THAT'S ONE OUT OF EVERY FOUR.

AND THAT'S ONE OUT OF, OUT OF EVERY 10 PEOPLE HAS DIABETES, NINE OUT OF 10 DON'T EVEN KNOW THEY HAVE PRE-DIABETES THAT'S LEADING TO IT, UH, LEADING TO THAT PARTICULAR DISEASE.

SO THE DIABETES SELF-MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.

AND WE HAVE A DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM THAT IS A ONE YEAR PROGRAM AND IT IS VERY, VERY IMPACTFUL.

WE RECENTLY RECEIVED A CONTRACT WITH DALLAS COUNTY TO IMPLEMENT THAT PROGRAM, AND THAT'S BECAUSE THAT'S BEEN ONE OF THE STRONGEST PROGRAM TO HELP PEOPLE NOT GET TO THE POINT OF BECOMING DIABETIC.

WE ALSO HAVE A PEARLS PROGRAM.

THIS IS A PROGRAM TO ENCOURAGE A ACTIVE, REWARDING LIVES.

AND THAT IS A DEPRESSION MANAGEMENT PROGRAM.

AND THAT'S ALSO ONE OF OUR SOCIAL ISOLATION PREVENTION PROGRAMS THAT WE USE.

THAT IS PROVIDED ONE-ON-ONE TO INDIVIDUALS.

WHEN WE GET A CALL FROM A PERSON WHO FEEL LIKE THEY ARE SOMEWHAT

[01:05:01]

DEPRESSED, THEN WE WILL, UH, GO, WE WILL CALL THEM AND SET UP A TIME THAT WE CAN MEET WITH THEM AND WE CAN PROVIDE UP TO 10 INTERVENTIONS WITH THEM.

AND THEN WE HAVE THE STRESS BUSTING FOR CAREGIVERS PROGRAM THAT IS FOR PERSONS WHO ARE CARING FOR THEIR LOVED ONES, PERSONS WITH GOT, UH, DEMENTIA, UH, ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE OR PERSON WHO JUST HAVE BASIC, A BASIC ILLNESS.

AND THAT PROGRAM IS 10 WEEKS.

AND WE PROVIDED IN LOCATIONS THAT, THAT, UM, IS BENEFICIAL TO THEM.

IT MAY BE IN REC CENTER, IT MAY BE IN A CHURCH WHERE THERE ARE A NUMBER OF CAREGIVERS.

I'M GONNA GO TO THE LAST SLIDE.

I SAID I WOULD BE BRIEF.

I JUST WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE ALL OF US RESEARCH PROGRAM.

THAT'S ONE OF THE PROGRAMS THAT WE RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH.

AND IT IS DESIGNED TO ENROLL 1 MILLION PEOPLE INTO A RESEARCH INITIATIVE.

AND AS YOU KNOW, MANY OF US DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN RESEARCH BECAUSE WE HAVE A FEAR.

AND OUR PROGRAM HAS BEEN DESIGNED TO EDUCATE THEM TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THERE'S NO NEED TO FEAR.

THERE'S NOTHING THAT IS GOING TO BE BAD WITHIN PARTICIPATING, BUT IT'S GOING HELP RESEARCHERS UNDERSTAND WHY PEOPLE GET SICK AND WHY THEY, WHY THEY STAY WELL.

SO IT'S BEEN A VERY IMPACTFUL PROGRAM.

AND I UNDERSTAND TO DATE, WE HAVE HELPED TO ENROLL.

I BELIEVE THERE ARE WELL OVER 650,000 PEOPLE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY.

SO WE ARE WORKING, WE'VE WORKED WITH THAT PROGRAM FOR FIVE YEARS, AND WE'RE HOPING THAT WE ARE GONNA BE REFUNDED TO WORK WITH THAT PROGRAM ANOTHER FIVE YEARS BECAUSE IT IS A 10 YEAR PROJECT.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU, YOU, YOU SAY, WE DO THIS AND WE DO THIS, WE DO THIS.

HOW MANY PEOPLE DO YOU HAVE DOING THESE THINGS? OKAY.

AND, AND I'M GLAD YOU SAID THAT.

LET'S GO TO THE LAST SLIDE BECAUSE ONE OF THE QUESTIONS YOU ASKED THAT I WANTED TO RAISE IT, I WANTED TO SAY IS THAT WE CAN'T DO IT BY MY STAFF.

THERE ARE STAFF NOW FIVE OF US.

WE CAN'T DO IT.

SO WE HAVE TO DO IT WITH VOLUNTEERS.

SO WE HAVE HAD HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS WHO COME THROUGH ALL OF THE PROGRAMS THAT I'VE MENTIONED.

IT TAKES SOMETIMES UP TO FOUR DAYS TO TRAIN THEM IN ALL OF OUR CURRICULUM.

SOMETIMES IT'S TWO DAYS, SOMETIMES IT'S ONE DAY.

BUT WE GET THEM TRAINED.

IT'S NOT PEOPLE WHO ARE TEACHERS NECESSARILY.

THESE ARE LAY PROFESSIONALS, PEOPLE WHO ARE JUST LIKE ANY OF US.

WE ARE TRAINED IN THE CURRICULUM.

WE HAVE A DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS AND WE, UH, DELIVER THE PROGRAM BASED ON THAT DESIRE.

SO WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP US OUT WITH THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE.

UM, I HAVE A FLYER PASS THAT AROUND SO YOU CAN TAKE ONE.

UM, THANK YOU.

PLEASE GIVE US A CALL IF YOU KNOW OF PEOPLE WHO WANNA VOLUNTEER.

YOU HAVE A CLASS COMING UP, BUT THAT CLASS IS FULL.

BUT WE HAVE ANOTHER CLASS COMING UP IN AUGUST THAT WE WOULD LOVE TO, IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ANY INFORMATION REGARDING OUR PROGRAM, I ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO TO COMMUNITY COUNCIL.ORG AND, UH, LOOK AT OUR PROGRAMS. AND ALSO WE ARE FACEBOOK LIVE, WE ON TWITTER, WE HAVE ALL OF THOSE SPACES COVERED TO GIVE INFORMATION.

ANY QUESTIONS, JUST WANNA MAKE SURE THAT I UNDERSTAND PROPERLY.

MOST OF YOUR BUDGET COMES FROM FEDERAL FUNDS THAT ARE FUNNELED THROUGH THE STATE AND THEN TO YOU? TO US, YEAH.

AND THEN FROM YOU TO DNA OR MM-HMM.

.

SOME USING OMBUDSMAN PROGRAM.

YES.

FUNDED AS PART OF THESE.

SO THAT THAT FUNDING COMES THROUGH YOU AND THEN GOES TO THE SENIOR SOURCE.

SO THEY SAY YOU THE BIGGEST SECRET AROUND, BECAUSE WE FUNNEL SO MUCH MONEY THROUGHOUT DIFFERENT, AND, AND SOME ORGANIZATIONS REALLY ARE PROVIDING SERVICES AND SOME PEOPLE ARE ASKING THE SAME THING.

YOU KNOW WHERE THE FUNDING IS COMING FROM BECAUSE IT'S FUNDING THROUGH THE, THROUGH THE TRIPLE EIGHT.

BUT ALSO, YOU KNOW, LIKE OUR MAJOR PROGRAM I MENTIONED IS THE MA UH, NUTRITION IS THE MAJOR PROGRAM.

SO DURING COVID WE RECEIVED ALMOST $30 MILLION JUST FOR NUTRITION.

SO I MEAN, THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY COMING TO US.

AND WHAT WE DO IS SOME OF THAT MONEY IS CONTRACTOR, LIKE JESSICA MENTIONED, THROUGH BNA, BUT ALSO TO THE SENIOR CONGREGATE SITES.

WE HAVE 21 SENIOR SITES WITH DALLAS COUNTY, AND WE HAVE 13 INDEPENDENT SITES, SENIOR CENTERS THAT WE SUPPORT WITH MEALS.

SO IT IS A LOT OF FUNDING, BUT WE DO HAVE A LOT OF SUBCONTRACTORS THAT ARE BASICALLY BEHIND THE SCENE PROVIDING THE .

SO HOW DOES THAT FUNDING WORK? DOES, THERE'S A, THERE'S A FUNDING COMING FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GOES TO THE STATE OF TEXAS.

DOES THE STATE HAVE TO MATCH THAT OR PARTIALLY MATCH THAT? WE DO HAVE TO MATCH SOME OF THE DOLLARS, BUT WHEN WE CONTRACT, IT IS A SUBCONTRACTOR.

THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE MATCH

[01:10:01]

SO THEY CAN MATCH THEIR DOLLARS WITHIN ANY NON-FEDERAL DOLLARS THAT THEY RECEIVE.

FOR EXAMPLE, BEING A RECEIPT $20 TOO, SO THEY CAN MATCH THOSE DOLLARS.

IT'S VERY EASY FOR US.

WE NEVER HAVE PROBLEM WITH THEM MATCHING THE DOLLARS FOR SERVICES.

OUR SERVICE CONTRACTOR, WHICH IS OUR, THE, THE ONES THAT DO THE RESIDENTIAL REPAIR, ALL THE SERVICES, THEY BASICALLY MATCH THE DOLLARS TOO.

SO EVERYBODY THAT COME TO US, WE HAVE TO BRING THEM TO THEIR MIND.

THERE'S MONEY FOR YOU, BUT THERE'S RESPONSIBILITY ON YOUR SIDE FOR US TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE IT TO, UM, AT THIS STATE.

SO, UH, YOU MENTIONED, UH, THE MAN THAT WAS ABLE TO GO FISHING, RIGHT? YEAH.

UM, WHERE DID THE MONEY, AND YOU AND SOMEBODY PAID A CAREGIVER RIGHT, TO SPEND A WEEK IN THAT PERSON'S HOUSE.

WHERE DID THAT MONEY COME FROM THAT SPECIFICALLY THE RECIPE MONEY COME FROM A FEDERAL PILE MONEY.

UH, THAT ALSO THE DEPARTMENT OF AGENT AND DISABILITY RECEIPT.

SO IF A CLIENT BASICALLY IS PARTICIPATING IN THAT PROGRAM, THOSE DOLLARS ARE FEDERAL DOLLARS AND THERE HAS MORE REQUIREMENTS, UM, FOR THAT.

BUT WE BASICALLY PROVIDE THAT PROVIDED THE CHECK BECAUSE THIS IS A VOUCHER PROGRAM.

SO THAT PROVIDED BECOME PRIVATE PROVIDED TO US AND WE REIMBURSE THAT TO THEM.

BUT IS THROUGH THE STATE MONEY TOO? IT'S GOING FROM THE STATE THAT ANSWER YOUR QUESTION HARM, YES.

I SEE.

YEAH.

I I, I DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? IT JUST, IT'S JUST LOT.

THERE'S A LOT.

IT'S COMPLICATED.

IT'S VERY, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT SOUNDS EASY WHEN YOU SAY IT, BUT I THINK THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED PROCEDURE TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN.

OH, YES.

POLICE ALLOWED.

WE, WE IS BASICALLY, WE PROBABLY STRUCTURED ALLOW, YOU KNOW, WE OKAY WITH IT.

OKAY.

LEMME INTERRUPT.

CARMEN, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? YEAH, GO AHEAD CARMEN.

YOU I, I DIDN'T MEAN CARMEN.

I'M PORTIA.

PORTIA.

I, I MEANT, I MEANT TO SAY YOU.

HI, DORIS, IT'S PORTIA.

HI, HOW ARE YOU? I JUST WANNA SAY THIS WAS A BEAUTIFUL PRESENTATION.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

AND I, I HAVE BEEN DYING FOR YOU TO DO THIS PRESENTATION FOR THIS PARTICULAR GROUP FOR A LONG TIME, SO I'M GLAD THAT YOU DID.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

PORTIA.

PORTIA IS ALSO A MEMBER OF OUR ADVISORY BOARD.

OH, GOOD.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I HAVE ONE QUICK QUESTION.

YES.

I LIVE IN THE PORTION OF THE CITY OF DALLAS.

IT'S ACTUALLY IN COLLIN COUNTY.

DO YOU HAVE EQUIVALENT SERVICES THAT ARE OFFERED FOR RESIDENTS OF COLLIN COUNTY? YES.

YES.

WE HAVE ALSO THREE TRIPLETS ARE VERY CLOSE PARTNER WITH US.

WE HAVE TAR COUNTY TRIPLE A, WE HAVE NON NON TEXAS TRIPLE A AND EAST TEXAS.

THOSE TWO PLACE, WERE VERY CLOSE WITH US.

SO BOTH IN EACH OF THE COUNTY, YOU WILL HAVE A TRIPLETS SUPPORTING WITH THE SAME SERVICES.

BUT, UM, THE FUNDING IS VERY LIMITED TO SOME OF THEM BECAUSE BEING THAT WE ARE ONE OF THE BIGGEST ONES, WE HAVE ADDITIONAL FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE CLIENTS.

FOR EXAMPLE, THAT CAREGIVER CLIENT, THE RECIPE PROGRAM, IF YOU GO TO PRIVATE TARRAN COUNTY OR COLLIN COUNTY, THEY PROBABLY PROVIDE YOU LIKE THE OF $300 FOR THAT CLIENT.

BUT WHEN YOU COME TO US, BECAUSE WE HAVE MORE DOLLARS COMING, WE CAN HELP THE CLIENT UP TO SIX MONTHS, YOU KNOW, SO WE ARE, WE ARE VERY FLEXIBLE WHAT WE DO TO MAKE SURE THAT WE EXPAND AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, EVEN THOUGH OUR HELP IS TEMPORARY, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE WE DON'T PROVIDE LONG TERM SERVICES, WE TRY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO YOUR SERVICE TO REALLY IMPACT THE CLIENT LIVES.

SO, YEAH.

SO I JUST WANT QUESTION.

SOMEBODY HAVE COMMENT.

GO AHEAD.

SORRY.

OKAY.

SO SOME OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WE, THAT WE RECEIVE, UM, UM, FROM YOU GUYS, WE JUST WANNA LIKE, BRIEFLY SAY, YOU KNOW, THAT, UM, THESE ARE KEY QUESTIONS FOR US BECAUSE, UM, WHEN I RECEIVE THE QUESTIONS, I SAY, OH MY GOD, SOME OF THESE QUESTIONS ARE QUESTIONS THAT WE, UM, WORK TOGETHER WITH THE .

SO THE FIRST QUESTION THAT YOU HAVE IS THAT WHAT DOES PUBLIC COUNCIL AND AAA BELIEVE THERE ARE FIVE MORE CRITICAL PROBLEMS FACING THE SENIORS? AND THIS, WHAT I'M GONNA SHARE WITH YOU IS SOMETHING THAT IS A REAL, REAL RESPONSE FROM OUR CLIENTELE.

WE DISTRIBUTE MORE THAN 1200, UM, UH, THESE ASSESSMENTS TO THE COMMUNITY, TO THE SENIOR CENTERS.

AND WE GATHER THE INFORMATION AND ANALYZE THE DATA.

THE RESULT ARE THAT THE MOST CRITICAL ONES ARE SAFETY, FINANCIAL STABILITY, FOOD INSECURITY, SUPPORT

[01:15:01]

SERVICES FOR CHRONIC HEALTH ISSUES, AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

SO THOSE ARE OUR FIVE TOP PRIORITY.

AND I'M, THIS IS BASED ON THE DATA THAT WE COLLECT FROM THEM IN 2022 RECENTLY.

WOULD YOU REPEAT THOSE MORE SLOWLY? SAFETY, SAFETY, FINANCIAL STABILITY, FOOD INSECURITY, SUPPORT SERVICES FOR CHRONIC HEALTH ISSUES AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

AND HOW THINGS HAVE BEEN CHANGED SINCE COVID.

I CAN TELL YOU THAT IT HAS BEEN DRASTIC CHANGE.

YOU KNOW, WE DON'T LIKE TO TALK ABOUT IT.

WE DON'T LIKE TO TALK ABOUT, BUT WE GONNA SHARE WITH YOU THAT WE STRUGGLE A LOT BECAUSE YOU KNOW THAT BEING THAT IN SIX MONTHS YOU HAVE TO REVIEW EVERYTHING, WHAT YOU'RE DOING DIFFERENT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KEEP OPERATING, BUT AT THE SAME TIME SUPPORTING THE CLIENT.

SO IT WAS A LOT OF WORK DURING THE COFFEE, BUT ONE THING THAT WE LEARNED IS THAT RIGHT NOW WE FEEL THAT LIKE HEROES THAT WE CAN DO ANYTHING.

SO WE CAN PROVIDE THE SERVICES ANYWAY, YOU KNOW, THAT THE CLIENT WANTS.

WE BASICALLY ARE PROVIDING SERVICES RIGHT NOW, LIKE JESSICA MENTIONED, YOU KNOW, WE DO SEMINARS, CLASSES IN ZOOM, WE DO ASSESSMENT BY ZOOM, OR WE DO ASSESSMENT BY PHONE.

WE ALSO DO HOME VISIT.

IF THE CLIENTS WANT US TO GO THERE FOR RESIDENTIAL REPAIR, USUALLY WE HAVE TO DO HOME VISIT BECAUSE WE HAVE TO SEE WHAT NEEDS TO BE REPAIRED, OKAY.

TO SHARE WITH OUR CONTRACTORS.

BUT, YOU KNOW, EVERYTHING LIKE REALLY CHANGED.

BUT I THINK, I THINK IN A WAY FOR THE BETTER BECAUSE WE DISCOVER, YOU KNOW, HOW TO DELIVER SERVICES IN A DIFFERENT WAY.

AND AT THE SAME TIME, MAKING SURE THAT OUR CLIENTS WERE HEALTHY AND SAFE.

YOU KNOW, WHEN IT COMES, YOU KNOW, WITH COFFEE, YOU KNOW, THAT WE DON'T WANT ANYBODY, OUR VENDORS WHO ARE VERY CAREFUL, THEY, WE CREATE, UH, POLICY AND PROCEDURES, UM, TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY WERE SECURE.

THEY WERE GOING WITH THEIR MASKS AND EVERYTHING VERY LIKE, UM, UM, SAFE IN THE SAFETY AREA.

SO THAT WAY WE DON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS. BUT, UM, UM, I THINK THAT WE DID A GREAT JOB AND, AND AND, AND WE LEARNED A LOT OF THINGS THAT WE NEVER LIKE KNEW BEFORE HOW TO DO IT.

BUT THAT'S HOW, UM, BASICALLY WE DID BEFORE.

WE ALSO, UM, WE ALSO LEARNED THAT DURING THE COVID TIME, UM, PEOPLE WERE, UM, UH, EXPERIENCE, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT THINGS, YOU KNOW, BEFORE COVID AND THEN AFTER COVID.

SO WE WERE ABLE TO MODIFY SOME OF THE SERVICES TO PROVIDE MORE SUPPORT.

LIKE JESSICA MENTIONED, SOME OF THE, UM, DEPRESSION.

SO ISOLATION.

SO WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THOSE AREAS THAT NEED MORE SUPPORT AND START PROVIDING TO THE COMMUNITY.

SO, SO CAN I ASK A QUESTION ABOUT THAT? SO I CALL YOU AND I SAY, YOU KNOW, I'M REALLY STRUGGLING TODAY, I HAVE A PROBLEM.

UM, I CAN'T THINK STRAIGHT.

SO YOU SAY, OKAY, UH, CLEAR.

SO WHAT'S THE NEXT STEP FROM THAT, RIGHT? YEAH, I KNOW THAT.

WHAT'S, IN OTHER WORDS? SO WHAT IS THE NEXT STEP? IDENTIFY, I, I'VE CALLED YOU RIGHT? CALL US.

YEAH.

OKAY.

AND WE'LL TELL YOU ABOUT OUR PROGRAM, RIGHT.

PEARL'S PROGRAM.

WE'LL TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT, AND THEN WE'LL GIVE YOU AN OPTION WHETHER YOU WANNA PARTICIPATE, AND WE WILL TELL YOU WHAT THE ELEMENTS OF THE PROGRAM ARE, WHAT YOU WILL ACHIEVE FROM THOSE ELEMENTS.

AND AGAIN, IT'S TESTED AND PROVEN TO BE ABLE TO GIVE YOU SOME SKILLS TO BE ABLE TO COPE.

ALL RIGHT? SO IT'S NOT LIKE YOU'RE SENDING ME TO SEE A PRIVATE THERAPIST.

THAT'S WHAT I, OH, YEAH, YEAH.

ALL RIGHT.

SO YOU'RE SENDING ME, OKAY, THANK YOU.

THE PEARL, IT'S CALLED THE PEARLS PROGRAM.

THE PEARL PROGRAM.

YES.

AND THE STAFF BASICALLY ARE TRAINED FOR THIS, ALL OF THIS PROGRAM, CERTIFIED STAFF TO DO IT.

SO WE BASICALLY CANNOT PROVIDE YOU WITH A THANK YOU, YOU KNOW, WE KNOW SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

BUT WE CAN PROVIDE YOU WITH SUPPORT.

THANK YOU.

YES.

KNOW WHO SHE ASKED.

YEAH.

UH, JUST SAY, I GONNA LET NEED HOME WITH PARIS.

OKAY? MM-HMM.

.

AND THE QUALIFICATION WOULD BE 60, LIVE IN DALLAS AND HAVE A NEED.

NOW DO I GIVE HER THIS NUMBER? SHE CAN CONTACT YOU THAT NUMBER.

THE, THE, THE WHAT NUMBER DOES SHE, I THINK THAT THE LAST YEAR WE WERE LOOKING TO SEE HOW WE CAN FACILITATE FOR THAT SENIOR TO NAVIGATE THE SYSTEM.

AND IT WILL BE A FRIENDLY NEW SYSTEM THAT THEN DON'T STRUGGLE A LOT, YOU KNOW, AND I KNOW THAT YOU GO THROUGH ONE, ONE, YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH A LOT OF LINES BEFORE YOU CAN S SHARE WITH YOU BECAUSE HE IS LIKE THAT, YOU KNOW, THAT'S THE REALITY.

BUT WE CREATE A SPECIAL LINE.

SO THAT 1, 801 8 8 NUMBER THAT IS, UM, IN ONE OF THE POWERPOINT IS OUR DIRECT LINE.

MR. RIVERA IS THERE TO, YES, THAT NUMBER IS OUR DIRECT LINE.

IT'S THE TRIPLE EIGHT LINE.

YOU CAN TALK TO A PERSON.

SO

[01:20:01]

MR. MARIO, AND I'M IN THE PROCESS TO HIRE ANOTHER PERSON TO HELP HIM OUT BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF FOODS COMMON SINCE WE PUT THIS, UM, NUMBER, THE WEBSITE.

SO YOU CALL THAT NUMBER AND REALLY ONE OF THE TWO WAYS STAFF MEMBER ARE GONNA ANSWER YOUR CALL.

OKAY.

THIS IS A POWERPOINT.

DO YOU HAVE IT ON YOUR THEO? YEAH.

THE ONE 800 AA NUMBER.

IT'S ON THE POWERPOINT AND THE POWERPOINT.

THAT NUMBER IS 1 8 8, OKAY.

1 8 8 2 2 3 9 5 0 9 8.

OKAY.

OKAY, THANK YOU.

YEAH.

THE SECOND, SECOND QUESTIONS THAT WE HAVE HERE IS HOW THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL, WHICH FIND THIS PROGRAMING AND FOCUS OVER THE PAST COUPLE YEARS.

WHAT ARE OUR CURRENT PRIORITIES? AND THEN ALSO WHERE ARE YOU HAVING THE GREATEST IMPACT? SO FOR THE FIRST ONE, I CAN SEE THAT YOU ALL SINCE , LIKE I MENTIONED BEFORE, OUR PRIORITIES CHANGE.

SO WHAT WE ARE DOING BASED ON THE AREA PLAN, BECAUSE ALL HAVE TO BE ATTACHED TO THE AREA PLAN.

OKAY? OUR AREA PLAN IS OUR MANNER THAT WE HAVE TO FOLLOW ONCE WE DID IT, YOU KNOW, UM, SO BASED ON THE AREA PLAN, WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE IDENTIFY THOSE AREAS THAT NEED MORE HELP OR SUPPORT.

IN THE AREA PLAN, WE IDENTIFIED THAT THERE'S STILL A LOT OF COMMUNITY THAT ARE UNDERSERVED.

SO ONE OF THE, OUR MAIN PRIORITY IS BASICALLY IMPACT THOSE AREAS BY GOING THERE, MAKING PRESENTATION, MAKING, CONNECTING OUR STAFF THERE TO SUPPORT THE POPULATION THERE.

THE SENIOR CENTERS THAT WE HAVEN'T BEEN THERE.

ONE OF THE, UM, MAIN PRIORITIES THAT WE HAVE RIGHT NOW IS IMPACT IMPACTING THE LGBT COMMUNITIES.

YOU KNOW, ALSO IMPACTING THE, THE, THE PEOPLE THAT ARE ISOLATED, BECAUSE THERE'S SOME PEOPLE STILL THAT THEY DON'T KNOW OR WHO WE ARE OR WHAT SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE OUT THERE FOR THEM.

SO OUR MAIN PRIORITIES COMING FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS IS IN THIS AREA AS WELL.

INCREASING, YOU KNOW, OUR FUNDING IN ALL THESE PROGRAMS THAT WE ARE LIMITED FUNDING.

SO THAT'S A SECOND PRIORITY FOR US.

AND ANOTHER THING THAT WE WANTED, LIKE MENTIONED THAT IS THAT, UM, THE AREAS THAT ARE MOST IMPACTING FOR THE SENIORS ARE, UM, RESIDENTIAL, YOU KNOW, RESIDENTIAL AND NUTRITIONAL TRANSPORTATION.

THOSE ARE THE THREE MAIN TOP PRIORITY FOR US.

WHY? BECAUSE TRANSPORTATION, WE HAVE LIMITED INCOME.

SO WE WOULD LIKE TO SUPPORT EVERYBODY THAT IS COMING TO US WITH A NEED, YOU KNOW, BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY HAS TRANSPORTATION TO GO TO THE MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS AND ALL THAT.

BUT THEN IT IS, IT'S SO LIMITED THE PROJECT THAT WE HAVE THERE.

AND WE AT ONE POINT HAS A GRANT THAT SUPPORT US FOR, UH, A COUPLE YEARS, BUT WE NO LONGER HAVE THAT GRANT.

SO RIGHT NOW WE ARE LOOKING FOR MORE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THAT AREA AS WELL, FOR THE SENIORS, FOR THE, FOR THE RESIDENTIAL REPAIR.

NOW, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE ARE, WHEN WE GOING NOW AND WE ARE BASICALLY TALKING ABOUT OUR SERVICES, WE ARE ALSO AT THE SAME TIME SENDING OUR, OUR IMPACT REPORT TO ALL THESE PRIVATE GOVERNMENT AND DONATING TO OUR PROGRAMS. SO WE DO HAVE SOME OF OUR PRIVATE PEOPLE THAT SEND, UM, DOLLARS TO US TO SUPPORT.

WE HAVE, UM, MR. WILLIAM GRANTS IS A, A, A PRIVATE, UH, UM, FUNDER THAT HE'S BASICALLY, EVERY YEAR WE GET A LITTLE GIFT.

IT'S A, IT IS A CHECK, 50,000.

20,000.

BUT THAT HELPS BECAUSE WITH THOSE DOLLARS, WE CAN HAVE THREE OR FOUR CLIENTS.

SO ANYTHING THAT IS COMING TO US FOR DONATION, WE ACCEPT THEM AND THAT WILL GO DIRECTLY TO THE SERVICES.

SO, AND THAT'S WHY WE BASICALLY, UH, WE GO OUT AND CARE ABOUT SERVICES.

WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND THAT A LITTLE BIT.

SOME OF THE CLIENTS THAT WE PROVIDE SERVICES, THEY SEND A CHECK $20 AND WE GO, IS GO BACK TO THE, THE SERVICES THAT THEY RECEIVED.

SO THERE'S ALWAYS WAY TO DONATE.

UM, THE ONLY QUESTIONS THAT WE HAVE HERE IS IF YOU HAVE MORE RESOURCES, WHAT AREA DID YOU LIKE TO FOCUS AND IS EXPANDING, LIKE, AS A NUTRITION? UM, ANOTHER THINGS THAT WE SAW DURING COVID IS THAT, UM, THE CLIENT ALSO IS MALNUTRITION.

WHEN THEY SUFFER FROM THE CHRONIC DISEASE, DIABETES, AND, YOU KNOW, PATIENT HAVE BEEN GOING HIGH AND OUR CLIENT LIVES IN A VERY FIXED INCOME, SO EVERYTHING IS GOING UP, BUT THE LITTLE CHECK DOESN'T CHANGE, YOU KNOW, SO THEY NEED THOSE KIND THAT REALLY HAVE PROBABLY DISEASE, SPECIAL DIET, AND THEY DON'T HAVE PROBABLY TO BUY ANYTHING THAT THEY, SO THAT'S OUR FOCUS IS GONNA BE MORE NUTRITION, RESIDENTIAL, AND TRANSPORTATION FOR THE COMING YEAR.

WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON HOW THE BEST PRACTICES FOR SENIORS, UH, TO FACILITATE, UM, OPPORTUNITY? WE DO HAVE E ECONOMIC MOBILITY PROGRAM THAT I TELL YOU THAT I WILL CONNECT YOU NOW.

THEN,

[01:25:01]

UM, THEY PROVIDE, UM, SUPPORT NOT JUST FOR, UM, PEOPLE OVER 18, UNDER 16, UM, OR 60 YEARS OLD.

THEY PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE OLDER ADULTS TOO.

SO WHEN WE HAVE A CLIENT, WE SEND IT TO THE ACADEMIC MOBILITY PROGRAM.

AND IT DEPENDS ON WHAT THEY LOOKING AT.

BECAUSE REMEMBER, SOME SENIOR WANT TO DO A PART-TIME OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT.

THEY DON'T WANT TO LIKE REALLY GO BACK A HUNDRED PERCENT UNLESS THEY SAY, OKAY, YEAH, I, I STILL WANT TO BE ACTIVELY WORKING.

BUT THEY PROVIDE, UM, TRAININGS AND SUPPORT, JOB SECURITY SUPPORT TRAININGS FOR THOSE SENIORS THAT WANT TO PROBABLY BE WORKING IN TECHNOLOGY.

OKAY.

AND THEY WANT TO DEVELOP MORE SKILLS.

SO THEY WILL WORK WITH THAT SENIORS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY GET THAT TRAINING.

BUT AT THE SAME TIME, IF THEY NEED FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, THEY WILL PROVIDE THAT ALSO AS WELL.

WE ALSO WORK WITH THE SENIORS.

SO THE SENIORS.

AND THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT UM, I KNOW THAT PROBABLY SUSAN FORGOT TO MENTION THAT SHE ALSO WORK WITH SENIOR SOURCE, BECAUSE SENIOR ALSO HAVE A WORK PROGRAM.

AND THEY ALSO PROVIDE THOSE, UM, LIKE SMALL TRAININGS FOR SENIORS TO DEVELOP THEIR SCHOOLS IN OTHER AREA.

AND THAT WAY THEY CAN BE ABLE TO, UM, GET A JOB THAT THEY WANT.

SO THE SENIOR SOURCE ALSO PROVIDE JOB OPPORTUNITIES, EMPLOYMENT FOR SENIORS.

WE ALSO WORK WITH A RP IF THEY COME AND THEY WANT TO, UM, HAVE ANY OTHER, UM, SERVICES ADDING ON WHAT THEY NEED, WE CONNECT THEM WITH A RP.

ANY OTHER TOPICS THAT YOU THINK THAT THE SENIOR FAIR COMMISSION SHOULD BE PRIORITIZED? UM, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS HAVE IT OR HEARD, BUT HOUSING INSECURITY FOR THE LAST YEAR, WE'VE BEEN SEEING THAT A LOT OF SENIORS HAVE BEEN ON, ON BUS.

AND IT'S VERY SAD.

YOU KNOW, WE PROVIDE INCOME, WE PROVIDE THAT FINANCIAL, UM, RELIEF FOR THAT TEMPORARY ASSISTANT, BUT THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS GONNA BE ONGOING.

YOU KNOW, WE CAN IMPACT TEMPORARY, BUT WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT? YOU KNOW, SO WE'VE BEEN SEEING THAT MOST SENIORS ARE BECOMING HOMELESS AND BECAUSE THEY DON'T, THEY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH RENT HAS BEEN GOING UP, MORTGAGE ARE UP, YOU KNOW, AND SOMETIMES IT'S SAD THAT YOU SEE A SENIOR DOCTOR COMING HERE, LEAVING THEIR HOMES AND THEY'RE GONNA LOSE IT, YOU KNOW? SO THIS IS, I MEAN, WE KNOW, AND THIS IS SOMETHING THAT I KNOW THE CEO ALSO, WE ARE WORKING VERY PROACTIVELY.

WE ARE PARTICIPATING IN SOME OF THEIR COALITIONS MEETINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING.

THE COALITION MEETINGS IN DALLAS.

WE ARE PART OF THAT TO LOOK FOR RESOURCES OR AREA THAT WE CAN SUPPORT MORE.

BECAUSE LIKE I SAID, YOU KNOW, WE CAN HELP TEMPORARY BUT LONG WAGE, YOU KNOW, IT'S GONNA BE DIFFICULT FOR US.

OKAY.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

OKAY.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

GOOD, GOOD.

GEORGE, WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU TAKING THE TIME TO COME WITH ME.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.

UM, WE NOW HAVE YOU CAN HOUSING AND NEIGHBORHOOD.

THANK YOU.

HELLO.

GOOD AFTERNOON.

ARE YOU GUYS ABLE TO HEAR ME? WE CAN HEAR YOU PERFECTLY.

.

HI.

SO I'M JASMINE.

I'M WITH THE, UM, HOUSING DEPARTMENT HERE AT THE CITY.

I WANTED TO GIVE YOU GUYS A LITTLE BIT OF AN UPDATE ON OUR, UM, HOME REPAIR PROGRAMS AND THEN MOSTLY MAKE MYSELF AVAILABLE FOR QUESTIONS.

UM, I'M GONNA SHARE A COUPLE OF BULLET POINTS I'VE WRITTEN UP AND I'LL BE SENDING THIS, UH, VIA EMAIL TO THE GROUP AFTER WE GET OUT OF THE CALL TODAY.

SO YOU GUYS WILL HAVE IT.

LEMME JUST SHARE MY SCREEN.

SO I JUST WROTE EVERYTHING UP IN BULLET POINTS.

I DID NOT PREPARE A SLIDESHOW.

UM, BUT CAN YOU GUYS JUST LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE ABLE TO SEE THE SCREEN? WE CAN SEE IT.

WE CAN'T READ IT.

READ IT.

WE CAN SEE IT.

HOLD ON ONE SECOND.

LET ME TRY TO ZOOM IN.

UH, YOU KNOW WHAT I HAVE A WORD FOR? NO.

WILL YOU SEND THAT TO EVERYBODY? ASK OR I'LL SEND IT TO, OKAY, THANK YOU.

YEAH, GIMME ONE SECOND AND MAYBE I CAN OPEN IT IN WORD AND ZOOM IN A LITTLE BIT MORE.

YOU'RE SO SWEET.

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

IS THAT BETTER? NO, NO, JUST WHY DON'T YOU JUST GO THROUGH IT.

YEAH.

OKAY.

SO, UM, OUR HOME REPAIR PROGRAMS UNDERWENT SOME CHANGES HERE AT THE END OF MARCH.

SO ON MARCH 27TH, THE HOUSING DEPARTMENT BRIEFED CITY COUNCIL THAT WE WOULD BE MOVING TO ONE MAJOR HOME REPAIR PROGRAM.

SO MOVING FORWARD, WE WILL OPERATE THE HIP PROGRAM, WHICH WAS OUR BIGGEST HOME REPAIR PROGRAM,

[01:30:01]

AND IT WILL HAVE THREE BRANCHES UNDER IT, ONE FOR MAJOR SYSTEMS OR MAJOR HOME REPAIR.

SO UP TO 24,001 FOR EMERGENCY HOME REPAIR, UP TO 10,001 FOR DALLAS TOMORROW FUND, WHICH IS AN EXISTING PROGRAM, UM, WHERE WE RECEIVE APPLICANTS AS A REFERRAL THROUGH THE CODE DEPARTMENT TO CORRECT CODE VIOLATIONS.

SO THAT'S THE, THE HOME REPAIR WE'LL BE OFFERING FROM THIS POINT FORWARD.

WE STILL HAVE OUR AR, RPA HOME REPAIR PROGRAM AND OUR ARPA SEPTIC TANK PROGRAM THAT WE WILL CONTINUE THROUGH SEPTEMBER BECAUSE THE FUNDING, UM, ALLOWS US TO CONTINUE TO SIGN CONTRACTS TILL SEPTEMBER.

AND THEN THAT PROGRAM WILL START TO GO AWAY AS WE COMPLETE PROJECTS.

UM, SO RIGHT NOW WE'VE BEEN FOCUSED ON CLOSING OUT ANY OF THE OLD APPLICATIONS AND OLD FILES FOR HOME REPAIR THAT WERE APPROVED PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM CHANGING ON MARCH 27TH.

IF APPLICANTS WERE APPROVED PRIOR TO THAT DATE, THEY WILL BE SERVED IN THE OLD PROGRAM THEY APPLIED TO.

SO WE HAD, UM, HIP HOME REPAIR APPLICANTS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEARS THAT WE WERE STILL WORKING ON.

WE ALSO HAD SENIOR HOME REPAIR APPLICATIONS FROM THE FIRST ROUND OF 10 RESIDENTS THAT WERE SELECTED FOR THE, THE FIRST PROGRAM THAT WAS CREATED FOR SENIOR HOME REPAIR.

AND THEN WE HAD PEOPLE IN WEST DALLAS TARGETED REHAB IN DALLAS TOMORROW FUND, UM, THAT WE ARE STILL FINISHING FROM PREVIOUS YEARS IF THEY WERE APPROVED UP TO THAT MARCH 27TH DATE.

AND SO ANY OF THE OTHER APPLICATIONS WE HAVE ON FILE THAT WERE NOT APPROVED PRIOR TO MARCH 27TH, WE ARE KIND OF WORKING THROUGH THOSE TO MOVE THEM TO THE NEW PROGRAM.

SO THE MAJOR PROGRAM THAT I WAS JUST EXPLAINING, THE MAJOR SYSTEMS PROGRAM.

SO WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS WE'LL GO BACK, REACH OUT TO THE APPLICANTS, LET THEM KNOW THAT OUR PROGRAMS WENT DOWN TO ONE MAJOR HOME REPAIR PROGRAM AND EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES, SEE IF THEY'RE STILL INTERESTED, AND REFRESH THEIR APPLICATION OR MAKE IT CURRENT TO BE ABLE TO SERVE THEM IN THE NEW MAJOR SYSTEMS HOME REPAIR PROGRAM.

UM, AND THEN AS WE DO THIS, THE OLD PROGRAMS WILL KIND OF SLOWLY GO AWAY.

WE'LL FINISH UP THE PEOPLE THAT WE HAD APPROVED PRIOR TO MARCH 27TH, BUT THERE'LL JUST BE ONE CENTRAL, UM, PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO APPLY MOVING FORWARD.

ONE APPLICATION, ONE PROGRAM, AND WE WILL DO THE WORK BEHIND THE SCENES TO, UM, YOU KNOW, MAKE SURE THEY QUALIFY DEPENDING ON WHAT FUNDING WE HAVE AVAILABLE.

SO THAT'S THE MAJOR UPDATE.

WE WILL BE LAUNCHING THE EMERGENCY HOME REPAIR PROGRAM IN THE NEXT MONTH OR SO.

SO MAYBE IN TIME FOR THE NEXT UPDATE, UM, WE WILL HAVE MORE DETAILS OF LIKE HOW WE'LL OPEN, HOW WE'LL RECEIVE APPLICATIONS.

UM, BUT RIGHT NOW NO OTHER APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN OUTSIDE OF THE AR RPA PROGRAM.

SO WE ARE, WE ARE SPENDING MOST OF OUR TIME NOW AND INTO THE FUTURE SERVING PEOPLE WHO'VE BEEN APPLIED AND UNSERVED IN THE PAST YEAR OR TWO AND JUST WAITING.

UM, AND, AND WE'LL BE SERVING THEM IN THE NEW PROGRAM THAT WE HAVE OPEN, OPEN.

SO THAT'S PRETTY MUCH THE UPDATE.

I, UM, LIKE I SAID, WANNA BE AVAILABLE FOR QUESTIONS, FOR ANY QUESTIONS YOU GUYS HAVE ABOUT HOME REPAIR OR, UM, ANYTHING I CAN CLARIFY ABOUT HOW OPERATIONS WILL MOVE FORWARD FROM HERE.

ONE QUICK QUESTION, JASMINE, WHEN THE ARPA FUNDS GO AWAY, WHAT DOES THE IMPACT ON THE TOTAL BUDGET, YOUR TOTAL BUDGET FOR HOUSING GOING TO BE AND, AND IS, WHAT'S THE PLAN FOR REPLACING THAT? YEAH, SO WE ORIGINALLY RECEIVED 6 MILLION FOR ARPA.

IT WAS JUST A ONE-TIME SOURCE FOR TARGETED NEIGHBORHOODS.

SO THAT WOULD GO AWAY.

UM, THE REMAINING BUDGET FOR HOME REPAIR, WELL MAJOR, MAJOR HOME REPAIR IS ABOUT THREE AND A HALF MILLION A YEAR.

AND THEN THE OTHER SOURCES THAT WE HAD ALREADY HAD PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM CHANGES WILL REMAIN IN HOUSING FOR PEOPLE TO BE SERVED IN THE NEW PROGRAM.

UM, SO THERE WAS ABOUT 2 MILLION, I BELIEVE, FOR SENIOR HOME REPAIR DALLAS TOMORROW FUND.

WE WERE WORKING THROUGH ABOUT A MILLION FOR THAT PROGRAM WITH I THINK ROUGHLY 300,000 REMAINING.

SO IT DOESN'T, UM, REMOVE ANY OF THE FUNDING THAT WE REGULARLY GET, JUST THAT 6 MILLION THAT WAS, UM, GIVEN FOR ARPA, EITHER IT WILL BE ALLOCATED OUT AND PUT INTO A CONTRACT OR IT WILL BE RE YOU KNOW, RETURNED AND, UM, REPURPOSED.

SO JASMINE, AS A FOLLOW UP TO THAT QUESTION, SO IF YOU HAD $2 MILLION THAT WAS EARMARKED FOR SENIORS, WILL THAT CONTINUE TO GO TO SENIORS OR THEY'RE JUST IN A POOL WITH THE REST OF THE UNIVERSE OF DALLAS? NO, IT WILL CONTINUE TO GO TO SENIORS.

OKAY, GREAT.

THANK YOU.

YEAH.

AND DOES THIS HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE DEVELOPER'S

[01:35:01]

OPTION OUT FUND THAT THOR DEALS WITH? THAT'S WHERE THIS MONEY COMES FROM? SOME OF IT, YEP.

TOTALLY DIFFERENT.

I'M GETTING MIXED UP.

SO THE FEE AND LIE, LIKE THE DEVELOPERS THAT OPT OUT OF BUILDING WORKS, RIGHT? THANK YOU.

IN LIEU.

YEAH.

SO SOME OF THIS IS THAT RE THAT FUNDING THAT CAME IN THAT WAS, UM, DIVVIED OUT FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES.

I BELIEVE A MILLION WAS ORIGINALLY PULLED FROM THAT FEE IN LIE POT FOR SENIOR HOME REPAIR THAT WILL CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR SENIOR HOME REPAIR.

UH, BUT THAT'S, IT'S NOT, IT'S NOT UNDER THESE THREE CATEGORIES, THESE THREE SILOS YOU TALKED ABOUT, RIGHT? YEAH.

YES.

IT'S, IT'S, IT IS.

BUT SO THE WAY THINGS WILL WORK MOVING FORWARD, THE FUNDING ITS ORIGINAL INTENT WILL STILL BE FOR THAT ORIGINAL INTENT.

SO WE HAD FUNDING FOR SENIORS, WE HAD FUNDING FOR WEST DALLAS, UM, WE HAD FUNDING FOR SPECIFIC COUNCIL DISTRICTS.

THEY WILL CONTINUE TO BE AVAILABLE FOR THAT, THAT ORIGINAL PURPOSE.

HOWEVER, EVERYBODY WOULD BE SERVED UNDER THE NEW PROGRAM.

SO EITHER HIP MAJOR SYSTEMS HOME REPAIR OR HIP EMERGENCY HOME REPAIR.

BUT THE SAME TARGET POPULATIONS WILL BE SERVED.

UM, I WOULD LIKE, NOT TODAY, 'CAUSE I KNOW WE'RE ALREADY LATE, BUT I WOULD LIKE A A, A MORE THOROUGH DISCUSSION OF THE DALLAS TOMORROW FUND.

I MEAN, NOT JUST THE FUND, BUT THE WHOLE PROGRAM, HOW IT WORKS, HOW MANY, HOW MANY SENIORS YOU'RE SERVING, HOW MANY NEED, NEED ASSISTANCE.

I'D LIKE TO HAVE A A, A MORE THOROUGH DISCUSSION.

I THINK IT'S IMPORTANT FOR US TO ALL BE AWARE OF THAT PROGRAM AND HOW IT WORKS.

SO, AND THEN, UH, AT SOME POINT I'LL BE CONTACTING YOU.

I THINK FELIC AND I AND LISA WANTS TO BE ON THE HOUSING COMMITTEE.

I THINK WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THE BUDGET.

SO WE'LL BE CONTACTING YOU TO MEET ABOUT OUR SENIOR PRIORITIES.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR WORK ON THIS.

ANY QUESTIONS? SOUNDS GOOD.

THANK YOU, JASMINE.

THANK YOU.

YOU, YOU, UH, DOING THE, UH, PROGRAM UPDATE? YES.

GOOD AFTERNOON HERE, NORMA SUPERVISOR WITH THE CU SERVICES.

I'LL KEEP THIS VERY BRIEF.

UM, SO EVERYONE HAS RECEIVED OUR MONTHLY REPORT.

UM, SO AGAIN, WE OFFER INFORMATION AS WELL AS OUTREACH EVENTS TO INFORM OUR RESIDENTS OF ALL THE SERVICES AVAILABLE.

UH, BRIEFLY LOOKING AT JUST THE NUMBERS I WANTED TO MENTION, MENTION, THE, UH, DART WRITER PROGRAM HAS BEEN INCREASING NUMBERS SO WE CAN SEE AN INCREASE IN MONTHLY TRAVELERS.

UM, OVERALL THE NUMBERS HAVE STAYED STEADY ON ALL THE OTHER PROGRAMS. AND THEN BRIEFLY ABOUT OUR PRO UH, UPCOMING EVENTS.

SO FOR THE OLDER AMERICANS MONTH EVENTS, WE WILL BE, UH, ORGANIZING DEMENTIA FRIENDLY, AGE FRIENDLY EVENT AT THE WHITE ROCK HILLS LIBRARY.

HOPEFULLY I'LL GET THE FLYERS OUT THIS WEEK AND WE'LL DEFINITELY SHARE THEM WITH EVERYONE.

WE ALSO HAVE THE PROMOTING POSITIVE MENTAL HEALTH AS WE AGE.

UH, EVENT COMING UP ON THE 22ND OF MAY WILL BE JOHNSON.

AND FOR THAT, I FINALLY GOT THE FLYERS, SO WE HAVE THEM AT THE FRONT AND WE'LL ALSO SHARE THEM VIA EMAIL WITH EVERYONE.

UH, WE'LL DO THE BLOCK PARTY WITH, UM, WEST DALLAS MULTIPURPOSE CENTER ON THE 25TH.

AND THEN WE HAVE ONE MORE ON THE 30TH THAT'S STILL KIND OF IN THE WORKS BE A MUSIC EVENT AT THE END OF THE MONTH.

SO THOSE WILL BE, UM, EVENTS THAT WE WILL BE, WE'LL BE HOSTING WITH OUR PARTNERS.

UH, AND OF COURSE AS VICE CHAIR ELISE AND THERE KIND ALREADY MENTIONED, WE'LL START THE LISTENING SESSION.

SO ON THE 27TH, WE'LL, WE'LL DO THE FIRST DISTRICT AND I WILL BE SHARING THE FLYER SOON WITH EVERYBODY.

WE HAVE THE ENGLISH VERSION OUT, SO THAT IS ALSO AT, AT THE DESK, BUT WILL BE SENT TO YOU VIA EMAIL AS WELL.

THANK YOU.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

THANK YOU.

UH, QUICKLY, I KNOW THAT KAREN HAD SOMETHING THAT SHE WANTED TO BRING UP FROM HER DISTRICT.

OH, YES, YES.

UM, MY, MY, UH, THE PARK BOARD, UH, REPRESENTATIVE FOR DISTRICT 14 IS QUITE A CHARACTER, AND HE INSISTED HE AND I GO SEE THE SINGING HILLS REC CENTER AND SENIOR CENTER.

OH MY GOSH.

IF, IF YOU'VE NEVER BEEN THERE, IT LIFTS YOUR SPIRITS.

IT WAS WONDERFUL.

THE, THE FIRST OF ALL, JUST IT'S SET IN ALL THESE

[01:40:01]

BEAUTIFUL CEDAR TREES, THIS BEAUTIFUL, AND THE ARCHITECTURE IS AMAZING.

AND THE STAFF WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

UM, THE DIRECTOR FOR THE SENIOR CENTER, WHICH WE WERE THERE ON A FRIDAY, AND SHE SAID IT WAS REALLY A SLOW DAY.

UM, BUT SHE WAS NOT AT HER DESK WHEN WE OR THE FRONT WHEN WE CAME IN.

AND WE DID THIS TOUR AND WE CAME BACK AND SHE WAS THERE AND SHE INTRODUCED HERSELF.

AND, AND, AND I SAID TO HER, I SAID, SO, SO WHAT IS YOUR JOB? AND SHE SAID, I DON'T HAVE A JOB.

I, I WAS SO AMAZED WITH EVERYBODY, AND I THINK IT'S SUCH A BLESSING TO THAT COMMUNITY AND, YOU KNOW, SPEAKS WELL OF THE CITY.

WE ARE HOPING TO GET A NEW SENIOR, I MEAN A NEW RECREATION CENTER AT AL PARK, WHICH IS THE ONLY REC CENTER IN DISTRICT 14.

SO ANYWAY, TO, I, I KNOW MS. AUSTIN IS AN EAR COMMISSIONER.

AUSTIN, I DON'T SEE HER, BUT I'M REALLY THRILLED THAT THE CITY HAS THAT.

IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

IS THAT HER DISTRICT IT'S DISTRICT DATES.

I SENT HER, I HAVE SOME PICTURES I SENT HER.

JAN, MR. KLEIN, I, ME SEND, UM, DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING FROM THEIR DISTRICT THAT THEY'D LIKE TO BRING UP IN THE LAST FEW MINUTES HERE? WELL, I'M JUST GONNA SAY MY DISTRICT HAD THE ECCLES AND I REALLY ENJOYED THAT.

IT KEEPS GOING MONDAY BACK LAST WEEK AGO, BUT THAT WAS VERY, VERY NICE OF, UM, I MISSED THAT.

CAN YOU RESCHEDULE ON I GIVE WITH DEPUTY AM MAYOR AND .

DO WE HAVE ANOTHER ONE REAL SOON? KEITH PARTY? WE WAS AT KEITH PARTY.

UH, I I DID NOT START, I MET TO, UH, INTRODUCE OUR NEWEST, UH, COMMISSIONER, UH, ROB FRIEDMAN HERE FOR HIS FIRST MEETING.

COULD YOU, UH, TWO MINUTES OR LESS TELL A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HOW YOU GOT HERE AND, AND WHAT YOUR BACKGROUND IS? ABSOLUTELY.

WELL THANK YOU.

AND I'VE ENJOYED MY FIRST MEETING WITH THE, WITH THE COMMISSION.

UM, AND MY NAME IS ROB FRIEDMAN.

I'VE LIVED IN DALLAS FOR 34 YEARS AND, UH, HAD A CAREER PRIMARILY IN THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY.

WORKED AT AMERICAN AIRLINES, UH, WAS UP IN WASHINGTON FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS, COMMUTING AT AMTRAK, AND THEN BACK HERE IN DALLAS FOR GREYHOUND.

SO PLANES, TRAINS, AND BUSES.

AND MY WIFE IS ACTUALLY ALSO IN THE TRANSPORTATION.

SHE, SHE'S BEEN AT SOUTHWEST OH, FOR OVER FOUR YEARS AS A FLIGHT ATTENDANT.

SO YES, SOME OF THE, SOME OF THE BIGGEST, UH, TRANSPORTATION COMPANIES IN THE METROPLEX.

WE HAVE TWO SONS, ONE LIVES IN DALLAS, AND THEN THE OTHER LIVES IN AUSTIN.

AND WE'VE BEEN ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY FOR AS LONG AS WE'VE LIVED HERE WITH THE KIDS, WITH VARIOUS NONPROFITS AND THE TREASURER FOR OUR HOA.

AND SO THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME UP, UM, IN CONVERSATION WITH COUNCILWOMAN MENDELSOHN, WHO, UH, MY WIFE SERVED ON VARIOUS PTAS FOR OVER A DECADE, I THINK.

AND IT REALLY INTERESTED ME AS I'VE READ AND LEARNED MORE ABOUT THE COMMISSION AND THE WORK, THE TREMENDOUS WORK THAT ALL HAVE DONE.

UM, AND I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO SERVING WITH YOU AS WE MOVE INTO THE FUTURE.

AND I THOUGHT TODAY WAS A, A TREMENDOUS EXAMPLE OF ALL THE EFFORTS THAT ARE UNDERWAY.

SO YOU'LL COME BACK NEXT MONTH? YES.

FORWARD WORKING WITH ALL OF YOU.

HERE WE GO.

OKAY.

IF THAT'S ALL, I THINK WE'RE ADJOURNED.

UH, I MAKE A MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT.

I GUESS.

ALWAYS GOOD FOR THAT, AREN'T YOU? SO IT, LEE MOVED.

WE'RE OKAY.

THANK, THANK YOU.

THANK YOU.
