[Senior Affairs Commission on June 17, 2024.]
GET STARTED.UM, I BELIEVE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE MISSING ARE RENEE KARP AND MARILYN DANIELS.
EVERYONE ELSE IS ACCOUNTED FOR.
IT'S GOING THROUGH THESE SPEAKER IS GOING THROUGH THAT LAPTOP.
THIS LAPTOP IS ON THIS SIDE THAT IS CATCHING ALL THAT SIDE VIRTUAL.
UM, THERE'S, THERE'S NOBODY HERE.
UM, IN TERMS OF PUBLIC SPEAKERS, IS THERE ANYONE ONLINE THAT IS SIGNED UP TO BE A PUBLIC SPEAKER? SO WE'RE DONE WITH THAT.
UM, WE'VE GOT APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES COMING UP NEXT.
UM, I CAN MOTION TO APPROVE THE LIMITS OF OUR MAIN MEETING.
I APPROVE JUDGE VERNA AND MIKE FIRST THAT, UM, DISCUSSION.
ANY, ANY COMMENTS OR CORRECTIONS TO BE MADE FOR THE LIMITS? MR. PR I WRITTEN, AND I REALLY STILL WANNA COMPLIMENT OUR WRITERS, BUT IT SAID, UH, THAT THE LAKEWOOD LIBRARY PRESENTATION OF THE SENIOR SOURCE WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED.
COME TO THE CONTRARY, IT WAS NOT WELL ATTENDED.
AND THE REASON I READ THAT UP IS I THINK THAT REINFORCES OUR NEED FOR OUR COMMUNICATION PERSON, BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS NOT
SO WOULD WE, WHAT PAGE OF THIS ARE YOU PAGE EIGHT UNDER ARE CONDITIONAL REPORTS.
ARE THERE ANY OTHER, UH, PANELIST? THERE WAS ONE.
UH, PHYLLIS ADMIT REFLECTING, YOU VOTED AGAINST THE REPORT.
I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT WAS CORRECT.
I DID COMMENT IN ON THIS, UM, THAT RENEE, I THINK IT WAS FAIRLY FUNCTION, WAS REALLY WELL ATTENDED, BUT I HAVE A, A CONCERN, HOW WOULD YOU THINK THE, THE PERSON YOU JUST SAID, HOW WOULD YOU THINK OF MEMBER JOKING MS. CHILD? THIS WAS, THIS WAS A PRESENTATION BY THE SENIOR SCORES AT THE LAKEWOOD LIBRARY.
AND I, I DON'T OH, IT WASN'T YOURS.
JUST SAY ANYBODY, I THINK PROBABLY WOULD THE FIRST TO BE ABLE TO, WELL, I THINK THAT THE NUMBER ONE, THE LIBRARY SHOULD ADVERTISED IT BETTER.
AND, UM, I THINK, I MEAN, I JUST THINK WE'VE GOTTA DO MORE ADVERTISING.
I, I'M ALWAYS, I GO TO SAMUEL BRAND QUITE A BIT, WHICH IS, UM, ACTUALLY DISTRICT TWO, BUT THE LIBRARY IN SAMUEL, OUR LAKEWOOD LIBRARY SAN DON'T SHARE INFORMATION.
UM, LAKEWOOD LIBRARY IS VERY MUCH FOR DISTRICT, MY NEIGHBORHOOD, WHICH IS IN DISTRICT TWO, BUT THEY, THEY DON'T POST THEIR ON NEXT DOOR IN DISTRICT TWO.
THERE'S JUST A LOT OF WAYS TO IMPROVE.
THERE WERE LIKE FOUR OR FIVE, THESE WERE FIVE OF US AT THE MOST, MAYBE FOUR OF US IN THAT MEETING.
AND IT WAS AN EXCELLENT PRESENTATION.
THE COMMUNICATION, AND IT WAS A VERY IMPORTANT TOPIC, I CAN TELL YOU.
I MEAN, IT WAS ABOUT LONG-TERM PLANNING FOR SENIORS.
AND, UH, I WAS STUNNED WHEN I SAW THAT IT WAS JUST ME AND, UM, ONE, ONE COUPLE, ONE FAMILY.
IT WAS A COUPLE OF MEN AND WIFE WHO, THAT SHE HAD TO BE OUR DISTRICT 14 LIBRARY BOARD PERSON.
SO I, I JUST THINK IT THE, THE NEED FOR BETTER COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION.
THE CITY HAS SO MANY SERVICES.
THE, UH, L 70 COMMON COMMENTS ABOUT THE MINUTES BEFORE WE TALK WITH US, I HAD, UM, ONE QUESTION TO ASK.
UM, OR SHOULD HAVE YOU SUBMITTED YOUR FINAL REPORT YET? I DID.
UH, WE HAVE VOTE TO APPROVE THE MINUTES WITHOUT ONE CORRECTION.
WE ALREADY HAVE MOTION BY THE WAY.
[00:05:04]
UH, UNDER, UH, MY REPORT, THE, UH, THE OPEN MEETINGS, THANK FOR THOSE ONLINE, UH, YOU ALL KNOW WHAT THE ROLES ARE, YOU HAVE TO BE VISIBLE AND WE HAVE TO BE ABLE TO HEAR YOU.THE NEXT THING I'D LIKE TO, UH, INTRODUCE OUR NEWEST MEMBER, UH, CARMEN RON, UH, TERM AND OUT AFTER THREE TERMS, I GUESS.
UH, AND HER REPLACEMENT IS DELGADO, WHO'S HERE FOR HER FIRST MEETING.
COULD YOU GIVE US A FUNDAMENTAL SKETCH ABOUT HOW YOU HAPPEN TO GET ON HERE AND, AND, UH, WHAT YOUR INTEREST AREAS, HOURS? UM, YES,
SO, UM, I'M AN ADVOCATE FOR OUR NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION, WHICH IS WEST OAKCLIFF.
I DON'T ONLY BELIEVE IN SHARING JUST THE NEWS WITH WEST OAKCLIFF AND ALL OF OAK CLIFF OR ANYONE ELSE.
WE GO TO KEITH PARK, WE GO TO WEST DALLAS PARK.
WE GET INFORMATION FROM EVERYONE.
I KNOW THAT YOU WERE SPEAKING ABOUT THE SENIOR PLAYER AT THEIR PARK.
WE HAD A GROUP GOING FROM OUR, UM, SENIOR, UM, DIVISION THERE, AND IT
AND THEY WERE ENCOURAGED TO RIDE GUARD, WHICH THEY DID.
THEY GOT THERE, HAD A WONDERFUL TIME.
THEY LEFT AS THEY WERE LEAVING TO WAIT THROUGH THE DOG RAIN, THE SKELETON WALKED UP TO, UH, ONE OF OUR ELDER, UM, MALE MEMBERS AND SAID, I WANT THAT PHONE.
AND INSTEAD OF SAYING, HERE, TAKE PHONE OUT THERE, HE SAID, NO, HE HAD ONE PHONE AND THE PERSON WITH
WELL, WE REALIZED AND DARK, THERE WAS NO TELEPHONE TO, TO CALL SOMEONE FOR HELP.
ON THE, OR AN EMERGENCY PHONE TO GET THE POLICE WHO THE POLICE WERE LIKE A COUPLE OF BLOCKS AWAY.
IT DID FINALLY APPEAR, BUT EVERYBODY WAS YELLING AND, AND EVERYTHING.
ONE PERSON RAN ONTO THE TRAIN LOOKING, THINKING THERE WAS A BUTTON, EMERGENCY BUTTON, NO EMERGENCY BUTTON.
AND WE'RE PLANNING TO GO TO THE, UH, DOC BOARD TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THIS OCCURRED AND SO FORTH.
BUT GETTING BACK TO MY INTEREST, I JUST, I'M VERY, I LOVE SHARING INFORMATION NO MATTER WHAT AGE IT IS, AND TAKING INFORMATION FROM ALL AGES.
SO WHEN, UM, COUNCILPERSON, UH, WE ASKED ME IF I'D BE INTERESTED.
AND I THOUGHT MY WAITING FOR I'M, SO, I, I DECIDED TO ACCEPT HIS CHALLENGE.
SO HOPEFULLY I CAN BE A, A HELP TO EVERYONE HERE AS WELL AS Y'ALL SHARING YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND INFORMATION WITH ME AS WELL.
AND YOU, UH, AT LEAST ONE OTHER CITY BOARD AND COMMISSIONS THAT I'VE KNOWN.
I'VE BEEN ON THE ENVIRONMENTAL, WHICH OH MY GOSH, SUCH A CHALLENGE.
IT'S LIKE I, DOWN HERE, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CHANGING THE SURFACE ON OUR, UM, STREETS.
AND, YOU KNOW, EVERY TIME WE, WE FILL WITH BLACK WORST POSSIBLE THING, PEOPLE ARE STILL COVERING THEIR HOUSES WITH BLACK TILE.
IT IS DRAWS TOO MUCH HEAT AND PEOPLE JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND.
SO THE FUTURE OF MY CHILDREN ARE NOT GOING TO BE HINDERED, WHICH I HAVE THAT, BUT MY NIECE AND NIECES, I TELL THEM ALL THE TIME, SHAME ON YOU.
IF YOU DON'T RECYCLE, SHAME ON YOU IF YOU DON'T SEE UP IN COMMUNITIES.
WELCOME, WELCOME TO THIS BODY.
AND WE LOOK FORWARD TO GETTING TO KNOW YOU BETTER.
UH, LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BOARD.
UH, NEXT ON THE AGENDA IS THE NEW BUSINESS IS, UH, A BRIEFING FROM DALLAS COUNTY OLDER ADULT SERVICES.
MARK, YOU ON SCREEN? MARK EDWARD?
[00:10:01]
YEAH, HE'S THERE.UM, THANK YOU FOR THE INVITATION.
THANK YOU FOR THE INVITATION, UM, FOR ALLOWING US TO JOIN.
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? TESTING ONE, TWO.
CAN ANYONE ELSE HEAR ME ONLINE? CAN'T HEAR YOU, MARK.
EVERYONE ONLINE CAN IS PICKING US UP.
IT MIGHT BE ON, IT MIGHT BE ON YOUR, ON YOUR END.
WELL, I JUST WANTED TO FIRST SAY THANK YOU FOR THE OPPORTUNITY.
UM, SPOKE BRIEFLY WITH, UH, AMERICA AND, UM, MACKAY.
UM, MR. CHAIRMAN, I SAW YOU AT, UH, THE, UM, D AAA COM, UH, COMMUNITY COUNCIL, UH, VNA PRESENTATION.
YOU DID A GREAT JOB PRESENTING.
SO THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR COMMUNITY CONNECTION.
UM, BUT ON BEHALF OF DALLAS COUNTY, UM, I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO JEANETTE MENZA.
SHE'LL BE LEADING, UH, THE PRES PRESENTATION ON BEHALF OF OUR OLDER ADULT SERVICES.
GOOD AFTERNOON, EVERYONE TO SEE.
SO, MR. MACKAY, WILL YOU BE SHARING THE PRESENTATION SCROLLING THROUGH? YES.
UH, I HAVE IT ON, ON THE SCREEN NOW.
JEANETTE, YOU HAVE AN ECHO? I DIDN'T MIC ON.
SO MY NAME IS JEANETTE MONSANO.
I'M THE PROGRAM ADMINISTRATOR FOR DALLAS COUNTY OLD ADULT SERVICES.
I WORK CLOSELY WITH, UH, MARK EDWARDS HERE AT DALLAS COUNTY.
UM, AND SO HE ASKED ME TO SHARE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR PROGRAM.
UM, I THINK A LOT OF YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH WHAT WE DO ALREADY.
UM, SO WE'LL JUST KIND OF DO A RECAP OF, OF WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE MOVE FORWARD FROM, UH, COVID, UM, AS THAT'S BEEN A BIG CHANGE FOR EVERYBODY.
UM, UH, SEVERAL OF, UH, OF US ARE NEW, SO LET'S NOT ASSUME THAT WE, WE ARE FAMILIAR WITH YOUR SERVICES.
JEANETTE, ALSO, WE WERE STILL PICKING UP AN ECHO.
I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE WAS THAT GOES FROM HERE.
UH, WE THINK THAT THE ECHO IS ORIGINATING FROM THE ROOM THAT WE'RE HOLDING THE MEETING AT.
AND WE, BECAUSE WE'RE IN A DIFFERENT ROOM, WE'RE NOT REALLY SURE WE CAN CONTROL IT.
WE'VE GOT PEOPLE WORKING ON IT, BUT NO SOLUTION.
NOW, SOMETIMES IT MEANS THAT, THAT JEANETTE HAS TWO SCREENS OPEN.
IT COULD MEAN THAT A PERSON HAS TWO SCREENS OPEN.
I DON'T HAVE TWO SCREENS OPEN.
IS THAT BETTER? IS THAT BEST? LET'S SEE.
CAN YOU HEAR ME BETTER NOW? YES, THAT SOUNDS GOOD.
CAN YOU HEAR ME OKAY NOW? YES.
IS IT SAFE TO PROCEED? YES, PLEASE.
SO, UM, TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT DALLAS COUNTY OLDER ADULT SERVICES, UM, YOU KNOW, WE'VE, WE'VE BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME, UM, SINCE 1972.
SO, UM, WE'VE BEEN DOING THIS KIND OF WORK AND SERVING OLDER ADULTS, UM, FOR QUITE A WHILE.
UM, WE HAVE, UM, 18 SENIOR CENTERS.
UM, SOME OF THEM WE PARTNER WITH, UM, INCLUDING THE CITY OF DALLAS, UM, TO PROVIDE MEALS, UM, TRANSPORTATION, AS WELL AS ACTIVITIES AT OTHER SITES, SITES.
UM, WE SERVE ABOUT 3,500 SENIORS A YEAR, UM, AND AT ALL OF THOSE SENIOR CENTERS COMBINED.
SO THIS KIND OF GIVES YOU AN IDEA OF WHERE WE'RE LOCATED.
[00:15:01]
AS NORTH AS GARLAND, UM, AND AS FURTHER SOUTH AS DESOTO, AND THEN A LOT IN BETWEEN.UM, SOME, A LITTLE BIT NORTH OF DALLAS AND SOME A LITTLE BIT SOUTH OF 30.
SO, UM, THESE ARE, UM, ALL OF OUR SENIOR CENTERS.
AND WHAT'S UNIQUE ABOUT OUR PROGRAM IS THAT WE TRY TO GO INTO COMMUNITIES THAT ARE UNDERSERVED, UM, TO PROVIDE RESOURCES, UM, YOU KNOW, AND, AND, AND PROVIDE NUTRITIONAL CONTENT LIKE OUR MEALS.
UM, SO THAT'S WHAT IS REALLY UNIQUE ABOUT OUR PROGRAM.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT, UM, WE DO TALK ABOUT WITH OUR STAFF AS WELL AS, UM, AUDIENCES LIKE ALL OF YOU, IS WHY ARE WE HERE? UM, WHY IS OLDER ADULT SERVICES HERE AT THE COUNTY SERVING SENIORS? UM, AND OUR PURPOSE IS TO, UH, ADDRESS SOME OF THE PROBLEMS THAT SENIORS ARE FACED IN THESE UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
UM, WE UNDERSTAND THAT THE PROGRAM ISN'T FOR EVERYONE, BUT WE KNOW THAT THERE'S A LOT OF PEOPLE, UM, IN THE COUNTY THAT DO NEED OUR SERVICES.
SO WE TRY TO ADDRESS, UM, SOME OF THE PROBLEMS OF FOOD INSECURITY, UM, WITH OUR CONGREGATE MEALS PROGRAM, UM, SOCIAL ISOLATION, UM, IN COMBINATION WITH ACTIVITIES, ENGAGEMENT, AS WELL AS THE CONGREGATE MEALS PROGRAM WHERE SENIORS GET TO SIT TOGETHER AND HAVE MEALS, UM, WITH THEIR PEERS, UM, TO TRY AND COMBAT SOME OF THAT SOCIAL ISOLATION.
BECAUSE OFTEN WE HEAR THAT SENIORS, THEY GO BACK HOME AND THEY SEE FOUR WALLS.
AND SO WE WANNA BE AN IMPACT, UM, IN THE COMMUNITY FOR THAT.
AND THE OTHER TWO AREAS, UM, NUTRITION, EDUCATION AND HEALTH AND WELLNESS.
SO WE PROVIDE NUTRITION EDUCATION, UM, AT ALL OF OUR SITES THROUGHOUT THE MONTH, UM, AS WELL AS HEALTH AND WELLNESS.
UM, ONE OF THE NEW, UM, AREAS THAT WE'RE ADDRESSING, AND WE'VE, WE STARTED ACTUALLY LAST YEAR, UM, MORE SO IS, UM, THE HEALTH SIDE.
UM, WE HAVE A COFFEE WITH THE NURSE PROGRAM WHERE WE TRY TO ADDRESS SOME OF THOSE AREAS, UM, OF CHRONIC DISEASE.
AND WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT ON THE NEXT SLIDE.
SO, TO FURTHER EXPLAIN SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE SEE, UM, THAT SENIORS ARE FACED WITH, AGAIN, SOCIAL ISOLATION, MENTAL HEALTH, UM, TRANSPORTATION IS A KEY ONE.
UM, CHRONIC HEALTH DISEASES, ACCESS TO SERVICES, SOCIOECONOMICAL, UM, DISPARITIES AND HOUSING.
UM, ALL OF THESE ARE THINGS THAT WE SEE IN THE SENIORS THAT WE SERVE.
UM, AND PRIMARILY BECAUSE THESE SENIORS THAT WE SERVE ARE IN THESE UNDERSERVED, UM, COMMUNITIES.
YOU MAY NOT SEE A LOT OF THIS IN, IN SOME OTHER AREAS THAT MAY NOT BE UNDERSERVED.
UM, BUT, BUT THESE ARE, THESE ARE SOME OF THE CHALLENGES THAT WE'RE TRYING TO, UH, MAKE AN IMPACT ON.
SO, AS I MENTIONED, UM, IN OUR, IN THE BEGINNING OF THE PRESENTATION COMING OUT OF COVID, WE'VE HAD TO KIND OF, UM, COME BACK TOGETHER AND, UH, REFOCUS AND, AND KIND OF LOOK AT THE THINGS THAT WE DO.
SO WE ACTUALLY HAVE, UM, YOU KNOW, WITH OUR PROGRAM, THREE DIFFERENT AREAS.
WE HAVE ADMINISTRATION, UM, WHICH IS KIND OF THE HUB WHERE EVERYTHING OPERATES OUT OF.
WE HAVE TRANSPORTATION, UM, AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE THE SENIOR CENTERS, WHICH WE HAVE STAFF, LIKE CENTER MANAGERS.
UM, SO THESE ARE KIND OF THE THREE AREAS THAT, ALMOST LIKE THREE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS UNDER ONE, UM, THAT, THAT WE OPERATE.
AND THIS KIND OF GIVES A GAMUT OF, OF HOW WE OPERATE FROM MORNING TILL AFTERNOON.
UM, A LOT OF DETAILS THERE, BUT JUST KIND OF AN OVERVIEW OF WHAT WE DO, UM, IN OUR DEPARTMENTS.
UM, AND WE SHOULD ADD TO THIS, UM, A NEWLY ESTABLISHED, SO SOCIAL SERVICES DIVISION, WHICH OLDER ADULT SERVICES IS ACTUALLY UNDER, UM, AND IS HEADED BY MR. MARK EDWARDS.
SO, COMING OUT OF COVID, THESE ARE A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE DID DURING COVID.
UM, WE DID, WE PASSED OUT FITNESS STRETCH BANDS.
WE HAD MENTAL HEALTH KITS, WE HAD, UM, SNACK KITS, UM, TOILETRY KITS, INSECT REPELLENTS.
UM, WE PASSED OUT GALLONS OF MILK AND SANITIZER.
UM, SO WE TRIED TO BE THE LINK, UM, THROUGHOUT THIS DIFFICULT TIME, UM, FOR OUR SENIORS TO ONE MOST OF ALL KEEP THEM
[00:20:01]
ACTIVE AND ENGAGED WITH OTHERS SO THAT THEY DON'T FALL SHORT IN THE SOCIAL ISOLATION REALM.UM, AND TOO, SO THAT THEY GET SERVICES THAT THEY NEED.
UM, BECAUSE A LOT OF OUR SENIORS ARE NOT ABLE TO GET OUT AND, UM, GET THINGS FOR THEMSELVES.
UM, SO THAT'S JUST AN OVERVIEW OF, OF WHAT WE DID DURING COVID.
SO AS WE MOVE FORWARD, AND THIS HAS ALWAYS BEEN, UM, YOU KNOW, ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT AREAS OF OUR PROGRAM IS WE ARE MORE THAN JUST A MEAL PROGRAM.
UM, WE ARE TRYING TO INSPIRE SENIORS TO ENGAGE AND LIVE HEALTHY, ACTIVE LIVES.
SO THESE ARE SOME OF THE SERVICES THAT WE PROVIDE.
UM, WE PROVIDE NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED MEALS, WHICH IS REALLY IMPORTANT.
UM, WE HEAR ALL THE TIME THAT, UM, SENIORS SAY, THIS IS THE ONLY MEAL THAT I'M GONNA HAVE TODAY.
UM, WE PARTNER, UM, WITH A FOOD VENDOR THAT DELIVERS CATERED FOOD, UM, HOT MEALS, USUALLY TO ALL OF OUR SENIOR SITES, ALL 18 SENIOR CENTERS, UM, AND SERVE.
AND THE SENIORS ACTUALLY VOLUNTEER AND HELP SERVE THE MEALS THERE.
SO ALL MEALS ARE TO NUTRITIONALLY BALANCED TO MEET THE NEEDS SPECIFICALLY FOR SENIORS.
UM, AS WE KNOW AT DIFFERENT AGE GROUPS, UM, NUTRITION MAY, MAY VARY.
THE NEXT SERVICE WE PROVIDE IS TRANSPORTATION SERVICES.
WE DO HAVE A FLEET OF BUSES, UM, WHERE WE PICK UP SENIORS, UM, FROM SPECIFIC ZIP, ZIP CODES AND BRING THEM INTO SENIOR CENTERS.
UM, NOT ALL OF THE CENTERS, BUT THE MAJORITY OF OUR, OUR CENTERS, WE DO PROVIDE THE SERVICE, UM, ALONG WITH WHEN THEY ARRIVE AT THE CENTER, SOMETIMES THERE MAY BE SOME SCHEDULED ACTIVITIES OR FIELD TRIPS.
UM, WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO GO TO, UH, TO THE GROCERY STORE WHERE THEY CAN MAYBE PICK UP THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS, UM, BY FOOD FOR THE WEEK.
UM, AND SOMETIMES WE EVEN PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES WHERE THE SENIORS CAN, UM, GAIN ACCESS TO COMMODITIES, FOOD COMMODITIES, UM, WHERE THEY CAN BRING HOME SOME BULK FOODS, UM, AND PREPARE THOSE AT HOME.
SO TRANSPORTATION IS A HUGE COMPONENT OF OUR PROGRAM.
UM, WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE NUMBERS IN A BIT.
UM, TALKED ABOUT ABOUT SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AND ACTIVITIES.
UM, WE HAVE A LOT OF ENGAGEMENT AT OUR CENTERS, AND MATTER OF FACT, THIS HAS BEEN ONE OF THE AREAS THAT WE'RE TRYING TO, UM, DEVELOP MORE, UM, BRING MORE CONSISTENCY, UM, AND UNIQUENESS TO THE PROGRAMMING AT THE SENIOR CENTERS.
UM, HEALTH AND WELLNESS ACTIVITIES, UM, VACCINATIONS AND SOCIAL SERVICES AND RESOURCES.
ALRIGHT, SO THIS IS THE ANTICIPATED SERVICE, UM, UNITS THAT, UH, FOR THIS YEAR WE ANTICIPATE SERVING ABOUT 185,000 MEALS.
THAT'S A LOT OF MEALS TO A LOT OF SENIORS, SO, UM, WE'RE REALLY PROUD AND, AND FORTUNATE THAT WE'RE ABLE TO DO THAT.
UM, TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, UM, WE APPROXIMATE ABOUT 55,000 TRIPS.
UM, THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE SPECIAL TRIPS, LIKE TO THE GROCERY STORES AND ON FIELD TRIPS.
SO YOU CAN PROBABLY ROUGH ESTIMATE ABOUT 65,000 TOTAL.
UM, VACCINATIONS, WE'VE DONE ABOUT 2,500 VACCINATIONS SO FAR.
THAT'S FLU AND COVID, UM, AT ALL OF THE SENIOR CENTERS.
SO, UM, WE'RE TRYING TO MAKE AN IMPACT THERE.
SO THIS KIND OF GIVES YOU A VISUAL OF WHAT, UM, OUR CONGREGATE MEALS PROGRAM LOOKS LIKE.
SO YOU CAN SEE AT THAT TABLE THERE'S A, UM, A LOT OF OLDER ADULTS SITTING AROUND ENJOYING, UM, THEMSELVES OVER A MEAL.
UM, AND THOSE ARE THE TYPES OF MEALS THAT WE CATER.
UM, TO, ON THE OTHER PICTURE, YOU CAN SEE SOME VOLUNTEERS WHERE THEY HELP SERVE AND PLATE THE MEALS.
UM, SO AS I MENTIONED, FOR MANY OF OUR SENIORS, THIS IS THE ONLY MEAL THAT THEY HAVE, UM, FOR A GIVEN DAY.
UM, AND FOR MANY REASONS, UM, SOMETIMES IT'S BECAUSE THEY CAN'T AFFORD OTHER FOOD.
OTHER TIMES IT COULD BE BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT ABLE TO COOK FOR THEMSELVES.
UM, SO WE, WE, WE TRY TO MAKE IT THE BEST MEAL POSSIBLE FOR THEM.
SO, AS I MENTIONED ABOUT TRANSPORTATION, UM, IS BEING A VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR OF OUR PROGRAM.
NEARLY 40% OF OUR SENIOR PARTICIPANTS REQUIRE TRANSPORTATION.
UM, SO THEREFORE 40% WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO OUR PROGRAM UNLESS WE PROVIDED, UH, TRANSPORTATION WHERE WE PICKED THEM UP FROM THEIR HOME
[00:25:01]
AND BRING THEM TO THE SENIOR CENTER.UM, AND OF COURSE, THIS IS WITHIN DESIGNATED, UM, ZIP CODE BOUNDARIES, UM, AND AREAS AROUND THE SENIOR CENTERS.
UM, YOU KNOW, WE'RE, WE'RE LIMITED IN WHAT WE CAN DO, BUT WE TRY TO, WE TRY TO PICK UP AS MANY SENIORS AS WE'RE ABLE TO WITHIN OUR SCOPE AND ROUTES.
SO, SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT AND ACTIVITIES.
I KNOW I TOUCHED A LITTLE BIT ON HERE.
UM, YOU CAN SEE WITH SOME OF THE PHOTOS, SOME OF OUR SENIOR CENTERS, UM, THEY DO TAI CHI, THEY DO AEROBICS, THEY DO CHAIR YOGA.
UM, AND ALONG WITH ACTIVITIES, THEY DO ARTS AND CRAFTS.
UM, WE HAVE A NEW COMPONENT THAT WE'VE ADDED, UM, TO OUR CENTERS AND WE ARE ACTUALLY EXPANDING, UM, IT'S CALLED ACTIVITIES WITH GWEN, UM, WHICH ALLOWS SOME COGNITIVE GAMING, UM, CHALLENGES, AND THE SENIORS ARE REALLY ENJOYING IT.
UM, WE ALSO HAVE ANOTHER ACTIVITY WHERE WE BRING IN, UM, ONE OF OUR COORDINATORS AND HE COMES IN AND DOES FITNESS WITH THE SENIORS.
SENIORS, UM, TRY TO KEEP THEM ACTIVE AND ENGAGED.
AS I MENTIONED, OUR COFFEE, UM, WITH THE NURSE PROGRAM, UM, WE HAVE A NURSE THAT COMES IN, UM, ON VARIOUS DAYS TO DIFFERENT SENIOR CENTERS, UM, TO KIND OF COMBAT SOME OF THE CHRONIC ILLNESSES THAT SENIORS ARE FACED WITH.
UM, AS WE KNOW, UM, YOU KNOW, HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND DIABETES AFFECTS, UH, MANY OF OUR SENIORS.
UM, SO THEY'LL COME IN AND THEY'LL CHECK THEIR BLOOD PRESSURE, UM, ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THEY MAY HAVE, MAYBE IF THEY HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR PRESCRIPTIONS, UM, MAYBE TIPS ON HOW TO MAINTAIN A HEALTHY BLOOD PRESSURE AS WELL AS THE BLOOD GLUCOSE.
UM, SO THIS WAS A REALLY, UM, NEEDED SERVICE THAT WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE AND ABLE TO IMPLEMENT INTO MANY OF OUR SENIOR CENTERS, UM, LATE LAST YEAR.
SO, UM, YOU KNOW, POST COVID
UM, AND SO THAT WAS REALLY IMPORTANT TO OUR SENIORS AND, UM, ALSO TO PROVIDE A GIFT CARD ALONG WITH THAT GIFT CARD TO KIND OF ENCOURAGE THEM TO GET VACCINATED AND STAY WELL.
SO THERE'S SOME PHOTOS THERE THAT YOU CAN SEE.
SO OUR SOCIAL SERVICES APPLICATION ASSISTANCE, UM, OLDER ADULT SERVICES WORKS CLOSELY WITH THE SOCIAL SERVICE DIVISION, UM, HEADED BY MARK EDWARDS.
UM, AND THESE ARE SOME OF THE RESOURCES, UM, THAT WE'RE ABLE TO CONNECT WITH OUR SENIORS.
UM, UM, DO ONE-ON-ONE APPLICATION ASSISTANCE.
AND I THINK THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT BECAUSE, UM, SENIORS, NOT ALL SENIORS, BUT A LOT OF SENIORS, ESPECIALLY THOSE IN DISA DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES, UM, HAVE TROUBLE ACCESSING TECHNOLOGY.
THEY HAVE, UH, THEY HAVE TROUBLE UNDERSTANDING WHAT SOME OF THE APPLICATION IS ABOUT.
AND SO WE HAVE A TEAM HERE AT DALLAS COUNTY THAT IS ABLE TO GO INTO THE SENIOR CENTER, SIT DOWN ONE-ON-ONE WITH THE SENIORS, AND PROVIDE, UM, APPLICATION ASSISTANCE IN THESE AREAS.
UM, ONE OF THE MOST RECENT AND WHERE WE PARTNERED WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS, UM, WAS THE HEARING AIDS, UM, THAT, THAT THEY HAD BACK IN APRIL, UM, WITH MIRACLE EAR, WHERE WE, UM, WORKED ONE-ON-ONE WITH SENIORS TO TRY AND PROCESS SOME OF THOSE APPLICATIONS.
SO THOSE THAT REALLY NEEDED A HEARING AID, WE WOULD BE ABLE TO REALLY HELP THEM GET THAT.
SO, UM, THAT WAS A GREAT, GREAT PROGRAM AND A GREAT COLLABORATION.
SO, UM, AS I MENTIONED, UM, HUNGER, UM, AND FOOD INSECURITY IS, IS REALLY PREVALENT AROUND AMONG OUR UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE STARTED A COUPLE YEARS AGO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MANY DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS IS A SENIOR HUNGER SUMMIT, AND WHERE WE'D HAVE ANYWHERE FROM 150 TO 200 SENIORS, UM, COME OUT AND TALK ABOUT, UM, HUNGER AND WHAT WE CAN DO AS A COMMUNITY TO REALLY HELP THOSE SENIORS THAT, UM, AND NEED ASSISTANCE, UM, WITH HUNGER.
UM, WE, DURING THESE SUMMITS, WE'D HAVE PRESENTERS, AS YOU CAN SEE ON THERE.
UM, WE HAD A TAI CHI PERFORMANCE, UM,
[00:30:01]
SOME OTHER, UM, SENIOR, UM, OTHER PERFORMANCES.SO THIS IS A REALLY NICE EVENT, UM, THAT WE'RE TRYING TO CONTINUE ON WITH OUR COLLABORATORS, UM, AND HOPEFULLY HAVE ONE IN SEPTEMBER.
SO, UM, MORE RECENTLY WE HAD A VACCINE SUMMIT, VERY SIMILAR TO OUR HUNGER SUMMIT.
ONLY WAS FOCUSED ON, ON VACCINES, AND THIS WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.
UM, IN THE PHOTO THERE, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAD OTHER, UM, ACTIVITIES FOR THEM AS WELL TO KEEP THEM ENGAGED SO THAT, UM, IT'S NOT JUST EDUCAT THAT IT'S A FUN EXPERIENCE.
UM, BUT WE EDUCATED THEM AND PROVIDED INFORMATION ON VACCINES.
WE WERE ABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT THEY HAD, WHICH THEY HAD A LOT OF QUESTIONS ABOUT VACCINES, UM, AND WE ALSO PROVIDED A MEAL FOR THEM.
SO, UM, THIS IS A VERY, VERY GOOD, UM, VERY FUN ACTIVITY FOR THEM.
AND MATTER OF FACT, AT THE VACCINE SUMMIT, UM, WE HAD ABOUT 200 SENIORS THERE AND 50% OF THE SENIORS GOT VACCINATED ON THE SPOT, SO, UM, IT WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL.
SO, SOME OF OUR DESIRED OUTCOMES AND PRIORITIES, UM, WE ARE FOCUSED ON ENHANCED PROGRAMS THAT
UM, CONNECTING WITH THE SENIOR COMMUNITY, UH, WE WANNA CONNECT WITH THEM AND PROVIDE RESOURCES, UM, TO THEM.
UM, AND A LOT OF THAT IS DONE.
ONE-ON-ONE, UM, AS WELL AS PRESENTATION PRESENTATIONS.
AND ALSO, UM, PARTNERING WITH DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS TO BRING IN VALUE INFORMATION, UM, AND MOBILIZING OUR STAFF FOR SUCCESS.
UM, I THINK WE FOCUS A LOT ON, UM, WORKING WITH OUR STAFF TO FIRST OFF, ONE, UNDERSTAND THE OLDER POPULATION, TWO, WHAT THEY NEED, AND THREE, HOW TO ACTUALLY WORK WITH THEM.
UM, SO THESE ARE SOME KEY STEPS.
AND THEN LAST ONE, THERE IS VALUE IN AGING AT ANY AGE.
AND SO UNDERSTANDING THAT ALL OF OUR SENIORS, UM, THOSE THAT ARE IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES, THOSE THAT ARE IN POVERTY, THOSE THAT ARE FACED WITH ALL OF THESE CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE SPOKEN ABOUT, THAT THEY HAVE VALUE IN BRINGING THAT OUT IN THEM WHEN THEY ATTEND OUR SENIOR CENTERS.
UM, IT'S ALL ABOUT THE SENIORS.
UM, AND THAT'S PART OF OUR, UM, PRIORITIES AND OUTCOMES.
OH, THAT PHOTO THERE IS ALL OF OUR STAFF.
UM, WE RECENTLY HAD A OLDIES DAY, AND SO YOU CAN SEE ELVIS THERE AND, UM, SOME OTHER PEOPLE.
UM, SO OUR STAFF ARE VERY INVOLVED IN OUR PROGRAM.
UM, WHERE WE'VE HAD THE GREATEST IMPACT ON THE SENIOR COMMUNITY.
WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR FOOD VENDOR, FOOD VENDOR, UM, TO REALLY IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF OUR MEALS SO THAT SENIORS DO WANNA COME, THEY DO WANNA PARTAKE IN OUR, IN, IN OUR HOT MEALS.
UM, WE HAVE IMPROVED HEALTH AND WELLNESS, UM, THROUGH EDUCATION.
ONE-ON-ONE, UM, BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS AND GLUCOSE CHECKS, UM, ABLE TO CONNECT WITH A NURSE WHEN THEIR DOCTORS ARE NOT AVAILABLE.
SO, UM, THE, THIS IS A REALLY IMPORTANT, UM, COMPONENT OF MAKING, UM, IMPROVEMENTS IN OUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND IMPROVED ACCESS TO SERVICES.
UM, WORKING WITH OUR SOCIAL SERVICE DIVISION HERE AT DALLAS COUNTY, UM, AND, AND TEAMING UP WITH OUR, OUR CENTER STAFF WHERE WE CAN IDENTIFY THOSE THAT MAY IN NEED AND WHERE WE CAN PROVIDE THEM INFORMATION AND RESOURCES SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE A BETTER, UM, A BETTER LIFE.
UM, IMPROVED CUSTOMER SERVICE.
UM, THIS IS, UH, VERY IMPORTANT.
UM, WE WORK WITH OUR STAFF, WE COACH THEM, UM, TEACH THEM HOW TO WORK WITH OUR SENIORS COMING IN, UM, AND AS WELL AS ENHANCED ACTIVITIES, ENGAGEMENT, AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THOSE ARE SOME PHOTOS THERE YOU CAN SEE OF THE SENIORS AND OUR, OUR STAFF KIND OF WORKING WITH.
AND SO WE HAVE, WE WORK WITH A LOT OF ORGANIZATIONS AND AGENCIES.
THESE ARE JUST A FEW, UM, PARTNERS.
UM, WE HAVE SALVATION ARMY THERE, CITY OF DALLAS.
WE WORK LOTS OF CHURCHES AND SOME OF THESE INTERNAL, UM, INTERNAL, UM, PROGRAMS THAT WE WORK WITH.
SO, UM, PARTNERSHIPS, UM, IT'S VERY, UH, VERY BENEFICIAL TO WORKING WITH OUR SENIORS BECAUSE NOT EVERYBODY CAN BE A PRO AT EVERYTHING.
AND SO SOME, SOME ORGANIZATIONS
[00:35:01]
HAVE, UM, BETTER, UM, BETTER INFORMATION THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE AND, AND EDUCATION FOR OUR SENIORS.AND SO TO FINALIZE THAT MY PRESENTATION ENGAGE AT EVERY AGE, UM, WE, WE STRIVE TO ENSURE THAT OLDER ADULTS IN DALLAS COUNTY ARE ACTIVE, INDEPENDENT, AND HEALTHY.
AND THE NEXT SLIDE HAS MY EMAIL AND OUR CONTACT INFORMATION.
SO IF YOU KNOW OF ANYBODY THAT, UM, WOULD BE INTERESTED IN JOINING OUR PROGRAM, UM, YOU'RE WELCOME TO PROVIDE THAT INFORMATION.
WE WILL HAVE, UH, I'M SURE WE'LL HAVE QUESTIONS.
WELL, WE'VE GOT AN ECHO THAT IS A LOT MORE OF AN ECHO.
UM, WHO QUALIFIES TO PARTICIPATE IN THE VARIOUS PROGRAMS YOU'VE GOT? ARE THERE INCOME TESTS AND ALL OF THAT? CAN YOU GIVE US THE DETAILS ON WHO'S ELIGIBLE? YES, GREAT QUESTION.
SO, UM, ANYBODY WHO IS AGED 60 AND OLDER, UM, IS QUALIFIES TO JOIN THE PROGRAM.
SO THERE IS NO INCOME ELIGIBILITY, ANYTHING LIKE THAT.
DOES THAT ALSO APPLY TO MEALS AT THE SENIOR CENTERS OR, UM, IN TRANSPORTATION TO THOSE? YES.
SO A EIGHT 60 IS THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA ACROSS THE BOARD, UM, FOR MEALS AND TRANSPORTATION.
AND YOU'RE SERVING ABOUT, I HAVE THE RIGHT 3,500 PEOPLE, INDIVIDUAL PEOPLE PER YEAR.
MM-HMM,
HAVE YOU GOTTEN BACK TO THE PRE COVID LEVELS THAT YOU WERE AT BEFORE COVID HIT? WE ACTUALLY HAVE, UM, IT TOOK A WHILE, UM, AND ACTUALLY WHEN, UM, POST COVID, WE HAD TO REOPEN THE CENTER SOME STAGES.
UM, AND AT EACH STAGE WE WERE ABLE TO LEARN A LITTLE BIT.
UM, BUT WE ARE ACTUALLY BACK AT, UM, PRE COVID LEVELS AND IN SOME, IN INSTANCES LIKE TRANSPORTATION, UM,
YOU MENTIONED THAT THERE WERE CERTAIN ZIP CODE QUALIFICATIONS, I GUESS, FOR CERTAIN SERVICES.
UH, COULD YOU CLARIFY, I JUST WAS CURIOUS TO KNOW IF ZIP CODE 7 5 2, 4 3 IS INCLUDED AND THAT ZIP CODE, THAT'S THE HAMILTON PARK AREA YOU SO FOR TRANSPORTATION.
UM, AND, AND THAT'S, UH, AT SOME CENTERS WE'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES.
UM, I THINK ABOUT, UM, 10 SITES WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION, UM, AT VARIOUS ZIP CODE.
I WON'T EVEN SAY IN ZIP CODE AREAS, BUT THERE IS A PROXIMITY AROUND THOSE SENIOR CENTERS, UM, THAT WE DO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION.
IT'S WILLIAMS. YEAH, I DON'T THINK WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION IN THAT AREA.
SO WHAT IS THE CRITERIA TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION? SO WITHIN SPECIFIC SENIOR CENTERS, UM, WE PROVIDE, WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO THOSE SENIOR CENTERS.
WILLIE B IS NOT ONE OF 'EM THAT WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO TOO.
UM, AND THEY DO A LOT OF THEIR INDEPENDENT PROGRAMMING, ALTHOUGH WE DO, UM, SOME EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS THERE AND SOME TRAININGS.
UM, SO THEY, THEY KIND OF OPERATE JUST A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENTLY THAN SOME OF THE OTHER CENTERS.
UM, 'CAUSE THAT'S PRIMARILY OPERATED BY THE CITY.
UM, BUT SOME OTHER CENTERS, UM, THAT WE OPERATE AND, UM, HAVE STAFF AT, UM, WE DO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION.
SO IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE SENIOR CENTER.
AND WILLIE B IS NOT ONE OF THOSE THAT WE DO, THAT WE PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION.
I HOPE THAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION A LITTLE BETTER.
COULD YOU PLEASE, COULD YOU PLEASE SHARE CHAIR, UH, THE CENTERS CENTERS YOU PROVIDE FOR AND AND SEND THAT, SEND THAT TO US, TO US.
IS THAT BASED ON THE FACT THAT SOME CENTERS HAVE THEIR OWN KITCHENS AND THEY DO THEIR OWN, UH, NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS? IS THAT PART OF THE NO.
WELL WE, WE PROVIDE MEALS AT, UH, GREAT
[00:40:01]
QUESTION.SO WE PROVIDE MEALS AT ALL OF THE SENIOR CENTERS.
SO NOT NECESSARILY WITH THE KITCHEN, BUT MORE SO ABOUT THE OVERSIGHT OF THE PROGRAMMING AND HOW, UM, HOW INDEPENDENT THAT CENTER MAY WANT TO BE.
UM, SO, UM, FOR EXAMPLE, WILLIE BE, THEY LIKE TO, YOU KNOW, THEY, THEY DO A LOT OF THEIR, UM, STUFF THAT THEY DO AT THE CENTER, THE PROGRAMS AND STUFF.
WE DON'T REALLY DO A LOT OF THAT THERE EXCEPT FOR MORE EDUCATIONAL, UM, PRESENTATIONS AND, UM, AND WHATNOT.
AND SO THAT'S KIND OF REALLY WHAT WHAT, YOU KNOW, MAKES, MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.
WELL, THE REASON I ASK IS BECAUSE, UH, THE FARMER COMMISSIONER JERRY BAKER, WHEN THEY WERE GETTING READY TO REDO THAT CENTER, SHE WAS STRESSING THE FACT THAT THEY REALLY, REALLY WANTED THEIR OWN KITCHEN SO THAT THEY COULD DO THOSE KIND OF NUTRITIONAL PROGRAMS ON THEIR OWN.
AND THEY WANTED TO DO A LOT OF NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING AND EDUCATION.
SO THAT WAS WHAT, WHAT MY QUESTION WAS REALLY BASED ON, I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION TOO.
I ATTENDED A, A HEALTH CONFERENCE THIS WEEKEND AND THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT THE RSV VACCINE FOR SENIORS, AND I HEARD YOU MENTION ABOUT THE COVID VACCINE.
I KNEW THERE, I KNOW THAT THERE'S A NEW BOOSTER BOOSTER THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR THAT'S RECOMMENDED FOR SENIORS, AND I SAW THE DART, UH, BOOTH SET UP.
UH, AND THAT WAS REALLY, REALLY NICE.
YOU ALL WERE SWAMPED OVER THERE.
SO IS THE COUNTY GOING TO DO AN RSB PROGRAM OR IS THAT SOMETHING YOU'RE CONSIDERING, OR WHAT? I THINK THAT'S, UM, SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD NEED TO LOOK AT AND, UM, THE, UM, KIND OF COLLABORATE WITH OUR OUTREACH DEPARTMENT, UM, AND WHAT SOME OF THOSE RECOMMENDATIONS MAY BE FROM THEM.
UM, YOU KNOW, IT DEFINITELY, I MEAN, THERE'S A LOT MORE VACCINATIONS THAT ARE AVAILABLE OTHER THAN, UM, COVID FLU, BUT THOSE ARE, THOSE ARE THE, YOU KNOW, CERTAIN ONES FOR SENIORS.
AND I THINK RSV IS IS ALSO IMPORTANT.
SO WE'D HAVE TO CHECK ON THAT.
UM, BUT GREAT QUESTION IN SHINGLES TOO.
UH, MY QUESTION IS JUST LOOKING AT YOUR PROJECTS, UH, THE CITADELS IS ONE OF YOUR PROJECTS.
HOW DO YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS THAT ARE ALSO MIRRORED BY THE CITY? IE POSSIBLY THE TRANSPORTATION AND OR, UH, THE FOOD PROGRAMS, THE, THE, UH, HEARINGS PROGRAMS, UH, WHAT PROGRAMS MIRROR THAT YOU COLLABORATE WITH THE DALLAS, WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS LAW, OR DO YOU COLLABORATE? OKAY.
UM, I HOPE I HEARD YOU RIGHT, 'CAUSE THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF ECHO THERE AS WELL.
UM, SO I THINK, I THINK YOU'RE ASKING WHAT PROGRAMS THAT WE COLLABORATE AND MIRROR WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS, IS THAT CORRECT? YES.
SO, UM, THE CITY OF DALLAS HAS SOME REALLY GREAT PROGRAMS, UM, AT ALL OF THEIR SENIOR REC CENTERS.
I KNOW THEIR ASAP PROGRAM, THEY DO A LOT OF ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, UM, ON, YOU KNOW, BY THEIR STAFF.
UM, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO DO WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS TO PARTNER IS THE MEALS PROGRAM.
UM, AND ALSO OUR EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS RELATED TO NUTRITION.
UM, WE ALSO HAVE, UM, AT SOME OF THE SITES, UM, THAT WE PARTNER WITH, UM, WE DO DO SOME OF THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS WITH OUR NURSES.
UM, NOT ALL, BUT THERE ARE A FEW THAT WE DO WORK WITH.
UM, SO PRIMARILY, UM, THOSE WOULD BE THE AREAS THAT WE DO COLLABORATE, UM, WITH, UM, THE MEALS IS, IS AN IMPORTANT IS IS ACROSS THE BOARD AT ALL OF THE SITES THAT WE WOULD PARTNER WITH, WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS.
DID I ANSWER YOUR QUESTION? YES, YOU DID.
I I, I, MY REASON FOR ASKING THAT WOULD BE IF THERE ARE ANY GAPS AND IF THERE ARE GAPS, ARE YOU WORKING COOPERATIVELY WITH YOUR PARTNERS TO ENSURE, UH, THAT THOSE GAPS ARE BEING ADDRESSED AS EFFICIENTLY AS THEY CAN BE? GOTCHA.
SO I THINK THAT THEY'RE DEFINITELY THE, THE CITY OF DALLAS AND, AND THE PARK AND REC, THEY HAVE NUMEROUS LOCATIONS, SO I CAN'T SPEAK FOR ALL OF THEM.
I KNOW THEY DO, THEY DO A LOT OF PROGRAMMING AT, AT ALL OF THEM.
I DON'T, I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT LOOKS LIKE, 'CAUSE WE'RE NOT AT ALL OF THEM.
UM, BUT AT SOME OF OUR SITES, UM, WE DO COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS, UM, IN THAT AREA.
[00:45:01]
TRY TO MEET THOSE GAPS AND THEY TRY TO MEET OUR GAPS.AND SO WE TRY TO MEET THE SENIORS NEEDS.
UM, I THINK ONE THING ACROSS THE BOARD, AND NO MATTER IF IT'S THE CITY OF DALLAS OR DALLAS COUNTY, AND WHETHER IT'S AN INDEPENDENT SITE, UM, TRANSPORTATION IS A HUGE DEAL.
UM, WHETHER IT'S MAKING IT TO, UM, ON A FIELD TRIP OR THESE SPECIAL EVENTS THAT, THAT MAY BE HOSTED BY THE CITY OF DALLAS OR EVEN HOSTED, UM, BY SOME OTHER AGENCIES OR ORGANIZATIONS.
THERE, THERE IS A GAP IN TRANSPORTATION.
UM, SO I WOULD, IF I HAD TO PICK SOMETHING, I WOULD, I WOULD PICK TRANSPORTATION.
UM, I, WE UNDERSTAND THE CHALLENGES THAT WE'RE FACING WITH THE SENIOR HUNGER SUMMIT.
YOU KNOW, WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THOSE.
UM, I KNOW THAT THERE'S ALSO THE DALLAS HUNGER SUMMIT.
HAS THAT BEEN PUT ON HOLD TOO BECAUSE OF THE SAME CHALLENGES? UM, TO MY KNOWLEDGE, DEBBIE? NO.
I THINK THE, THE HUNGER SUMMIT WILL CONTINUE.
I KNOW THAT WE ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LOOKING FORWARD AN ADMINISTRATOR TO, TO REPLACE MANELA.
SO ONCE, ONCE THAT'S IN PLACE, UM, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO RECONVENE WITH THE CONVERSATION ON PLANNING THAT, THAT DALLAS HUNGER SUMMIT.
AND, AND NOT TO PUT JAMES ON THE SPOT, BUT HE HAD BEEN, HE SLIPPED OFF, HE FELL OFF THE EMAILS.
AND SO I, UM, FORWARDED WHAT I HAD TO HIM AND TO YOU, JEANETTE, I'M NOT EXCLUDING YOU.
I, UM, SENT JAMES WHAT I HAD BECAUSE HE SOMEHOW SLIPPED OFF AND THAT KIND OF THING HAPPENS.
BUT I JUST THOUGHT I'D ASK YOU ABOUT THE DALLAS HUNGER SUMMIT.
YEAH, NO, NO, THANK YOU, DEBBIE AND JEN, I JUST WILL SAY THIS, JUST QUICKLY TO PIGGYBACK ON THE EARLIER CONVERSATION AND, UM, UH, THE EXPLANATIONS THAT MS. SANA WAS GIVING AS IT PERTAINS TO TRANSPORTATION, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT YOU ALL KNOW IS THAT WE CERTAINLY ARE ALL LIMITED TO, TO, TO, TO CAPACITY AND, AND BANDWIDTH IN TERMS OF PROVIDING SERVICES.
AND SO ALTHOUGH WE WOULD LOVE TO BE ABLE TO PROVIDE MORE AND MORE TRANSPORTATION, WE ARE ACTUALLY AT CAPACITY ON, ON PROVIDING TRANS, THE TRANSPORTATION THAT WE CURRENTLY ARE PROVIDING.
SO, UM, IN, IS THERE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ANY EXPANSION IN THE, IN, IN THE IMMINENT FUTURE? I DON'T FORESEE THAT.
UM, BUT THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD ALWAYS LIKE TO, TO, TO, YOU KNOW, REACH TOWARDS, UM, BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THERE IS THE NEED THERE.
UM, AND LASTLY, IN TERMS OF THE, UM, RSV AND, UM, UH, SHINGLES VACCINE, THAT IS A, THAT'S, THOSE ARE VERY COSTLY VACCINES, AND THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT OUTSIDE, UH, OUR SCOPE IN TERMS OF VOLUME.
UM, AND SO I DON'T FORESEE THOSE BEING, UM, DISTRIBUTED ANYTIME SOON EITHER.
THAT'S GOOD TO KNOW THAT, THAT'S REALLY GOOD TO KNOW.
UH, IN, IN REFERENCE TO TRANSPORTATION, I KNOW THAT, YOU KNOW, THE COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF GREATER DALLAS PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION SERVICES AND YOU ALL PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION SERVICES, AND THEN, UM, THERE'S ANOTHER AGENCY.
SO DO YOU ALL COORDINATE IN ANY WAY, OR IS THERE A PARTNERSHIP THERE, OR ARE YOU OVERLAPPING? WHAT, WHAT IS IT? UM, I, WELL, I'LL, I'LL LET JEANNETTE RESPOND TO THAT, BUT NO, THERE'S, THERE'S NO OVERLAPPING ON OUR PART.
OUR, OUR, OUR TRANSPORTATION PROGRAM IS SPECIFIC TO EACH CENTER.
AND YOURS IS STRICTLY DALLAS COUNTY, RIGHT? WELL, NO, THERE ARE SOME, THERE ARE SOME OTHER AREAS THAT ARE, UH, IN THE CITY OF DALLAS, BUT THEY'RE SPECIFIC TO EACH, UM, SENIOR CENTER LOCATION.
NO, I DIDN'T MEAN IT THAT WAY.
I MEAN THAT YOUR TRANSPORTATION SERVICES ARE YOUR OWN TRANSPORTATION SERVICES PROVIDED BY YOU? YES, THAT'S CORRECT.
AND WHEREAS COMMUNITY COUNCIL OF GREATER DALLAS PARTNERS WITH VARIOUS AGENCIES YES, THE MY RIDE PROGRAMS. OKAY.
SO I HAVE, UM, A QUESTION, CLARIFICATION QUESTION.
SO WHEN YOU SAY YOUR CENTERS FOR DALLAS COUNTY, YOU MEAN YOUR CENTERS, YOU'RE NOT SPEAKING OF THE PARK AND RECREATION CENTERS, CORRECT? YOU MEAN IN RELATION TO TRANSPORTATION OR, YES, YES.
HOWEVER, SOME OF OUR SE SOME OF DALLAS COUNTY SENIOR CENTERS ARE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF DALLAS, WHERE WE DO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION, UM, FOR EXAMPLE, OVER AT LARRY, LARRY JOHNSON AND MLK COMMUNITY CENTER.
UM, THOSE ARE TWO SITES THAT, UM, THAT WE DO HAVE AT THE CITY OF DALLAS THAT WE KIND OF OVERSEE AND PARTNER WITH, UM, THE CITY OF DALLAS.
AND SO WE DO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION AT THOSE TWO SITES.
SO, UM, AS WELL AS WEST DALLAS
[00:50:01]
SO TRANSPORTATION FROM THE REC CENTER TO YOUR FACILITY? NO.OR FROM YOUR HOME? FROM THEIR HOME, YEAH.
SO WE PICKED PICK THEM UP CURBSIDE, UM, FROM THEIR HOME, AND THEN WE BRING THEM INTO THE SENIOR CENTER, WHICH IS ACTUALLY AT THE CITY OF DALLAS REC CENTER.
AND THEN THEY PARTICIPATE IN THE PROGRAM, AND THEN WE TAKE THEM BACK HOME, UM, AFTER THAT.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CLEARING THAT OUT FOR ME.
IF, IF MY MATH IS DIRECT, YOU'RE SERVING ABOUT 2% OF THE SENIORS OVER 60 IN THE, IN DALLAS COUNTY WITH THIS PROGRAM.
AND THERE'S, UH, THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 50,000 SENIORS LIVING IN POVERTY WITHIN THAT DISTRICT.
SO, AND THERE'S 200,000 TOTAL SENIORS.
SO ARE, ARE YOU BEING LIMITED BY HOW MUCH MONEY YOU'RE RECEIVING? IS THAT THE LIMITATION, OR DO YOU HAVE THE CAPACITY TO SERVE MORE PEOPLE THAT YOU'RE SERVING WITH RESOURCES THAT PROVIDED THROUGH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT? YEAH, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
UM, AT, AT SOME OF OUR CENTERS, WE ARE AT CAPACITY, UM, AND WE DO HAVE SOME CENTERS THAT WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE, UM, ROOM TO SERVE MORE SENIORS.
UM, WE, UH, WE ARE LIMITED, YOU KNOW, IN TERMS OF FUNDING, UM, BUT WE STILL STRIVE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THOSE THAT ARE MOST IN NEED.
SO WE'RE ENROLLING SENIORS, UM, ALL THE TIME.
ARE WE GONNA BE ABLE TO SERVE 50% OF THE SENIOR POPULATION? I I, WE, WE DON'T HAVE THE RESOURCES TO DO THAT, BUT CAN WE DO A LITTLE BIT MORE? ABSOLUTELY.
WE CAN ALWAYS DO A LITTLE BIT MORE.
UM, AND WE DO THAT WITH, UM, YOU KNOW, WORKING WITH OUR PARTNERS AND, AND GETTING IN THE COMMUNITIES AND ALL OF OUR SITES THAT WE'RE AT, EVEN THE CITY OF DALLAS SITES, YOU HAVE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN NEED THAT WALK IN AND, AND WE TRY TO MEET THOSE NEEDS.
UM, SO I HOPE THAT ANSWERS YOUR QUESTION, BUT WE ARE LIMITED.
WE DO HAVE, YOU KNOW, CONSTRAINTS, UM, JUST AS ANY, ANY OTHER ORGANIZATION.
HOWEVER, WE ARE STILL WORKING TO SERVE MORE SENIORS, UM, AT, AT A LOT OF THOSE LOCATIONS THAT WE STILL HAVE MORE CAPACITY.
THEY TURNING PEOPLE AWAY HERE.
THAT'S MY, I'M SORRY, WHAT WAS THAT? THE QUESTION WAS, ARE YOU TURNING PEOPLE AWAY? NO, WE ARE NOT.
I DON'T KNOW IF SHE STILL DOES.
LISA, LISA, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? I WAS JUST CURIOUS.
I HEAR THE WORD UNDERSERVED AREA THROWN OUT A LOT.
WHAT IS THAT AND WHERE IS THAT? THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION.
AND WHAT IS UNDERSERVED NEED? IT'S, IT'S OBJECTIVE, UM, SUBJECTIVE ON AS TO WHAT YOU THINK WE HAVE, UM, A CENTER, FOR EXAMPLE, WE HAVE A CENTER THAT'S, UM, NORTH OF DALLAS, UM, FINANCIALLY THEY MAY NOT BE IN NEED, UM, BUT THEY ARE SOCIALLY ISOLATED, AND SO THEY ARE IN NEED OF SOCIALIZATION.
SO THEY COME TO OUR CENTER FOR THAT PURPOSE.
AND WE HAVE SOME OTHER CENTERS THAT WE DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO A GROCERY STORE.
THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO TRANS TO TRANSPORTATION, THEY DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO TECHNOLOGY.
UM, AND SO THOSE ARE OTHER, ANOTHER FORM OF UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES THAT WE GO INTO, UM, PICK THEM UP AND BRING THEM INTO THE CENTER.
THEY SOLELY RELY ON A LOT OF THOSE AREAS FOR US TO RECEIVE SERVICES.
SO THE IDEA OF UNDERSERVED IS, YOU KNOW, SUBJECTIVE ON, ON, ON WHAT, HOW YOU WOULD, UH, UH, PERCEIVE THAT.
UM, BUT THOSE ARE SOME EXAMPLES.
ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? I, I HAVE A QUESTION FOR MARK AND JEANETTE AND, AND I, I DON'T WANNA MONOPOLIZE, UH, I JUST HAVE A LOT OF QUESTIONS, SO MAYBE I SHOULD CALL YOU PRIVATELY, BUT, UM, I WANTED TO KNOW IF SAND BRANCH IS CONSIDERED SERVICEABLE, YOU KNOW, IT'S A PART OF OUR DISTRICT, BUT YOU KNOW, IT'S, UH, UNINCORPORATED.
SO MARK, CAN YOU ANSWER THAT? UM,
[00:55:01]
I, WE, WE'D HAVE TO LOOK INTO THAT, DEBBIE.UM, AND MAYBE WE TALK ABOUT IT OFFLINE.
WE'RE OUR DISTRICT, IT'S PART OF MY DISTRICT, AND WE'RE DOING AN EVENT THERE THIS WEEKEND, UHHUH, AND THEY'VE ASKED, YEAH, THEY'VE ASKED ME TO COME, BUT THEY'RE NOT, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE A LOT OF VENDORS THERE.
AND THEY PUT A LOT OF PRESSURE ON ME TO BRING INFORMATION FROM DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND STUFF, WHICH I REALLY DON'T FEEL QUALIFIED TO DO.
I'D RATHER HAVE THE VENDORS THERE THEMSELVES, BUT I WAS WONDERING IF THEY WERE SERVICEABLE BY DALLAS COUNTY BECAUSE THEY'RE UNINCORPORATED.
AND FROM MY UNDERSTANDING, IT WAS ORIGINALLY A, A FREEDMAN'S TOWN, AND I DON'T KNOW ALL THE HISTORY.
SO I WANTED TO ASK BECAUSE THEY COULD REALLY BENEFIT FROM ALL THE THINGS THAT YOU'RE SAYING.
THEY DON'T HAVE RUNNING WATER.
THAT'S, IT'S, YOU KNOW, MIND BLOWING.
AND I WANTED TO ASK YOU ABOUT LAST YEAR IN, IN YOUR, I, I DO, UH, DALLAS COUNTY ON FACEBOOK.
SO I TRY TO KEEP UP WITH WHAT YOU ALL ARE DOING.
AND I KNOW LAST YEAR ABOUT THIS TIME YOU WERE OFFERING, UM, ASSISTANCE TO PEOPLE WHO NEEDED THEIR ACS REPAIRED, UH, INCLUDING CENTRAL AIR AND REPLACEMENT OF ACS.
AND SO I HAVEN'T SEEN THAT YET.
AND THE MOST INTERESTING THING IS WE WERE GUEST AT, UH, DISTRICT 11 SENIOR LISTENING SESSION THIS PAST WEEKEND.
AND, AND I WANTED TO THANK THE, THE COMMISSIONER FOR HAVING US.
BUT IT'S A WONDERFUL, BEAUTIFUL NEIGHBORHOOD, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF LADIES THERE WHO ARE NOW SINGLE FOR, YOU KNOW, WHATEVER REASON, MAYBE THEIR SPOUSE HAS PASSED OR WHATEVER, AND THEY, THEY HAVE A COMFORTABLE LIFE, BUT THEY'RE HAVING TO STRETCH THEIR BUDGETS AND A LOT OF THEM ARE NOT AWARE OF SERVICES THAT YOU ALL HAVE HERE FOR WHATEVER REASON.
AND IT'S KIND OF SAD TO ME, YOU KNOW? AND SO, YOU KNOW, ME WITH MY MOUTH AND ALWAYS WANTING TO PUT A BANDAID ON EVERYBODY'S BOO BOO.
I WAS SHARING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU ALL DO, AND HOPEFULLY THEY'LL REACH OUT TO YOU AND MAC, KYLE, AND, AND CHRISTINA AND AND JAMES WERE THERE TOO, TELLING ABOUT ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS THAT ARE AVAILABLE TO THEM.
BUT, UM, IT'S NOT JUST THE UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES.
THERE'S PEOPLE EVERYWHERE THAT NEED YOU ALL.
AND SO THANK YOU ALL FOR EVERYTHING THAT YOU DO, AND I SINCERELY MEAN IT.
IF, IF YOU'RE ABLE TO PROVIDE, UM, SHOOT US AN EMAIL, UH, TO JEANETTE AND I, UM, WE'D CERTAINLY BE ABLE TO LOOK AT, UH, PROVIDING SOME ADDITIONAL RESOURCES IN THOSE AREAS, ESPECIALLY SAND BRANCH.
'CAUSE I CAN'T IMAGINE IF YOU'RE NOT HAVING RUNNING WATER, WHAT KIND OF THINGS HAPPEN BECAUSE THEY ACTUALLY BRING WATER IN AND CASES AND JUGS AND CONTAINERS AND WHATEVER.
THANK, ONE OF MY OWN QUESTIONS, UH, IS THE MONEY THAT YOU HAVE FROM, FROM THE STATE, FROM THE FEDS, WHATEVER THE FUNDS PROGRAMS THAT YOU'VE GOT, MOST OF THAT IS EITHER FEDERAL, MOST OF THE FEDERAL MONEY, UH, 5 6 2 U, HOW IS THAT ALLOCATED? IS THAT ALLOCATED BASED ON THE POPULATION OF DIFFERENT COUNTIES IN THE STATE? OR IT, IT SEEMS LIKE, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THAT FUNDING WORKS.
IF YOU COULD SHOW THAT YOU HAVE ANOTHER 5,000 SENIOR SENIORS THAT NEED TO BE SERVED, WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO GET MORE MONEY? OR IS IT SOMEHOW HAPPEN WITH SOMEONE? MARK, MAYBE THE BEST QUALIFIED? WELL, I CERTAINLY THINK JEANETTE COULD PROBABLY ADD TO IT.
UM, BUT ESSENTIALLY THOSE THAT FUNDING, UM, IS, UM, FACILITATED THROUGH THE AAAS.
UM, AND SO THEY'RE ACTUALLY THE, THE ONES THAT DETERMINE THE ALLOCATION FOR, UH, VARIOUS, UH, FUNDING PROJECTS.
THAT, AND THE, AND THE, AND THAT, THAT'S IN THE SHORT ANSWER TO THE QUESTION.
UM, WE DON'T DETERMINE THAT OUR, UM, OURS IS ON A, YOU KNOW, OUR REIMBURSEMENT IS ON A PER UNIT CAPITAL AND, UH, UM, CAPITAL.
AND SO BASED ON, ON THE NUMBER OF UNITS WE PROVIDE THROUGHOUT DALLAS COUNTY, UH, WE RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR THOSE CLIENTS THAT WE SERVE.
BUT THE ALLOCATION IS DETERMINED BY THE AAAS.
DO YOU WANNA ADD TO THAT? YEAH, I THINK WE'VE RUN OUTTA TIME.
WE REALLY APPRECIATE YOU ALL OF YOU BEING HERE AND SHARING THIS INFORMATION WITH US.
UH, AND WE'LL, UH, UNDOUBTEDLY HAVE YOU BACK AGAIN, PERIODICALLY JUST TO KEEP US UP TO DATE WITH WHAT'S GOING ON.
AND, UH, WE APPRECIATE YOUR RESPONSIVENESS ON THIS.
WELL, THANK YOU FOR HAVING US, UH, MR. CHAIRMAN AND, AND THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR, UH, PARTNERSHIP, YOUR COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP, AND TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT CONTINUE TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OUR OLDER ADULTS.
[01:00:01]
GREAT PRESENTATION.UM, SO THE FIRST THING I'M GOING TO SAY IS REGARDING THE QUESTION ABOUT FUNDING FOR THE BRI MEAL PROGRAM, DEVELOP COUNTY ADMINISTRATORS, IT DOES
IT GOES TO STATES AGING, AND THEN IT'S ALLOCATED TO THE LOCAL AREA AGENCIES ON AGING, USING A FORMULA BASIS, UH, WHICH IS BASICALLY KIND A POPULATION ESTABLISHMENT.
SO THE, THE CAP LEVELS AT THE FEDERAL AND THEN IT'S ALLOCATED THROUGH THE STATES AND THE LOCAL AREA AGENCY BY AGENTS AGING AS A FORMULA.
WITHIN THAT, OF COURSE, THE AREA AGENTS ON AGING ADMINISTERS, UH, WORKS CLOSELY WITH BOTH THE DELIVERY AND A CONGREGATE PROGRAM.
SO THEY HAVE SOME ROOM, POTENTIALLY ANY ALLOCATIONS ON THAT SIDE OF IT.
BUT THE CAP LEVEL THAT COMES DOWN FOR OUR REGION THROUGH THE AAA IS COMING AWAY FROM THE TOP AND IS BASED ON FORMULA.
KIND OF LIKE CDBG, AS A FORMULA.
A LOT OF OUR FEDERAL GRANTS ARE FORMULA BASED.
SO THIS IS A LITTLE BIT OF A PRIMER ON THAT.
I CAN'T GET INTO ALL THE DETAILS, BUT THAT'S JUST THE GENERAL EXPLANATION.
I THINK PARTIALLY ADDRESSES THE QUESTION AREA.
IT IS THE AREA, YEAH, THAT'S A DEFINED UM, COMPONENT, RIGHT? WE WERE HERE LAST MONTH, WE HAVE ONE, UM, ALL REGION, AN AREA AGENCY.
OURS IS ADMINISTERED BY COMMUNITY COUNCIL, BUT WITHIN THAT EXISTS THE AREA AGENCY.
SO JUST A LITTLE BIT OF BACKGROUND THERE.
SO, AND UH, I'M SITTING NEXT TO A PERSON WHO KNOWS MORE ABOUT THIS STUFF THAN I DO.
SO, UH, NEXT UP, UM, REALLY EXCITED TO GO TO INTRODUCE YOU TO OUR AGING FRIENDLY OFFICER, UM, TABITHA TAYLOR WHO JOINING US TODAY, SHE'S LIKE BRAND SPAN AND NEW IN THE CITY AND SHE COULDN'T EVEN BE HERE ON TIME, BUT SHE STILL HAD TRAINING OBLIGATIONS,
UM, SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE HER HERE.
UM, SO I DO HAVE TAB WITH THIS BIO.
I'LL GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT IT, BUT THEN, OKAY, GO EASY ON IT.
I'LL LET YOU ASK YOUR QUESTIONS, LIKE YOU'LL HAVE TO BE NICE BRAND NEW.
I MEET HER TO COME BACK TOMORROW.
SO TABS JOINING US FROM AUSTIN.
UM, SHE WAS THE AGE-FRIENDLY COORDINATOR OVER THERE.
REALLY HELPED TO LEAD AND INITIATE THEIR WORK, UH, TO BECOME AN AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY, OF COURSE.
UM, AND CONVERSING WITH TABITHA.
SHE KNOWS THE THINGS LIKE WHEN YOU REFERENCE, UH, A INDIVIDUAL STAFFER AT A A RP, SHE KNOWS THAT SHE'S BEEN INVOLVED IN SO MANY DIFFERENT COALITIONS.
UM, SHE'S BEEN INVOLVED IN THE, UH, SENIOR TASK FORCE IN TRAVIS COUNTY.
UM, SHE HELPED TO MANAGE, UH, SHE SERVED ON COMMITTEES WITH THE, UM, AGING ADVISORY COUNCIL, THE CAPILLARY COUNCIL ON GOVERNMENTS, UM, END OF LIFE ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR ST.
DAVID'S FOUNDATION, UM, AUSTIN AGING SERVICES, UH, UT INTER INTERGENERATIONAL DAY CENTER ADVISORY COUNCIL, AUSTIN SOCIAL INCLUSION TASK FORCE.
SO SHE HAS A GREAT WEALTH OF HISTORY IN TERMS OF DOING WORK WITH OLDER ADULTS AND SPECIFICALLY RELATED TO OLDER ADULTS AND AGING FRIENDLY WORK.
UM, SO SHE HAS HER BACHELOR'S AND HER MASTER'S DEGREE.
SHE'S GOT PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS, LEAN SIX SIGMA.
I MEAN, SHE'S JUST GOT IT ALL OVER HERE.
WE'RE SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE HER.
UM, BUT I THINK THAT FUNDAMENTALLY AT HER CORE HABITAT IS A PUBLIC HEALTH LEADER AND A PUBLIC WELFARE LEADER, AND SHE IS HERE TO REALLY PROMOTE QUALITY OF LIFE AND STANDARD OF LIVING FOR PEOPLE OF ALL ASIANS AND ESPECIALLY OUR OLDER ADULT COMMUNITY.
SO REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE TABITHA JOIN US FOR THIS ROLE WITH HER CALLING OUR TODAY FRIENDLY OFFICER.
UM, AND AS WE MOVE INTO THAT, MAYBE JUST REITERATE A LITTLE BIT ABOUT KIND OF WHAT THAT MEANS.
UM, SO WHEN WE CREATED THE H HR OFFICER, UM, IT WAS KNOW SOMETHING THAT WAS REALLY, UH, SUPPORTED BY THE WORK CONSUMER AFFAIRS COMMISSION, OF COURSE, UM, TO DRIVE OUR ABILITY TO HAVE A MORE COMPREHENSIVE OVERSIGHT AND STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP FOR OLDER ADULT PROGRAMS ACROSS THE CITY.
UM, AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE HAD GUESTS FROM VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS WHO COME AND PRESENT AND THEY DO GREAT WORK.
PARK SAYS GREAT WORK, AND MY DOES GREAT WORK IN SO MANY DEPARTMENTS DO GREAT WORK ON PROGRAMS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY FOR OLDER ADULTS OR THAT MAY NOT SPECIFICALLY EXCLUSIVELY FOR ADULTS, BUT PRETTY MUCH MOSTLY FAVOR OLDER ADULTS IN LIFE, LIKE A HEALTHY HOME CARE PROGRAM.
UM, BUT WHAT WE'VE REALLY IDENTIFIED IS ACTUALLY REALLY MAKE PROGRESS
[01:05:01]
IN OUR AGING WORK.WE NEED TO BRING THIS STUFF TOGETHER AND HAVE A MUCH STRONGER TREAT LIVES THAT APPLIED.
AND SO USING THE MODEL LIKE OUR EQUITY OFFICER IN THE OFFICE OF EQUITY AND INCLUSION, FOR EXAMPLE, OR OUR FOREIGN COMMUNITIES OFFICER, WHICH HAS REALLY HELPED TO KIND OF BRING, REPEATED AND ENFORCE ALIGNMENT ACROSS ALL 43 CITY DEPARTMENTS.
UM, WE'RE KIND OF REPLICATING THAT, MIGRATING NAMES FROM THE OFFICE.
SHE'S GONNA WORK WITH OUR CREW HERE, PROVIDE, UM, SUPPORT AND LEADERSHIP.
UH, SHE'S GONNA BE ABLE TO TRACK DOWN ALL THOSE OTHER DEPARTMENTS AND HAVE CONVERSATIONS AND UNDERSTAND WHAT'S GOING ON AND HELP FOR HERSELF AND OUR TEAM TO BE THERE AND INVOLVED IN CONVERSATIONS RELATED TO CERTAIN OLDER ADULTS SO THAT THEY CAN PROVIDE THEIR STRATEGIC EXPERTISE AND KNOWLEDGE, UM, WHEN IT COMES TO DEVELOPING PROGRAMS AND ALLOCATING PROGRAMS. UM, OF COURSE ONE OF THE EARLY THINGS SHE'LL BE DOING, UM, IS AS WE ARE ALSO IN THE PROCESS OF FINALIZING THAT STRATEGIC PLANNING CONSULTANT, SHE'LL BE WORKING CLOSELY ON THAT PROJECT WITH THE STRATEGIC PLANNING CONSULTANT, HELPING TO KIND OF GET THAT, UM, NEEDS ASSESSMENT AND THINKING ABOUT, YOU KNOW, HOW WE REALLY THINK IT ARE REALLY KIND OF TOUGH, HOW BUDGET LEADERS, HOW DO WE REALLY THINK ABOUT BEING THE MOST EFFECTIVE AND IMPACTFUL WITH OUR SENIOR WORK.
UM, SHE CAN, OF COURSE, WE ALWAYS HEAR IN EVERY MEETING OR ALWAYS CONVERSATION OR COMMENT ABOUT IMPROVING OUTREACH FOR OLDER ADULTS AND ALL OF THAT.
SO I THINK, YOU KNOW, TIME, UH, HOW CAN DO A LOT OF LISTENING AND HELP US TO REALLY THINK ABOUT THAT AND MAYBE HELP TO DEVELOP STRATEGIES AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW WE AS A DEPARTMENT, HOW THE CITY AS A WHOLE CAN START TO THINK AND IMPROVE IN THOSE AREAS.
UM, SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE HER HERE.
AND, UM, I DON'T WANNA PUT ON THE SLOT TOO MUCH, BUT I DO WANT TO GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO WANNA JUST STATE THE OPENING WORDS, SAY SOMETHING TO OUR COMMISSION.
THESE ARE WONDERFUL COMMISSIONERS.
AND THEN WE HAVE A COUPLE HERE ONLINE, YOU CAN SEE THEIR LOVELY FACES BECAUSE, UH, VISIBLE CAMERA VIDEO IS ONE OF THE RECORDINGS TO BE
SO THEY KEEP THEIR CAMERAS ON AND THEY'RE ALWAYS THERE FOR US.
UM, SO IF YOU WANNA TAKE A MOMENT AND THEN OF COURSE YOU CAN OPEN IT UP IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY GENERAL QUESTIONS.
BUT LIKE I SAID, NOTHING TOO INTENSIVE.
I, YEAH, ABSOLUTELY, ABSOLUTELY.
I WANNA MAKE SURE THAT EVERYONE CAN SEE ME WOULD BE BETTER.
PROBABLY BETTER ON THIS END SO PEOPLE ON SCREEN.
ALRIGHT, WELL ONCE AGAIN, GOOD AFTERNOON COMMISSIONER.
IT'S AN HONOR AND PRIVILEGE TO BE HERE WITH YOU ALL TODAY.
UM, AS JESSICA ALREADY SHARED, I, UM, HAD A, I'M A FORTUNATE THAT HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE AS THE CITY OF AUSTIN IN RURAL AIDS FROM PROGRAM COORDINATOR.
UM, IT ALLOWED ME TO MANAGE THEIR AGE REACTION PLAN.
UM, A VERY ROBUST PLAN THAT I HAVE NOW OPPORTUNITIES TO MANAGE NOW FOR THE CITY OF DALLAS.
UM, I'M EXCITED TO BRING MY WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE, UM, AND ALSO TO LEARN FROM EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU.
UM, ALTHOUGH I'VE DONE THE WORK, I UNDERSTAND A NEW CITY, AND THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE SEE FROM CITY TO CITY AS IT RELATES TO OLDER ADULTS, UM, CONCERNS.
SO THEN THERE'S SOME BE SOME DIFFERENCES THAT AS WE WORKED WITH MANY DIVERSE POPULATIONS.
AND SO WITH THAT SAID, UM, DECIDED TO LEARN MORE ABOUT YOU FROM YOUR VARIOUS DISTRICTS TO HEAR WHAT YOUR NEEDS ARE, UM, TO HEAR WHAT WE'VE DONE WELL AND WHERE THE GAPS MAY LIE.
UM, THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE SEE AS IT RELATES TO THAT, BUT THEN IT'S ALSO, UM, THE PIECE, THAT QUALITATIVE PIECE WHERE WE ACTUALLY NEED TO GO IN AND LISTEN, PUT OUR EARS TO THE GROUND AND HEAR WHAT'S HAPPENING, AND THEN ALSO RESPOND.
UM, THAT WAS ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT VERY EARLY ON, UM, DURING MY INTERVIEW PROCESS, WAS WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE HEAR THERE'S A CONCERN? HOW DO WE RESPOND? AND THEN WHAT DO WE DO TO FOLLOW UP? AND WE UNDERSTAND THAT SOMETIMES WE'RE UNDER BUDGET CONSTRAINTS, BUT YOU ALL DESERVE AN ANSWER.
I'M HAPPY TO ONCE AGAIN, BRING MY WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE, UM, AS I HAVE WITH A A RP.
I'VE WORKED WITH THEM VERY CLOSELY AS I'VE BEEN MANAGING THE ACTION PLAN DOWN IN AUSTIN.
AND SO I'M HAPPY TO JUST LOOK TO SEE WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR THE CITY OF DALLAS AND TO BE SUPPORT FOR YOU ALL.
AND SO, UM, I'M SURE YOU'LL HAVE MY CONTACT INFORMATION AT SOME POINT, AND I'M SURE I'LL HEAR CONFUSING EVERY ONE OF YOU.
BUT ONCE AGAIN, IT'S AN HONOR AND A PRIVILEGE TO SERVE THIS CAPACITY.
AND, UM, LET ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME.
SO, UM, DEBBIE REFERENCED IT A LITTLE BIT AND THAT'S WHY I HAD ASKED OUR PINTEREST IF THEY HAD TURNED ANYBODY AWAY.
SO SOME OF US LEARNING, AND IF YOU WANNA PICK UP ON THIS, PETER, THAT PEOPLE SAY TO US, WE DON'T
[01:10:01]
KNOW ABOUT YOU, OR WE DIDN'T KNOW ALL THIS WAS AVAILABLE TO US.IS THIS UNIQUE TO THE CITY OF DALLAS OR DID YOU ENCOUNTER THAT IN MOST? NO.
SO WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT, UM, LIVABLE COMMUNITY IS WHAT THE UMBRELLA WE ARE UNDER WITH AGE VALLEY COMMUNITIES, AND YOU LOOK AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL WITH A A RP, UM, WE FIND THAT THESE PROGRAMS STILL ARE RELATIVELY NEW.
UM, WE'VE ALWAYS HAVE SOME LIVABLE BECAUSE SENIOR PROGRAMMING, WE'RE KIND OF DOING AWAY WITH THAT, THAT PHRASE, AND WE'RE UTILIZING AGING OR OLDER ADULTS, UM, THAT THOSE PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN ALREADY IN EXISTENCE.
UM, BUT WHEN WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITIES, PEOPLE ARE NOT SO MUCH FAMILIAR WITH THAT.
AND SO, UM, AS WE'RE GOING TO, WE'RE THINKING OF HOW STRATEGIES FOR OUTREACH, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE KEEP TO THE FOREFRONT OF OUR MIND ON HOW DO WE EDUCATE.
UM, BECAUSE AT SOME POINT, IF PEOPLE WANNA CLUMP THE CITY, THE COUNTY TOGETHER, THEY MAY NOT UNDERSTAND ABOUT RESTRICTIONS AND BUDGETS.
AND IT'S UP TO US TO ENSURE THAT THAT OUTREACH THAT WE DO WILL EDUCATE OUR ADULT COMMUNITY.
AND THEN WE'RE LIKE HEAVILY ON OUR ULTIMATE MOST IMPORTANT STAKEHOLDERS, WHICH IS OUR AGING ADULTS, TO SHARE THAT WITH YOUR FRIENDS, WITH YOUR FAMILY, UM, AND WITH THOSE WHO MAY NOT CONSIDER THEMSELVES, UM, AN OLDER ADULT AFTER YET BECAUSE EVERYBODY'S AGING.
RIGHT? AND SO, UM, I KNOW WE TEND TO SERVICE INDIVIDUALS, UH, AGE 50 YEARS AND OLDER IN SOME COMMUNITIES, 60 YEARS AND OLDER, BUT AT SOME POINT WE WILL RELY HEAVILY ON OUR STAKEHOLDERS TO SHARE THE INFORMATION, UM, THAT WAS SHARED WITH YOU ALL.
CAN I GET RIGHT, PETER? I WOULD YOU WANNA ADD TO THAT? I MEAN, YOU SAID THERE WAS A PATTERN DEVELOPING IN WHAT WE'RE HEARING THAT THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT CE SERVICES ARE.
WELL, JUST BASED ON THE VOLUMES OF PEOPLE WE SERVE RELATIVE TO THE POPULATION THAT'S OUT THERE, WE KNOW WE'RE PROBABLY SERVING FEWER THAN COLLECTIVELY WITH ALL THE STUDENT PROGRAMS. WE PROBABLY WE'RE REACHING LESS THAN 10% OF THE, OF THE SENIORS.
AND WE KNOW THAT 30, 25% OF THESE ARE LIVING AT THE POVERTY LEVEL OF LAW.
SO THERE, THERE HAS TO BE A LOT MORE PEOPLE AND YES, WE NEED THAN ARE SHOWING UP TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF PROGRAMS. AND, AND THE OTHER THING IS THAT SOME OF THE PROGRAMS, WHICH ARE GREAT, THEY THEY TEND TO BE, UH, USED BY PEOPLE WHO ECONOMICALLY DON'T MEAN IT, UH, AS AS MUCH, BUT STILL THEY CAN SUFFER FROM ISOLATION AND ALL THAT.
SO IT'S IMPORTANT TO HAVE A, A DIVERSE THING, BUT THEY CLEARLY, WE DON'T HAVE, WE DON'T HAVE A WAY TO COMMUNICATE WHAT'S AVAILABLE TO PEOPLE IN A WAY THAT'S REGIONAL, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO NEED IT THE MOST.
AND THEY DON'T SHOW UP TO CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS OR SHOW UP, YOU KNOW, THEY'RE, THEY'RE OUT THERE AND WE KNOW THERE'S A BIGGER NEED AND IT'S SOMEHOW WE NEED TO FIGURE THAT OUT.
THE OTHER IS THAT I'M REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE IT HERE IN PART BECAUSE I THINK THE CITY DEPARTMENTS HAVE ALL BEEN DOING GOOD THINGS WHERE PEOPLE ARE CONCERNED, BUT THEY'RE ALL IN SILOS.
AND SO I NEED TO BREAK DOWN THE SILOS AND HAVE A CENTRAL REPOSITORY OF INFORMATION ABOUT WHAT IS AVAILABLE.
AND THAT DOESN'T EXIST TODAY, BUT IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT, NOT AVAILABLE, BUT WHAT IS ACTUALLY BEING USED.
AND THEN ONE OF THE REASON I ASKED THE QUESTION ABOUT THE OTHERS, YES.
UH, WITH, UH, PDHH, THE REST MM-HMM.
THAT, AND THAT, THAT'S LONG LINE OF MY QUESTION OR JESSICA, JUST TO MAKE SURE I UNDERSTAND THE ROLE OR THAT WE COLLECTIVELY UNDERSTANDABLE, MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CITY SERVICES ARE COORDINATED IS GREAT, BUT WILL THAT ENCOMPASS THE ACCOUNT SERVICES, ALL OF THESE, SO ENCOMPASS, MAYBE NOT, BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT WE CAN'T WORK TO BUILD BETTER RELATIONSHIPS AND BETTER PARTNERSHIPS.
SO I THINK, YOU KNOW, I'M A LITTLE, SOMETIMES MAYBE OVERLY OPTIMISTIC WITH THE CAPACITY OF DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND THE PARTNERS AND NONPROFITS AND WHATNOT TO JUST AGREE TO WORK TOGETHER IN CERTAIN WAY.
UM, AND IT DOES TAKE A LOT OF STRATEGIC FOCUS AND DEDICATION AND A CLEAR DIRECTIVE.
AND SO HAVING SOMEBODY AT LEAST AT THE CITY LEVEL IN A LEADERSHIP AIR POSITION THAT CAN KIND OF SPEAK TO THAT HOLISTICALLY, I MEAN, THAT COULD BE ONE OF THE THINGS THAT CAN HELP US REALLY, YOU KNOW, BREAK DOWN WHATEVER THE BARRIERS ARE AND DO A BETTER JOB.
BUT I WOULD SAY EVEN OUR NEW CITY MANAGER, UM, AND YOU KNOW, WE'RE THAT THAT'S THE DIRECTIVE WE'RE HEARING ALL OVER THE PLACE.
WE NEED TO COLLABORATE BETTER INTERNALLY AND EXTERNALLY.
THAT WAS ONE THING THAT STRUCK ME ABOUT THE PATIENT BY COUNTY LOT INDIVIDUALS
[01:15:01]
SERVED BY THAT.YOU SAY THAT'S THEIR ONLY MEAL OF THE DAY.
LAST MONTH WE HEARD FROM DNA MM-HMM.
THE MEALS ON WHEELS, THAT'S THEIR ONLY, WHY IS IT, WHY IS THAT THEIR ONLY MEAL? SO THOSE TAKE, THOSE ARE THE TWO PIECES OF THE, OF THE FEED OF THE MEALS PROGRAM THAT COMES THROUGH AAA, RIGHT? UM, IT'S, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THIS SIDE OF DELIVERY AND THEN THERE'S THE CONGREGATE SIDE OF IT.
UM, BUT YEAH, THAT STORY, AND, YOU KNOW, THAT STORY EVEN EXTENDS INTO, UM, INTO OUR YOUNG FOLKS, LIKE HOW MANY TIMES WE HEAR THAT SOME KIDS, YOU KNOW, THEY DON'T, THEIR LAST MEAL THAT THEY GET IS WHEN THEY GO HOME RIGHT FROM SCHOOL AND THAT'S IT.
SO THERE'S, THERE'S A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY FOR DISCUSSION AND TRYING TO FIGURE THAT OUT.
AND I KNOW THAT THIS COMMISSION HAS EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN THINKING ABOUT FOOD SECURITY FOR OLDER ADULTS, UM, AS AN AREA OF, OF LOOKING TO.
AND I THINK THAT, THAT IN OUR DEPARTMENT, THAT DEFINITELY ALIGNS WITH OUR OWN KIND OF INTERNALLY DETERMINED STRATEGIES OF WHAT WE WANNA IMPROVE, UM, MOVING FORWARD INTO THE FUTURE FISCAL YEAR.
SO, UM, THERE'S A LOT TO BE DONE.
UM, BUT I THINK, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T, WE DON'T ENCOMPASS THE, THE COUNTY PER SE IN THAT WAY, BUT WE CAN WORK WITH THEM AND THEN, YOU KNOW, WE CAN EVEN TRY TO DO OUR BEST TO WORK WITH THE OTHER COUNTIES THAT WE HAVE, UH, PIECES OF OUR CITY.
UH, WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT DETON COUNTY, WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT IN COLLIN COUNTY AND SEE WHAT WE CAN DO THERE AS WELL.
BUT, UH, YEAH, THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION.
IT'S REALLY, REALLY SAD, COMPARABLE THAT FOR SOME PEOPLE IT IS THEIR ONLY MEAL OF THE DAY, AND THAT'S NOT PORTION.
UM, I KNOW AUSTIN HAS A SIZABLE LGBT SENIOR COMMUNITY.
HOW FAMILIAR ARE YOU WITH WORKING WITH ENGAGED AND SENIORS? THAT'S JUST PART OF THE QUESTION.
THE OTHER PART OF THE QUESTION, DURING YOUR INTERVIEW PROCESS, DID THEY DISCUSS WITH YOU THAT THE SENIORS THAT GAINED TRANS SENIORS HERE IN DALLAS FEEL OUTSIDE OF THE AREAS OF BEING MADE AWARE OF RESOURCES AVAILABLE? AND DO YOU HAVE ANY PLANS TO ADDRESS THAT AND CORRECT THAT? THANK YOU.
OKAY, SO WE'RE GONNA MAKE SURE WE GOT UP.
SO FOR THE FIRST PART OF YOUR QUESTION, YES, I'LL ANSWER THE QUESTION AS YES.
UM, SO WE WORK VERY CLOSELY, UM, WITH OUR, UM, ASIAN POPULATIONS WHO, UM, IDENTIFY, UM, UH, WE YOU LIKE TO MEET SOME PRIDE.
UM, ALTHOUGH YOU KNOW THAT THAT IS NOT ALL ENCOMPASSING OF EVERYONE, UM, WITHIN THAT, THAT PARTICULAR, UM, GROUP.
AND SO WITH THAT SAID, WE HAD SEVERAL COMMISSIONERS, UM, WHO IDENTIFIED, UM, AS THE PART OF THAT COMMUNITY, IF I WORKED VERY CLOSELY WITH THEM.
UM, DURING THE PRIDE MONTH, WE PUT ON SPECIAL EVENTS FOR OUR AGING POPULATION JUST SO THAT WE CAN CREATE A SAFE SPACE.
UM, IN ADDITION TO THAT, WE HAVE ALSO WORKED VERY CLOSELY WITH THE SAGE POPULATION.
I DON'T KNOW IF YOU GUYS ARE FAMILIAR WITH SAGE.
SO SAGE, WE, UM, HELPED, UM, ONE OF OUR AGING COMMUNITIES, UM, TO ACTUALLY GET THAT CREDENTIAL, I BELIEVE.
SO WE'RE VERY CLOSE WITH HIM ON THAT.
AND LIKE I SAID, ONE OF OUR COMMISSIONER, HE LED THE WAY ON THAT, SO WE'RE VERY CLOSE WITH HIM ON THAT AS WELL.
UM, AS IT RELATES TO MY INTERVIEW, WE REALLY DISCUSSED MORE OF ENSURING THAT WE, UM, HEARD THE NEEDS OF THE COMMUNITY MORE OR LESS JUST ONE PARTICULAR CONCERN.
UM, SO WITH THAT SAID, I HAVE EXPERIENCE, BUT NO, IN MY INTERVIEW WE DID NOT JUST SINGLE, UM, THOSE INDIVIDUALS OUT, UM, BY THEMSELVES.
SO HOLISTICALLY, YES, WE TALKED ABOUT MANY DIFFERENT ISSUES THAT WE, UH, HAVE FACED WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY, UM, DIFFERENT AREAS IN WHICH, UM, OLDER ADULTS MAY FEEL MARGINALIZED, UM, OR THAT THEY HAVE NOT BEEN BROUGHT TO THE TABLE.
UM, AND THEN AS, AS IT RELATES TO MY PLANS, UM, I SHARED WITH, UM, JESSICA THAT FOR THE FIRST 90 DAYS I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU ALL.
UM, OF COURSE I HAVE MY OWN THOUGHTS, UM, ABOUT WHAT SHOULD BE DONE, WHAT COULD BE DONE.
AND THERE'S A LOT OF, UM, CROSS, UM, INFORMATION AND CONCERNS AS IT RELATES TO AUSTIN THAT WE SEE ALL ACROSS THE BOARD.
I'M ON A NATIONAL CALL PRETTY MUCH EVERY OTHER MONTH WITH A RP, AND IT'S THE SAME CONCERN THAT WE HEAR OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
SO THERE'S A GROUP OF CONCERNS THAT I KNOW THAT'S TO BE CONSISTENT, UM, PRETTY MUCH EVERY STATE AND EVERY CITY.
BUT THEN THERE'S ALSO VERY UNIQUE CONCERNS AND THAT'S WHAT I'M RESPECTING YOU ALL TO SHARE WITH ME.
SO THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT UP.
UM, AND I HOPE TO WORK WITH YOU VERY CLOSELY, UM, TO MAKE SURE THAT WE PROVIDE MORE OUTREACH AND ALSO THAT EVERYONE'S FEELING, UM, INCLUDING THAT WE HAVE A MORE EQUITABLE, UM, OUTREACH PLAN.
WE ARE IN THE PROCESS NOW, UH, EACH DISTRICT AND HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH SENIORS IN OUR DISTRICT AND MY PARTICULAR DISTRICT, DISTRICT THREE SCHEDULED FOR SEPTEMBER.
AND WE'RE IN THE PROCESS OF PLANNING NOW.
AND I HAVE AN UPCOMING MEETING WITH MY COUNCIL PERSON.
IT'S GONNA BE OUR SECOND PLANNING
[01:20:01]
MEETING.AND I'D LOVE FOR YOU TO JOIN US IF YOU ARE, I THINK YOU ARE ON BOARD, AND IF YOU'RE READY TO HIT THE GROUND RUNNING, I'D LIKE TO, YOU KNOW, BE IN CONVERSATION WITH YOU SO THAT YOU CAN GET PART OF THAT MEETING.
WELL, I'LL SAY SEND THE INFORMATION RIGHT WAY AND I'LL TALK TO JESSICA.
UM, I'M SOON FIGURING OUT HOW HER EMAILS GLASS, SO DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT.
SEND HER AWAY AND GOT ALL THESE ISSUES.
YOU GOT, YOU GOT BARRAGE OF EMAILS HEADED FOR YOU SOON.
BUT YEAH, DEFINITELY SHE'LL BE INVOLVED WITH THE PLANNING.
ALL OF THESE, YOU KNOW, ALL OF THIS.
I KNOW
SO HOW WORKING WITH THESE GUYS, YOU ARE A LUCKY PERSON.
QUESTION, ARE YOU SPEAKING ON EMAIL? BECAUSE, UM, MY, UM, HAVE CARD AND I THINK, UH, ME, MR. HAR BEEN WORKING ON THEM, SOMEBODY RESPONSIBLE, BUT GETTING THE EMAIL TOGETHER AND I HAVE MY EMAIL SET UP OF THE CITY OF DALLAS OR WHATEVER THIS, WHATEVER.
I THINK IT'S REALLY, UM, CRUCIAL US TO HAVE THEM BECAUSE WE GO OUT TO DIFFERENT PLACES.
I DON'T EVEN KNOW THEY'RE, AND I CAN'T REMEMBER.
SO I DO NEED TO HAVE THE CARDS SO NICE FOR THE, OUR CARDS.
OH MY GOSH, I WISH I THE ANSWER THAT QUESTION.
UM, SO WHAT I KNOW IS THAT THEY ARE DOING THIS KIND OF STRATEGIC COMMISSION BY COMMISSION UPDATING OF THE TYPE OF ACCOUNT YOU HAVE AND THAT IT'S DALLAS CITY HALL OR DALLAS GO, RIGHT.
SO, UM, WHAT, THIS MAY SEEM KIND OF OBNOXIOUS, BUT IT'S IN THE LONG RUN, IT IS HELPFUL.
YOU GUYS USED TO BE ON LIKE THESE TEMPORARY APPOINTING COUNTS THAT WE WOULD HAVE TO LIKE REACTIVATE WHAT EVERY SIX MONTHS, EVERY 90 DAYS.
SO ALL THE, THE TESTS THAT WE'D HAVE TO LIKE TRACK YOU AND UPDATE YOU EVERY 90 DAYS AND LIKE, THAT'S A LOT.
UM, SO THEY CREATED A NEW ACCOUNT TYPE IN THE SYSTEM FOR COMMISSIONERS AND BOARD MEMBERS SO THAT WE DON'T HAVE TO HAVE YOU IN THAT WAY, BUT I GUESS IT'S JUST THEY HAVE TO KIND OF GO GROUP BY GROUP.
SO I THINK THEY'RE WORKING ON THIS GROUP NOW, AREN'T THEY? SO ALL THE SECURITY ACCESS FORMS WERE SUBMITTED, UH, AT THE END OF MAY.
FOR MEMBERS, UH, NOT THE NEW MEMBERS YET, BUT THE, THE PREVIOUS MEMBERS AND OKAY.
SO, UM, IT IS TAKING SOME TIME, BUT, UH, SHANI WESTON, WHO'S THE MANAGER OF COMMISSION BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS, UH, IS WORKING ON SECURING THAT EMAIL ADDRESS FOR EVERYBODY.
AND ONCE WE HAVE THAT EMAIL, WE CAN THEN REQUEST THOSE, UM, BUSINESS CARDS WITH YOUR CITY.
THE BUSINESS CARDS DOESN'T TAKE NEARLY AS LONG AS THE EMAIL DOES.
THAT'S JUST LIKE A FEW DAYS, LIKE AS SOON AS WE GET THAT.
IT'S LIKE WE CAN'T DO THE CARDS, SO WE HAVE THE EMAILS, WE CAN'T DO THE EMAILS UNTIL THIS IS WHATEVER THAT IS, IT'S DONE.
I THINK WE'RE GONNA BE GETTING PHONES AS WELL.
SECRETARY ALSO WELCOME THAT RECOMMENDATION AND FEEDBACK, VIRTUAL BUSINESS CARDS BECAUSE ON THE LAST COMMISSION THAT'S WHAT THEY WERE WORKING TOWARDS VIRTUAL, SO PROBABLY NOT.
UM, I, WE HAVE HARD, WE'VE HAD HARD COPIES.
UM, I THINK MAYBE VIRTUAL BUSINESS CARDS, WHICH MIGHT BE AN OPTION.
OR MAYBE YOU COULD HAVE A COMBINATION.
I DON'T KNOW A LOT ABOUT THAT TOO MUCH.
IS THAT A POSITIVE RESPONSE TO THAT JUST YET? SO, WELL, I KNOW YOU'RE COMING OVER FROM ENVIRONMENTAL, SHE'S COMING FROM ENVIRONMENTAL UNDERSTAND PERSPECTIVE.
YEAH, SO I, I DON'T, I'M NOT AWARE IF THAT IS SOMETHING THAT IS APPLYING SPECIFICALLY TO THE INFORMATION.
I'M NOT GONNA BE AWARE OF THAT.
AND THE NEXT QUESTION I WANTED TO ASK THE COMMITTEE, I ATTENDED THE DALLAS COUNTY,
[01:25:01]
UH, FAIR THAT THEY HAD HEALTH FAIR, IT WAS OVER THERE ON SIMMONS AND WE PICK UP A LOT OF BROCHURES FOR OUR SENIORS AND SO FORTH, PASS OUT LIKE THEY WERE DOING THE WEATHERIZATION THAT IT'S NOT A, IT'S NOT A LOAN PROGRAM WHERE YOU GET THIS ASSISTANCE AND WHAT UNDERSTOOD IT DIDN'T GO ACCORDING TO YOUR SALARY.I'M NOT SURE, BUT I PICK UP THESE BROCHURE, I CAN ALWAYS SEND YOU A COPY OF THE BROCHURES BECAUSE I SENT THE THAT TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD AND THOSE DAYS, IF YOU'D MIND, OH, OR IF THAT WOULD JUST BE TOO MUCH EMAIL, YOU KNOW, IN OUR DISTRICT, YOU KNOW, SO WHATEVER I GET FROM HERE, I TURN IT OVER TO DISTRICT 11 AND THEY PUT IT IN THE NEWSLETTER.
DO SHORT OPERATE AIR DISTRICT.
I DON'T KNOW IF HAVE, THERE ARE OTHER PROGRAMS THAT DO THAT AS WELL.
UM, LET, LET'S, LET'S MOVE ON.
THANK, UH, YOU, YOU'LL, YOU'LL, NATALIE, HEAR FROM A LOT OF THESE PEOPLE.
THANKS FOR THE UPDATE ON THAT.
WELL NOW WE'RE GONNA MOVE TO AMERICA, LET HER DO THE UPDATES FOR SENIOR SERVICES.
SO I'M HERE WITH THE SENIOR SERVICES AND AS I WANNA BE RESPECTFUL OF EVERYBODY'S TIME, AND IN FACT THE FACT THAT I DON'T HAVE TOO MANY UPDATES TODAY, I WILL BE FREE.
UM, REGARDING, AS YOU ASKED ABOUT ANY MOTION NOTICES TO THE, UM, COMMISSIONERS ABOUT EVENTS, YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO SHARE THEM WITH US AND WE WILL DISTRIBUTE IT TO ALL THE COMMISSIONERS.
THAT WAY WE ALSO AVOID ANY KIND OF WALKING FORUMS WITH EMAILS COMING BACK AND FORTH.
UM, NOW REGARDING EVENTS COMING UP, UH, I DID WANNA MENTION THAT OUR, UH, COMMUNITY AFFAIRS ASIAN AMERICAN OUTREACH HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR JULY.
SO TODAY, AND EVEN ON THE 19TH IS NOW GOING TO BE ON JULY 17TH.
SO THAT HAS CHANGED SINCE LAST WEEK.
BUT AS MENTIONED, WE HAVE SOME LISTENING SESSIONS COMING UP.
SO NEXT ONE, UH, WILL BE IN DISTRICT 10 NEXT WEEK ON THE 25TH THAT'LL BE AT THE, UM, FOUR SCREEN LIBRARY.
AND THEN OUR AUGUST LISTENING SESSION WILL BE IN DISTRICT SEVEN, AND WE'LL BE AT THE MLPA CENTER, AND THAT'LL BE AN EVENING, UM, EVENT AFTER OUR COMMISSION MEETING ON THE 19TH OF AUGUST.
AND THEN FOR SEPTEMBER, UM, AS COMMISSIONER MITCHELL MENTIONED, WE HAVE OTHER, SO THE DISTRICT THREE, UM, AND COUPLE OF OTHER COMMISSION, UM, SENIOR LISTENING SESSIONS THAT WE'RE PLANNING ON FOR SEPTEMBER.
UM, I WANTED TO ADDRESS BRIEFLY, YOU ASKED ME LAST TIME ABOUT THE ADVANCEMENT PROGRAM AND THE NUMBERS AND THE DEGREES IN THE PERCENTAGE OF SERVICES.
UM, SO SENIORS ARE, DID REACH BACK OUT TO ME AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY'VE HAD SOME STAFF VACANCIES AND THEY ARE A BONDSMAN FOR THE C CITY OF DALLAS AREA.
UM, HAD SOME TIME OFF AND THEN THE DECISION WAS VACANT FOR THE ENTIRE MONTH OF APRIL, AND THEY ONLY HIRED A NEW PERMANENT DECISION, UH, AT THE END OF MAY.
SO THAT HAS BEEN THE COST FOR THE NUMBERS, BUT THEY'RE WORKING ON GETTING BACK ON TRACK.
NOW, AS I ALSO MENTIONED, WE USUALLY GET OUR NUMBERS BY THE 15TH, SO I DID NOT GET NEW UPDATES UNTIL ACTUALLY THIS MORNING.
SO IN AUGUST I'LL GET YOU A PROPER UPDATE ON ALL THE PROGRAMS AND THERE'S ANY QUESTIONS.
THIS IS DAVID TYSON, YOU GOT A QUESTION? OH, YOU A QUESTION, DAVID, GO AHEAD.
WELL, THIS IS SPECIFIC TO OUR SESSION, UH, NEXT, NEXT WEEK, UH, IN DISTRICT 10.
AND I WAS, I WAS GOING AROUND TO THE VARIOUS LOCATIONS.
I WENT TO THE WILLABY JOHNSON COMMUNITY CENTER AS WELL AS UP TO THE, UH, LAKE HOLLANDS COMMUNITY CENTER.
THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANY FLYERS REGARDING THE EVENT.
SO IS THERE A WAY TO GET FLYERS ON SITE AT THOSE LOCATIONS? YES, YOU CAN SHARE IT, BUT I'LL MAKE SURE THAT THOSE LOCATIONS AND ALL THE OTHER PARTS AND RECORDS WILL HAVE THOSE.
SPECIFICALLY, YOU KNOW, THE WILLIE B. JOHNSON COMMUNITY CENTER HAS A SENIOR CITIZENS, UH, YOU KNOW, UH, FACILITY THERE.
AND ONCE AGAIN, I WAS THERE LAST WEEK AND, AND THEY DON'T HAVE ANY FLYERS.
SO, UH, THE LAKE HOLS, UH, COMMUNITY RECREATION CENTER DOES NOT HAVE A, DOES NOT HAVE THE FLYERS AS WELL.
[01:30:01]
LOCATIONS I WOULD ASK THAT WE, UM, UH, AND, AND OF COURSE EVEN AT THE LIBRARY, THE, THE FOREST WING LIBRARY WHERE THE EVENT WILL TAKE PLACE THAT WE MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE FLYERS THERE.UH, SO, UH, OUR, OUR SENIORS WILL KNOW THAT THE EVENT IS TAKING PLACE NEXT WEEK.
UH,
SIMILAR RIGHT HERE FOR THE DISTRICT 10.
UH, IT'S EDITABLE SO WE CAN JUST CHANGE IT BASED ON RIGHT.
THE FEEDBACK THAT WE RECEIVED FROM THE COMMISSIONER OF THE COUNCIL.
MY QUESTION IS, IS YOUR OFFICE GETTING THOSE SLIDES OUT OR THE SITE IS POSSIBLE FOR REPRODUCING THEIR OWN? SOMETIMES WE EMAIL 'EM, LIKE WITH REC CENTERS, WE PARTNER UP, SO THEY'LL PRINT THEM OUT AND SHARE.
SOMETIMES WE'LL JUST TAKE A STEP TWO IT, SO IN THESE CASES THEY HAVEN'T PUT'EM OUT, IT'LL GO AND TAKE THAT FIRE.
HAS, UH, COUNCIL PERSON STEWART DISTRIBUTED A NOTICE TO HER MADE LIST? SHE DID IT TODAY, ACTUALLY.
UH, ONE, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I THINK EVERYBODY NEEDS TO BE COGNIZANT OF IS BETTER THAN THE NEWS AND EVERYTHING ELSE, IS THAT THE, EVERY CITY DEPARTMENT'S BEEN ASKED TO CUT THEIR BUDGET BY 6%.
UM, UH, SINCE WE'VE BEEN UNDERFUNDED FOREVER, I DON'T THINK THAT EXCUSES US FROM THAT PRESSURE IN ALL LIKELIHOOD.
UH, I THINK THERE'S ALSO PRESSURE BEING EXERTED TO, UH, ELIMINATE SOME OF THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE THAT SOME PEOPLE THINK THE COUNTY SHOULD BE DOING OR SOMEBODY ELSE SHOULD BE DOING.
AND SO I, I THINK HAVING CONVERSATION WITH YOUR COUNCIL PEOPLE SO THAT YOU, YOU KIND OF KNOW WHAT, WHAT'S GOING ON WITH ALL OF THAT, UH, IS PRETTY IMPORTANT BECAUSE IT'S, IT'S DEFINITELY THE MOOD IS TO CUT THE BUDGET.
I DO HAVE TO LEAVE, BUT BEFORE I DO, I HAVE TO TAKE
UM, SO WE DID RECEIVE PORSCHE'S MINORITY REPORT.
WE HAD CAO, YOU KNOW, JUST DOUBLE CHECK IT AND MAKE SURE THAT IT CONFORMED TO THE REQUIREMENT.
WE PACKAGED THOSE ITEMS TOGETHER, WE PROVIDED IT TO OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM HERE AT THE CITY, AND WE'LL BE DISTRIBUTING IT.
UM, I'M JUST WAITING TO KINDA GET SOME FEEDBACK ON THE PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION COUNCIL ON THIS, ON THAT.
SO I WANTED TO PROVIDE THAT UPDATE.
'CAUSE I IMAGINE SOME OF YOU MIGHT HAVE THAT QUESTION, UM, BEFORE I LEFT.
SO I'M SORRY, THAT WAS LIKE A RANDOM INSERTION.
BUT IT'S CLOSE ENOUGH WAITING ALARM.
WHEN DO YOU EXPECT TO DISTRIBUTE THAT TO ALL OF US? WE CAN SEND IT TO YOU ALL.
AND, AND IT'S PUBLIC INFORMATION, SO ONCE YOU HAVE IT, YOU CAN FORWARD IT TO YOUR COUNCIL PERSON, EVEN THOUGH THEY'LL GET IT IN THE ORDINARY COURSE OF BUSINESS.
CAN I GO, CAN WE GO? THIS IS DEBBIE AUSTIN.
I JUST WANTED TO KNOW, WHAT DO YOU INTEND TO CUT? DO WE HAVE A LIST OF WHAT, WHAT, UH, SENIOR AFFAIRS, UH, DEPARTMENTS OR PROGRAMS TRYING TO CUT OR YEAH, I DON'T THINK IT'S, I DON'T THINK IT'S, IT'S STILL GENERALISM AT THIS POINT UNTIL, I THINK AUGUST THE 11TH IS THE DATE THAT SHE WILL DELIVER THAT TO MAYOR BUDGET IN AUGUST.
BECAUSE WE CANNOT FINALIZE THE CITY'S BUDGET UNTIL WE GET CERTAIN REVENUE.
AND A LOT OF THAT STUFF DOESN'T COME UNTIL LIKE THE LAST WEEK OF JULY.
JESSICA UNDERSTAND? YES MA'AM.
UM, SOMETHING LIKE THIS DESERVES MORE THAN JUST A FEW SECONDS.
I THINK THAT ALL OF THE COMMISSIONERS, BECAUSE WE ALL REPRESENT DIFFERENT DISTRICTS, AND WE ALL REPORT BACK TO OUR COUNCIL PEOPLE WHO APPOINTED US TO REPRESENT OUR SENIORS, WE ALL NEED TO SIT DOWN, MAYBE CALL A SPECIAL MEETING AND DISCUSS WHAT WE'RE CUTTING, WHY WE'RE CUTTING IT.
'CAUSE I, WE, WE, MOST OF US DON'T EVEN HAVE AN INPUT IN THE BUDGET ANYWAY, SO I'D LIKE TO HAVE A, A CALL MEETING.
BUT AGAIN, THERE IS NO BUDGET THAT'S BEEN DELIVERED BY YOUR CITY MANAGER UNTIL AUGUST.
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I'M SAYING.
[01:35:01]
WE, WE APPROVE THE MEMO.SO WE, WE DO HAVE A VOICE, BUT I, I THINK WE NEED TO BE AWARE THAT THIS IS GOING ON AND HAVE CONVERSATIONS AND, UH, WE DON'T HAVE A MEETING IN JULY.
THE CITY BASICALLY GOES ON VACATION FOR THE MONTH OF JULY OR BIG PARTS OF IT.
AND THERE ARE NO MEETINGS, UH, DURING THE MONTH OF JULY IN THE CITY.
WE'LL PICK IT UP, WE'LL PICK IT UP IN AUGUST.
UH, I THINK FOR OUR MEETING, WE PROBABLY HAVE NEED TO HAVE A MORE DEFINITIVE DISCUSSION ABOUT SOME THESE THINGS.
BUT THE POINT BEING THAT THE CITIES, IF YOU READ THE NEWSPAPER CITY'S UNDER A LOT OF PRESSURE BECAUSE OF THE, OF THE PENSION YES.
UNDERFUNDING AND EVERYTHING ELSE THAT'S GOING ON.
AND WE'RE NOT GONNA BE IMMUNE FROM THOSE PRESSURES, UH, AS GROUPED, EVEN THOUGH WE DID PRETTY WELL IN LAST YEAR'S BUDGET.
UH, WE, WE JUST NEED TO BE AWARE OF THAT.
BUT I THINK HAVING CONVERSATIONS WITH THE INFORMATION THAT WE HAVE ABOUT HOW UNDERSERVED SENIORS ARE IS, IS AN IMPORTANT CONVERSATION TO HAVE SO THAT PEOPLE ARE RECOGNIZING THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE NOT ASKING FOR THE MOON, WE'RE ASKING FOR CATCH UP.
SO I THANK YOU AND I APPRECIATE THE FEEDBACK AND, UM, YOU, WE CAN CERTAINLY DISCUSS THAT ONCE WE DO HAVE, YOU KNOW, MORE QUICKNESS STRESS.
BUT I ALSO WANNA SAY THAT BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE CREATED THAT WE'RE ABLE TO ACTUALLY HAVE, YOU KNOW, LEADERSHIP CONSIDERING IT AS THEY'RE DEVELOPING THE BUDGET AS OPPOSED TO ONCE THE BUDGET HAS BEEN DEVELOPED, IT'S NO LONGER AN ISSUE OF HAVING TO CHANGE YOUR RECOMMENDATION.
IT'S ABLE TO BE CONSIDERED DURING A PROCESS.
SO I APPRECIATE THIS BODY'S WORK IN THAT REGARD.
SO I STEALING TAB, I'M VERY SORRY, I AM NOT TRYING TO MINIMIZE ANYTHING ABOUT THE BUDGET CONVERSATIONS.
I JUST DON'T HAVE MUCH MORE DEFINITIVELY THAT I CAN SAY AT THIS TIME.
I GUESS WE UNDERSTAND THAT TABATHA MAY NOT HAVE IT, YOU KNOW, WHAT IT AT THIS TIME, BUT SHOOT US IF YOU DON'T WANNA BE BOMBARDED WITH MY FAULT, SHOOT ME AWARE.
YEAH, WE WILL, WE WILL GET YOU HER CONTACT INFORMATION WHEN WE GET THAT SET.
I THINK SHE, NO, I, I I'M JUST YOU AND I TALKING.
UM, MR. CHAIR, JUST AS A POINT, AND IS OUR, IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE CONDITION IN THE ROOM, BUT I WANTED TO THANK, UM, HERE OF BEING WITH ME ON THE LINE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR TRYING TO GET MY EMAIL SET UP, NOT REALIZING EVERYTHING ELSE THAT WAS GOING ON.
UH, QUICKLY, ARE THERE ANY, UH, REPORTS FROM ANY OF THE DISTRICTS THAT PEOPLE THAT CAN REPORT? SO, UM, FOR THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO SAY THANK YOU TO ME AND TO JAMIE AND TO
YOU, YOU OBVIOUSLY WERE AWARE HOW VALUABLE YOU GUYS WERE, UM, AND, AND HELPING MAKE THAT HAPPEN.
UH, WHAT A JOY TO WORK WITH YOU GUYS.
I MEAN, THAT WAS JUST WONDERFUL.
UH, AND, AND THANK YOU TO PHYLLIS AND TO DEBBIE AND TO KAREN.
WELL, UH, AND TO PETER AND TO ELISE FOR WERE COMING.
UM, UM, AGAIN, UH, I THINK WE ALL HEARD AND JUMP IN, GUYS, WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS.
WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS, WE DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THIS.
AND SO I, I THINK IF WE DO ANYTHING PERSONALLY, JUST ME, WE FIGURE OUT, AND HOPEFULLY MY TAB IS HELP WITH AMERICA.
I MEAN, WE'RE ALL HEARING THE SAME THING.
I, SO THEY, THEY ALSO, ALMOST NONE OF THEM READ THE NEWSPAPER AND ALMOST NONE OF 'EM WATCH LOCAL NEWS.
AND SO THAT'S, THERE'S PROBLEM WITH THAT.
I HAVE A, I JUST WANNA ADD NUMBER ONE, I WAS FINALLY SAID, I WAS, I WAS VERY IMPRESSED AND SHE ESPECIALLY IMPRESSED WITH STAFF.
UH, AND I JUST WANNA OFFER TWO LITTLE SUGGESTIONS.
UH, HAVING SOME HANDOUTS ON THE SENIOR SOURCE.
I WAS, THESE PEOPLE DON'T EVEN KNOW, EVEN MY, THE VOLUNTEER GROUP DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE SENIOR SOURCE.
AND I THINK SOMETHING ON THAT, A RPI KNOW YOU HAD
[01:40:01]
VARIOUS AGENCY ON AGING, BUT JUST ADD THAT TO YOUR STACK OF HANDOUTS.LIKE LITTLE COMMENT, BUT I, I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT.
AND I KNOW THAT STAFF DID AN AMAZING JOB.
I'M REALLY GRATEFUL TO THE TOO.
SORRY, I, EVERYBODY, SO THANK YOU.
JUST WANNA MENTION THE IDEAS OF, UH, FATHER'S DAY LUNCHEON.
OH, OUR PARKING RECS ON, WAS IT THURSDAY? MM-HMM.
AND OF COURSE IT WAS A, THERE WERE ONLY MALE SENIORS.
IT WAS VERY, VERY WELL ATTENDED.
UM, RECREATION CENTERS BROUGHT GROUPS OF PEOPLE, UM, YOU KNOW, FROM THEIR CENTERS.
THEY HAD TO SPEAK THEIR, UM, CRAIG ELLI, WAS IT COWBOYS? HE'S ONE OF THE COACHES.
GREG BIG NOT FROM THERE, YOU KNOW, BIG GREG.
SO, BUT IT WAS, IT WAS VERY SORRY, DEBBIE.
BUT I HAVE A TALKED ABOUT TODAY, IT WAS VERY ENJOYABLE, VERY WELL ATTENDED.
CRYSTAL AND HER TEAM DID A WONDERFUL JOB WITH THE PLANNING, THE FOOD, JUST EVERYTHING.
IT WOULD'VE BEEN A GOOD SITE, YOU KNOW, LET'S SAY WAS SOME MOTHER'S DAY, WHICH WAS, YOU KNOW, WE ENJOYED THAT, BUT IT WAS, AND SO I COMPLIMENTED HER ON, ON THE EVENT AND SHE ASKED THAT WE ATTEND MORE OF THEIR EVENTS.
AND I DIDN'T KNOW THAT WOMEN COULD GO BECAUSE I HAD, I WAS GONNA TRY TO ATTEND, BUT THEY SAID IT WAS ME AND ALL.
WELL, DID YOU SAY THAT YOU WERE PERMISSION? SOMEBODY TOLD ME THAT I COULD GO AS COMMISSION.
THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY THAT I GOT IN.
EVEN WITH MY BOY, WITH MY HUSBAND, THAT ONLY NATION CAN'T ATTEND ONLY, I CAN'T USE THAT AS STEVE'S GO WRONG.
UH, COMMISSIONERS CAN'T ATTEND THE FATHER'S DAY THING 'CAUSE WE'VE DONE IT IN THE PAST A LONG TIME AGO.
AND, AND, AND THEY ALWAYS WELCOME THAT 'CAUSE THEY WANT YOU TO SUPPORT THE OTHER SENIORS.
BUT I WANTED TO SAY THAT, UM, I THINK I'D MENTIONED BEFORE THAT I WAS WORKING WITH A GROUP THAT WAS TRYING TO ESTABLISH HERSELF IN DALLAS, WHO IS A DEMENTIA FRIENDLY ORGANIZATION FOR PEOPLE IN THE, UH, BEGINNING STAGES OF DEMENTIA.
IT IS TARGETING THE MINORITY COMMUNITY BECAUSE IT'S MORE PROMINENT IN BLACK AND LATINO COMMUNITIES.
THEY ARE, UH, SUPPORTED BY ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION AND DR.
DIANA KERWIN OF KERIN MEDICAL CENTER, AND SHE'S A MEDICAL DIRECTOR OVER AT, UH, TEXAS HEALTH PRESBYTERIAN.
AND SHE HAS A LONG-TERM, UM, STUDY ON DEMENTIA.
BUT ANYHOW, WE WERE ABLE TO USE THE BRISCOE CARPENTER CENTER BECAUSE, UH, I'M A MEMBER OF THE BIG TECH COMMUNITY PARTNERS AND, UH, IT'S, UM, A GROUP OF NONPROFITS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS.
I THINK I'VE TOLD YOU ALL ABOUT THAT IN THE PAST TOO.
EASTER, HIS NAME IS BROCHURE EASTER.
BUT ANYHOW, HE JOINED AND WE WERE ABLE TO USE THAT FACILITY, THAT AUDITORIUM TO HAVE A SCREENING OF THE MOVIE.
REMEMBER ME, REMEMBER ME, IS A DOCUMENTARY ON, UH, ALZHEIMER'S AND DEMENTIA.
WE DIDN'T HAVE AS MANY TURNOUT AS WE THOUGHT WE WOULD, BUT EVERYTHING WENT VERY, VERY WELL.
AND I THINK THAT EMAIL THAT I HAD FORWARDED TO, UM, AMERICA AND UM, MACKAY, THAT GROUP FROM THE LADY JENNIFER THAT HAD PROBLEMS WITH HER FATHER IN LONG-TERM CARE, WE INVITED HER TO COME AND SHE SAID SHE ENJOYED IT.
I DIDN'T GET TO MEET HER THERE, BUT I WANTED TO TELL YOU ALL THAT.
SHE SAID SHE ENJOYED THE PRESENTATION.
AND IF SOMETHING LIKE THAT CAME UP AGAIN TO BE SURE TO INCLUDE HER.
BUT THAT WAS JUNE 8TH AT BRISCOE CARPENTER LIVESTOCK CENTER AT FAIR PARTY.
ANYTHING ELSE? I'LL MOVE TO ADJOURN.
REMEMBER? AUGUST IS THEIR NEXT MEETING.
