ON APRIL THE 17TH, OUR CIT COORDINATORS ENCOUNTERED A COMMUNITY MEMBER WHO WAS VISIBLY IN DISTRESS WHILE WORKING TO ASSESS THE SITUATION AND COORDINATE SOCIAL SERVICE SUPPORT, THE INDIVIDUAL ATTEMPTED TO JUMP FROM A NEARBY OVERPASS.
THANKS TO THE QUICK, SELFLESS ACTIONS OF BURNHAM, JASON TERRY, KRYSTAL THOMAS AND MARCO RODRIGUEZ, THE INDIVIDUAL WAS PHYSICALLY PULLED TO SAFETY, CALMED AND CONNECTED WITH EMERGENCY SERVICES INCLUDING OUR RIGHT CARE TEAM.
THIS COURAGEOUS INTERVENTION REMINDS US OF TWO THINGS THE VITAL IMPORTANCE OF HAVING WELL-TRAINED, COMPASSIONATE PROFESSIONALS IN THE FIELD AND THE REALITY THAT A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE, AT ANY TIME. THE RIGHT PEOPLE AND THE RIGHT PLACE TRULY MAKE ALL THE DIFFERENCE.

SINCE THE COURT DOCKET WAS IN SESSION, THE INDIVIDUAL TRIED TO GET ACCESS THROUGH A SECURED ACCESS DOOR AND STARTED KICKING THE DOOR, SAID BECERRA ATTEMPTED TO CALM THE PERSON DOWN AND MAKE HIM SIT ON ONE OF THE BENCHES, AND SOON AFTER HE CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE.
BAILIFFS JIMMY HOLLIS AND ROCHELLE HARRIS CAME TO ASSIST.
THEN THE DEFENDANT, WITHOUT WARNING, GOT UP AND RAN TOWARDS A NEARBY WINDOW AND JUMPED HEADFIRST INTO THE GLASS, ALMOST GOING THROUGH. AT THAT MOMENT, ALL THREE BAILIFFS WERE ABLE TO GRAB THE DEFENDANT AND PULL HIM BACK, FALLING BACKWARD TO THE GROUND WHERE HARRIS GOT HIT BY THE DEFENDANT, INJURING HER.
